CMV: Ice Cream Shops Should Charge Me Before Giving Me the Ice Cream, Not After
**Especially* when in a cone. I have noticed that most times when I go to an ice cream shop (gelato & sorbet included of course, but for streamlining purposes "ice cream"), most (not all) shops, in this sequence: Ask for my order Make the order Hand me the order Charge me I don't understand why charging me isn't step 2. Once you get the ice cream, it instantly becomes a battle against time to prevent it from melting down the cone or out of the cup (if it's full enough) and into your hands. And if it's a cone, I can't even put it down, so I have to juggle holding my cone and pulling out my wallet, then my card, and then the reverse (Especially if I'm alone). Aside from being hard, if the ice cream melts onto my hands, now my wallet might get sticky and that's no fun. This problem seems very avoidable, too, by charging me before giving me my food, the same way that McDonald's and other fast food restaurants do. I can ponder that this *might* be beneficial to line management (maybe?) and might help make sure I'm paying for what I'm getting due to the selection, but I just don't think that's worth it for the stickiness juggle. Is there something I'm missing? Is this helpful to me in some way I overlook? There must be *some* reason this is typical, right? Change my view or at least open my eyes to being more understanding of this practice. Edit: This was the fixed version - I briefly posted with the wrong title. Thank you to everyone who pointed that out. submitted by /u/ITGOKS to r/changemyview [link] [comments]

AITA for not getting an ice cream machine with my gf?
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is ExistingShoulder5215. They posted in r/AmItheAsshole Do NOT comment on Original Posts. Latest update is 7 days old. Mood Spoiler: cute Original Post: August 23, 2025 This is a small issue, but I still wanted to get some opinions. My gf who I'll call Sam and I have been dating for a few years now. We live together, and when we decide to buy an item for the house, we share the expenses on said item 50/50. Recently, a friend of ours has bought a new ice cream machine, and ever since seeing it, Sam has been asking to get one of our own, while I have been against buying one. First of all, we don't eat ice cream that often, even without the machine; in fact, I know that there is a cup full of ice cream in the freezer right now that has been sitting there unopened for quite some time now. That is not the only reason, however, when Sam sees something like this ice cream machine, she always hypes up how she would use it all the time and how this machine could change our lives, etc., but after the initial hype fades, she never looks at it again. The same thing happened when she wanted a new fancy coffee machine, an air fryer, a bread machine, and the list goes on. She convinces me that they would be good to have around, only for them to never be used again. I told her this, and she promised that this time would be different, but that was also what she said about the coffee machine. We are doing very well financially, and the thing costs, when converted to USD, around 500$, which we can definitely afford, but then again, if no one will use it in the end, what's the point? So, AITA for not contributing to buying the machine? Some of OOP's Comments: Commenter: Lmao you can buy an ice cream machine for $50. $100 if you splurge. $500 is insane OOP: Ikr, hear me out though, it can make ice cream, sorbet, AND slushi Commenter: NTA - if Sam wants to buy an ice cream machine that she won’t use, then she 100% can but leaning into consumerism just because a friend has one doesn’t seem like the best option. Maybe suggest to her that the money could be better spent on something you’d both like, but if she’s dead set on buying one then she can absolutely do that with her own money! OOP: I don't think I've said this, but I have already told her that if she wanted it that much, she didn't need my permission to buy it. However, she still really wants me to contribute to buying this machine, like she pouts about it when I tell her that I wouldn't be contributing. I think she wants me to contribute because it's too big a commitment, and if she doesn't use it like I told her would happen, she has spent 500$ while taking all the blame of spending the money onto herself, if I contribute, now, I have also approved this item and so we share the blame when it doesn't get used. Commenter: NTA but you're really missing out by not using the air fryer more, especially in hot weather. It can be really useful, unlike an ice cream machine. OOP: I'll be sure to give the air fryer a second chance Commenter: NAH and it's nice to read about a situation on this sub that's relatively universal rather than something over the top. We all do this, it's totally fair to not want the machine but it's understandable that your girlfriend wants it after seeing someone else's OOP: Just wait till my air fryer divorces me and runs off with Sam OOP is voted NTA Update Post: September 1, 2025 (9 