What do you guys do for snacks and meals?
This is just some diced chicken, seasoned and melted cheese put on top. Simple yet filling and satiating. Delicious too. Just been trying to keep carbs low lately, and man does it feel incredible on both my mind and my body. I feel way less hungry between meals, don’t spike my blood sugar, and can listen to my body and stop eating when actually full - a concept i have never been able to do. What are some of your guys’ go to meals and snacks? Looking for more inspiration. Thank you to both this community and r/keto. submitted by /u/coopieg31 to r/lowcarb [link] [comments]

My [39M] wife [30F] of 6 years is upset I lost weight and wants me back to before
I am NOT Original OP, OOP is u/transformerdad posting in r/relationships ——————————————— [Original | June 29th, 2016] My [39 M] wife [30 F] of 6 years is upset I lost weight and wants me back to before Throwaway. Wife follows me on Reddit... I got married to my wife 6 years ago when she got pregnant. Ideally, we would have dated for longer than 9 months, but it is what it is, and we had our son soon after. Within the few years of our marriage, life was good. I got to learn a lot more about my wife and we got along really well, much more than when we were dating. Then my dad died of a heart attack when I was 35. My dad had just turned 59. This was a reality check, and I remember I cared so much because I had my son, and if I wanted my son to have me around when he was 35, I was at least going to have to live to 71 without keeling over from a similar health issue. I went and did a physical and blood work, found that I had high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I told the doctor my workout plan and diet, and set on my way. Following r/loseit was really helpful as well as r/keto. Within a year, I was down to my normal weight, and within two years I had a six pack, something I never had when I was younger. From that point, my doctor told me my health had exponentially improved, but I was thirsty for more. I wanted to look even more aesthetically pleasing, so I got a picture of the 300 cover photo and set about building my body for that Halloween. In that time, I think my wife and I must have grown apart. My wife used to always be fit when we dated, but after having our son, she must have been busy to go exercise. I invited her with me to workout (I saved up money and built a separate 2 car garage behind the house to build a home gym), but she would say she was tired or "happy the way she was". I would go for jogs with my son in the stroller, and whenever she joined us, she would insist we walk. I asked her to try jogging, and she would snap back asking if I don't find her attractive. Of course, I love my wife. I love her as the mother of my child, I love her as the daughter-in-law she is when helping my mother, and most of all I love her as my wife and how she is forever my companion. This became even more apparent with time. While I would be cooking chicken breast and broccoli for the week, she would say that I should start eating lasagna and fried chicken that I used to eat before. I told her that I didn't want to go back to being overweight/obese (my bmi used to be 32 and the doctor said that was classified as obese, now my bmi was 25, borderline overweight, but I am at 10% body fat) so I was careful with my food, and she got so upset. She asked if I thought she was fat, and I calmly told my wife to go ask the doctor because I thought she looked good, but I was biased. After her appointment the next week, she came back home crying. She said her doctor said she was overweight and should consider a diet plan and working out. I thought I would see changes in my wife's behavior, but nothing happened. Now, summer has come around, and my son is a bubbling ball of excitement and always wants to go to the pool. I take him to the community pool to play with other kids that live in our neighborhood, and my wife joins us sometimes. Last weekend, the neighborhood had a pool party, and everyone and their kids were there. My wife came, and my son and I were having fun, playing in the water and socializing with the people who came there. When we got home, after my son took a nap, my wife walked me into our bedroom, and started questioning me. She asked me if I was sleeping with X woman who was there, Y woman who was talking to me, or Z women whose kid I was helping dry off and talking too. I said I didn't know what she was talking about, and then she pulled out her phone to show me pictures she had taken from her seat. They were pictures of me smiling and talking to these women. I sat my wife down and told here I would never cheat. I have a son that she provided me, and a wife that I loved and cared so much about. She wouldn't accept that answer though. She said that I must be attracted to those women because they can look good wearing bikinis while she is heavier than them (her words, not mine). Then she changed the focus to me. She said I was getting all this attention because I was now fit compared to before, and it would cause me to waiver in my fidelity now that other women were attracted to me. My wife told me that she wants me back to my old self, when she didn't have to worry about other women and we could be comfortable together. She said she feels this undue pressure to become fit herself, and feels like its too stressful to maintain that lifestyle. Can someone please tell me what to do? I am not going to lie to my wife, but if I am being honest, I think she would be much more attractive if she tried to get back in shape. Even just trying. I don't know how I can tell her this without hurting her feelings or making her feel more insecure; can someone tell me how to approach that? tl;dr: Now that I have lost weight and look fit, other women are flirting with me and my wife is starting to get jealous. She thinks that I will cheat on her in the future, and she wants me to get back to my old self. Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: Your wife probably needs some therapy. This isn't about you, it's about her. She has low/no self esteem and is insecure. Why don't you offer to cook all the meals for 5 days, some good healthy food and if she enjoys it you can say "See, now that wasn't so bad." Once she starts getting good food to fuel her body, she may have more energy to feel like starting to work out with you. OOP: She goes to a therapist once a month... she doesn't talk about it with me, but I saw a bill one time, and connected the dots. I cook only healthy meals for dinner and breakfast, and offered to make lunch for her as well, but she said she likes to buy out. I know she also has a snacking habit where she will go through chips and cookies while working... I feel like I've tried all that I know so far. Commenter 2: That's fucking disgusting for her to ask that of you. Tell her that what she's doing is unreasonable and you've given her no reason to actually believe you're cheating. Being overweight is what it is, and you are so incredibly strong-willed and I, random internet stranger, am very proud of you for improving your lifestyle. Don't let your wife throw all of that away for you. OOP: Thank you kind internet stranger :) The only other person who has said they are proud of me is my mom and my son. I showed him a picture from before and he said "Wow daddy, you used to be so fat, but now you are like Superman!" At the same time, I understand where my wife is coming from. Back when we were dating, I was wondering what a beautiful girl like her was dating a guy like me. 6 years later, I guess the tables have turned. I think I just need to watch my interactions with other women and make sure my wife does not get the wrong idea. ——————————————— [Update | June 30th, 2016 | 1 Day Later] Update: My [39 M] wife [30 F] of 6 years is upset I lost weight and wants me back to before Thank you everyone for your posts and advice. I really appreciate it! I made a few realizations about myself and my relationship to my wife. I wasn't easing my wife into getting into a healthy lifestyle and had completely forgot that when I started out, I took it very slow. It took me 4 years to get to where I am now, and my wife was trying to keep up with my current lifestyle, which can definitely be overwhelming. I was trying to look for the perfect opportunity to talk about this with my wife, and to ease the mood a little, I went and bought her favorite bottle of wine and a bouquet. I went to talk to her in our bedroom after our son had gone to sleep, and she had these old photo albums. Apparently she had stopped by her parents place after work to help them with some summer cleaning, and she wanted to keep the photo album to go through their memories. I gave her the flowers and opened the wine and we looked through the pictures while we were cuddling. We were leafing through the pictures, and then I saw one of a strikingly handsome man in a football uniform holding a girl that looked exactly like my wife when she was 24 kissing him. My wife was so interested in the picture, and she started tearing up a bit. I asked her what was wrong, and she pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of her parents now. They're in their 60's, and still in love, but they have lost their shape that they had in their youth. Her dad had a really large beer gut, and her mom was overweight, but they were happy. She was saying that when we got married, she was hoping we would be like them. They never worried about losing faith in one another because their attractiveness faded as they grew older, but their love for one another continued to grow. She talked about her old boyfriend, who became so popular in college, and girls threw themselves at him, that he ended up straying; she was worried the same would happen to me because women in the neighborhood started to talk and say they wish their husbands worked on their bodies like I did. She was starting to feel really insecure. Then I took that opportunity. I gave her a kiss, and then told her that she loved me when I was fat, and women like them never noticed me. She still loves me, but those women just lust. Sure, my eyes might dart, it is physically natural, but I loved her so much, valued our relationship so much, and only needed her in my bed, I couldn't even imagine laying with another woman besides her. She started crying tears of joy, and I didn't stop there. I pushed on wards. I