What is your absolute best all-around closed toe shoe for travel? Is it Salomon, Hoka, Vessi, OnCloud, New Balance, Altra, or other, and why?
To further the discussion of what is the all around “BEST TRAVEL SHOE (closed toe)” here is something to add and discuss: When I was traveling in Brazil in March, I met soooo many European travelers. Most of them were wearing Salomon “trail runners” I believe they were. Here is a link to the Salomon shoe I think the women were wearing. The men were mostly wearing it in Black. I did a lot of hiking in Brazil in my worn out Asics and wish I had a shoe with more tread. I 've been thinking about getting the Salomons but they really do scream "outdoors" and I don't know if they would be "cute" enough to do light walking in say, London or Paris or Rome... Are these SALOMONS really the all around best shoe for walking, trekking, etc in any type of climate? I know HOKAs (especially Speedgoat 6) are discussed often. I ended up giving in and buying a pair last Spring but I notice that the nubs / grip / lugs wear down pretty fast. (They are indeed very very comfortable, but also the colorways are intense and make me definitely stand out as a gringa. haha. ) I think the Salomons might be more durable? Furthermore, I know we all are looking for that UNICORN shoe that won’t look so Doofy when we are out walking and just browsing shopping in cute Italian towns…. but can also do some light hikes. And for those it seems the consensus are: Vessi OnCloud NewBalance Altra (zero drop) What are your ABSOLUTE go-to one-bag unicorn shoe (closed toe)?? I am going to be in Europe for a little bit, but later Mexico and maybe Brazil too. cheers! Oh, yeah, I forgot to point out an important thing. Bonus if waterproof, but I have noticed that mostly it doesn't matter because if shoes get wet with a huge downpour, they're going to get wet . I once bought a pair of Sorels waterproof sneakers and I hate them so much as they were really inflexible and uncomfortable. . I can't return them though. DEFINITELY DO NOT BUY HOKAS FROM THEIR WEBSITE.
I've honestly never experienced as shitty customer service as Hoka provides, I placed an order on 2/26, check out said I would receive on 2/27 if I paid an additional $30. I thought great, I have a trip planned this weekend for them to go on. Keep in mind I could have just walked into a store and purchased but Hoka promised I would have them the next day, a day goes by and no tracking number provided so I contacted Hoka, I've been around and around with them today and have been told everything from, their orders don't ship for at least 24 hours from order. Why did they ask for $30 to get them next day then? Then I was told they had left but ups had not sent a tracking number, eventually they told me they were packaged but had not been shipped yet. I said fine, cancel the order and I'll get boots from a local store, nope they absolutely refused to cancel the order and face no real reason why. They told me the only thing that could be done was to send them back once they arrive, again I repeat the shoes had still not even been shipped from their DC yet. Last thing I was told was "good news though returns are free", as if sarcasm was what I wanted to hear. Absolute shit for customer service, I told them I have bought my last pair of Hokas. They could give a shit less. submitted by /u/Dyno-mike to r/Hoka [link] [comments]

Think twice before purchasing HOKA’s shoes - broke quickly and not worth it
I purchased these shoes in August 2025 and used them for 40-minute hikes 3–4 times per week, but the inner side is already damaged. I’ve never had this issue with other brands, and many others report the same problem. This indicates poor quality and disappointing durability. I submitted a warranty claim, which was denied. I won’t buy HOKA shoes again. submitted by /u/Sue-9159 to r/Hoka [link] [comments]

Brick and mortar that sells Hoka running shoes?
It’s time for me to start training for a race in May. My feet have issues and I want to try Hokas- but not willing to try buying online. Also not interested in discount stories like dsw or famous brand that sell lesser quality styles of name brand shoes. Who sells high end Hokas in store?? Update- thanks everyone! submitted by /u/SewCarrieous to r/StLouis [link] [comments]

