Alternatives to Deli Meat Sandwiches?
We have a ham or turkey sandwich around twice a week in our house as it’s a fast, affordable lunch when we don’t have leftovers. However, given info about potential impact on health outcomes/carcinogenic rating, I’d rather eat it even less. What are your non-deli meat sammy go-tos? We like tuna and chicken salad, but a person also shouldn’t eat too much tuna nor am I trying to quadruple my mayo intake. 😅 Open to meat and non-meat options! thanks in advance for your ideas! submitted by /u/fancyfronds to r/budgetcooking [link] [comments]

We've all made chicken, turkey or ham in the oven. And sliced up leftovers for a sandwich. But who the hell said they made "homemade deli meat?" No you didn't Borky. You made a f'n sandwich.
Sorry but nobody calls it that, Borky Dork Dork. You didn't make "homemade deli meat," you clown. 😂 Hundreds of millions of people slice up leftover meat every week and throw it on a sandwich. 🙄🤦🏼♀️ Stop gaslighting with fake terms for clickbait. You didn't create anything. You didn't invent something. There's no such thing. You made a freaking sandwich. And you couldn't even do that right, as it smashed all over the floor. And don't lie. We know you still ate it off the floor. 💀 submitted by /u/Hour-Key-4670 to r/AcreHomestead_OhBecky [link] [comments]

Mystery meat
What kind of meat did I put on my sandwich? Yes, I don’t know what kind of meat I bought. I buy the container of lunch meat ends and cheeses because it’s like $4 and it’s always a surprise when I make my lunch. Unhinged as it may sound, don’t knock it til you try it. It tasted like ham but I’ve never seen any with, what I’m guessing are noodles in it. I’ve never seen deli meat like this until today. submitted by /u/sntothemax to r/whatisit [link] [comments]

Prime Roots deli meats + meat slicer
My partner was recently diagnosed with celiac, which as you can imagine knocked out a lot of seitan options for us 😭 I cut out gluten too in solidarity, and it honestly hasn’t really been too bad. I’ve been looking for a deli meat, we’ve been trying recipes online but haven’t found anything that we really like. I decided to get 2 of the smoked Black Forest hams and 2 of the smoked turkey big boys off webstaurant. We got 100 slices out of each roast and paid $270 total after shipping. After doing a side by side comparison with Tofurky, it’s slightly more expensive but just by about $39. It’s actually really an incredible product, I friggin love this stuff. I had ordered some of the small packages off of a website online previously and didn’t have a great experience. There was a slight vinegar or sourness to them? Zero of that taste buying in bulk, super thankful to have an option more than anything! I put most of it in the freezer that we can pull from over time, made some ham and cheese sandwiches for dinner which were perfect! submitted by /u/seonadancing to r/Veganivore [link] [comments]

So what are we doing to hit our protein goals with most deli meats being classified as a class one carcinogen now? ELI5: What is deli turkey?
You go to the deli counter and buy a pound of sliced turkey, and they use a machine to take slices off of a huge lump of meat. Bigger than any cut of turkey meat I've ever carved off a bird. What is it? Deli ham, too: I guess you could get a piece that size off a ham leg, but I'm pretty sure that's not what's happening. It's too homogenous. There are no fat seams. Is it all just an emulsified sausage— a bologna, basically? Is it a pile of turkey breast transglataminased together? Or does it just come from a turkey bigger than I've ever seen? submitted by /u/cnash to r/explainlikeimfive [link] [comments]

Are there any delis that dont just serve boars head meat and sysco potato salad?
I feel like im eating the same sandwich and sides at every deli I go to. Whenever i see a massive display case of 50+ side dishes I immediately get suspicious that they all came prepackaged off a truck the previous week. Are there any delis that are a step above? perhaps a sandwich with some bread from a local bakery? Maybe some Ham or Salami from a small meat purveyor in the area? Whenever I visit a deli that gets recommended here and see that display case, I sigh and feel the disappointment wash over me submitted by /u/jetf to r/longisland [link] [comments]

Proscuitto is the worst deli meat.
Capicola, Mortadella, Salami, hell even basic ham is superior to Proshitto. It’s a stringy, rubbery, and the flavor is wildly overpowering and unimpressive. Nothing worse than biting into a sandwhich and pulling out the entire guts of it because prosciutto decided it was going to ruin your day. It gets stuck in your teeth and is just a pain in the ass to eat. Proscuitto overrated, Madon! submitted by /u/MlCOLASH_CAGE to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

Pepperoni is a terrible pizza topping
Every pizza I've ever had with pepperoni has been ruined by this greasy, sorry excuse for meat. What's worse, the grease bakes off and settles over the top, a clear, glistening layer that screams "dab me with the entire roll of paper towels." And you know what? That shit will still be greasy. Worse still, it's become the default meat on frozen pizzas now. Want Italian sausage? Too fuckin bad, have sliced, over-seasoned deli meat that's a notable percentage of just fat, which, mind you, is used to stick the meats from who knows where on the pig together. Miss me with that shit. I'll take Italian sausage, meatballs, Italian beef, straight ham, even cold cuts of turkey over this piss-poor excuse for a pizza topping, only useful for dressing up a cheap pizza and ruining an otherwise salvageable meat lover's pizza. submitted by /u/HomelessLawrence to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