grabbed the picture of her parents from college, the picture she had of her parents now, and a picture of when we started dating on my phone. I told her what her parents did, lose track of their health but still grow old and love each other is one way to live life. They got the chance to see their grand kids, but I know the health problems her parents have. Then I brought up my dad, and how he wasn't able to spend much time with his grandson, and how I want to have the opportunity to see my future grandkids and maybe even great-grandkids. I said I wanted her to be by my side. I took a picture of us now, and had the picture of her parents, and said, "Why can't this be us when we're in our 40's, 50's, 60's, till we die?" I told her I loved her, but because I loved her so much, I wanted her to become healthy. She doesn't need to get to her pre-baby weight, or anything drastic. I told her my story of how I just wanted to get fit, but then that developed into a desire to look good, too. She admitted that she also wanted to get back her health, and at the same time she was hoping to stick to her new years resolution to lose 20 lbs. We talked, set up a plan, so she is cutting the snacks down to two cookies a day and logging everything she eats, and portion control. That was when she brought up her monthly appointment with her psychiatrist. Apparently she had been going to talk about how she could get over her overeating habits. I felt so bad. I had neglected my wife when I was trying to become healthy, when I could have included her in my journey and it would have been so much easier to do together. We set up an exercise schedule every day, and she was joking how we should have sex every day to make sure we got our cardio in. I took the in, and we had sex the rest of the night. I haven't been as intimate with my wife like I was last night since our honeymoon. I hope to keep the momentum going tonight since we both took vacation for the long weekend ;) I took the advice of being more intimate with my wife even outside the bedroom, and was kissing her and playing around with her while we were making breakfast today, when I hear a voice shout from upstairs "DADDY! YOU SAID WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TOUCH GIRLS LIKE THAT!" Ended up having the "When a man and a woman are married, and love each other so much, it is ok to do that, because that is what leads to a baby" conversation today. I can still see the shock in his eyes... but it had to happen so I can feel more comfortable kissing my wife and squeezing her butt in front of my son. I am so glad my wife does not have depression and that we were able to work together to put a plan to get back her health. She was showing me pictures of power couples, saying in a year or two she wants to take a picture like that together, so I am so glad she has that goal in mind. I also feel ashamed. When I was starting, it was to become healthy, but I liked the physical changes I saw in my body. Then for my model, I picked Leonidas from 300. But my wife, who has restarted on her fitness journey, printed out this picture of a husband and wife who are both fit. It just goes to show who loves who more, and I definitely need to work on that. Anyways, thank you so much for the support reddit. I really appreciate the help, and look forward to helping my wife with her journey, so that together we can live a long and wonderful life seeing our son grow older and his future kids. tl;dr: Got some wine, saw some pictures of healthy/fit couples, decided we can do it together. Starting a plan slow with moderate diet changes, 3x exercise a week, and lots more sex for cardio. Scarred my son for life because he knows that maybe girls don't have koodies because his role model is grabbing his mom's butt in front of him. Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: Well, dang, that's a happy ending, and it's good to see that you all worked this out to a conclusion where you both will be happy and secure in your relationship. Side note: one day, show your son the picture about romantic love where it says "I will buy you tacos and touch your butt." I have no doubt hilarity will ensue. Commenter 2: Haha, your poor son is going to think that touching butts is what leads to babies. I mean, I'm sure you probably actually explained it in an age appropriate way that made sense to him, but the way you said it in the post was.... amusing OOP: To put it short and sweet, I said "If you are married, and a husband and wife love each other very much, they can be blessed to have a baby." He thinks each time I say blessed it means that God happened. So I thought it sufficed for now. God happened. ——————————————— THIS IS A REPOST SUB—I AM NOT OOP. Getting over a virus and my stomach acid is destroying me, does anyone know any keto snacks that has "carbs"?
Hey guys! I have TLE Epilepsy, I've done vegetarian keto for over a year just to see if it would help with my particular type of epilepsy. Anyhizzle, I've had a hardcore virus that I'm still recovering from (it's not covid, HIV, and I'm not pregnant so thank god), and if anyone here has a chronic disease like epilepsy, sometimes it takes an extra week or longer to get back to feeling well again. Okay, so ignoring that boring stuff, with extreme stomach acid in the past I typically need like some bread or something carb-ey to absorb the stomach acid, or I may begin to vomit, may throw up epilepsy meds, all that annoying shit. Can anyone recommend a "carb" esque keto snack that may help at least settle down stomach acid? All of my snacks are typically 100 calorie packs of nuts, green juices, stuff like that but I'm still sick and I don't want to start dry heaving / vomiting in public. Do you guys have any recs or can anyone relate to what I'm going through? With my type of epilepsy sometimes it affects my emotion, so sometimes I randomly cry because I'm sensitive sometimes. So any keto snack that would help soak up stomach acid, I would really love / appreciate your thoughts or anecdotal experiences you have that may be similar. Peace my dudes, I appreciate any feedback! submitted by /u/CursingAtlantaOvary to r/vegetarianketo [link] [comments]

Half the man I used to be - 1 year on Mounjaro
This will be long, as I kind of intend for this to be a document for myself to provide to people close to me who are considering taking this journey themselves. The TLDR is I did well, you don’t have to read this novel. =) The Journey In November of 2024, I was trying to make a change and started taking a walk every night. I had a type 2 diabetes diagnosis back in 2022 but hadn’t really done much about it other than a few dietary changes which fell by the wayside over time. The walks were intended to be a starting point in being more serious about it. Additionally, I had been having pains in my left foot whenever I stood up, but that pain would fade away to an ache quickly…within a minute usually. I thought walking might help me lose weight and reduce or eliminate the pain. Instead, the opposite happened. My pain levels went through the roof and suddenly when I stood up, I had to do the “ah…ah….ah” walk putting weight on it gingerly. My wife asked me if the pain in my foot was related to why diabetics sometimes get their left feet amputated and I freaked out. It was not diabetes related by the way. By coincidence I had a physical scheduled a few weeks later. One of my friends had started taking Wegovy the prior September and had lost 40 lbs., basically changing nothing except his portion sizes (enforced due to nausea). I figured, this was something I could manage, and I decided to ask my doc about it. I met with the doctor, asked about Ozempic, and explained my pain issues. She asked me what my goal weight was, and I honestly had not even considered it. My starting weight was 321, so I picked 225 because losing more than 100 lbs. seemed like a fantasy, and what was the point of that? I mean, even 225 was pushing the limits of reality in my mind. I explicitly remember also saying that, like, if I could do a Thanos snap and make it happen, I’d pick 175 but that I realized that was just not realistic. I had long ago internalized that I was a fat guy and honestly felt that could/would never change. The diets I had done in the past never stuck, and I always ended up back where I started, sometimes worse than where I started. My doc told me to limit my carbs, cut out soda, drink a lot of water and raise my activity levels and wrote me the script for Zepbound, which I hadn’t even heard of. I almost got mad because I asked for Ozempic, but some quick research taught me she may have done me a favor. It took a few weeks dealing with insurance rejections (my doc had done a PA for weight loss management, not diabetes treatment) but I eventually got the Mounjaro script filled and took my first shot on December 11, 2024. All the advice my doc gave was good but after that I was basically on my own. I decided when to titrate up and would message my Doc who sent in a new script. There was no check in, or blood work done, which seems like the norm for many people here. I had no idea what an endocrinologist was and had google it, lol. I eventually found reddit and came here to get my advice and I appreciate this community tremendously. I wish I had paid closer attention to the advice here in the beginning, I certainly did make some mistakes. I was one of those people that felt it right away, like within hours. My food noise was no longer present, and I found myself forgetting about what snacks were in the pantry/fridge. In the middle of a meal my brain would send a signal that I was….full? What was this? Prior to the shot my only indication that it was time to stop eating was when I felt stuffed. When I see people here saying “OMG, is this what normal people feel like?!” I can completely relate. I know how lucky I am to be so responsive. After starting, my plan was kind of to do what my friend did. See how the symptoms hit me and adjust my eating accordingly. For the first few weeks I basically lived as I did before, eating and cooking the same types of meals. It was possible because my symptoms were mild. I lost a bunch of water weight the first week, as many of us do, and then (unsurprisingly) stalled the next two weeks. In truth, my prior bad habits were overcoming the medicine, despite it’s efficacy. In those two weeks where I stalled out, we had a child visiting, a second’s