Keto snacks. HELP
Been doing keto for about 8 weeks, i feel great, and weight loss has been rewarding! I typically skip breakfast some days during the week. Drinking plenty of electrolytes, and balancing everything else well. One bad habit i have not been able to kick is post work snacking. I feel fine and satisfied during the day but i tend to crush snacks when i get home in the 3-5 time slot (before dinner). These are quick, tasty and easy to grab low carb snacks. (Low carb zero sugar peanut butter, almonds, cheese) however I’m looking to add in some other snack options that could be more guilt free that are easy to grab. submitted by /u/Tall_Mountain_2271 to r/keto [link] [comments]

(36) 1 Year of hard-work and dedication. I managed to break through barriers.
How I lost 34 kilograms in just six months. I’m going to tell you about how I lost 34 kilograms in just six months. Now, I’m not saying this was easy — it took a lot of discipline, a lot of trial and error, and honestly, a few setbacks along the way. But I made it happen, and I want to share exactly how I did it. So before I tell you *how* I lost the weight, let me tell you how I ended up gaining so much in the first place. I’ve actually been doing Keto for years — and at first, it worked *really* well. I lost a lot of weight. But then I hit a plateau… and not only did I stop losing weight, I actually started gaining it back. Eventually, I fell completely off the wagon. My weight went over **130 kilograms**, and honestly, I was scared to even look at the scale. I kept getting stuck in this cycle: I’d go back on Keto, lose a bit of weight, relapse, and gain back *even more*. What I realized was — even though Keto is great for fat burning, *it’s not magic*. You still have to be in a calorie deficit. And I wasn’t. So I stripped everything back to basics. I started following the **Eddie Abbew** meal plan — two meals a day, simple and clean. My first meal was around **1 p.m.** — usually **eggs and avocado**. Then my second meal around **6 p.m.** — **a meat protein, eggs, and vegetables** like kale or broccoli. I’d finish with **full-fat Greek yogurt** and a **handful of almonds**. That’s it. No complicated recipes, no snacks, just clean eating. The second big change — I stopped *snacking*. I realized that if you’re eating proper meals, you shouldn’t need to snack. If I did feel hungry, I’d either drink **water, tea, or coffee**, or slightly increase my main meals. Before, I’d snack on nuts — almonds, peanuts — and end up eating the whole bag. Cutting that out made a *massive* difference. Just by doing those first two steps, I lost **10 kilograms**. But then my progress slowed down… That’s when I introduced **intermittent fasting** — and this was a complete *game changer*. On certain days, I’d fast for **24 hours**, eating only one meal that day. My body responded really well to it. Eventually, I started doing a **36-hour fast every Friday**, and my longest fast was **60 hours**. Once I started fasting properly, I began losing about **1 kilogram per week** consistently. started with **2–3 sessions per week**, focusing on **resistance training** — lifting weights, building muscle, and burning calories. Now, I go **4–5 times a week**, and it’s become part of my lifestyle. I’m not just working out to lose weight anymore — I do it to stay strong, healthy, and motivated. I also started **tracking my progress** properly. I weigh myself **every day** using a **smart scale**. It helps me see patterns — the small fluctuations, what’s working, what’s not — and make adjustments quickly instead of guessing. This helped me stay consistent and accountable. And finally — **patience**. That’s probably the hardest part. You’ve got to trust the process and remember — it took time and consistency to *gain* the weight, so it’s going to take time and consistency to *lose* it too. There were ups and downs, but I stayed focused on the bigger picture. submitted by /u/Ketogenic-Marlon to r/GlowUps [link] [comments]

Any keto snacks you all can recommend?
