New Kindle Paperwhite (12th Gen): Jailbreak Advice Before First Boot ?
Hello! I’ve just ordered my first Kindle, a 12th-gen Paperwhite. I’d like to know if, when I unbox it, I should avoid connecting it to the internet in order to preserve the possibility of jailbreaking it. Also, what type of jailbreak would be the most useful, and what are the main advantages? I plan to sideload my books via PC about 99% of the time. submitted by /u/Maanu1141 to r/kindlejailbreak [link] [comments]

I drained 30% battery on Kindle Paperwhite 12 just for two days, is it ok?
I bought yesterday Kindle Paperwhite Signature 12, and I was baffled when I noticed how fast battery drained. When I unpacked it, I had 45%. Now only 16%. Here are things I've done since unboxing: I connected all accounts in it and upgraded OS to the latest update. Downloaded some books and dictionaries. Played with all settings and apps I found on Kindle as Browser, Store, Goodreeds. In total, I read some books for two-three hours (I used quite a lot dictionary, and online translate features). After all these things, my battery dropped on almost 30%. In my opinion, this's so much. On official docs says that it lasts 12 weeks, but I have feeling that my battery will last only two three weeks maximum with a full charge. My current version of OS is 5.18.3. How long your battery lasts and what usually you do? Is it expected that this device will drain the battery so fast when you use Wi-Fi? I have a feeling that my device is broken. submitted by /u/gvard1 to r/kindle [link] [comments]

Cried a little after getting my first e-reader 😂
About a week ago I posted asking if the PPW5 is still worth buying in 2025. I even considered Kobo Clara BW since they have the same specs and features(except for the weight). After days of contemplating I decided to go with Kobo. I was so excited but I wasn’t like “all in” with the decision bc in the back of my head I can hear myself say “but I want the bigger and flushed screen ☹️” Because of that feeling I ended up making mock ups of the Kobo and Kindle PPW5 to see which size would I like the most and which one for me is more comfortable to read in but it didn’t help my indecisiveness at all, lol. Though it was 70/30, 70’s Kindle. Then I stumbled upon an online shop who sells refurbished Kindles(as well as brand new). I inquired and the shop owner was like “we actually have brand new Kindles that just came in less than an hour ago from the prime day sale.” I asked for the prices and I was 🤯 I think you can easily guess which one I chose to get. I got the Paperwhite 😊 6!! Not 5!! For only $130! Not sure if that’s a good deal to others but to me it is!! The Kobo that I was planning to buy retails for about $20 more of what I paid for the Kindle (Not even sure if that’s right, I’m shit at math. I got the Kindle 2 hours later and I’m telling you I was shakinggg while unboxing the damn thing. The kindle was perfect 😭😭😭 The size, the sturdiness and the premium feel of the device in my hands. As a first time e-reader owner, I was so blown away with the screen quality bc it does look like paper! It was also surprisingly fast(for an e-reader) bc I’ve watched dozens of videos on Youtube and some of them aren’t as fast as my unit. Maybe it has something to do with the storage use? Idk. Anyway, I am so sooo happy that I made this decision. It just feels so right(emotionally, physically and financially 😂) Also this is the first device that I bought with my own money. All of my other gadgets are either gifts or hand-me-downs. That’s why I’m ecstatic about this 🥹 One question though, I only had this for 2 days and the battery drains faster than I anticipated. I charged it for the first time a few hours ago. And just now it went from 100% to 98% in less than 5 minutes. Am I just overreacting or is that normal? P.S. I included the mock ups, just because 🥴🤷🏻♀️😂 submitted by /u/gottameowmeow to r/ereader [link] [comments]

Did I Get a Used Kindle? Paperwhite Signature Edition Shows Someone Else’s Name on Setup
Hi everyone, I just bought a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (12th Gen) today from a third-party seller, and I'm a bit worried it might not be brand new. When I first tried to set it up, it didn’t ask me to register with my Amazon account right away. Instead, it showed a screen with someone else's name on it-“Alvin” (screenshot attached). I never signed in, so this was odd. Also, I noticed that the back of the box had two stickers instead of one. In most unboxing videos and photos I’ve seen online, there’s usually just a single sticker. This is my first Kindle, so I’d really appreciate any advice from experienced users. Is this normal? Or does it sound like I received a used or returned device? Thanks in advance! https://preview.redd.it/eiwxilbhgl9f1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6985f3388a0703621ed6e899d6be46a697ee7e8 https://preview.redd.it/bbn4ombhgl9f1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5753d57227dbedc8f9d0f76ed1eaae731de1e5a7 https://preview.redd.it/jlnaqkbhgl9f1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bf7c35bdb11184e08071db9d068607541da940f submitted by /u/Serenemoon94 to r/kindle [link] [comments]