Running Shoes - are Hokas “bad”?
Are Hokas the wrong shoe? Up until like 2 years ago I was a run like every day kinda person.. half Ironman, half marathon and marathon racing and wearing Hoka Bondis. I switched in 2020 to them bc of plantar fasciitis and they helped a ton. Then I stopped running as much, switched to climbing, biking and weight lifting so still active. Now I want to run again and I have Bondis bc I never fully stopped and they’re my basic trainers. I was told they were “bad” and got a pair of Brooks Glycerins. I feel like they make me hurt but maybe I’m use to the cushion of the Hokas. I’m paranoid bc I have hip issues and don’t want to be making everything worse with “bad” shoes. I miss running so much and want to avoid injury returning so appreciate any insight in advance. submitted by /u/Scared-Individual630 to r/runninglifestyle [link] [comments]

Former Army Ranger/Sniper & Long Distance thru-hiker here. Your bugout loadouts are unhinged.
Loadout: 50+ mile Sniper Adventure Challenge Race Kit (you don’t need this for bugging out!) Hey guys. I don’t thinks that having a military background makes somebody immediately qualified to give advice about prepping or moving over land. I actually think that a lot of Veterans overpack and are focus focused on the wrong thing for prepping or “bugging out”. We were trained to have logistics, supply, and fight. If you go into one of these situations with that mindset, you will be carrying way too much stuff. Following my time in the Ranger Regiment and as a conventional sniper, I started knocking out multi hundred mile treks around the United States. Dude, I ate so much humble pie from carrying too much weight and not understanding what it means to truly self support. In the military, you assume, “one is none and two is one”, meaning: you need to have redundancy in your gear. My pack for hiking the 800 mile Arizona Trail weighed about 22 pounds, 30 pounds when I had to walk 20 miles plus with no water points. I had a full kit: Bivy sleeping bag, water, filtration, and food for about five days. I covered +/- 30 miles a day for 40 days from the Mexican border to Utah. I experienced heat exhaustion and some gnarly foot injuries that I had to take care of out in the field. All this to say: you guys are carrying way too much stuff if you plan on walking 20 miles with no/little training. First: safest course of action for a lot of things is to stay in place. Here is a simple loadout for getting home if it’s 20 miles away: One Nalgene Bottle (everything in this kit goes inside the bottle when stored) -space blanket -Swiss Army knife -Cell phone charger pack -Ultra light rain jacket -Electrolytes -Antidiarrheal/ibuprofen (as long as you keep the water inside you you can probably make it home) -Sunscreen -Chapstick -2,000 calories -cheap sunglasses -headlamp -TP -aquamira tablets (chloranamine) -Collapsible pack (mystery ranch has a 19L) -compass (maybe) -if it’s winter time, obviously this list changes, you can fit one of those REI brand puffy jackets into pretty small spaces. Costco and farm supply stores have great gloves for $6 a set. That’s all you need to get home and walk 20 miles. Water is the most important thing. Water over a gun. Most people who serve in combat don’t actually shoot their weapon, every single one of them drinks water and goes to the bathroom. I’m all for prepping and being prepared - I know that I’m just some guy on the Internet but I have a lot of experience walking in and out of austere environments. On the tier list of things that you need, a firearm is pretty low - but probably still an essential item, if you know how to use it. If you’re looking for good shoes, I really like Hoka and Altras and for boots La Sportiva. You do not need three pocket knives and a Glock 19 with six mags and a plate carrier to get home when you live in rural Virginia or wherever. If you can carry in your state, cool, then put a Glock +2 mags in a fanny pack. Hot take: Your cell phone has a compass that will work even without service, it also has a flashlight, those little battery banks are pretty valuable and while I do like analog - if you’re truly reducing weight, then use the device that you use every single day that works without fail for hundreds of days in a row. Your cell phone is durable, it’s probably the item that you use the most and drop and it gets wet and it still works every single day. I wouldn’t take my personal cell phone into a war, but we’re just talking about getting home. submitted by /u/FTWkansas to r/prepping [link] [comments]

