I find Costco apples to be pretty lacking in flavor. Like they'll be the same Cosmic Crisp Honeycrisp Envy whatever but worse examples.

Red and golden delicious (bottom tier) are the same price as Fuji, Gala, and Honeycrisp apples (mid tier). Or spend ~$ 0.50/lb more and treat yourself to a top-tier apple: Sugar Bee or Cosmic Crisp. Most people who buy red delicious are choosing to be miserable.

I recently asked a bunch of my friends and cousins “if you could only eat three fruits for the rest of your lives, what would they be?” And all the Michiganders included Honey Crisp in their answers and I asked them “why not all apples?”. the past few times I've bought honey crisp from costco - each time I think to myself "dang these taste okay, but there is just no way it's a honey crisp apple". for awhile I convinced myself it was all in my head, but it's driving me nuts. the skin is too uniform in color. it's more of a solid red instead of the speckles of red/yellow/orange the flesh isn't as hard and crunchy as it should be. flesh doesn't snap, it's much softer. the sweetness is off. not quite as bright with the snap of acidity. they have a deeper richer honey sweetness, much less acidic I've had other honeycrisp (from local orchards) and these are different. they taste fine, I like eating them, no I'm not returning anything for a refund they're just not actually honeycrisp submitted by /u/316nuts to r/Costco [link] [comments]