child’s birthday, my wedding anniversary, and X-mas, so I am giving myself some grace, but I wasn’t “leaning in” so to speak. After Christmas came and went, I decided that I needed to take this seriously and began tracking my calorie intake and reducing my carbs. I realized that I had to make conscious choices about what I was eating to succeed. The month after I decided to “lean in” was wild. I basically didn’t understand dieting (my previous diets were things like Atkins) and nutrition. So, I started eating a lot less in general, without really paying attention to protein levels and whatnot. I took a daily multi-vitamin, a calcium supplement and a Magnesium/D3 supplement and figured my nutrition was taken care of. In the 30 days that followed there was a period where I lost 12.8 lbs in 7 days, 20 lbs in 14 days, and 29.6 lbs in 28 days. I cannot stress enough how unhealthy this was. I am so incredibly lucky that I didn’t have any kidney or gallstone issues during this time, but I was getting nothing but positive feedback from the people around me. I was just like, yeah! I’m working hard at it and this is how the medicine works, I guess. My first goal was to get to 279 lbs or 42 lbs. lost. I picked this because Costco sells pallets of kitty litter that weigh 42 lbs. and every time I picked one up and put it in my cart I wanted to feel how much weight I had lost. Honestly, hitting that first milestone is still probably my biggest emotional highpoint of the entire journey. It signaled to me that this was going to work if I kept putting in the effort. This milestone happened around 2 months into my journey. Around that same time, I realized that my Plantar Fasciitis pain had diminished to the point where I would almost not feel it at all. At best I felt nothing, at worst I had a dull ache that faded to nothing. The pain had probably been gone for weeks, it’s funny how easy it can be to miss the absence of something. This meant I could start doing my nightly walks again and I made sure that was something I tried to do every single night. I’m not perfect, but I’m very consistent with the walks even today and I feel that this was a great help to me. I don’t know that I burned a lot of calories with the walks, but they helped me to feel better about myself. And in many ways the walks were a barometer for how seriously I was taking the journey. If I was doing walks, I WAS leaning in. As I said above, my first goal weight was 225 lbs. which I got to about 5 months from my start date. Coincidentally, I reached that goal weight the EXACT day that I had scheduled a 6 month check in with my doctor. She COULD NOT believe how well I had done and told me that I was the most responsive patient she has ever had on this medication. That many times the patient follow up comes and there has been no, or minimal change in weight. Her reaction to my loss was really affirming because she had only seen the “before and after”. I work from home, so I don’t see work people face to face and my family had seen the weight come off day to day, so the difference never seemed quite as stark. I even heard the admitting nurse talk to my doctor before she came in saying “he has lost a LOT of weight”. We went over what I was doing and she just kept nodding and said she wished every patient she had would make the same changes. I think she was too quick to brush off the speed at which I was losing weight, but by this point I had realized it myself and had been making changes to address that. When I got my bloodwork back from that visit, I was taken off Metformin, my blood pressure medicine, and my statin. The only prescription medicine I take now is the Mounjaro. I reached my second goal weight of 195 lbs 36 weeks into the journey. I picked that as my second goal weight because it was both in One-derland AND equated to THREE pallets of Kitty Litter. Weight loss by this point had slowed, due to better understanding of TDEE, strength training and importance of nutrition and calories. My final goal weight has shifted around the last few months of the journey. I didn’t need to be a certain BMI for the sake of a number, but I read that your risk of many comorbidities is drastically lower if your BMI is under a 27, so that was really my final goal. Get below a 27, with some cushion built in. I’ve stopped focusing on a specific number to reach and am now working out how to maintain. That is a new skillset, and one that I have struggled with. It is quite a mental shift to go from a weight loss centered approach to a balanced maintenance approach. I don’t have tips there because I am still figuring it out. I did learn that loosening my calorie restrictions, while stopping my walks due to extremely frigid weather combined with a trip to the dispensary is not conducive to maintenance. I’ve gone from a 49.8 BMI (at my heaviest) to a 24.9 BMI. I’ve lost 49% of my starting weight in 12 months, and 50% of my heaviest weight. I actually like to think of my weight loss percentage in terms of my *current* weight…so I’ve lost 96% of that. I weigh what I did in high school, even though that was never my actual goal. It’s like time traveling back to the 80’s in a way, but with a lot less hair. I brought out all the old clothes from my closet that never got thrown away. I tried on club shirts from the 00’s (why did I ever buy silk flame shirts ffs), and clothes I hadn’t worn in over 20 years. And almost all of it was too *big* for me. I had to buy a smaller belt, a much smaller belt. Honestly, the hardest thing about this is just letting go of the fact that XXL and XL are always too big for me now. That’s a weird thing to me. People here often say they have body dysmorphia about the journey, but that hasn’t been as much of an issue for me in the day to day. I avoided mirrors and pictures consistently beforehand but occasionally, I’ll catch sight of myself in a mirror by accident and will be startled. The only time it really hits me is when I see old pictures of myself, and I find myself feeling some kind of way. I do have anxieties around my weight loss though, as probably many of us do. I worry about losing health care coverage, as there is no way I could afford this medicine without it. I worry that some new much cheaper but less effective drug will be released that fixes my A1C, but does nothing to control my weight, and that’s what my insurance will insist I take. I refused to throw away all my old clothes because on some level I am just waiting for this all to somehow crash and burn. So, I guess on some level, I still feel like the real me is that big guy from a year ago. Maybe I do suffer from dysmorphia? I’ll have to unpack that. The physical side effects I had were generally mild throughout. Constipation and burps were probably the only consistent side effects from Day 1 through today. Constipation is easily managed, and burps don’t even register to me as a problem. Maybe that’s just a benefit of being a guy. I forget to even mention it as a side effect most of the time. The only time I had anything other than mild symptoms was when I titrated up to 5 mg, but that didn’t last long. I see this question come up a lot when people talk about their success, so I will just say upfront I have loose skin. If that was your question, move on. This question really irks me, not because I am dealing with it (I expected loose skin, and am fine with it), but because I feel like it’s too personal of a question to ask a person. And it is an actual person making these post guys. Would you ask this question in person to a stranger? Maybe it’s unfair of me, but I feel like that questions about loose skin kind of translates to “I know you’re looking and feeling great and all, and you’ve had some great success, but underneath it all, are you actually still gross?” Now I know that people asking this question are just dealing with their own insecurities and fears, but the way to deal with that is to make your own post asking these questions so people can engage if they *want* to. What I did right/recommendations/tips I’ll start by saying, I’m only an expert on my own body and journey. My tips aren’t meant to be universal Advocated for myself with my doctor. When I was diagnosed t2d in 2022 they didn’t mention anything about GLP-1’s to me and the medicine wasn’t even in a shortage at that time. It was never mentioned in my yearly follow up visits. If not for my friend on Wegovy I would never even have thought to ask about it. It still rankles me that the conversation had to be started on my end. They were like, you need to lose weight, here’s some metformin, cut carbs, good luck. Deciding to “lean in” and take it seriously. My friend on Wegovy was down 40 lbs when I started and has made minimal/zero lifestyle changes since. He is down an additional 10 lbs a year later, but I know he could have done a lot better if he made more effort. That’s his journey, and I don’t ever say anything to him about it, but I am glad I took stock and saw what was possible. I’m also incredibly grateful for him because his success is what inspired me to start in the first place. Tracking my calories was probably the MOST impactful thing I did for my journey. I really had no idea what my true calorie intake was. “Watching what I ate” didn’t translate to a calorie deficit. Eating nuts/granola and yogurt seemed healthy to me, but I was eating too much of it. I had no idea how calorie dense some foods were. In my previous life I wasn’t steeped in CICO dieting, so this wasn’t triggering for me as I know it is for some. For me, I could never have lost the weight I did without tracking what I was eating. Mentally shifting Mounjaro from “magic potion” into a tool to help me build better habits. Making changes in diet and activity were not a result of Mounjaro, they were changes I made. Mounjaro was a tool that helped those changes stick. On the same sort of track, I didn’t try to incorporate a ‘diet’ into my journey. I watch my nutrition and proteins, but I don’t have any forbidden foods, nor have I tried to do Keto or OMAD or something similar. I wanted to have something sustainable for ME when I was done. Not a strategy that I found difficult that would eventually be tossed aside. Been there, done that. You should figure out what will work for YOU long term. Cutting out sodas and increased water intake – before I would drink 2-4 sodas a day, every day. I’ve told people that and they acted horrified, but it didn’t seem