Wife is livid after spending quite a bit on Hoka shoes for the family
So between 3 of us in the family, we have 5 pairs recently purchased. 2 pairs of Bondi 8s, 3 pairs of Haka 2s. She uses a pair of Bondi 8s indoors to run on a treadmill. These are less than a year old and the inside of the heel fabric are already wearing out/down (as shown in pics). The Hakas are holding up strong though in daily outdoor use (material is different and more durable). I think she's just disappointed after the perception of quality from the Hoka brand didn't meet reality with her Bondis. She's going back to On and Brooks for her future shoe shopping. I quite like my Hakas. Anyone else have the same problems with their Bondis and shoe buying selection in the household? 😂 submitted by /u/NoFuckinShitRetard to r/Hoka [link] [comments]

F in the chat for my Hoka shoes
What shoes do you guys and gals wear to work? Hoka will always have a special place in my heart lol. Easily the most comfortable and reliable work shoe I’ve ever owned. I had these bad boys for a little under 16 months. Went to my local shoe store and found a sweet pair of waterproof Hokas (with a much trendier style than these ugly bastards lol) on the clearance rack for $120. Most new pairs of Hoka shoes run for at least $140. submitted by /u/tonsofday to r/AmazonDSPDrivers [link] [comments]

I used to think people were crazy for wearing enclosed shoes in FL heat, then I tried Hokas
I’ve sworn by my Chacos as my favorite park shoe for years. Can’t stand having my feet enclosed, especially in Florida heat (and I live here). My doctor recommended Hokas for an injury and after a full park day in Clifton 10s, I apologize. You were all right and I was wrong to wonder if you were crazy It was (park)life-changing, no fatigue or sore feet. Stereotypes of running shoes based on data
After a lot of discussion on my original post, I made a questionnaire to get some data as a basis for the attached graph. This is the result of 73 answers - thank you very much to the ones who participated. How was the data used? I used the most frequent score of every brand (mode) to decide placement. I also tried using the mean, but it resulted in everything cramped in the middle. The variance of each brand lies between 1.8 (Skechers) and 3.0 (Hoka). Topo and NNormal were not part of the questionnaire, resulting in their position being based on fewer scores gives by people in a free-text field at the end of the questionnaire. Some of the ones people disagree on in objective coolness: Brooks, NB, Mizuno, Norda Some of the ones people disagree on in perceived coolness: Asics, NB, Puma, Inov-8 Some of the ones where everyone agrees: Skechers, On Do you agree with the outcome? New Hoka products are GARBAGE
Bought the Clifton 10s as soon as they were released. Wore them maybe 5 times just to break them in, running errands…. before the back sole ripped clean off. I have been wearing the 9s for years as a dentist and swore by them. I crush these shoes with the nature of work, standing for everything and constantly using a pedal (rheostat). The 9s always lasted 6+ months of abuse. Sent them into hoka for warranty, the shoes still look completely new. They claim it’s “normal wear and tear.” This company is dead to me and I’ll tell anyone who wants to hear it. They SUCK, and their refusal to admit it is pathetic. Look elsewhere for a dependable shoe. submitted by /u/Rich-Chance-7265 to r/Hoka [link] [comments]