days later) Fuck the ice cream machine, no one cares about the ice cream machine. The air fryer, on the other hand, is absolutely a game changer. The first few times I've used it, everything came out undercooked because I was a dumbass and didn't know how to use the machine. Now that I've put my bigotry aside, I finally get it. The kitchen is not scorching hot, the potatoes are to die for, and the chicken is delicious. Thank you to everyone who convinced me to give this machine another try. Also, I've made my first batch of bread, and it most definitely tastes like bread, so I must have done something right. As for the ice cream machine, I bought Sam a less expensive model for now, and we'll see if we actually use it. It's been great for now, but it's still too early to tell. Literally no one asked for an update, but since the air fryer was your guys' suggestion, I thought I owed all of you a thank you. Some of OOP's Comments: Commenter: Now look into a rice cooker. Simple but perfect rice every time and dirt cheap. OOP: My kitchen countertop Commenter: I have never fucked an ice cream machine. An icecream though… OOP: I recommend the mint chocolate ice cream, an overall surprising experience submitted by /u/LucyAriaRose to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

first time in life i can enjoy ice cream
my whole life (33) i’ve been allergic to whey. my parents thought it was lactose but when i was 18 i tried lactaid milk and still got sick (itchy throat pain in stomach). then i tried a bite of a whey protein bar and thought i was going to die. about 3 years ago i was listening to ‘how i built this’ on npr and it was about chobani. i never thought about yogurt until the founder described greek yogurt is the process of removing the whey. so i decided wth. bought a cup of strawberry chobani and was BLOWN away. couldn’t believe how good it was. mild reaction orally and a bit of an upset stomach but very mild. figured it was trace amounts of whey. next day tried again. and again. about three years later i’ve worked my way up to the final boss. ice cream. i can’t believe i went my whole life without this stuff. i feel like ive discovered life all over. i also don’t think im ever looking at the vegan milks and desserts again. sorry lol thought i’d share thanks submitted by /u/Acrobatic_Hat_7089 to r/mildyinteresting [link] [comments]

My (28F) boyfriend (29M) grabbed a stranger's ice cream. Can't believe this actually happened
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/catmunist_manifesto My (28F) boyfriend (29M) grabbed a stranger's ice cream. Can't believe this actually happened. Originally posted to r/relationship_advice Original Post - rareddit July 19, 2019 So we were out walking around this evening. He'd mentioned wanting to get ice cream but hadn't brought money and neither had I (We usually take a walk after dinner, and don't buy stuff during it unless we decide beforehand we want to get something that night) So as we're walking past a group of people he made a sudden movement to the side and then started running in the opposite direction full speed. It was so fast I hadn't seen exactly what he did. People were saying things like "holy shit" and "omg". One guy said "he took my ice cream", and that's when I realized what happened. He fucking stole this guy's ice cream on a busy street!!! I was absolutely shocked and mortified. Everyone around us had seen it, or else quickly got told about it. They were staring and pointing down the street where he was still running. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! I apologized repeatedly to the man who's ice cream he'd grabbed, then said I was going to go find him and got myself out of there. Utterly humiliating. Well he'd nearly made it back to the house in that time. I got there a few minutes later and found he had been crouched in the stairway furiously eating the ice cream out of the cup. He scrambled when he heard me coming dripping ice cream everywhere. Looked like a deer in headlights. He literally left the cup on the stairs and RAN AWAY from me up to our apartment. But I had the key, so he was just standing there when I got there. I of course demanded an explanation. He had the balls to deny he'd done anything!! He insisted he didn't know what I was talking about! I sort of lost it and started yelling at him, the cup is down on the stairs, your hands and mouth are covered in it, a dozen people literally SAW you snatch it right out of a guy's hand, what the fuck do you mean you "don't know". He then changed his story and said it was just a joke. Wtf? He decided to re-enact a youtube prank video. On a random stranger? How is that a prank. After I let us inside I kept asking what makes him think that's okay to do, and he changed the story AGAIN. This time he said he doesn't know why he did it, it was just an urge. I didn't even know what to say so I told him I needed some time to myself. I'm seriously disturbed. He's got no good reason. This is completely out of character for him, he's always very mild, reserved, and treats people especially me