Hi, I was given this as a present, I'm pretty sure it's a Haori, though I'm not sure. The person who gave it to me claims she bought it at an actual traditional shop in Japan when she lived there. It's made of silk and it is pretty detailed. Since then we've stopped being friends, and I have no use for it, so I was thinking of selling it, but have no idea what it could be worth. If anyone has any price suggestions I'd be grateful. I know the community rules, and this really isn't an advertisement, I'm just trying to get help since I don't know anything about this. Just thought I would share. I might release a pattern but I'm not sure anyone would be interested. Edit: OKAY OKAY I will release the pattern and make a video. I was wanting to do this for awhile but I was afraid nobody would like it. I also have 2 patterns I mapped out for shinobu and mitsuri, although I have not made them yet. Seems like some of you would like a giyu haori. If enough ppl ask i will make that my project next week. Edit2: Someone is trying to pass off my work as their own. I had some work done at my house and got tubing for AC with the classic outside unit and all that stuff, but most AC units were just way too much of an eye sore, ended up stumbling upon this model (Toshiba Haori) which looks pretty neat and doesn’t require an outside unit cutting costs by almost 10k at my house. Problem is I can’t find any info on it online, does anyone know if it is any good? Or if there are similarly looking options? Hello, This may sound like a silly question, but would it be considered inappropriate for a Westerner to where a Haori as a jacket in Japan? I just finished altering this beautiful shibori haori that I got in the same order as my first kimono. I extended the yuki as long as possible by completely unsetting and lengthening the sleeves and also widening out the body taper to the shoulder before resetting them. I left just leaving minimal seam allowances on both, figuring that a loose garment won't get much strain there. I'm sure this will come as no shock to people who are used to kimono, but I was amazed at how much hand sewing there was. Western garments just aren't made with this level of attention to the craftsmanship unless you get really high-end vintage pieces. There are three layers of silk, the outer shibori fashion fabric, a silk organza underlining that was hand stitched throughout to the fashion fabric, and then a silk lining. All of the stitching was done by hand so I did all of my alterations by hand as well. I can see myself wearing this a lot! It's very easy to throw on over my normal clothes. But I do have a super dumb question: the collar keeps rolling so it shows a few millimeters of the lining. I removed what looked like basting stitches from the collar but maybe I shouldn't have done that? Or do people usually wear them with a closure across the little loops to keep things in place or with the collar flipped forward instead of backwards like I have it here? Or are people just not bothered by the lining peeking out a little bit? A generous user here sent me this gorgeous haori in hopes I would get some use out of it. This was my first styling attempt and man did I not expect the amount of negativity I’d get. How do you all manage? It was super discouraging and I folded it nicely and put it back in my closet until I can sort out my feelings. I didn’t expect the string of slurs and people suggesting I shouldn’t wear it as a white guy. I was even accused of “orientalism”. That said, I paid special attention to style it as close to the casual Japanese outfits as I could, taking inspiration from Meiji period and modern fashion alike; pairing it with a sashiko boro print shirt that I adore (and I thought matched well). This is my first time posting here, but I wanted to show you guys the biggest piece ive ever made because I'm so ridiculously proud of it. I cosplayed as Zenitsu from demon slayer and crocheted his Haori in single crochets (took me 110 hours over 3 months).