Hello so this question probably was asked 1000 times so I apologize in advance if you read this again. So this is my third time doing Keto Omad and in total through my previous two Keto Omads I have lost 25kg/55 lbs with no gym in just 2-4 months and I held that weight for a long time. I ate always the same meals in rotation, either selfmade chicken kebab meal, some sausages and eggs, avocado salad with tuna/avocado and as a snack I either ate almonds, peanuts, cheese, olives or slices of meat. Maybe third time is really the charm because I wanted to go even lower than my current weight and I started doing my same food plan again weeks ago, but this time the snacks bore me a lot. I am sick of eating almonds, olives and cheese constantly. Maybe some experts here can give recommendations on what snacks they eat or buy from the store? thank you in advance submitted by /u/zAlGore to r/keto [link] [comments]

Keto snacks
I'm currently having a very stressful time of things (I have a teen with mental health challenges, and it's a lot), and it's testing my resolve. I'm finding it very hard and just desperately am craving *something* but I can't find a keto option to scratch the itch. I actually found for ages that being on keto generally reduced my cravings (it used to be a big issue) - I don't even know what I want. Savory, but not just salted everything. I think I'm struggling because in the past I've been a big comfort eater, and now I'm just so exhausted and spread thin and I'm tired of prepping food. What are your favourite keto comfort foods? Things you keep for sometimes but really hit the spot. No bacon. I would never have thought I'd say this, but I'm so sick of bacon and all things pig. [EDIT: Thank you all! These responses are great!] submitted by /u/No-Reputation-3269 to r/keto [link] [comments]

University of Colorado Scientists Found That One Serving Of Erythritol, In Your Keto Snacks And Sugar Free Drinks Changes Brain Blood Vessel Cells In Ways That Directly Raise Stroke Risk
Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder exposed human brain blood vessel lining cells to an amount of erythritol equivalent to a single typical sugar-free drink for three hours and found the cells immediately produced far less nitric oxide, the compound that helps blood vessels relax and widen, and far more endothelin-1, the compound that causes vessels to tighten and constrict. The treated cells also showed a severely reduced ability to produce t-PA, the body’s natural clot-dissolving compound, when exposed to thrombin, a clotting trigger, and generated significantly higher levels of reactive oxygen species, or free radicals, which accelerate cellular aging, damage tissues, and fuel chronic inflammation throughout the vasculature. Senior author Christopher DeSouza, director of the Integrative Vascular Biology Lab, summarized the mechanism plainly: if your vessels are more constricted and your ability to break down blood clots is lowered, your risk of stroke goes up, and his team’s findings show not just that erythritol raises that risk but precisely how it does so at the cellular level. The findings published in the Journal of Applied Physiology build on an earlier large-scale epidemiological study of 4,000 people in the United States and Europe that found individuals with higher erythritol blood levels were substantially more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke within three years. Erythritol, approved by the FDA in 2001 and made by fermenting corn, is now used in hundreds of food products marketed as keto, low-carb, or diabetic-friendly, including protein bars, ice cream, baked goods, and sodas, where it delivers about 80 percent of the sweetness of sugar with almost no calories and minimal insulin impact. DeSouza noted that the lab experiment used only a single-serving dose, meaning people consuming multiple erythritol-containing products per day could be facing compounding vascular effects that far exceed what this study measured. The researchers acknowledge that cell-level experiments do not automatically translate to confirmed human clinical risk and that further studies in living subjects are needed before definitive dietary guidelines can be rewritten. However, both DeSouza and lead author Auburn Berry recommend that consumers begin checking ingredient labels immediately and watch specifically for erythritol or the broader category label of sugar alcohol, particularly in products they consume daily. The study is the latest in a growing body of evidence suggesting that non-nutritive sweeteners widely promoted as safe alternatives to sugar may carry their own set of serious, previously underestimated health consequences. submitted by /u/InterstellarKinetics to r/InterstellarKinetics [link] [comments]

My [39M] wife [30F] of 6 years is upset I lost weight and wants me back to before