very kindly. He's the last person I'd thought would do something like this. What do I do next to figure out wtf that was about? How can I know he's even being honest? OOP Added in the comments Adding this to the top comment so anyone still following will see. Last night I asked him again what he was thinking. He said "jesus I don't know, I already told you." I said I couldn't accept that answer, because it's not a real answer. I told him we needed to talk about it because (after reading some of the comments last night) I needed to know if something was going on with him mentally. He said it wasn't, I started naming possible things he could be stressed about like job/family/money and he said it was all fine. To my knowledge that's true, if something's going on then he's hiding it well. He was visibly annoyed by my questioning and when I eventually asked if he realized how bizarre it was, he snapped "who fucking cares, please stop bothering me I'm busy" (he was just browsing facebook). He refused to talk about it anymore after that. But has been talking about other stuff as normal. It's like he's just pretending it never happened. If it hadn't, there's nothing about his behavior right now that would be weird to me. So now I feel like I'll be crazy if I bring it up anymore. I don't know if I need to just forget about it like he is or what. I'm still stunned and very confused RELEVANT COMMENTS Alma00019 if he had had a lapse in judgement and thought it was a funny prank, then I feel he would be laughing when you found him and being all like "dude, did you see the look on their faces? hahahah want some ice cream?" Instead, the way you wrote it, it sounds like he was furiously eating the ice cream he stole, and then ran away from you when he saw you coming. So, he wasn't doing it as a joke. The way you wrote it sounds like he was manic, like an animal completely going on instinct. He wanted ice cream THAT badly that he grabbed someone's ice cream out of their hand, hightailed it home, and started shoveling it down his throat greedily, and then ran away once he saw you coming. That sounds SO INSANE I don't even know what to say. I think he is probably embarrassed and doesn't want to talk about it. if it was a psychotic episode or something tied to mental illness, I wouldn't expect him to know/realize this. So asking him "did you have a psychotic episode? Do you have a history of mental illness?" isn't going to be very fruitful, and it will just make him more defensive. You have to get to see a professional, but don't be accusatory or make him feel like he's crazy. OOP Yes, the way you described it is exactly how it happened. He wasn't laughing at any point. When he was trying to convince me it was a joke he sounded more defensive and panicky than amused with himself. If I can't tell him about the possibility of a psychotic episode then how can I get him to see someone? He won't see any reason to go. Update - rareddit July 23, 2019 (4 days later) So I finally got the explanation from him yesterday. Turns out he was in a Discord server chat where the members all dare each other to humiliate themselves by doing outlandish things in public they'd never normally do. He told me he's left the group because the experience was really stressful to him. Not "exciting" like he'd thought when he joined. It was the first time he'd taken one of the dares. He said that afterwards he "just didn't know what to say and couldn't believe he'd actually done it." He was extremely apologetic for acting like a lunatic causing me to worry about him. We had a long talk about it last night. I genuinely believe he regrets it. He knows what a stupid fuckup it was. Not much else to say really, just wanted to come back now that I got the answers. Thank you to everyone who tried to make sense of it in the original post, and who gave me advice for talking with him. RELEVANT COMMENTS GoodQueenFluffenChop Did you actually see the discord and the chats? Because that doesn't make sense. Usually with challenges and dares there's a camera involved or else how would the other members know that he did the dare? Your description of events didn't mention either of you having your phones out to record. If there are no videos being posted and it's all based on the honor system that members did the dare then either your BF is very naive or something else is wrong. OOP He was on his phone during the walk. I didn't mention it in the OP because there was no reason to. Now I know he was recording in a non-obvious way. He never posted the video anywhere and it's been deleted. He also left the discord the same night it happened TOP COMMENTS Otherwise_Window This dude is a dumbass. The story is so pathetic it's probably true, but why exactly did he lie to you? What adult gets involved with shit like that? What's the next dumbfuck thing he is going to try in his quest for excitement? ~ Johndough1066 He's 29 years old and he needed to do this because of a dare? And the he gaslighted you? Do yourself a favor and lose this guy. A customer wanted her ice cream crunchy, so I made it crunchy.