weird to me. Now I get hydration from water and coffee…mostly water. Soda’s taste so sweet it kind of sickens me now. Daily walks, 2 miles a day at a minimum. I try to get 10k+ steps every day but don’t beat myself up about it so long as I get my 2 mile walk in. Reduced Carbs in my meals – Low Carb not No Carb. You need carbs to be healthy, but now I eat half a small French fry instead of a full large fry. I took Day 1 pictures. I then took pictures every month in the same shirt. It feels good to see the progress I made. Get a smart scale and start a profile on Day 1. I know the metrics accuracy is questionable, but it will measure trends over time. It’s great to see that data over the long term. I understand daily weight tracking can be triggering for some people, so this advice isn’t meant to be universal. I had a smart scale but didn’t have a profile set up on my phone, so my earliest days are missing Body Fat percentages, BMI’s, etc….and it really bugs me now. On my Ap my journey starts at 308 lbs instead of 321. UGH Kitty Litter Metrics – This may seem stupid, and I talked about it already, but every week or two when I get that kitty litter it’s a consistent reminder of my success. I am not even sure I could lift and carry 3 (almost 4) pallets of kitty litter now, and I used to carry that around with me 24/7. Given how much joy it has given me, I really do recommend doing something similar in your life. Pick a goal that’s personal that can give you consistent affirmation. I think that there is so much advice about how to get the most out of tirzepatide out there that it can kind of be a little daunting. I do think the most important thing to do when you start is take the shot consistently, drink enough water and start at least tracking your calories. I’m not even saying change your diet day 1, just start tracking what you’re eating honestly. To me, this is the foundation of success. All the other stuff you can transition into your plan over time. As you see success, you’ll probably want to do more. I mean if you are rearing to do more, please do, by all means! I’m just saying, if you are feeling overwhelmed by ALL the things you’re reading to do on the journey, just start with taking the shot, drinking extra water, and tracking your diet. What I did wrong/what I’d do differently I kept my calorie count too low in the beginning, and I really didn’t know better. The weight came off super-fast and I was naively happy about the rate of loss thinking this was how the medicine was supposed to work. There was a point in the very beginning where I was losing a pound a day consistently for like 5 weeks in a row. TMI, but my urine looked like popcorn butter. I’m incredibly lucky that I didn’t have gall bladder or kidney issues. I was so foolish and the only feedback I was getting from people in my life was positive. Around 4 months in I started losing hair. Like, quite a bit of hair, and was I super concerned. That was part of what brought me to this sub-reddit as a regular reader, and not just an occasional browser. I realized I had done myself a disservice by not focusing on my nutrition and macros. The rate of hair loss slowed after a few months of consistently making sure I was getting enough protein. I did not change my TDEE to account for increase in activity. I kept myself classified as ‘Sedentary’ instead of ‘Lightly Active’ after starting my walks. This mistake went on for months before I realized I should have budgeted for more calories per day. I titrated up in the beginning because of minor stalls, not because the medicine wasn’t working. So long as you’re losing at least .5% of your weight, averaged over 4 weeks stay put. In the beginning, if I saw my weight stall out for 2 weeks I’d panic and want to move up. I learned to ride it out, and the weight started coming off again in 2-3 weeks’ time. If you haven’t lost in a month, and you’re not experiencing any negative side effects, move up then. I focused too much on lbs lost, not enough on health in the beginning. Weed and Mounjaro don’t mix…for me. If I smoke, I get the munchies. If I get the munchies, I will eat more than I should. I will eat more than my TDEE for sure. Almost every spike in my weight for the last year directly corresponds to me bringing home something from the dispensary. Now I rarely smoke, it’s just too disruptive for me. I’ve seen people say they don’t get munchies on Mounjaro, or if they do, they are satisfied with a moderate amount of healthy snacks. I’m jealous of those people, truly. I wish strength training had been part of my routine earlier, especially as some one over 50 years old. I didn’t start going to the gym until month 7 or 8, and I’m still making up lost ground on that front. I didn’t take starting measurements. I am not sure how much my waist is reduced because I wfh since Covid and outgrew all my work pants. I think I was around a 48/50 inch waist before, but I wish I knew for sure. I wish I knew how much thinner my arms and legs are. NSV’s that have meant the most to me My wife says hugs are so much better now. When I hug her, I can get in close. Like, not a long arm hug with my belly in the way, where we touch foreheads. A real hug, cheek to cheek where it feels like we are really next to each other and connected. Originally, I was going to say I can wear my wedding ring again, but I’ve lost so much weight that now it is too loose for me to wear without worrying it will fall off unnoticed. But, it was a treasured NSV for me for about 4 months. I’m looking to get this issue resolved at the jeweler now. As I started seeing results my moods lightened, and I have been able to feel good about myself. My wife says she “has me back”, because I am just in a better place now and it’s affected the way I interact with the people in my life. My whole life I tamped down my feelings about my weight and just engaged in an avoidance strategy emotionally when it came to dealing with it. I can honestly say that I never even clocked my depression around the topic, because I had just resigned myself to being a fat guy. If I couldn’t change it, why get worked up about it? I do feel like myself again. I have restored confidence. I wish more people could have access to this medicine, because I have seen firsthand the myriads of ancillary benefits that can come from it. My need for a CPap has been reduced, maybe eliminated. My friends husband died from OSA in his sleep a decade ago, and it freaked me out so much I immediately got diagnosed and got the CPap. But I had to forgo wearing it after some dental surgery in July and it certainly *seems* like the issue is resolved. I am waiting on a sleep study to confirm, because I am so scared of what could happen to me due to OSA. This is a weird one, that I did not expect. I have always played video games. Since 2014 I’ve played Destiny/Destiny 2 consistently. And by consistently, I mean I have over 8k hours of playtime in this franchise alone. I usually play 1-3 hours a night after my wife goes to bed. Since starting Mounjaro my desire to play this game just basically evaporated. I have no desire to play, nor do I miss playing. Clearly Mounjaro has changed how my brain processes dopamine in some way. My wife is thrilled, and I am happy about that too. Wrapping this all up, I want to say, it was hard to post this. Partly because it’s difficult to put yourself out there, but also because I know that my results are not typical, and my heart breaks when I see people asking why it isn’t working for them. I feel strangely guilty about how well I have responded on this medication, which has truly been amazing for me. But I also have been inspired by posts like this one and wanted to contribute. Thank you to the 12 people or so that will have read this entire novel. As I said above, I wanted a post that had my whole experience in one place. If anyone I am close to wants to know what it was all like I can send them here. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. In case anyone cares, my doses were: 2.5 4 weeks 5.0 10 weeks 7.5 16 weeks 10.0 from week 31 through to present (23 shots so far) submitted by /u/IFeartheWiggles to r/Mounjaro [link] [comments]

Went from a skinny guy to somewhat jacked. Have been at it since 8 years. Never followed any crazy diets (keto etc) Just consistency and conscious eating.
Height - 6 feet Starting weight - 60kgs Current weight - 83kgs Calories - 2500 ( cheat meals on every weekends) Protein intake - 130 - 160 grams Traning split - started with bro split (chest, back, shoulders, arms, legs, core and cardio on separate days) Now, I’ve moved to Push Pull Legs What made me change- People called me lanky, dandi(stick) etc, never liked it. Always wanted to get stronger. People ignored me and my presence wanted to work on that and change that. Got dumped for being too thin. Supplements - just multivitamins & whey isolates (On gold standard) Diet: When I started working out, I didn’t know much about diets etc, All I knew was that I had to load on some protein to gain muscle. I had 20-22 eggs a day (not recommended at all, don’t know how my kidneys could take it) followed by some roasted chicken and 2hour workouts. I never believed in supplements, specially whey protein. Then i started reading more about it, gained knowledge about diets and supplements. Now, I am just conscious about what I eat, I eat protein in all my meals throughout the day and avoid eating sugar(or sugary snacks/drinks) + you just can’t win an argument about food in a Punjabi household. Future plan: Though came a long way I am not satisfied yet as I want have abs now.(had them, back when I was stick thin) Need cut on calories and carbs. Need to limit my cheat meals to once a month. Should I change split from PPL to something else ? How should I start tracking my macros any good app that you guys would recommend for indian diets? Which diet would you suggest? PS. Idk what I’m trying to show in the first video 😂 submitted by /u/Rish2695 to r/Fitness_India [link] [comments]

Keto Snack Website Recommendations?
I’m trying to get my dad a gift card to a website that sells keto snacks so he has some to choose from. He usually just makes his own but I think the connivence is something he’ll appreciate. Do you guys have any recommendations? Preferably in the U.S, but that’s not a must. submitted by /u/geethaanks to r/keto [link] [comments]

I think I got attractive and it might be hurting my relationship.