I am NOT Original OP, OOP is u/transformerdad posting in r/relationships ——————————————— [Original | June 29th, 2016] My [39 M] wife [30 F] of 6 years is upset I lost weight and wants me back to before Throwaway. Wife follows me on Reddit... I got married to my wife 6 years ago when she got pregnant. Ideally, we would have dated for longer than 9 months, but it is what it is, and we had our son soon after. Within the few years of our marriage, life was good. I got to learn a lot more about my wife and we got along really well, much more than when we were dating. Then my dad died of a heart attack when I was 35. My dad had just turned 59. This was a reality check, and I remember I cared so much because I had my son, and if I wanted my son to have me around when he was 35, I was at least going to have to live to 71 without keeling over from a similar health issue. I went and did a physical and blood work, found that I had high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I told the doctor my workout plan and diet, and set on my way. Following r/loseit was really helpful as well as r/keto. Within a year, I was down to my normal weight, and within two years I had a six pack, something I never had when I was younger. From that point, my doctor told me my health had exponentially improved, but I was thirsty for more. I wanted to look even more aesthetically pleasing, so I got a picture of the 300 cover photo and set about building my body for that Halloween. In that time, I think my wife and I must have grown apart. My wife used to always be fit when we dated, but after having our son, she must have been busy to go exercise. I invited her with me to workout (I saved up money and built a separate 2 car garage behind the house to build a home gym), but she would say she was tired or "happy the way she was". I would go for jogs with my son in the stroller, and whenever she joined us, she would insist we walk. I asked her to try jogging, and she would snap back asking if I don't find her attractive. Of course, I love my wife. I love her as the mother of my child, I love her as the daughter-in-law she is when helping my mother, and most of all I love her as my wife and how she is forever my companion. This became even more apparent with time. While I would be cooking chicken breast and broccoli for the week, she would say that I should start eating lasagna and fried chicken that I used to eat before. I told her that I didn't want to go back to being overweight/obese (my bmi used to be 32 and the doctor said that was classified as obese, now my bmi was 25, borderline overweight, but I am at 10% body fat) so I was careful with my food, and she got so upset. She asked if I thought she was fat, and I calmly told my wife to go ask the doctor because I thought she looked good, but I was biased. After her appointment the next week, she came back home crying. She said her doctor said she was overweight and should consider a diet plan and working out. I thought I would see changes in my wife's behavior, but nothing happened. Now, summer has come around, and my son is a bubbling ball of excitement and always wants to go to the pool. I take him to the community pool to play with other kids that live in our neighborhood, and my wife joins us sometimes. Last weekend, the neighborhood had a pool party, and everyone and their kids were there. My wife came, and my son and I were having fun, playing in the water and socializing with the people who came there. When we got home, after my son took a nap, my wife walked me into our bedroom, and started questioning me. She asked me if I was sleeping with X woman who was there, Y woman who was talking to me, or Z women whose kid I was helping dry off and talking too. I said I didn't know what she was talking about, and then she pulled out her phone to show me pictures she had taken from her seat. They were pictures of me smiling and talking to these women. I sat my wife down and told here I would never cheat. I have a son that she provided me, and a wife that I loved and cared so much about. She wouldn't accept that answer though. She said that I must be attracted to those women because they can look good wearing bikinis while she is heavier than them (her words, not mine). Then she changed the focus to me. She said I was getting all this attention because I was now fit compared to before, and it would cause me to waiver in my fidelity now that other women were attracted to me. My wife told me that she wants me back to my old self, when she didn't have to worry about other women and we could be comfortable together. She said she feels this undue pressure to become fit herself, and feels like its too stressful to maintain that lifestyle. Can someone please tell me what to do? I am not going to lie to my wife, but if I am being honest, I think she would be much more attractive if she tried to get back in shape. Even just trying. I don't know how I can tell her this without hurting her feelings or making her feel more insecure; can someone tell me how to approach that? tl;dr: Now that I have lost weight and look fit, other women are flirting with me and my wife is starting to get jealous. She thinks that I will cheat on her in the future, and she wants me to get back to my old self. Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: Your wife probably needs some therapy. This isn't about you, it's about her. She has low/no self esteem and is insecure. Why don't you offer to cook all the meals for 5 days, some good healthy food and if she enjoys it you can say "See, now that wasn't so bad." Once she starts getting good food to fuel her body, she may have more energy to feel like starting to work out with you. OOP: She goes to a therapist once a month... she doesn't talk about it with me, but I saw a bill one time, and connected the dots. I cook only healthy meals for dinner and breakfast, and offered to make lunch for her as well, but she said she likes to buy out. I know she also has a snacking habit where she will go through chips and cookies while working... I feel like I've tried all that I know so far. Commenter 2: That's fucking disgusting for her to ask that of