I need help deciding which one to keep. I've had my Kindle Paperwhite since 2023 and only got the Kobo Libra Colour last December. I originally bought the Kobo for color manhwa and the idea of annotating, but...! haven't even really used the color feature. I mostly read novels. Mainly bought this out of curiosity as a lot of people said the Kobo IU is a lot more superior. Here's where I'm torn: • I miss my Kindle. The screen is so crisp and clean, easier on my eyes. • The Kobo's grain does, in fact, bother me (like... it really does) contrary to what people say. • The warm/cool light range on the Kobo doesn't feel enough for me. • I’m just a sentimental person lol. I couldn’t let my first ever Kindle go. BUT: • I love the Libra's side grip + physical buttons. SO much easier when reading because I don’t have a PopSocket on it unlike my Kindle. • It's super easy to adjust brightness and settings. • I like the idea of color and annotating... but I don't think I can justify buying the pen. • AND I already purchased two official Kobo cases (don’t judge, did it out of excitement considering I was expecting to replace my Kindle entirely.) So now I'm stuck between: Kindle = simplicity + crisp screen + what I'm used to Kobo = features + buttons + potential I'm not really using and I possibly will not use ever For those who've tried both, which would you keep and why? Especially if you mainly read novels. And no I CAN’T keep both 😅 I don’t see a reason why I should have more than one main ereader (especially since I have the xteink x4 lol). The basic is on sale right now. Long story short I got lots of books for Christmas and am realizing how much space these things are taking up and considering jumping to a kindle. I want as close to a “book” experience as possible and don’t want to feel like I’m reading a tablet. I don’t read in the bath and may read by a pool maybe one week out of the year. I never read in the dark (will always have a lamp nearby to read). Looking for recommendations on what to buy so I don’t have buyers regret. I recently traded my Paperwhite (bought in 2023) for the new 6” basic Kindle, and after a few days of use, my reading time has increased noticeably. The main motivation was portability, I wanted something I could carry effortlessly, with the hope that it would naturally lead to more frequent reading. That’s exactly what happened. Being able to slip the 6” Kindle into my pocket and take it everywhere has been a game changer. Yesterday, for instance, I found myself stuck in a long, unavoidable queue and ended up reading instead of mindlessly scrolling. Funny enough I take my Kindle to toilet 🚽 now instead of my phone. The only real compromise was losing the warm light, which hasn’t bothered me as much as I expected. Overall, the trade-off feels well worth it. P.S. I understand there are 'normies' who are going to get them because its the most prominent brand out there. I'm more concerned about the power users though; those who use tools like Calibre and KOReader. Why are they still Stanning for Kindle? If your aim is to sideload books or to get away from oppressive DRM practices why buy a Kindle at all. I saw a video with millions of views on how to 'jailbreak' a Kindle to install KOReader. It was well received and had millions of views but Amazon patched the firmware and broke the jailbreak. Now there is a new video with a new break that is picking up traction. Which I am sure will get patched and no longer work soon. Why? Why go through this? If your aim is to use KOReader why not just buy an ereader that doesn't need to be jailbroken to install it? What is the appeal of Kindle that I am missing? EDIT: I just bought a Kindle Paperwhite Signature edition, I am going to judge for myself. I will use it for a week and come back with a comparison. Never had an e-reader. Been mainly reading on my phone and I can power through them but my eyes are starting to hurt and the screen on my phone is pretty awful on a sunny day. My friend showed me her kindle Paperwhite which seemed to do what I need - dark screen with font easily visible in the sun. But I don't understand the differences in Kobo, Boox, and other e-readers. If it helps, I don't highlight or annotate, from what I've seen other users mention. Hello! I posted recently about how my Paperwhite was too heavy for me to read comfortably because of a chronic wrist injury. I received a lot of great advice about how I could make it more accessible, and I put a lot of it to the test! I wanted to share what’s worked best for me, which is a super light clear case and this super handy strap. It turns out that the weight of my previous case was just too much, and the strap works better for me than pop sockets because I have a very weak grip due to my injury. I’m so grateful to this community for helping me enjoy my kindle. You'll have to scroll endlessly. Worse, the UI actively works against you. I’m seeing some people here who have the new one start comparing it to their older Paperwhite or Oasis. You need to keep in mind that the new Paperwhite uses a new display tech so it doesn’t make sense to expect to see the same display. The display uses an oxide thin-film transistor which gives it higher contrast ratio, faster page turn speeds and refresh rates. Your eyes are so used to the previous display that you’re seeing the new one yellow. The previous display is very white and has a slightly blue tint. The new one is warmer and might look yellow at first to you, especially when putting it side by side with an older Kindle, but you won’t notice it as your eyes adjust to it. The new Paperwhite has a display that is much closer to a paper and therefore mimics the appearance of ink on paper even more so, and is even more easier on the eyes. 12th Gen Paperwhite (top) vs. 11th Gen Paperwhite (photo by u/OrganicNebula) After using it for a few hours though, the new one looks white to me and the old one looks way too blue.
