we keep our snacks soooo easy! We just do some cut up fruit, veggies, shaved meat (ham/roast beef, etc), slices of cheese & boiled eggs. All are great for taking out of the house too because it literally takes 1 minute to pack a lunch box full! Hi! Does anyone know if you can freeze sliced lunch meat? I make funeral sandwiches every Easter and they can get expensive! My favorite brand of ham is on major sale right now so I'd like to freeze it until Easter. What kind of meat did I put on my sandwich? Yes, I don’t know what kind of meat I bought. I buy the container of lunch meat ends and cheeses because it’s like $4 and it’s always a surprise when I make my lunch. Unhinged as it may sound, don’t knock it til you try it. I learned that turkey is pretty lean but just high in sodium, and spam is made only of pork shoulder, so it’s not the mystery meat most mainstream meat mongers make it out to be. There is also ham and chicken, also quite lean. And roast beef. I’m laughing inside at this abomination right now. So, I got this “Ham Maker” kit a couple of months ago but had this idea to use squirrel instead because it was hunting season. Today was finally the day to make my squirrel lunch meat. As you can see in the food processor and raw pack pics the beet juice gave it a nice pink color since I was going for a bologna like product. Well, the color didn’t stick and I ended up with an 80’s horror film main character look not disimilar from The Toxic Avenger. The product sort of did its job but the spring plate failed and allowed meat to spill over. It was also next to impossible to get all of the air bubbles out while packing it. It was beyond terrible- I always see deals for it and that should of been my first warning. I got ham and turkey- you cannot tell which is which because they both tasted like overly salty bologna with cartilage marbled through and a plastic textured casing. ETA: AITA For accidentally letting my sisters friends think I have a "crunchy vegan baby"? To preface: I do NOT have a crunchy vegan baby and I think this is mostly a misunderstanding. My daughter is six months old and breastfed. I am vegan, my husband isn't, and our toddler is vegetarian/vegan-ish (he doesn't like animal dairy but will ravish eggs). We don't cook meat in the home, although my husband eats it out of the home, and our toddler isn't a fan. Before anyone jumps on my ass he has been introduced to it because his dad eats it. He just prefers fries. (Same, kid). Anyway, I took my daughter to my parents house about a week ago. My mom is also vegan so we were eating our tofu and rice. My daughter has just started solids so she was also going ham on my plate. My parents dog ate more than I did. My younger sister (15) had her friends over. They were having burgers or something and watching me with my daughter. After I ate I nursed her and one asked if I was vegan. I said yes, she got this weird kinda look, and asked if my baby was going to be vegan. I just kinda shrugged because, you know, she could be a dairy hating fry fiend like her brother or a cheese-aholic like her daddy. Maybe, maybe not. My sisters friend nodded and spoke to me a little more before leaving. I thought it was a little odd but shrugged it off. Teens are weird creatures sometimes. Anyway, unbeknownst to me, this teen had decided I was a crazy vegan "crunchy" mom. Theres a few tiktokers who are apparently stupid about their kids safety and happen to be breastfeeding vegans. Like yours truly. I thought all was well - my sister sent me a link on the importance of a balanced diet for kids among a few other bits and eventually I called her. I was like, what the hell? And she started going on about how I was a bad mom. I told her to watch her mouth and she blew up and said I was the one with a "crunchy vegan baby". So, turns out, her friends are all convinced my children are terribly abused by my veganism, and because she'd never seen my toddler eat meat it was clearly true. I told her to calm the fuck down, explained my parenting, yada yada. She them got mad because all her friends think I'm a terrible mom and I should have been clearer and not just shrugged her friends question off because I should have known what they would have assumed I meant. I think she's being dramatic. They were worried, wires got crossed, all is well. She's still acting like its the worst thing in the world. So, basically, aita for making a mistake and having my sisters friends think I've got a crunchy vegan baby? As a side note, my husband was feeling petty so he went and got ribs for lunch. Filmed little lady eating her first rib. I can now firmly say she will not be a vegan, vegetarian or anything of the sort. I recently started to work in an office. Not very happy about it, as I prefer working from home, but it's only temporary so I'm hangin' there. Since I'm trying to save money, I take my own lunch instead of eating at one of the many restaurants near the office. Soon after I started, I noticed my food going missing from the break room. After digging a bit, I discovered who the culprit was. One of my coworker, let's call him "M", decided it was okay to take my lunch without asking for almost a week. I had to put a stop to this, but since I had no hard evidence like a video of him eating my stuff, I decided to take justice in my own hands. You see, "M" is a muslim and apparently very serious about it. To the point that he has to let everyone know about this at least once a day. Nothing wrong with being serious about your religion, mind you. But when everyone knows you as "the muslim guy" because that's the only thing you talk about, you may want to diversify your interests. To me, however, he's known as "the lunch looter." Since it's my lunch after all, and I have absolutely no dietary prohibitions, I decided to prepare myself a delicious pork sandwich. Pepperoni, ham, smoked sausage, chorizo, bacon, pork leg, cochinita and even some chicharrón for good measure. Oh, and don't forget extra jalapeños, normally I don't like them but I want this one to pack a punch. I call it "the squealing supreme." Surely, any person who adheres to religious rules would be a fool to even go near my succulent sandwich, right? Well, seems like "M" is the type of person to grab food off the fridge without checking it first. Which led to hilarious results. At some point before my lunch hour, the office was set off by bloody screams coming from the break room. When someone ran off to check, they found poor "M" crying about eating pork and saying that "someone" put non-halal meat in the fridge. This was my queue to get HR involved. This level of drama wouldn't go unnoticed anyway, and catching "M" eating my sandwich was all I needed to get them on my side. Sadly, the pay off wasn't great. He was let off with a warning, and his excuse for taking my lunch is that I always brought "halal" food (basically just chicken and vegetables) so he took it. It's not that he thought it was for him, he just said he targeted my stuff because I was the only one bringing clean food. He was still quite pissed and in the last few days he's been giving me the death glare. Moral of the story: don't take people's food. Who knows?