Briefly during the pandemic, I worked as a manager at a Ralph’s (a NYC-area ice cream chain) and one night I as I’m helping out scooping I hear a customer getting annoyed at the window and starting to get snippy with one of the young kids who was working the window, so I head over to smooth the situation as manager. The woman is mad because the hot fudge on her hot fudge sundae is hot and going to melt the ice cream. I explain to her that hot fudge is indeed served hot but she insists so I make her a new sundae with magic shell topping instead and let her keep the hot fudge one. By the time I return with that, this customer is stirring her spoon through another cup of cream ice (kind of like a sherbet) she ordered, obviously about to complain about it. The flavor she ordered was called “graham crunch” and she proceeded to tell me that there wasn’t any graham crunch in it. That she orders this flavor all the time and she knows that I am intentionally stiffing her. I tell her that this is just how the flavor is and I don’t name or make the ice cream, but she isn’t having it. She wants me to “fix” it. We’ve got some crushed graham cracker topping in the back, so as she is berating me I just walk away from her and grab the entire container and come back to the window with it. At this point, we’ve got a line of people down the block because this lady has held us up so there are lots of witnesses to what I was about to do. Without breaking eye contact with her as she continues to tell me that I’m wrong about the ice cream I scoop 6 days a week, I open the lid of the container and empty the entire thing over her cup of the offending ice cream. Graham crackers are everywhere. Her ice cream is now definitely crunchy. She loses her mind at this and starts yelling at me she knows the owner and will get me fired. I tell her “Yeah, Steve is a nice guy” and she responds with “I’ve known Steve a long time” to which I respond “well his name is John. Get out of here and don’t bother my employees for free ice cream again.” Now sufficiently embarrassed in front of the long line of customers, the lady leaves in a huff and indeed never returns. The next few customers left us $20 tips in the jar to make up for her, so the kids who worked for me left with quite a bit more in their pockets than they normally would and realized that their manager had their back. submitted by /u/visit_magrathea to r/MaliciousCompliance [link] [comments]

Ice cream shop server tells me that I can't buy a gallon of ice cream.
This happened a while ago. The free donut story reminded me of this. I was going to a family event and stopped at a local farm fresh ice cream shop on my way there. My bf gets out to get a gallon of ice cream. He comes back all exasperated telling me that the girl at the counter won't sell him a gallon of ice cream. I get out of the car and go up to the window and asked for a gallon of ice cream. Ice cream shop server: We can't sell you a gallon of that flavor. Me: Are you out of that flavor? Ice cream shop server: No. We just don't sell it in a gallon. Me: It doesn't matter what size the container is in, I just want to purchase a gallon of it. Ice cream shop server: We can't sell you a gallon. Me: OK, I will have 2 half gallons. Ice cream shop server: We can't sell you a half gallon. Me: (getting frustrated) What size container do you sell this flavor in? Ice cream shop server: We have it in a quart, pint, cup or cone. Me: Great! I would like 4 quarts please. Ice cream shop server: (Hand packs 4 quarts, puts them on the counter with snark and ignorance) You can't just buy a gallon of any flavor and we only have half gallons of vanilla and chocolate. Me: (Blank stare) 4 quarts IS a gallon. Ice cream shop server: (confused look) Really? Me: Yeah. 2 pints are a quart, 4 quarts are a gallon. Ice cream shop server takes my money then goes to talk to another server. I don't even want to know that conversation. EDIT: my bad for not explaining US liquid measures. A cup is 8 fluid ounces, a pint is 16 fluid ounces, a quart is 32 fluid ounces, a half gallon is 64 fluid ounces, a gallon is 128 fluid ounces. Also this was a large dairy farm but the sign isn't like a menu. First there's a list of standard flavors, then hand written are the seasonal and special flavors, followed by a