you. Tell her that what she's doing is unreasonable and you've given her no reason to actually believe you're cheating. Being overweight is what it is, and you are so incredibly strong-willed and I, random internet stranger, am very proud of you for improving your lifestyle. Don't let your wife throw all of that away for you. OOP: Thank you kind internet stranger :) The only other person who has said they are proud of me is my mom and my son. I showed him a picture from before and he said "Wow daddy, you used to be so fat, but now you are like Superman!" At the same time, I understand where my wife is coming from. Back when we were dating, I was wondering what a beautiful girl like her was dating a guy like me. 6 years later, I guess the tables have turned. I think I just need to watch my interactions with other women and make sure my wife does not get the wrong idea. ——————————————— [Update | June 30th, 2016 | 1 Day Later] Update: My [39 M] wife [30 F] of 6 years is upset I lost weight and wants me back to before Thank you everyone for your posts and advice. I really appreciate it! I made a few realizations about myself and my relationship to my wife. I wasn't easing my wife into getting into a healthy lifestyle and had completely forgot that when I started out, I took it very slow. It took me 4 years to get to where I am now, and my wife was trying to keep up with my current lifestyle, which can definitely be overwhelming. I was trying to look for the perfect opportunity to talk about this with my wife, and to ease the mood a little, I went and bought her favorite bottle of wine and a bouquet. I went to talk to her in our bedroom after our son had gone to sleep, and she had these old photo albums. Apparently she had stopped by her parents place after work to help them with some summer cleaning, and she wanted to keep the photo album to go through their memories. I gave her the flowers and opened the wine and we looked through the pictures while we were cuddling. We were leafing through the pictures, and then I saw one of a strikingly handsome man in a football uniform holding a girl that looked exactly like my wife when she was 24 kissing him. My wife was so interested in the picture, and she started tearing up a bit. I asked her what was wrong, and she pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of her parents now. They're in their 60's, and still in love, but they have lost their shape that they had in their youth. Her dad had a really large beer gut, and her mom was overweight, but they were happy. She was saying that when we got married, she was hoping we would be like them. They never worried about losing faith in one another because their attractiveness faded as they grew older, but their love for one another continued to grow. She talked about her old boyfriend, who became so popular in college, and girls threw themselves at him, that he ended up straying; she was worried the same would happen to me because women in the neighborhood started to talk and say they wish their husbands worked on their bodies like I did. She was starting to feel really insecure. Then I took that opportunity. I gave her a kiss, and then told her that she loved me when I was fat, and women like them never noticed me. She still loves me, but those women just lust. Sure, my eyes might dart, it is physically natural, but I loved her so much, valued our relationship so much, and only needed her in my bed, I couldn't even imagine laying with another woman besides her. She started crying tears of joy, and I didn't stop there. I pushed on wards. I grabbed the picture of her parents from college, the picture she had of her parents now, and a picture of when we started dating on my phone. I told her what her parents did, lose track of their health but still grow old and love each other is one way to live life. They got the chance to see their grand kids, but I know the health problems her parents have. Then I brought up my dad, and how he wasn't able to spend much time with his grandson, and how I want to have the opportunity to see my future grandkids and maybe even great-grandkids. I said I wanted her to be by my side. I took a picture of us now, and had the picture of her parents, and said, "Why can't this be us when we're in our 40's, 50's, 60's, till we die?" I told her I loved her, but because I loved her so much, I wanted her to become healthy. She doesn't need to get to her pre-baby weight, or anything drastic. I told her my story of how I just wanted to get fit, but then that developed into a desire to look good, too. She admitted that she also wanted to get back her health, and at the same time she was hoping to stick to her new years resolution to lose 20 lbs. We talked, set up a plan, so she is cutting the snacks down to two cookies a day and logging everything she eats, and portion control. That was when she brought up her monthly appointment with her psychiatrist. Apparently she had been going to talk about how she could get over her overeating habits. I felt so bad. I had neglected my wife when I was trying to become healthy, when I could have included her in my journey and it would have been so much easier to do together. We set up an exercise schedule every day, and she was joking how we should have sex every day to make sure we got our cardio in. I took the in, and we had sex the rest of the night. I haven't been as intimate with my wife like I was last night since our honeymoon. I hope to keep the momentum going tonight since we both took vacation for