The deli at my local shoprite started selling meat ends from the cold cuts and i’m SO excited. Please share ideas!
I spy ham, pepperoni, salami, and maybe balogna and not sure what else. Cold cuts can be expensive but these are still some pretty substantial chunks of meat and they cost less than a package of the actual sliced deli meat. I’m so psyched! There is so much that can be done with this. Diced and fried up to add to eggs, in a pasta sauce, on top of a pizza, and personally i feel everything can be thrown in to add flavor to stock. I feel like I possess a gold mine. What would you do with these? submitted by /u/SassySpider to r/noscrapleftbehind [link] [comments]

TIFU by buying an entire deli ham
I feel so incredibly stupid right now. For context I used to be a vegan. From 12-21. I grew up around people that ate meat, but never learned how to shop for it nor cook it. I’m 22 now and have been eating meat for a little over a year. I’ve been trying to cook more meat. So far I’ve gotten pretty good with chicken and fish. But I’ve never made a ham. The guy I’m seeing headed out tonight for a flight to see his family, so we made a dinner together before he left. I did the shopping before since he was still at work. Now I have no scope of the price of meat. I figured because of it being the day before thanksgiving things are more expensive. The fact there was only one smallish ham on the shelf, and the bewildered look when I said I was buying the whole thing should’ve tipped me off. Well I heated up and basted the ham in the oven and made some stuffing and carrots. It was really good!! Like genuinely very very tasty. Then I called my mom and told her that ham is super expensive. When I told her the price and where I got it, she could not stop laughing! Then I realized I bought an entire deli ham. For $66 dollars. I bought lunch meat. F me. Tl;Dr: was a vegan, never bought meat before, only ever seen a ham at the deli and have no clue what it costs, bought and roasted an entire deli ham. Still pretty tasty though. Not the worst fu but kinda embarrassing and expensive submitted by /u/InkyEmbers to r/tifu [link] [comments]

Deli meat
Asked my doctor if it was okay to eat deli meat (since I loved sandwiches before getting pregnant and have avoided them like no one’s business), and she gave me the green light, saying it was okay to eat deli meat. Secondly, after listening to Emily Oster’s book “expecting better”, the data she presents for catching listeria from eating deli meat is so incredibly low, that you have a higher chance of catching it from improperly washed produce. I just bought loads of smoked turkey and honey ham slices from the deli section (where they cut it for you) and went to TOWN on a sandwhich, it was soooo goood!! TIL A boneless ham is a ham from which the bone has been removed, after which the ham is tightly pressed into an oval-shaped package. Salt will break down some of the proteins in meat muscle, allowing them to reconnect and link with each other. That's why a boneless ham still appears solid.

Ham is an inferior sandwich meat
That's right, the beloved ham sandwich has got to be the most inferior and plain tasting meat you can put on a sandwich. It always tends to be smoked, or sweet, and if it's just "cooked ham" it just tastes like salty chewy meat. The flavor is so faint, it's just there to provide the illusion that you've got a quality meat on your sandwich. Turkey, pastrami, beef bologna, roasted chicken or even meatballs all have a distinct flavor, adding robustness to the sandwich. Ham is just ham. An inferior sandwich meat. submitted by /u/anunderscore_ to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

TIFU by not knowing how much meat to order at the deli
This fuck up did happen today. For context I am a 23 year old student who still lives at home and isnt very good at being an adult. Today i went to the grocery store to buy some convenient things to make for lunch, since i work a summer job trying to pay for school. Usually i go grocery shopping with my dad, and when i went by myself today, i tried to pick out things that would also be good for him to bring to work. I thought deli meat would be perfect, but i didnt want to buy the already packaged meat because i heard that the fresh deli cut is slightly healthier? I dont know. But ive never ordered myself from the counter and i dont really pay attention when my dad does it so i try to remember "Dad usually orders....a pound..maybe? But that doesnt seem to last very long in our house.." so i decide that it's logical to order 2 pounds of sliced ham. The lady sliced and sliced and sliced and finally she hands me a big, heavy fat bag of stacked meat with a price sticker of $13 dollars slapped on it, and i think to myself "that's a lot of ham...". Then the lady says "I'm gonna put the other pound in another bag" and i think "FUCK thats a lot of ham" So i spent nearly 30 dollars on ham today. Which sucks when youre a student working a summer job to pay for school. I now think my dad probably orders half a pound or something. I dont want my parents to see what ive done, ive learned my lesson. So im gonna try and gift it someone idk. Here they are https://imgur.com/a/1fbas3L TL;DR didnt know how much meat to order at the deli. Ended up ordering 2 pounds thinking i was being logical.