list of prices. I think that the half gallon price says 'when available' and 'brick packed' all other sizes are hand packed. There's not a limit to how much a person can buy and I've seen people order insanely large amounts. It wasn't busy when I ordered and I told her to take her time, emphasizing that I was not in a hurry as I realize that hand packing takes a while. At this particular place they prided themselves on really packing a lot into a container so it was totally worth buying 4 quarts. I would have ordered it that way if I had known it would be an issue for her. I wasn't looking for special treatment just a gallon of awesome ice cream for a gathering of people, pre-covid. submitted by /u/SinfulPanda to r/MaliciousCompliance [link] [comments]

Ice cream in a cup is superior to the cone
With a cup, you can eat ice cream in peace and not make a giant mess of liquid. Better grip, less chance of falling. Not to mention, you can SET IT DOWN to do whatever you need to do. Try and do that with a cone. Cones are overrated. submitted by /u/C_Alamo to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

TIFU by eating ice cream in the back of an ambulance
-- Obligatory "this wasn't today" -- I'm a firefighter/EMT and live in an area that responds to a significant amount of high-speed vehicle crashes. Needless to say, we all get a little calloused after a while. It was July and my Captain, myself, and a co-worker decided to hit up a local fro-yo joint to cool off. As we receive our delicious cups of frozen creamy goodness, we get a call from dispatch of a high speed SCHOOL BUS VS. PICKUP wreck up on the highway. This is the kind of shit you dream/worry about as a FF. We hadn't even paid yet, but the kind lady thrusts our cups of ice cream into our hands and yells at us to run, and that it's on her. As we throw our protective shit on, the guys hand me their bowls (they are up front driving) and I am left figuring out how to preserve or discard the significant amount of ice cream present. We're hauling ass, and I have the brilliant idea to put the ice cream into the refrigerator where we keep the IV drugs. We make it to the wreck, find out there is a school bus full of kids, and a completely unrecognizable truck that had a young lady (driver) who was killed on impact. The kids were alright, but all the bystanders were pretty shaken by the scene, especially because one of the lady's legs was amputated from the hip down and was just laying in the middle of the highway. I picked the leg up and covered it with a tarp. Even worse, the car driving behind the pickup was the MOTHER of the deceased, and as expected she was absolutely hysterical. Basically, this whole thing was a shit show. I go over to try and comfort the mother, and listen to her say all of these things I know she would never tell even her closest friends, and then eventually left her when her pastor showed up. I go back to the ambulance, and find out we need to move the ambulance to make room for some incoming units (43 kids inside the bus, all needed an examination), so I hop into the back and wait for my driver to get into the rig. About five minutes goes by, and I figure he got held up. So I think "damn, it's a hot fucking day and that ice cream is just sitting in that fridge." Fuck it, and I go for my big bowl of fro-yo. So I'm sitting there, quickly spooning heaps of chocolaty goodness into my mouth, when the back of the ambulance door swings open. 15 kids, 4 cops, my boss, and the poor frantic mother just staring at me, as I shovel a big lump of ice cream into my mouth. I immediately grasped the gravity of the situation. Bus full of potentially injured children. An amputated deceased victim. The victim's mother. And I am sitting in the back of the ambulance eating ice cream like a fat, careless fuck. I tried to recover, practically throwing the ice cream sideways and stammering out "alright kids who wants to go for a ride?!" or some stupid shit like that. But they couldn't hide their disapproving astonishment. So that's how I got the nickname Ice Cream. TL;DR: Am firefighter, was getting ice cream, got interrupted, went to car wreck with dead people, finished ice cream in the back of the ambulance while on scene, was seen by everyone submitted by /u/MudHammock to r/tifu [link] [comments]