Buckle in, this is gonna be a long one... So some background details. I (36 M) have been happily 'married' to my wife (34 F) for about 15 years. I shared in a prior story that we met playing Halo 3 and I moved across the country for her. When we first got together I was 21 and she was 19. We aren't married officially. I've never really seen the point in the ceremony as I'm not a religious person. My wife is more spiritual but not religious. She also doesn't feel the need to get married. One of the best things about our relationship is we haven't gotten into a fight one time since we got together. Not one. I'm so grateful to have her in my life. To explain our situation, four years ago, I was kinda chunky - like a dad bod situation, and my wife had gotten a bit thick due to covid. She isn't a big girl, just a little fluffy. The end of 2021 came around and I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Honestly, I didn't know much about the disease other than you're not supposed to eat sugar and go easy on the carbs. When I learned all the terrible things that can happen to you because of this condition, I freaked out! Losing your limbs, going blind, losing your hearing, other terrible things. Its all so crazy to me to think about to this day! So I took it serious and started to improve my diet. My A1C (the average of your sugar levels over the past 3 months if I recall correctly) got much better, my glucose levels averaged around 120, and honestly I did lose a little weight, but balanced out around 200. To be clear, I'm not a tall guy, about 5'6, so even though I lost about 40 lbs over 2 years with proper diet, 200 is still thick at my height. Fortunately my wife is 5'0 so I'm tall to her which we both enjoy. I wanted to lose a bit more weight so I started going to the gym. I saw immediate returns. Since I was already practically keto out of necessity, my high protein, low carb diet was a perfect match. Over the first year, I lost another 40lbs. 160 is where I stayed for a while. I was losing fat and building muscle at the same time. Now, I'm lean, have muscle tone, and instead of avoiding tight shirts, I wear them intentionally. Also, let me tell you, my love life also improved. Not to give away details, but I last longer, we can do things we couldn't do before, and my wife initiates things more often too. My sugar hasn't been over 120 this whole year and my A1C is exactly where it should be! I'm living a healthy life and enjoying being in my relationship more than ever! So lets get to the issue. About six months ago I got offered to move from my company to another company. To be clear, I did NOT apply for this job. They reach out to me on linked-in and things for me and my wife changed drastically. First of all, I was no longer working late shift. Second, my salary increased nearly triple what it was! AND lastly, I got a HUGE signing bonus. That signing bonus would change my life. When I was young, I never got braces. My teeth have always been crooked. This money mean that I could have my smile repaired overnight with a full set of veneers. Now, before everyone jumps on me for destroying my teeth, I also never had the greatest oral hygiene. Not to say it's the worst, but its not great. I've had cavity after cavity filled, a few teeth pulled, a bridge put in, and some chips from an accident when I was kid repaired a few times. This felt like a chance to fix everything at once! I talked to my wife about the bonus I got and she was so supportive. Again let me share that I first asked if there was anything we could use this for elsewhere. She told me that with my new salary, anything that she wanted could wait. My wife knew how self conscious I was about my smile and she was so excited to let me get a brand new smile. So... I did! Being a guy... I guess I didn't notice this all that much but apparently women started giving me more and more compliments. Mostly around my style as I do tend to dress a bit more professionally these days for my new role, which I thought was just 'Hey nice outfit'. Of course being thick, I didn't think they were flirting, just being nice. My wife on the other hand saw it very different. When we would go out, waitresses were starting to conversate with me more, some girls apparently were giving me 'bedroom eyes', and again... my dumb self didn't notice that. I'm already with my soulmate! Why would I care what other girls say to me or how they look at me? Everything I want is waiting for me when I get home from work. The person I want to spend my time with is already waiting to give her time to me! I don't want anyone else. I've been in love for 15 years! NOW, the trouble. We went to Target so I could pick up the medication for my diabetes and so she could grab Starbucks. After I got my medicine I walked over to where the Keto/Sugar Free snacks are in the health aisle. You know, the Atkins peanut butter cups, Quest chips... you get the idea. A woman who was definitely younger than me walked up to me and asked me if the chocolate covered peanuts I picked up were any good. I started sharing my now wealth of knowledge on these items. We made a few jokes about the taste of some of the stuff, laughed a little, and just had a fun conversation. I then excused myself and told her I had to go find my better half. That was the first time I noticed. She seemed disappointed that I was taken, but didn't say it out loud. It turns out my wife was hiding on the other side of the aisle THE WHOLE TIME! I found her immediately, was happy to see her, gave her a little kiss, took her hand and we went to check out. Later that night my wife seemed unusually quiet. I do know sometimes when she starts her flow she gets that way so I figured maybe that was happening. My wife then told me she was gonna go back to bed and lay down a bit. Something felt off about it... and after 10 minutes I walked back to see if she was ok. I found her BALLING into a pillow! Immediately I moved over to her side and started rubbing her back. Of course I asked her what was wrong and she got her self together enough to look up at me with tear filled eyes and with the quietest, meekest voice I've ever heard she said "Please don't leave me..." I WAS FLOORED! My heart shattered into 1000 pieces. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what was going on. What did I do to make her think that? I don't stay out late, she knows where I am 100% of the time, we willingly hand each other our phones when the other missing theirs.... To say I was caught of guard was an understatement. This is when she filled me in on the fact that women in general have been more and more interested in me lately, and that she's seen how some of them look at me like I'm a slab of meat. My mind was blown. I didn't push back but I asked what she meant. Little by little she started to get herself together and explained to me all the attention I've been getting. The looks, the chats, the attention, the approaches. And tonight when that 'busty blonde barbie' was chatting me up, she realized that if I wanted to upgrade... I really could. UPGRADE!? To what? How do you go up from soulmate!? I immediately told her that I never had any intent of leaving her, or that I wanted to, and if I was flirting I didn't mean too. She reassured me that I wasn't flirting. Bless her heart... My wife explained that she was listening to her husband share his life experience and his passions, not a cheating A-hole trying to get some . We both kinda laughed. We talked for about an hour after that. Eventually, we cuddled, watched a movie, and fell asleep in each others arms. The last few days have been good. Like really good. But is their anything I can do to make sure the love of my life never feels like I'm going to leave her? I can't stress enough that this woman enhances me. She emboldens my passions, she gives me all that I need and want.... I tell her I love her every morning, I call her beautiful as a greeting, physical touch, kisses, hugs! I'm not distant! I'm active and I want to be with her till I'm old and gray and burying her so that she doesn't have to endure the pain of losing me. Any advice is welcome. TL:DR Got diabetes, lost weight, got in shape, got a new job, got new teeth, girls like me, and my wife is terrified I'm going to leave her. Help! UPDATE: So I've been reading the comments as they've come in and I appreciate the kind remarks. My wife got home about 15 minutes ago and I showed her the post like a few of you suggested. You guys were right. She really appreciated the post. As to getting married, she still thinks it's a goofy tradition made up by religious people and currently just a good way for people to waist a pile of cash. However, one of you posted all the legal benefits to being married and I honestly can't disagree with that. So... we are getting married. But she firmly said "No dresses, no DJ, no food, no archway. Just a few family members for witnesses and whoever needs to officiate." I couldn't help but laugh. But I guess we're going on a honeymoon in September around her birthday. She wanted me to pass her thanks along to those of you who offered your support and advice. Thanks for the assist Reddit. submitted by /u/VertexReaper to r/offmychest [link] [comments]

Maltitol? I bought some keto snack with Maltitol and felt like I'm dying
Gut issues, muscle cramps, I notice I feel like crap. This time around, I'm not reaping keto benefits. I feel tired and lethargic all the time and constantly nap. I went back to full time studying so I can have control over my daily schedule, bit I just practically sleep all the time. I noticed I feel like crap more often when I eat my keto snacks or caffeine tea ( jasmine, green tea etc). I found certain artificial sugars I can't take and decide to cut out which are : Isomalt ( gosh that almost killed me- gut wise) Sucralose ( I think it kicked me out of ketosis) And the latest is maltitol. Omggosh, i ate a bag of sugar free cola gummies a few days ago, and had diarrhea the whole night, and muscle cramps and insomnia till now. I saw the word stevia and thought it was safe and didn't read further. Then I saw the word maltitol in bold. 🫠 Guys. Help? submitted by /u/rose-dacquoise to r/keto [link] [comments]

AITAH for Telling My Sister’s Boyfriend to "Get Out" After He Refused to Eat the Meal I Cooked?