Unboxed my first Kobo after 15+ years of kindle use!
My initial thoughts and actions: I’ve been using kindles since high school and my mom even had the very first kindle with that keyboard! I am exclusively an ereader, I actually hate lugging physical books around! A few months ago I was looking at the kindle scribe and wishing for something I could write on (I’ve been reading on an 11th gen kindle paperwhite) but I refused to give Amazon any more of my money. That’s when I discovered Kobo! (I’m embarrassed I’d never heard of the brand before). I loved how overdrive was integrated in the device because my New Year’s resolution this year was to not purchase any books and only utilize the library/libby. I also loved the idea of the buttons. There had been many times I’d considered the kindle oasis simply for the buttons but I NEED a waterproof device (reading on a pool floaty is non negotiable for me in the summer). It’s such a silly thing but I hated that I couldn’t chill with a coffee in my right hand and my kindle in the left because I needed to tap the screen with my right finger. The very first thing I did when unboxing my KLC was place a screen protector on. I’ve never felt the need for screen protectors on previous ereaders but I knew I wanted to get good use out of the stylus. I used the Bellemond paper screen protector and it went on great and looks great. I can update on how it feels with usage in a couple weeks if y’all want! After initial reviews about clarity with the KLC I was nervous but I think it looks really nice! It’s like I saw someone else say, it gives paperback vibes. I think the text is plenty sharp and easy on the eyes. I have cute skins coming in the mail but I did immediately place it in a clear backed open to wake case which is something I have always used and loved for protecting my ereaders. Anyways, so happy to join the club! Happy reading! I’m starting The Resurrectionist today! submitted by /u/Certifiedpoocleaner to r/kobo [link] [comments]

Is it possible to use the new Kindle Paperwhite without ever connecting it to the internet?
I'm still very much on the fence when it comes to upgrading my Kindle to the newest Paperwhite. I've been a Paperwhite 3 user for over 4 years and I've never connected it to the internet, because I simply never needed that functionality and it saved me from ads while preserving battery life. Is it possible to do the same thing with the new Paperwhite? I've seen one unboxing video, where there is no longer a "finish the setup later" option and I'm kind of worried about that. submitted by /u/Radekrad to r/kindle [link] [comments]

Kindle Paperwhite not working as I would expect. Is this just how it is or do I have a defective product?
I just bought a Kindle Paperwhite and it is driving me crazy. I can't tell if it's just a defective item or if that's just how Kindles are. Hoping to get a second opinion and some advice. The challenges I'm having seem like they should be so simple to fix, but I just can't figure it out. Please help! The Kindle is sooooo slow. I watched videos of Kindle Paperwhite unboxing and I think it's generally similar in how slow it is, but sometimes I'll click a button and it won't do anything and I'll have to click it 2 or 3 times. And of course being impatient, I then end up clicking it too many times and have to go back. To flip back a page, you have to click on the left of the screen. I would have thought that you can click anywhere on the left half of the screen, but I seem to have to click on the left margin of the page. I keep clicking too far right (which is everywhere on the screen) and then getting confused because the Kindle flipped ahead. Is that how it's supposed to work? Can I redefine the area? Do I just have to get used to it? Trying to scroll through my library. How am I supposed to do this? I am assuming I just scroll with my finger like you would on a phone / tablet, but when I do it goes all the way to the end of the library. Annoying when I want to go to page 2 All in all it just feels glitchy. Things are so slow and the screen flashes as you navigate between things. It's driving me nuts, but I have a suspicion that that's just how Kindles are... Edit: Sounds like that's just how it is. Thanks for confirming. I'm disappointed but reassured 😂 submitted by /u/ultire to r/kindle [link] [comments]

New Kindle Paperwhite is quite slow
I just got a new kindle paperwhite and when I compare it to youtube unboxings, even the start up is slower. Is there something wrong with my kindle? I have just opened the kindle, not saved any books on it. submitted by /u/BerberisDarwinii to r/kindle [link] [comments]

Got my first kindle (Paperwhite 10th generation) today. Now I have a few questions.
Hello everyone! Today I received my kindle paperwhite that I ordered a few days ago (Not from Amazon thou). It's the international edition. First of all, I unboxed it and turned it on, however now it seems like I've made a mistake and I should have charged it 100% before turning it on for the first time. How big of a mistake is that? Secondly, I've somewhat grown suspicious about it being a "brand new" product. When I turned it on it had a battery percentage of 43% and there was 46 dictionaries of various languages added to my library, however, only the two English Oxford ones were downloaded. Is it natural? Or does it really mean that it is a used, second hand Kindle? There are various serial codes both on the kindle its self and on its box. I searched a lot but I didn't find a page in the Amazon support for redeeming product codes. Is there a way to enter the product code and get all the data associated with it?(when the product was sold, what's its version, where it was shipped to , ect.) Thanks for your answers. submitted by /u/EM_Productions to r/kindle [link] [comments]

Paperwhite Unboxing Pictures, Questions
It's not much but I've uploaded some pics from the unboxing here. It's the 32GB Manga version from Japan with an Amazon Kindle cover. My initial thoughts: I was surprised at how light and small it was. But, I find that the small size was actually a huge bonus. It makes the device very easy and comfortable to use. I've read about twenty percent into Game of Thrones Book One and I found that the dictionary and X-ray features are extremely useful. The lighting does not hurt my eyes at all. The screen looks nearly identical to a page in a book. I'll definitely be using this for the foreseeable future. Living in Japan, it's ridiculously difficult to find books that I want. This device is so wonderful for what I need. Questions: Is there a way to set the time at the top left of the page like on the Android app? What is the most convenient way to move to a previous page and then flip back? For example, looking at a map at the beginning of the book and then switching back to current page. Is there a way to zoom in on book pages (maps, pictures, etc.)? Thank you! submitted by /u/KazeIU to r/kindle [link] [comments]