HOKAS HAVE BECOME TRASH
I've had Hokas for the last 10 years. I've ran marathons in them. I've walked in them. I've used them for everything. I bought Clifton 10s on May 16th. In June the bottoms were falling off of them after barely wearing them. I sent them in for a warranty and it was denied with no communication. They just sent the shoes back to me. Hoka is dead to me. He’s been pursuing me, then sent me a spreadsheet asking to be reimbursed for our dates?? Am I overreacting?
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/Fantastic_Truth2164 He’s been pursuing me, then sent me a spreadsheet asking to be reimbursed for our dates?? Am I overreacting? Originally posted to r/AmIOverreacting Original Post July 8, 2025 Hi everyone, I (F23) have been dating this guy (M32) for a little over a month now. He was very persistent in pursuing me, constantly texting, making plans, asking me to go on runs, bike rides, and beach days (we live in Florida), and inviting me to dinner, bars, and even paying for Ubers to and from his place. We were hanging out at least 4 times a week. Everything felt like it was going somewhere. He’d been slowly building things up and even waited weeks to finally kiss me. Then, out of nowhere, he sends me a literal Excel spreadsheet with a breakdown of dates, how much he spent, and a column with my name, asking me to reimburse him. I’m attaching it because I truly can’t believe it. It felt transactional and weirdly formal, especially since he was the one initiating nearly all the plans. What’s even more confusing: after sending this, he still insists on seeing me and continuing to date. Like, you want to invoice me and kiss me? And for context, I’ve picked up the tab quite a few times ,dinner, drinks, etc. , without making a thing of it. I’ve never asked him to pay me back or keep score. I thought we were just getting to know each other and splitting things organically like adults especially since he’s about 10 years older than I am. So am I overreacting or under-reacting, I can’t tell if this is just him being “organized” or if it’s a huge red flag. The text messages TRANSCRIPT OF TEXT MESSAGES Guy sends a breakdown of everything spent (cigs, Google, restaurants etc.) Guy: Hate to ask but can ya Venmo or Zelle me some $ for the last few weeks? I know ya got me some stuff which I'm appreciative of, and definitely happy to cover most things like our date night and drinks and stuff, but ya never paid me for the first round of stuff from a few weeks ago and moneys a little tight for me and a source of stress rn w working two jobs etc. OOP: sure Guy: Ok i think $100 is fair unless you have any objections OOP: are you charging me for in between day Guy: I'm charging you 100$ for the $500 of stuff l"ve covered since we've started hanging Ya never paid me the last time lasked for some OOP: alright maybe we shouldn't go out as much Guy: lol l can't tell ifur butt hurt I'm asking for $100 OOP: Yeah I do like the green Sheees Did you get my Venmo Guy: I did. Thank you very much Coincidentally, [redacted] texted me td saying he was owed $ too. I paid him the $90 you owed him from awhile back. I was hoping you could reimburse me for that eventually OOP: oh sure. Sending now! Guy: I appreciate it very much Delivered How was work and dinner W Liv TOP COMMENT Suitable-Tear-6179 Ok, you sent him the money. You even sent the money to repay what he "gave" to his buddy you owed money to. Do send the mutual a note that says "Hey, X says he gave you the money I owed you. I've already repayed him for it. We're good, right?" Just in case he didn't give the money to the mutual like he said. I mean, someone who's going to send an invoice after the fact, who says he's got money troubles just gives his buddy money you owe, not knowing if you'll pay him back??? That just seems SUS. Ask if you should go through your bank or credit card notes for the times you paid, and write up a bill for him to pay YOU back? Do you think that he would consider that to be reasonable? Because, "At 23, I really can't afford to pay for a 32 year old." I believe he would flip out. You need to bow out of this relationship. Standard custom is the person that asks the other out is the one that pays. If not, it should be Dutch right from the start. It's odd he's so OCD about tracking what he spent with you, and yet he apparently can't budget or stay within his means. The two just don't compute. (How accurate is his list? Because if he's not getting by on 2 jobs, he shouldn't be spending 500+ on socializing, especially when you're good with runs, bike rides, and other low/no cost hangouts. You might want to consider asking, "Hey, We're going Dutch, right?" on the first few dates with the next person you go out with. That way you can budget what you get either way. (I tend to order less expensive stuff on someone else's dime) And you don't get an unanticipated surprise at the end of the meal.... or a month later, though I'd be shocked if anyone else pulled that stunt. Update July 9, 2025 Hi everyone, thanks so much for all the responses on my last post, it blew up and I appreciate all the feedback. I wanted to add some details that didn’t make it into the original post, since a lot of people were asking for clarification: • In the spreadsheet he sent me, I’m the green column (and no, it’s not cigars/cigs for me, lol). • “Green” also referred to a $200 pair of hoka shoes he texted me about buying. • He took me to a nicer spot called In Between Days for a more intimate dinner. • The other man on the spreadsheet asking for payment was actually his twin—who sometimes joins us on double dates, but usually picks up the check himself. • I always offer to pay my share. Money is genuinely stressful for me, and I hate the feeling of owing anyone. He always refused in the moment, then turned around and invoiced me formally later. I would have much rather just paid my own way from the start than have any of this happen. Final update: I sent him the last payment and then blocked him and deleted his contact. I didn’t want him to hold anything over me. It sucks that I paid him, but at least iit’s over. Thanks to everyone who weighed in. Girl invited me to go for a run today. I eagerly agreed, since I’m a semi-professional long-distance runner.
I arrived at the meeting spot, of course, 20 minutes early, wearing my Hoka and compression socks, post light warm-up, resting heart rate 42. She showed up 5 minutes late, wearing H&M leggings and some casual walking shoes from a REI. I suggested a classic 12 km training loop at conversational pace (4:40/km), but she said she doesn’t “run that much” and just wanted to do a couple of laps around the park. Alright, I thought, let her have it. We started easy. My watch showed 6:30/km pace, heart rate in Zone 1, basically active recovery. After 500 meters, she said she needed to walk because she’s “not quite in shape yet.” I suggested some high knees and a few strides, and she asked if I “take this all seriously.” She chatted about Netflix shows while I analyzed my Garmin Connect data. After 1.8 km, she said that was her max and asked if we could sit on a bench. We sat. She was sweating like she’d just run a marathon, I was cooling off with an electrolyte drink, heart rate back down to 45. She said it was “great, so nice you didn’t run too fast.” At the end, she asked if she could tag me in a TikTok with #RunningDate. I said I don’t use TikTok—it messes with sleep patterns. I blocked her when I got home. Then ran 15 km at tempo pace to clear my head. Crying, but in Zone 2. submitted by /u/AleNudy to r/Garmin [link] [comments]