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is u/Pixies_Love_Petals. She posted in r/AITAH. Thanks to u/BakingGiraffeBakes for the rec! Do NOT comment on Original Posts. Latest update is 7 days old. Mood Spoiler: things are looking up Original Post: September 15, 2024 So, here’s what happened: I (28F) invited my sister (25F) and her boyfriend (26M) over for dinner. I love cooking and had spent hours preparing this fancy meal: homemade pasta, a slow-cooked ragu, a salad, and a tiramisu for dessert. I was really proud of it and excited to have them over. When they arrived, everything was fine at first. We sat down, and I started serving the food. Her boyfriend (let’s call him Steve) stared at the pasta for a moment, then looked at me and said, "I don’t eat carbs." At first, I thought he was joking, but nope—he was dead serious. He goes on about how he’s "super into keto" and "carbs are the enemy." Okay, fine, that’s his choice. But when I offered to make him a salad or something else on the spot, he refused and said that I should have known about his diet beforehand. This is where it gets weird. He then pulls out a small Tupperware container from his bag (!!!), filled with what looked like boiled chicken and broccoli, and starts to eat it at my dinner table while the rest of us are trying to enjoy the meal I spent hours making. I was stunned and, honestly, kind of insulted. I told him it was rude to bring his own food without mentioning it to me beforehand, and he should have at least given me a heads-up. He then goes off about how people need to "respect his dietary choices" and that I was being "controlling" by not accommodating his needs. At this point, I’d had enough. I told him, "If you can’t eat what’s served and won’t even let me make something else, then maybe you should just get out." He stood up, said something like "I’m just trying to be healthy," grabbed his Tupperware, and walked out. My sister stayed for a bit but eventually left too, saying I overreacted. Now my sister’s mad at me, saying I embarrassed her boyfriend and made them both feel unwelcome. My mom thinks I should apologize, but my friends are on my side, saying Steve was being incredibly rude. AITAH for telling him to get out? OOP's Comment/Top Comment: Commenter: Your sister didn't give you a heads up about his diet? OOP: Honestly, no, she didn’t. I’m not sure if she even knew how serious he was about the whole keto thing because she never mentioned it. She eats pretty much anything, so I assumed he was the same. But even if she had, I feel like it still would’ve been polite for him to at least say something beforehand instead of just showing up with his own meal. I would’ve happily made something keto-friendly if I had known! There is no consensus bot on AITAH, but top comments were NTA Update Post: September 21, 2024 (6 days later) Well, y’all, buckle up because things have escalated in a way I never expected. After my initial post, I figured things would calm down once my sister had time to cool off. Spoiler alert: they did not. So, the day after I told Steve to leave, my sister texts me saying they want to "talk things through" at a family dinner. I assumed it would be just the three of us, maybe at a neutral restaurant, where we could hash it out like adults. Nope. Instead, my sister invites my parents, my brother, and Steve’s parents to this "dinner" at my parents' house, turning it into some kind of weird intervention. I show up thinking it’ll just be a casual conversation, but the moment I walk in, Steve’s mom (let’s call her Carol) is already going off about how "Steve has always had special dietary needs" and how “people who care about him should respect his boundaries.” The woman acts like the guy has a life-threatening allergy, not a trendy diet. My mom is sitting there looking super uncomfortable, while my dad’s just quietly sipping his beer, clearly wishing he were anywhere else. So, Carol starts listing off Steve’s dietary restrictions, and she’s acting like I personally offended the whole keto community by serving pasta. Then—brace yourselves—Carol pulls out a folder. Yes, a literal folder, with printouts. She hands one to me, one to my mom, and one to my dad. I’m flipping through this thing, and it’s full of Steve’s "dietary guidelines," suggested meal plans, and even a list of keto-friendly restaurants we could go to "in the future." At this point, I’m doing everything I can not to laugh, but it gets worse. Steve pipes up and says he’s willing to forgive me for "disrespecting his lifestyle" if I agree to host a redo dinner where I follow his dietary restrictions to the letter. He says this will prove I’m “serious” about making amends and respecting his needs going forward. I thought he was joking, but no—he was dead serious. He even pulled out his phone to show me some keto recipe apps that I "might find helpful." I was in total shock. My sister, by the way, said absolutely nothing during all of this, just staring at her plate like she wanted to disappear. My mom, bless her, tries to smooth things over by suggesting we all just eat whatever we want when we’re together, but Carol snaps, “It’s not that simple!” She says that in their family, they "all follow keto together," and that’s why Steve is so "passionate" about it. At this point, I’ve had enough. I stood up and said, “Look, I’m not redoing the dinner. I’m not making anyone a special keto feast. If Steve can’t eat what I cook, that’s fine, but bringing his own meal to my dinner without even telling me was disrespectful, and I’m not apologizing for feeling that way.” And then—this is where it gets absolutely bonkers—Steve’s dad stands up, points at me, and says, “This is exactly why Steve doesn’t trust women to understand him. They always make it about themselves.” The whole room went silent. My dad finally spoke up, saying, “I think it’s time for you all to leave,” and started walking toward the door, basically escorting Steve’s parents out. Steve and my sister stayed behind, but Steve was furious. He started yelling about how “family should support each other,” and then accused me of trying to sabotage their relationship because I’m “jealous” of what they have. At that point, I just walked out and left the whole mess behind. Here’s the kicker, though: a couple of days later, my sister called me and told me she and Steve were taking a “break” because she “needed time to think.” Apparently, this whole keto fiasco was the last straw in a long list of controlling behavior from Steve. She didn’t realize just how bad it was until the whole family saw it play out at dinner. She even told me that Steve had been trying to get her to follow his diet for months, but she was hiding snacks in her car just to get a break from all the keto madness! So now, Steve’s gone full radio silent, my sister is staying with me for the time being, and I’m still getting passive-aggressive texts from Carol about “how hurt Steve is” and how “he’s just misunderstood.” Honestly, I’m just glad my sister is finally seeing how controlling this guy was. TL;DR: Steve’s keto obsession led to a full-blown family intervention where his mom handed out dietary guidelines, and now my sister is taking a break from him because she realized how controlling he is. submitted by /u/LucyAriaRose to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

But even if she had, I feel like it still would’ve been polite for him to at least say something beforehand instead of just showing up with his own meal. I would’ve happily made something keto-friendly if I had known! rebekahster They should have given you the heads up when accepting the invite. Even if she didn’t know before, he should have said something like “sounds great, does your sis know I’m Keto?” And all would have been good. SnooMacarons4844 And still didn’t say anything before dinner was served so let OP waste her time plating up his dinner just for him to pull out his tasteless, room temperature meal. Tessie1966 My son’s girlfriend has a gluten allergy. I know this because my son informed me before I made food for them. My husband’s daughter is vegetarian, my daughter has a milk allergy. I wouldn’t know any of this unless someone told me. You aren’t a mind reader. **Judgement - NTA*\* Update - 6 days later Well, y’all, buckle up because things have escalated in a way I never expected. Comments WhereWeretheAdults I'm glad your sis is realizing what an AH she was dating. Tell her to standby for the love-bombing as Steve tries to worm his way back in. As for this Carol who thinks she is the queen bee, a nice text saying "You have absolutely zero input in how I live my life" and a block on all channels is in order. Support your sis and do your best to remove her from this trainwreck of a family. Aposematicpebble Just a "He does not matter enough for me to change a single thing. Bye" would do. Beth21286 OP should just text mummy 'You're both as delulu as each other. Stay away from us.' Then block and live your life in carb-loving bliss. “Ew carbs, your food is gross…wait why do I have to leave now!?”
Not OOP: AITAH for Telling My Sister’s Boyfriend to "Get Out" After He Refused to Eat the Meal I Cooked? So, here’s what happened: I (28F) invited my sister (25F) and her boyfriend (26M) over for dinner. Protein Is Not Fuel. A Lesson From A Long Weekend.
I know talking about diet choices is worse than politics and religion but I think we've lost the plot on how to fuel for tough backcountry efforts. I've started to notice that a lot of social media influencers in the backpacking space are often talking about snacking on protein and focusing heavily on protein when talking through how they pack for their hikes. A few weekends ago I was 2/3 of the way through an intense 6 hour stretch of hard hiking with a few guys who aren't completely new to backpacking but also not well trained athletes. They all are in good fitness however. About 4 hours in all three of them were coming unglued and struggling to keep up. Weather and light were going to be an issue if we didn't keep moving. I then asked one guy who was in the worst shape when the last time he had taken in any sugar. To that point he hadn't eaten any sugar, just beef jerky, and some nuts. I handed him a bag of gummy bears and 15 minutes later he was coming back to life and able to keep up. I poked around the YouTubes and saw one of the most influential people in the backpacking world had recently had a bought of rhabdomyolysis on an intense hike. This is super common among the crossfit/keto community as one of the major causes of it is glycogen depletion. When your body runs out of fuel it starts to break muscle down to convert it to usable fuel and the byproduct of that process can is very dangerous if left unchecked as we saw with this influencer who needed to be rescued. Now, this may not be the case for him as it can be caused by some other issues as well like extreme dehydration. There is no argument that protein is vital for muscle health and overall health but it is not a primary fuel source for any meaningful efforts. Eat some sugar people. submitted by /u/lazerdab to r/backpacking [link] [comments]

Partner is not on keto but steals all my keto snacks 😩 UPDATE!
so following my original post which is here… https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/comments/134yc61/partner_is_not_on_keto_but_steals_all_my_keto/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1 ETA - I have lada diabetes - I just realised this wasn’t in the main info, but it is relevant. I get quite bad lows which mean that sometimes I need snacks. we had a talk and things got a bit better for a few days. Which was great. However … the the other night I got out of the shower and he had opened a packet of my nuts, which was unopened, because “I just wanted a few handfuls”. I went … a bit mental. A bit too much to be honest. I pulled out ALL the food from the fridge, pantry and snack drawer and laid them out into two piles. Things he (and the kids) can eat on one and things I can eat on the other. The “my” pile was about 10 things, there one had over 100. I laid out how frustrated I was by this, and how him taking the ONLY THING I can eat annoyed me. I told him im making a “me only” drawer and he agreed to this, apologised and assured me this would never happen again. He was initially defensive but confronted with the visuals he couldn’t deny it. He has hundreds of options for snacks and I have ONE. He’s not on low carb and eats junk all the time. I also brought up him ( and my eldest 2 kids ) bugging me about not eating enough, which has been a thing. I couldn’t eat breakfast with them that day because my bf made it and it was very high carb (pancakes) same with lunch (grilled cheese) so i just skipped. I pointed out that they are not supporting me, which is okay, but also if they eat one of the only snacks I can eat (when they have dozens of choices) then they are actively sabotaging me. This upset them. It actually led to a bigger conversation in which my partner told me he was really unhappy with his appearance. He told me he’s aware that he gained wait, and seemed shocked a bit when I agree with him. I told him I’m happy to support him on low carb, but only if he commits to it fully, and he still doesn’t get my snacks. I feel a lot better after all your advice. He’s a good guy and I love him, so no splitting up. Just an idiot sometimes 😆 submitted by /u/Yer_maw_is_a_plum to r/keto [link] [comments]