the long weekend ;) I took the advice of being more intimate with my wife even outside the bedroom, and was kissing her and playing around with her while we were making breakfast today, when I hear a voice shout from upstairs "DADDY! YOU SAID WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TOUCH GIRLS LIKE THAT!" Ended up having the "When a man and a woman are married, and love each other so much, it is ok to do that, because that is what leads to a baby" conversation today. I can still see the shock in his eyes... but it had to happen so I can feel more comfortable kissing my wife and squeezing her butt in front of my son. I am so glad my wife does not have depression and that we were able to work together to put a plan to get back her health. She was showing me pictures of power couples, saying in a year or two she wants to take a picture like that together, so I am so glad she has that goal in mind. I also feel ashamed. When I was starting, it was to become healthy, but I liked the physical changes I saw in my body. Then for my model, I picked Leonidas from 300. But my wife, who has restarted on her fitness journey, printed out this picture of a husband and wife who are both fit. It just goes to show who loves who more, and I definitely need to work on that. Anyways, thank you so much for the support reddit. I really appreciate the help, and look forward to helping my wife with her journey, so that together we can live a long and wonderful life seeing our son grow older and his future kids. tl;dr: Got some wine, saw some pictures of healthy/fit couples, decided we can do it together. Starting a plan slow with moderate diet changes, 3x exercise a week, and lots more sex for cardio. Scarred my son for life because he knows that maybe girls don't have koodies because his role model is grabbing his mom's butt in front of him. Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: Well, dang, that's a happy ending, and it's good to see that you all worked this out to a conclusion where you both will be happy and secure in your relationship. Side note: one day, show your son the picture about romantic love where it says "I will buy you tacos and touch your butt." I have no doubt hilarity will ensue. Commenter 2: Haha, your poor son is going to think that touching butts is what leads to babies. I mean, I'm sure you probably actually explained it in an age appropriate way that made sense to him, but the way you said it in the post was.... amusing OOP: To put it short and sweet, I said "If you are married, and a husband and wife love each other very much, they can be blessed to have a baby." He thinks each time I say blessed it means that God happened. So I thought it sufficed for now. God happened. ——————————————— THIS IS A REPOST SUB—I AM NOT OOP. Almost every cereal in our grocery store is owned by 3 American corporations. I found 6 Canadian-owned alternatives.
Out entire cereal aisle is American-owned. I looked for Canadian alternatives and found exactly 6. Kellogg's is American. General Mills is American. Post is American. Between those three companies, they own nearly every box of cereal on Canadian shelves. Cheerios, Corn Flakes, Frosted Flakes, Lucky Charms, Raisin Bran, Shreddies, all American-owned. So what's actually Canadian? Not much: Nature's Path (Vancouver, BC) - Family-owned since 1985, biggest organic cereal brand in North America. EnviroKidz, Heritage Flakes, Love Crunch. This is the go-to. One Degree Organics (BC) - Sprouted grain cereals. QR codes on every box let you trace ingredients back to the farm. Farm Girl (Ontario) - Keto and grain-free cereals. Small Canadian brand doing things differently. Holy Crap Cereal (BC) - Superfood cereals. Got their start on Dragons' Den. Arva Flour Mills (Arva, ON) - Operating since 1819. One of the oldest continuously running mills in North America. Prana (Montreal, QC) - Organic granola and snacks. The cereal category is genuinely one of the hardest to buy Canadian in. If anyone knows brands I missed, drop them below. Curious what this community is eating for breakfast. submitted by /u/KaleRepresentative98 to r/BuyCanadian [link] [comments]

What are your thoughts on keto snacks, bread, ice cream etc. do you avoid them?
New to keto, it feels temping to go for a lot of that replacement stuff with too good macros but I don’t know if being clean would be better for health. I’ve always had artificial sweeteners no problem but stuff like seed oils I’m not really sure what to believe, to you need to intentionally avoid them? submitted by /u/deep_fried_cheese to r/keto [link] [comments]

Is there any good crunchy snack for keto
I've been eating low carb since January 1st, and the thing I miss the most is my crunch salty snacks, mainly tortilla chips and popcorn. Are there any good substitutions that are affordable. Also no pork, (my body doesn't process it well) submitted by /u/Psalm118-24 to r/keto [link] [comments]

What are your favorite Keto Snacks?
I need some good keto-friendly snacks—things to munch on or quick recipes that actually hit the spot. I like cold cuts with cheese, but after a while, that gets old. What’s a life-saving, filling snack that you either prep or buy? If it’s store-bought, where do you get it? Looking for something that keeps me from reaching for the wrong stuff when hunger hits. Would love to hear some people go-tos. submitted by /u/Robot-Mikey to r/keto [link] [comments]

AITAH for Telling My Sister’s Boyfriend to "Get Out" After He Refused to Eat the Meal I Cooked?
