Hello, I’ve been using hair dryer for past one year it’s good Phillips one. But im leaving it with my mom and shifting to hostel and was thinking of investing into something better for future. I recently got a new long bob haircut that I love, but I'm realizing it looks best with a blowout because otherwise the ends tend to flip out away from my face. I am not capable enough to do the brush + hair dryer method so I'm looking for a blowout brush (or similar tool) that I can use as a finishing tool to use *after* my hair is dry. I am doing an upgrade to my life lol and am looking into getting a blow dryer but there are so many options out there. It was the last one in stock at my local Dollar Tree— I HAD to buy 😩 The employee told me they’re gonna start releasing more within the next few weeks for the Mother’s Day season. Wish i were an expert on hair dryers because there's no way i didnt know any of this?! Hoping this info helps everyone understand features that the best hair dryers in the market have. Right off the bat, did anyone else know that hair porosity is imp for hair dressing as well? Porosity determines EVERYTHING! Yes tiktok did try to teach us how to judge hair porosity but i never thought it would apply to hair dryers as well? i knew that it makes all the difference for hair care and hair wash routines but its lowkey crazy to know that there are specific ways to dry specific hair porosities. Im sure everyone here knows that Hair porosity is how readily your hair absorbs and releases moisture but DOES EVERYBODY understand the science behind that?? Well now I do and I wanna explain it hehe. So basically when hair has low porosity it has tightly packed cuticles that resists moisture absorption. It takes longer to get wet and longer to dry and it doesn't need aggressive heat to close the cuticles bcs the cuticle was barely open to begin with!! Dyson Supersonic and T3 Featherweight StyleMax are what tiktok hairdressers recc the most for this High porosity means hair will absorb moisture fast but also LOSE IT fast and needs more controlled drying to avoid frizz caused by the cuticle lifting unevenly as it dries. SRILabs DryQ is the internet’s favvv for high porosity. What this basically means is that high porosity hair benefits significantly from ionic technology and the cool shot step. But low porosity benefits more from consistent airflow and moderate heat than from ion output. Using a heavily ionic dryer on low porosity fine hair is one of the more common reasons people with that hair type find ‘good’ dryers make their hair worse than better. You should check your hair posterity JIC Its like a five second test. You take one of your hair and put it in a glass of water. Wet hair sinks in the water if its has high porosity bcs it has absorbed more water. Low porosity hair will come up to the surface and float. Giving sections 30 secs of cool air between passes is not overthinking it. It's just thermodynamics. Hair keeps a score of the damage! Heat damage stacks and the geometry of how you dry it really matterssss. The damage compounds every time we pass over the same section. Mechanical Damage is real! Hair is weakest when Wet and with applied tension. Hair is very obviously most vulnerable when its wet and when you pull it taut under heat either by hand or by brush. This is also why we tend to notice the most hairfall in the shower. The tension applied while drying compounds and makes the hair even more weak. The pulling stretches the shaft while the cuticle is open from heat exposure. The cuticle closes around the stretched shape which is partly how blowouts work actually but consistent aggressive tension on already heat-exposed hair is a mechanical damage source that sits completely separately from the heat damage conversation. Both are happening at the same time and they get talked about as if they're the same thing. Im sure now that i know what the real problem with the mislabeling on the box is im sure we can all collectively figure out the solution for these.