OOP got in much healthier physical shape and his girlfriend seems to hate it
I am NOT OP. Original post by u/420bonerstalin in /r/relationship_advice trigger warnings: body transformation mood spoilers: happy I lost a bunch of weight and gained a lot of muscle and my girlfriend no longer finds me attractive. - July 9, 2022. So context me and my girlfriend (28/27) have been going out for 3 years (4 in November). At the time we met we were both kinda pudgy; not overweight just kinda plumpish I guess. And we stayed that weight until last year where due to a health scare (false alarm) and convincing from my mom I decided to lose some weight. I started eating healthier, went on keto and still am, worked out, went to the gym and as of about 1 month ago I lost 50 pounds and gained a ton of muscle. Excercising is now my stress relief. Went from pudgy to toned and muscle and I love the way I feel. I feel so much better and happier. Now my girlfriend is still the same weight but that doesn’t matter to me. I still love her. That being said over the past 2-3 months she’s been distant sorta. She doesn’t like cuddling anymore (she was always a big cuddler) or she doesn’t touch or feel up my chest and stomach randomly; little things like that have disappeared. I kinda thought maybe this is the natural progression of a long term relationship until I confronted her about it and she said that ever since I lost weight and gained muscle she finds me less attractive. This was a shock to me. I didn’t expect my weight loss to make more attractive to her like (though I do feel more confident). I’ve heard of relationships changing because 1 partner gained a lot of weight but for it to happen because I lost a lot of weight really gave me a curve ball. Our relationship is still strong (at least that’s what I want to believe) but I can feel the seeds of something growing and not in a good way. I don’t want to go back to how I was. I feel great and happier and in no way am pushing her to lose weight nor do I don’t push my diet on her. Since I do the cooking I cook my food that I like and can eat and cook her food that she likes. Major helpful comments: /u/SnooDoughnuts2846 She chose you the way you were back then. It's possible that she is still adjusting to the new you. Maybe she's insecure about herself, maybe she honestly preferred the old you. Perhaps she misses sharing nice food and activities you did pre-keto/exercise. /u/tinylittleslav i agree with everyone here saying to have an honest conversation with her and that she’s likely adjusting to a new you and lifestyle. definitely don’t change your habits that make you happy, but i can imagine maybe she misses meals with you before that weren’t keto, or doing things you’d normally do with her before you went to the gym. ask her if there are ways for you to spend more quality time with her. it may not be rational, but she might be feeling like you spend more time working on yourself than with her? (emphasis on not changing your habits though and how some of these possible feelings aren’t 100% rational!) just open the conversation up to why you she finds you less attractive. in my experience, any weight changes in a relationship can be hard. i went through eating disorder recovery about halfway through my relationship, and it took a lot of reassurance and work on myself to get over the fear that my boyfriend finds me less attractive now. it was honestly hard feeling like my boyfriend was fitter than me, and the weight gain made me feel like i was gonna lose him or that he was embarrassed of me. you suddenly getting into shape probably caused some similar feelings… im sure she’s still proud of the work you put in, but it’s easy to feel like you don’t fit into your partners life anymore when there’s weight fluctuations. Time to sit down and have an open discussion. Definitely don't change yourself for her. You feel good and that is the most important part. But try to find out where this sudden change in attraction is coming from and decide from there if this relationship has a future. [Update] I lost a bunch of weight and gained a lot of muscle and my girlfriend no longer finds me attractive. - July 16, 2022 First of all I want to say thank you so much for your support, advice, and personal anecdotes. It really put things in perspective. Secondly most of the advice came down to talking to her and I knew I needed to do that but I wasn’t sure how to approach it, what to say, or how to say it. So I planned out what I wanted to say using peoples various comments, rehearsed it and planned out different outcomes that could occur (I’m a planner to the nth degree). I confronted her and kept pushing until she gave a definitive answer. And it turns out most of you were right. Basically she felt that she’d become second in my life and my lifestyle, diet, and exercising came first. For example, after Work she would usually play some video games and we would either play together or Id watch some YouTube or anime while she played. But over the past year now I go to work out immediately after work and she misses that time together even if we were doing our separate things being in the same room together hanging out was just a lot of fun together. Or when we watch movies together (theatre or at home) she’d have some snacks while I didn’t eat anything and she misses sharing that experience with me. She must have listed like half a dozen other things and in the end it made her feel like I was no longer interested in her. Honestly I felt like such an idiot for not seeing it. I was being selfish and I was pissed at myself for not seeing it. I’ve always been kinda dense but this takes the cake. I told her that Ill never make her feel that way again and I’ll never make her feel like she’s second. I’m not going to go back to my previous weight and she’s ok with that. But I’m willing to work with her on this and if that means putting on 5-10 lbs or so for some lifestyle changes in her favor then I think I’m ok with that. This past week it’s felt like a new spark has been lit in our relationship. It feels like when we first got together and in the honeymoon phase. I’ve changed my diet so it’s not so strict, cut down on exercise sessions, and spending time with her after work instead of going straight to working out. You guys have collectively saved my relationship. I cannot express the gratitude I feel. So once again thank you thank you thank you so much. How at 41, I Finally Cut to Abs (and Became a Pirate)
Original After years of hard work, this is my latest cut picture and the first one I am really proud of. First, here's the Progress Picture. At 41, I'm older than most here. I'm going to outline some things I've learned in the hope that it will help others. I have three big takeaways that I want to lay out. 1) This progression shows what is possible when starting out as a skinny-fat desk worker in your late 30's. I have never had a muscular physique nor excelled in sports to any degree. 2) Over the past few years exercising years I've gotten much stronger, and I have bulked and cut many many times. But whenever I cut, I was disappointed with the results. I simply became skinny, with little definition. But this last cut was different for a few reasons. I switched to a body building routine I paid extra attention to to abs and obliques I counted protein religiously I took the plunge and cut an extra 7 lbs lower than I normally do, even though this put me at seemingly low overall weight 3) I got a surprising result. DEXA showed I was able to gain 4 lbs of lean to my "lower trunk" despite being on a drastic cut. I believe this was possible due to noob gains. This is odd since I have been power-lifting for many years. But only during my cut did I concentrate hard on exercises exclusively hitting abs and obliques. My theory is that you can experience noob gains in specific areas that are underdeveloped while cutting. Quick Background I've always been really skinny. I was 125 lbs in high school 5'11". Working out daily and playing football didn't change that. (My buddies all packed on muscle, but I stayed super-thin) After high school I packed on weight, but it was all fat. At 35 I was 170 lbs, very skinny fat. I had bad wrists and a bad back. I was probably well over 35% BF, judging by future DEXA scans. But I still looked pretty "thin" in clothes. I had a pot-belly. 4 years ago I discovered keto on Reddit and gave it a shot. I lost a ton of weight going down to about 149 lbs. This was the first time I felt in control of my body. I lost lots of fat, but now I was really skinny and weak. I then started to exercise slowly, learning along the way. I started with exercise bands, and a simple workout. (I was so weak!) I eventually got into power lifting and olympic lifting. I wasn't great at it, but I kept getting stronger. Lifting Scores My lifting scores were really at the bottom. Starting lifting scores DL 95 lbs Squat 65 lbs Bench 65 lbs Over the next few years I found routines, hit the gym 5-6 days a week and made progress. I cycled my bulks and cuts. I made mistakes along the way. Current lifting scores DL 350 lbs (yay) Squat 215 lbs (meh) Bench 165 lbs (boo) (Dead lifting comes easy to me, which is great considering I used to have chronically bad wrists and lower back. That's all gone now, and I feel fantastic.) Note: I have relatively long arms. That probably helps my deadlift and hurts my bench. Main mistakes over the years past I bulked too fast, causing me to have to cut too much. I chased the immediate power lifting scores at the expense of packing on fat. One time I bulked added 2.6lbs per week! I now aim for .6lbs per week. I didn't count protein. Once I did, I realized I was deficient. "I eat fine. I don't need to count macros. I don't want to live like a lab rabbit." I was wrong. You should count macros at least once. This will give you a good audit of your diet. You'll be forced to make adjustments. Going forward you'll have a better intuitive idea of your macros and better habits. I didn't stick to rigorous programs at first. My worst progress was when I just went to the gym and "worked out really hard". My best progress was when I decided on a program and stuck to it for many months. This Last Cut I was invited to a fun pirate party for a friends 50th birthday. I challenged myself to go semi-bare chested and show off a great physique. I knew of the event 6 months in advance, so I planned accordingly. So far every time I very time I cut I just looked thin, with no definition. I had 4 DEXAs previously and doing the math I calculated that I needed to cut to nearly 135lbs! I never had the nerve to