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is u/Pixies_Love_Petals. She posted in r/AITAH. Thanks to u/BakingGiraffeBakes for the rec! Do NOT comment on Original Posts. Latest update is 7 days old. Mood Spoiler: things are looking up Original Post: September 15, 2024 So, here’s what happened: I (28F) invited my sister (25F) and her boyfriend (26M) over for dinner. I love cooking and had spent hours preparing this fancy meal: homemade pasta, a slow-cooked ragu, a salad, and a tiramisu for dessert. I was really proud of it and excited to have them over. When they arrived, everything was fine at first. We sat down, and I started serving the food. Her boyfriend (let’s call him Steve) stared at the pasta for a moment, then looked at me and said, "I don’t eat carbs." At first, I thought he was joking, but nope—he was dead serious. He goes on about how he’s "super into keto" and "carbs are the enemy." Okay, fine, that’s his choice. But when I offered to make him a salad or something else on the spot, he refused and said that I should have known about his diet beforehand. This is where it gets weird. He then pulls out a small Tupperware container from his bag (!!!), filled with what looked like boiled chicken and broccoli, and starts to eat it at my dinner table while the rest of us are trying to enjoy the meal I spent hours making. I was stunned and, honestly, kind of insulted. I told him it was rude to bring his own food without mentioning it to me beforehand, and he should have at least given me a heads-up. He then goes off about how people need to "respect his dietary choices" and that I was being "controlling" by not accommodating his needs. At this point, I’d had enough. I told him, "If you can’t eat what’s served and won’t even let me make something else, then maybe you should just get out." He stood up, said something like "I’m just trying to be healthy," grabbed his Tupperware, and walked out. My sister stayed for a bit but eventually left too, saying I overreacted. Now my sister’s mad at me, saying I embarrassed her boyfriend and made them both feel unwelcome. My mom thinks I should apologize, but my friends are on my side, saying Steve was being incredibly rude. AITAH for telling him to get out? OOP's Comment/Top Comment: Commenter: Your sister didn't give you a heads up about his diet? OOP: Honestly, no, she didn’t. I’m not sure if she even knew how serious he was about the whole keto thing because she never mentioned it. She eats pretty much anything, so I assumed he was the same. But even if she had, I feel like it still would’ve been polite for him to at least say something beforehand instead of just showing up with his own meal. I would’ve happily made something keto-friendly if I had known! There is no consensus bot on AITAH, but top comments were NTA Update Post: September 21, 2024 (6 days later) Well, y’all, buckle up because things have escalated in a way I never expected. After my initial post, I figured things would calm down once my sister had time to cool off. Spoiler alert: they did not. So, the day after I told Steve to leave, my sister texts me saying they want to "talk things through" at a family dinner. I assumed it would be just the three of us, maybe at a neutral restaurant, where we could hash it out like adults. Nope. Instead, my sister invites my parents, my brother, and Steve’s parents to this "dinner" at my parents' house, turning it into some kind of weird intervention. I show up thinking it’ll just be a casual conversation, but the moment I walk in, Steve’s mom (let’s call her Carol) is already going off about how "Steve has always had special dietary needs" and how “people who care about him should respect his boundaries.” The woman acts like the guy has a life-threatening allergy, not a trendy diet. My mom is sitting there looking super uncomfortable, while my dad’s just quietly sipping his beer, clearly wishing he were anywhere else. So, Carol starts listing off Steve’s dietary restrictions, and she’s acting like I personally offended the whole keto community by serving pasta. Then—brace yourselves—Carol pulls out a folder. Yes, a literal folder, with printouts. She hands one to me, one to my mom, and one to my dad. I’m flipping through this thing, and it’s full of Steve’s "dietary guidelines," suggested meal plans, and even a list of keto-friendly restaurants we could go to "in the future." At this point, I’m doing everything I can not to laugh, but it gets worse. Steve pipes up and says he’s willing to forgive me for "disrespecting his lifestyle" if I agree to host a redo dinner where I follow his dietary restrictions to the letter. He says this will prove I’m “serious” about making amends and respecting his needs going forward. I thought he was joking, but no—he was dead serious. He even pulled out his phone to show me some keto recipe apps that I "might find helpful." I was in total shock. My sister, by the way, said absolutely nothing during all of this, just staring at her plate like she wanted to disappear. My mom, bless her, tries to smooth things over by suggesting we all just eat whatever we want when we’re together, but Carol snaps, “It’s not that simple!” She says that in their family, they "all follow keto together," and that’s why Steve is so "passionate" about it. At this point, I’ve had enough. I stood up and said, “Look, I’m not redoing the dinner. I’m not making anyone a special keto feast. If Steve can’t eat what I cook, that’s