Never buying another pair of Hoka’s - what is the hype about?
My girlfriend convinced me to give Hoka’s a shot because she said “it’s like walking on clouds” - so I bought a pair ~8 months ago. I pushed through the constant feeling of nearly getting shin splints as I broke them in. And then - 6 months in? They started tearing on the inner stitching between the fabric and the gel. I figured - I paid over $150 for these. Surely I’ll get excellent customer service for these shoes that have broken down just 6 months after I bought them? Nope - I spent $20 to ship these relatively new broken shoes to Hoka HQ only to be denied any refund or offer of a replacement. They sent back the shoes with a note that this was “normal wear and tear.” Are these shoes so poorly built that they break under 1 year from wear and tear? Did I get incredibly unlucky or am I expected to buy a new pair every 6 months? I’m going back to New Balance submitted by /u/Chauncemeister to r/Hoka [link] [comments]

Why are Hoka shoes so ugly but so comfortable 😭
I am a fan of hoka cliftons, definitely the most comfortable walking shoes. I did all my trips last year in those shoes. But they’re so ugly. When I come back and look at the photos, I hate my shoes. 😅 I am flying to Italy next month and will be walking around a lot. Any recommendations on comfortable but also decent looking shoe? I have veja’s but they’re not really comfortable for 15-20k steps everyday. submitted by /u/Accomplished_Bus_461 to r/HerOneBag [link] [comments]

New Hokas - the other day Drue said Gabe’s shoes were left in the washer and smelled bad. She needed advice on how to get the smell out because “Hokas are too expensive to buy again” but she just bought herself a pair. Not to mention she buys new shoes all the time. Lol. I’m confused.

Are Hoka shoes worth it?
I work a physical job on concrete. So that means I have to buy new shoes every 3 ish months otherwise my knees hurt. I buy new shoes on clearance for 20 to 30 usd or 80 to 120 USD a year. But Hoka shoes cost about 150 on average so to be worth it they would have to last me over a year. Are they any good? If not what shoes should I buy? submitted by /u/marimark34 to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

What is your opinion of Hoka shoes? Are they long lasting and worth the money?
I am willing to invest if they hold up. Any experiences, positive or negative, would be helpful. Edit: Thanks so much for the insight. I went ahead and ordered the Challenger 7 Trail Runners to see how they fit and give them a chance. I appreciate all of the responses. submitted by /u/env-scientist to r/REI [link] [comments]
