What are you 40 something year olds wearing out to the bar or seeing live bands? I need picture examples cause I'm so clueless on styling myself. In the wintertime, I typically wear boots, tight jeans and a cute top but in the hotter months I always get stuck on what to wear. I don't wear shorts because I hate my legs currently. I'm okay wearing knee length dresses, but I have no idea how to match shoes, or what shoes to even buy. So my wife's friend got married a couple years back. She made it this 3 day long event with multiple meals and two ceremonies, everything with different dress codes. Day 1 was some dinner that started at 9pm and took 3 hours, which she then forced everyone to go dancing afterwards. We joined for the meal but it being on a weekday told her couldn't go dancing. The next day at her brunch she tells us how much fun they had dancing and how even old people and children went. I brush it off and smile. Then two different ceremonies happen that day. And then finally the event will end with another brunch on the 3rd day. By this point we are exhausted, because we are not party people but wanted to be nice and participate. So the morning before the brunch, we get up early, get into our 4th outfit of her event, my wife does her hair and makeup again.. for the 4th time. And we get to this brunch. Her friend greets us and says "Oh hi babe...wow you look....comfy!" with this judgmental tone in her voice as if to say my wife wasn't trying hard enough (which was bullshit). My wife tries her best to brush the event off and says it's just stress from the wedding that made her terrible towards us the entire time. But I've decided that her friend is just an asshole and will slowly repay her for years. since then at various gatherings I have given her the following "compliments"; "I love how you don't care about vanity. Just go with that natural look and who cares what people think" "You look super comfy" (I've said variations of this one several times) "I wish I could have your attitude with arriving whenever. but I always have to show up on time for things." and so on. the greatest part is you can see the gears turning as she tries to figure out if I'm being complimentary or not. Last weekend was my dads funeral. I planned it since my mom has been a reck. My mom and my sister are not close. I am also not close to her and I think she is a dick. So I am probably bias. My sister dresses in the emo style. So skulls, collars, lots of blacks and reds, heavy makeup and so on. I truly don’t care most of the time, she can wear what she wants. This is a issue at important events, my wedding she did this even after she agreed to tone it down. She is always going full out with her outfits. I don’t understand why she won’t ever tone it down. For the funeral she came in wearing a short skirt, band teashirt, heavy makeup, fishnets and jewelry (collar thing and skulls). I was very upset that she couldnt dress appropriately for a funeral and I told her to leave. She got pissed and told her go home and put on a respectable outfit. He's usually an incredible boyfriend. The other night I dressed up to join my friends at a party hosted by our mutual friend whom we recently befriended. When James saw my outfit, which was a skirt a little above my knees and one of those backless crop tops, he told me that I can't wear that because I'm taken and I should dress like it. We got into a fight that ended with him yelling "Don't you dare come to me crying like a bitch when you get raped. You'll deserve it!" And he slammed the door when I walked out. The party was great and a few guys did approach me but I rejected them with no problems and overall had lots of fun and an amazing time. A lot of people complimented my outfit and said that I looked sexy. Which made me a little sad inside at the end because I wanted to hear that from James my boyfriend. But maybe he was just temporarily jealous? Maybe all it was was just a phase and once he understands that I will continue to dress however I want to..... he'll accept it? Edit 1: (All edits are the same day) For those saying that I crave male attention, first of all I wore that outfit because I wanted to feel sexy and good for myself. final edit: Thanks for all of the amazing feedback guys. I've deleted the update to this post. It seems like organizing isn't what people wanted with PR. I was also accused of making this about myself for some reason and I never once said I wanted to be a leader. The backlash has just been way too strong even after the suggestions in this thread pointed towards organizing in some way or fashion. I suggested a transparent and public Discord chat for people to discuss the IDEA because that seemed to be what the majority were speaking to. A lot of people liked that idea and DM'd me. Then I was just trashed in the comments for ever being involved in this or thinking about organizing messaging because it would inherently "hurt antiwork." Because that's the LAST thing I want to do, I'm going to back off from this. I admit I'm disappointed, but I'm just one voice in a sea of many. I know the insides and outsides, I know the rules of the game, and I am 100% suggesting that this kind of cherry-picking interviews and responses from "antiwork" supporters is going to possibly destroy the integrity and power of the group overall through a slow-burn campaign that makes ALL OF US seem like jokers. I'd love to hear some suggestions about what we, as a group, should do regarding media messaging. I want some out of the box ideas and I want some support here. I can't be the ONLY ONE HERE that thinks that CNN/ABC/CNBC reaching out to individual posters is problematic at best. I am NOT saying we need to infringe on people's rights to do/say whatever they want, but we need to come together on this issue. ​ We're going into the Springtime with a bigger following than ever before and we ABSOLUTELY NEED to craft a public relations arm of some kind with a mandate from the people to speak on BEHALF of everyone and to keep the MESSAGING AND DEMANDS CLEAR AND CONCISE WITHOUT ANY ROOM FOR CREATIVE INTERPRETATION. ​ ​ ​ update a couple hours later: Keep discussing, guys. This is what we need. another update: I have received a lot of feedback in this post and I'm so glad it has spurred-on such vivid discussion and debate. I have been trying to upvote everyone I can. I have to be honest, this is a little scary getting traction like this and I just wanted to BE VERY CLEAR [that I love capital letters, and] that I am not at all suggesting or promoting myself in any way for anything here. I asked for suggestions, support and unique ideas/opinions and I've received ALL OF THAT (and keep it coming) so THANK YOU to those that have commented and DM'd me. I don't want to acknowledge people by their usernames (those that have messaged me privately) but I have seen the DM's and I think they're all very good ideas that can be brought to the table with a post tomorrow, perhaps? Is it reasonable to say that we can start this process by getting the people together that DM'd me and sort of like, round-table this? Not for decision-making but for a "for the people" volunteer group that would go ahead and formulate some workable ideas. I think at this point I'd politely ask for a mod to please sticky a post saying something to acknowledge.... something... anything.... I would just like to hand the mic to someone else at the moment please. AND PLEASE KEEP COMMENTING. also one more thing: I think it's important that everyone be heard so we obviously we'll hear some ideas from people who don't think PR is a good idea and/or don't think that responding to media inquiries is a good idea. okay? okay goodnight all. will reply to dm's in AM.