fine, but bringing his own meal to my dinner without even telling me was disrespectful, and I’m not apologizing for feeling that way.” And then—this is where it gets absolutely bonkers—Steve’s dad stands up, points at me, and says, “This is exactly why Steve doesn’t trust women to understand him. They always make it about themselves.” The whole room went silent. My dad finally spoke up, saying, “I think it’s time for you all to leave,” and started walking toward the door, basically escorting Steve’s parents out. Steve and my sister stayed behind, but Steve was furious. He started yelling about how “family should support each other,” and then accused me of trying to sabotage their relationship because I’m “jealous” of what they have. At that point, I just walked out and left the whole mess behind. Here’s the kicker, though: a couple of days later, my sister called me and told me she and Steve were taking a “break” because she “needed time to think.” Apparently, this whole keto fiasco was the last straw in a long list of controlling behavior from Steve. She didn’t realize just how bad it was until the whole family saw it play out at dinner. She even told me that Steve had been trying to get her to follow his diet for months, but she was hiding snacks in her car just to get a break from all the keto madness! So now, Steve’s gone full radio silent, my sister is staying with me for the time being, and I’m still getting passive-aggressive texts from Carol about “how hurt Steve is” and how “he’s just misunderstood.” Honestly, I’m just glad my sister is finally seeing how controlling this guy was. TL;DR: Steve’s keto obsession led to a full-blown family intervention where his mom handed out dietary guidelines, and now my sister is taking a break from him because she realized how controlling he is. submitted by /u/LucyAriaRose to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

Partner is not on keto but steals all my keto snacks 😩 UPDATE!
so following my original post which is here… https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/comments/134yc61/partner_is_not_on_keto_but_steals_all_my_keto/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1 ETA - I have lada diabetes - I just realised this wasn’t in the main info, but it is relevant. I get quite bad lows which mean that sometimes I need snacks. we had a talk and things got a bit better for a few days. Which was great. However … the the other night I got out of the shower and he had opened a packet of my nuts, which was unopened, because “I just wanted a few handfuls”. I went … a bit mental. A bit too much to be honest. I pulled out ALL the food from the fridge, pantry and snack drawer and laid them out into two piles. Things he (and the kids) can eat on one and things I can eat on the other. The “my” pile was about 10 things, there one had over 100. I laid out how frustrated I was by this, and how him taking the ONLY THING I can eat annoyed me. I told him im making a “me only” drawer and he agreed to this, apologised and assured me this would never happen again. He was initially defensive but confronted with the visuals he couldn’t deny it. He has hundreds of options for snacks and I have ONE. He’s not on low carb and eats junk all the time. I also brought up him ( and my eldest 2 kids ) bugging me about not eating enough, which has been a thing. I couldn’t eat breakfast with them that day because my bf made it and it was very high carb (pancakes) same with lunch (grilled cheese) so i just skipped. I pointed out that they are not supporting me, which is okay, but also if they eat one of the only snacks I can eat (when they have dozens of choices) then they are actively sabotaging me. This upset them. It actually led to a bigger conversation in which my partner told me he was really unhappy with his appearance. He told me he’s aware that he gained wait, and seemed shocked a bit when I agree with him. I told him I’m happy to support him on low carb, but only if he commits to it fully, and he still doesn’t get my snacks. I feel a lot better after all your advice. He’s a good guy and I love him, so no splitting up. Just an idiot sometimes 😆 submitted by /u/Yer_maw_is_a_plum to r/keto [link] [comments]

Partner is not on keto … but steals all my keto snacks 😩
This basically. He’s always stealing my nuts and cheese strings and keto friendly snacks but then stuffs his face with shit I can’t eat at dinner like pasta and bread. I end up with no snacks and mildly irritated by it. I’m not a big snacker and like to have stuff to have when I want it - not every night (maybe once a week or so) and when I go to get it it’s gone. He’s also kind of gaining weight with it (which I would never mention) because obviously eating high carb but also high fat will do that. WDID? I’ve tried to encourage him to go keto with me but his willpower is quite easily broken and then he ends up snacking on stuff like crisps. I cook for us and our kids and will usually just have the protein they have and a salad or veg, so I can make what I have for him but he wants the carbs. He’s t2 so should be eating less of them. Am I the jerk here? submitted by /u/Yer_maw_is_a_plum to r/keto [link] [comments]

A warning about "keto-friendly" junk food and snack habits