cut so low as it sounded ridiculous. But considering that I was 125 lbs in high school, maybe it makes some sense. I was very nervous of the outcome. Results No one was more shocked than me at the results. Several friends asked if I was wearing some sort of fake muscle shirt! After the photo (and party) I stopped cutting, I shot up nearly 5 lbs overnight. The abs remain but they are much less defined now. (The DEXA showing 13% was taken 10 days after the party.) This is what I looked like a few weeks later at 145 lbs Stats Weight160lbs => 138lbs (22lbs Lost) Age41 years old BF% At final I used three methods 13% - DEXA (10 days after picture) 7% - Calipers (5-point Jackson Pollock) 10.45% - Impedance Scale DEXA Scan Results My cut was pretty drastic. I was worried that I'd lose muscle. I took a "before" DEXA. It was many months before I started the cut, but it's a pretty good comparison. Previous DEXA to Final picture was 19.4% => 13% Lean 7.2lbs GAINED Fat 10.0lbs LOST Diet DEXA scan says my RMR is 1500. My cal/day started at 2,000 and tapered down to 1,000 cal / day towards the end. Looking at my daily log Week 1: 2,000 cal per day Week 2: 1,500 cal per day Week 4: 1,300 cal per day Week 6: 1,200 cal per day Week 8 - 10: 900 cal per day (But If I'm honest I was not hitting that and averaging 1,025 cal per day) This is pretty extreme so I started cutting out 200 calories a day over a week to ease into it. Breakfast Coffee with 1 tbsp heavy cream Lunch Low cal fish (Talapia, Mahi Mahi) (no oil) 8oz brussle sprouts Snack(I'd usually eat my snack right before hitting the gym) Protein bar or shake (Epic Chicken bar has 15g Protein and 100cals) Alternates: Pork Rinds, Sardines in Water on Lettuce, Bone Broth, Greek Yogurt, 2 eggs Dinner 8oz New York Steak Alternates: Chicken, Turkey, Shrimp Veggies Alcohol No way, Jose. No cheating this time. Exercise Routine Before this cut I have never done a bodybuilding routine. I have only done power lifting routines with accessories. Previous routine was nSuns AMRAP. I also ran Ben Pollack's Unf* your Program. The nSuns had the biggest impact bringing my combined power lifting score from 538lbs to 779lbs. During the cut I did Scott Herman's Bodybuilding Split. Which is basically Monday: Chest (Dumbell, cable flys, etc) Tuesday: Back,Biceps, obliques (pull downs, curls, etc) Wednesday Glutes,Quads,Traps (Squat, etc) Thursday: Hamstrings Shoulders (Dead lift, Lat Raises, etc) Friday: Abs and Obliques Saturday: Rest Sunday: Start Over Cardio Moderate. 20 minutes Stairmaster after a workout. Some light jogging for 20 minutes at a time. A Note on Abs and Obliques My obliques got HUGE. DEXA literally says that I gained 4lbs of the total 7lbs in my lower trunk area (abs and obliques). I am positive that all of this happened during the cut and not before. A few thoughts. I think I was severely under trained in my obliques, thus I was able to experience the magical noob-gains in that area, while my other, more trained areas, stayed about the same. Compound lifts alone did NOT work my abs and obliques enough. I needed target exercises such as Wood Choppers Side Bends They key seems to be to do these SLOW, controlled, with solid form, and really feel the obliques. Mentally isolate the oblique and try to only use that muscle for the exercise. -- I hope that this encourages some older folks or skinny-fat folks to hang in there and stay the course. And remember kids, count your protein. -- EDIT My Lifting Scores I HAVE NOT been "lifting for four years". Four years ago I started to diet and get more healthy. The first few years of my four-year journey consisted of light exercises, learning how to exercise. I didn't even know what a squat or deadlift was 2+ years ago. I started my first serious strength program (nSUNS AMRAP) 13 months ago. I added 270lbs to my combined score within 6 months. As stated in the "Mistakes" section, I wasted time by not following a rigorous program. Being a strongman powerlifter is NOT my goal. I am not offering powerlifting advice or claiming to be good at it. Frame-Size I'm really small-framed. So please keep that in mind before applying anything I did to you. My dad and brother are 6'4" and naturally hover at 280lbs. They have big hands and thick wrists. (My dad once dieting down to 210lbs and he was THIN.) My brother told me that even if he doesn't workout for a few years he can walk into the gym rep 215lb on the bench with ease. My wrists are 5.75"! (I think that's considered small even for a woman.) I wear a size small shirt, have a 30" waste, small wrists, small ankles, narrow feet. I naturally hover at about 160 lbs. My DEXA shows my RMR at only 1500 cal/day. Most guys are naturally much larger and need more calories. I do not recommend my daily cal/day for others. Also, this was a temporary cut over 10 weeks for a specific date. This is not a lifestyle, this is an experiment. -- Bonus Photos In celebration of hitting 3.5k upvotes, here's a bonus pirate photo! ARG! That's a professional Johny Depp impersonator. He pulled it off really well by getting extremely drunk and staggering about slurring his words. submitted by /u/justdrowsin to r/Fitness [link] [comments]

Breaks my heart watching my husband trying to lose weight
I absolutely love him, no matter what size he is or will become. He's 6"5, and big, just a big guy. But we both agreed it would be healthier for him to lose weight while he is still young. But tonight when he came to bed happy with snacks, he saw my face and knew exactly what I was going to ask. "How many calories" because I knew he was over his RDI. He reappears, almost in tears. And I feel like such a dick, I hate reminding him about his calories. He thanks me for reminding him. But I feel like the bad guy. Who wants to stop their SO from eating, their little joys get taken away :( Edit; thank you all for the helpful comments, and to the not so helpful also. Feeling the love Reddit ♥ Edit 2; I realise that a lot of people will think I have unrealistic standards for my husband due to my size, but the main goal is for him to feel comfortable in his skin, and feel good. He's hot no matter what 😏 submitted by /u/throwawaykidatschool to r/confession [link] [comments]

7 month transformation: 200 lbs down to 172 lbs
Progress pics here M/26/6' I started at around 200 lbs in the first pic, 175 lbs in the second, and 172 in the third. The first and second pictures are roughly 6 months apart, and the last two pictures are about a month and a half apart. In the first picture, I was entirely focused on strength gains and putting up bigger numbers in the bench, squat and deadlift. After ballooning up too much, I decided it was time to lose some weight. Diet I decided that I would try a ketogenic style diet for my cut. I say "style" because I didn't really care much about being "in ketosis" - I quickly discovered that simply by eating fat and avoiding carbs I was much more satiated and able to stay out of the kitchen and snacking throughout the day. I also kept my protein intake at 1g per lb of bodyweight, which according to the keto bible will knock you out of ketosis. The protein intake didn't seem to affect me too greatly. I ate 3 meals per day, and tried my best to stick to the eating hours of 12pm-6pm, though this didn't always happen. As this was a low carb diet, I ate plenty of fatty foods. Breakfast would be something like this: 3 eggs 4 slices of bacon 1 oz cheddar Avocado Lunch: 8 oz ground beef 1 oz cheese Serving of veggies Dinner was similar to lunch. For snacks, I drank protein shakes to fill in my protein requirements and ate quest bars for the fiber and protein as well. Occasionally I would have some full fat Greek yogurt (Fage brand is relatively low in carbs) or whole milk (Fairlife Milk is relatively low in carbs). This all added up to somewhere between 1900-2100 calories daily. Exercise During this whole cut I followed nsuns 531 5-day variation. Despite losing weight, I did gain some decent strength in the deadlift and squat using this program, though my bench/OHP didn't increase quite as much. My numbers went from: Squat: 340 lbs > 370 lbs Bench: 230 lbs > 240 lbs Deadlift: 385 lbs > 440 lbs OHP: 145 lbs > 155 lbs For the first 6 months (from first to second pic) I did absolutely no cardio. For the past month and a half, in hopes of losing the final 5 lbs to get to 170, I've been incorporating 3-4 days of steady state cardio for ~20 minute sessions. On off days I will also do some kind of circuit training with light weights. Conclusions Overall, I really enjoyed the keto style diet, although I acknowledge the most important factor is achieving a caloric deficit. For my eating preferences, I was able to achieve a sustainable deficit by eating fatty foods and feeling satiated, and that's enough for me. I don't believe keto is "magical" or superior to a traditional style diet, but it certainly worked well for me. If you're curious about the diet, check out /r/keto and /r/ketogains - they were great resources for me along the way. TL;DR: Keto style diet + powerlifting style training = better physique Thanks for reading! Edit: I guess it is also important that I mention in the first picture, I had been training consistently for over a year, and I had a decent strength base. My muscle gains did not all come in the last 7 months. I don't wish to be misleading. Edit 2: Apparently the nsuns link isn't working for some so here's a link to the spreadsheet. Edit 3: Alright since I'm getting a lot of questions, let me give you guys some important info regarding my abs. No, I do not train abs directly, but that does not mean that you can necessarily get abs without training them directly. Ever since I was 12 years old, I was obsessed with the idea of a 6 pack, and would do ab exercises almost every day throughout my teen years. I had a horrible physique, but was convinced getting a six pack was the answer - it wasn't. Even when I was skinny fat, I had some abs under there (this pic is about 4 years old). I don't train abs because I had already developed them as a teen, and heavy compound lifting is enough to maintain them. Going on a huge cut and losing 30 lbs is not going to give you abs if you don't already have them! submitted by /u/brodymitchell to r/Fitness [link] [comments]

Keto Snacks that are: ↑Protein, Mod Fat, ↓Net Carb
Need a little advice from the Keto Community: What kind of packaged snacks or those requiring some prep do you guys eat? I know everyone says pork rinds and cheese and stuff, but I am looking for something thats higher in protein than in fat. Meeting the goals for fat intake is no problem as it is a privilege in keto. However, I realize that protein goal is always something you should be hitting everyday, without going over, in order to keep muscle mass without losing it along with body fat. Heads up: I cant do pork, which makes things a little difficult because everyone swears by bacon wrapped something or a cheese stick wrapped in prosciutto or salami. Which Im sure is good but its not for me. Also, I already know of the Quest Bars and stuff. But looking for more natural things. submitted by /u/m_Rajon to r/keto [link] [comments]

What are your guys' go to snacks?
Been on Keto for a few months now. Almost at the 50 lbs lost mark. Pretty excited. Lately I've been getting pretty tired of my normal stuff. (pep slice or cheese sticks.) Just wondering what you guys have for that mid-day snack. submitted by /u/krivver to r/keto [link] [comments]