Hello fellow ketoers!! I hope you are having a fantastic day. As the keto diet catches on in the mainstream and enjoys well-warranted increasing support from the medical community, food manufacturers are beginning to capitalize on the growing popularity of our way of eating (WOE). I'm sure you've noticed the increased number of advertisements for "keto-friendly" chips, candy, and other kinds of junk food. On the one hand, this is a great development, because it's nice to have quick and easy ways to diversify the kinds of things we can eat on the keto diet, and to enjoy some of the tastes (or close to them) of carb-based things we used to eat before we embraced this WOE. On the other hand, many of us who live a keto lifestyle do so now because we did not have healthy eating habits before keto, and needed to make a change (I know that I'm part of that group!). So here is the warning: If you struggled to control your eating habits before you started keto, please be mindful of your relationship with the new "keto-friendly" junk foods. Why? Because consuming more calories than you burn will still cause you to gain weight, even if the calories you consume were made with almond flour and sugar substitutes. If you struggle to control yourself around snack foods - like I do - filling your pantry with keto-friendly snack foods may not be a great idea if your goal is to lose weight. The reasons why we lose weight on the keto diet are multiple: 1. Water - Carbohydrates increase water retention. (This is why we lose weight so quickly at the start of the diet - reducing carbs = eliminating a lot of water we had stored in our bodies). 2. Appetite - The fatty & protein-rich foods we now eat cause us to feel satiated (full) on fewer calories than we did when we included bread, potatoes and other starchy, high-carb foods. As a result, we eat fewer calories than we did before keto, resulting in a lower body weight. 3. Insulin - I'm not an expert on insulin and am not qualified to explain to you at all why insulin matters... but insulin matters. In response to a number of the comments below, I've edited this post to include insulin as a concept, and encourage all of you to read this article by Dr. Jason Fung, author of The Obesity Code if you want to understand the impact of insulin and insulin resistance in our bodies, and why a low-carb, high fat diet and intermittent fasting (IF) are intelligent approaches to managing our health. 4. Mindfulness Maintaining a strict (or lazy) carbohydrate limit requires us to think and be mindful when choosing our foods and living our lives. When offered food, we no longer simply think "oh boy!", our first thought is now "should I eat this?". In addition, the early success of the keto diet has inspired many ketoers (including myself) to consider other aspects of our lifestyles and make healthier decisions about exercise and activities. So - when I see a targeted ad telling me that I can have ten new flavors of keto-friendly chips, or that I can eat candy bars with single-digit net carbs, or stuff my face with any number of delicious non-meal treats... I know that for me, there is a very real danger that I will find myself on the couch in front of the television with far too many of these snacks within grasping range. If this rings true to you - if you know that deep inside you is a tiny, spiteful little snack demon that is mega-hangry after being neglected by you and your selfish insistence upon adopting a healthy lifestyle, and is just dying to dive into a bottomless barrel of snacks and go buck wild, then here is my advice to you: 1. Dance With The Girl That Brung Ya - you have discovered a healthy way of eating, and have committed to being a healthier person. Whether you have just started, or are a multi-year veteran that hit your goals ages ago, you know that what you've been doing has been working. Do not let some corporate marketing exec ruin it by targeting your weakness. 2. Track Your Calories - MyFitnessPal is a great app for counting calories in and out, although there are plenty of others that are also great. You can also easily make a spreadsheet, or download one of countless pre-made sheets to track calories. There is a ton of great info in the Keto For Beginners link on the sidebar. Counting your calories will help you quickly recognize the situation if you end up eating more of these snacks than you should. If you find yourself staring at your spreadsheet trying to remember how many of the snacks you ate, then you ate too many, and these snacks are not for you. 3. Give Yourself a Snack Window - If you absolutely must try every "keto-friendly" junk food that hits the market, do yourself a favor and give yourself a one-hour window, once a week. From 6-7pm on Sunday (for example), you can enjoy all the low-carb candy, popcorn, chips, cakes, doughnuts, etc that you can eat. Spend the rest of the week getting excited about your next window. Try not to buy the food until the day of your window, so that you don't have to resist the temptation to jump the gun and dive in outside of your window. If you find yourself breaking your window and wondering why you thought it was a good idea, then these snacks are not for you. TL/DR: There are a lot of new "keto-friendly" snack foods on the market. If you have a history of chronic binge-eating, it is probably not a smart idea to start binge-eating these snacks, either if you are trying to lose weight. Calories matter. Be mindful. Edits - Clarity & corrections, plus I've added a link to an article on insulin and insulin resistance - topics I'm not well-versed on personally. submitted by /u/ChaoticFather to r/keto [link] [comments]
