Back in 2018 I bought myself and my wife a Kindle. I was struggling with books and the tiny print and wanted to be able to pick my font size. Between us we had way too many books, it made sense to me. I loved mine and used it until it died just recently The front light stopped working then a couple of days later it stopped responding, won't reset with a 40 second hold. It's dead. Anyway, my wife is an English teacher born in 1975 and her reaction to the gift was I'm not using that bloody thing, that's not a book. To her every book must have pages, a cover, take up physical space, be hard to hold and read now she is 50..I felt most rejected I remember...it was a sad day, she wouldn't even open the box. 😢 Eight years later my kindle died and I cried 😭, I'd just started reading Dungeon Crawler Carl and was loving it...then I remembered I had a brand new one....unopened in the cupboard. I rushed to get my loot box. She has forfeited it now it's all mine, my precious. Happy days 😁 I'm doing the recommended 24 hours on a charger. The screen had a big exclamation mark for a while but seems all good now. Annoyingly, I was excited to have an Amazon charging cable, being a nerd and losing my old one. It won't plug in the hole, it simply does not fit, other cables are fine. If I go back to JB Hifi will they give me a new one? I should have my receipt somewhere. UPDATE : Kindle is alive...it has seamlessly gone through recharge, start up, wifi, amazon and updates. I have a working kindle and can once again read in bed, especially when I can't sleep...woohoo...I am very happy. 😁 I'll be sleeping with Donut and Carl tonight. 🤣 FINAL UPDATE: I am pleased to announce after 2 weeks of reading there is 42% of battery left. 8 years of not being charged seems to have not had an impact on the battery. Well, its come to that point where my trusty Kindle Paperwhite, from many many years ago, is now dying a slow death - battery life, screen artifacts and so on. Hi there, I listen to/read on average one book a week on the Libby app. People gift me books as well. There’s a lot of books where the voice actor is like nails on a chalkboard for me - those books I rather read the actual book. So I’ll go to the library and borrow that book. I read A LOT at night. I would love to get something I can read at night next to my newborn without waking her up. So I have been looking into a kindle paperwhite. I don’t really spend much money on myself. I thrift and/or borrow what I need lately. I looked into older kindles and from what i gathered they are very slow. Someone suggested an iPad mini is a better option because it’s versatile. I’m very much on the fence if I should get one. I have looked into a book light to help with nighttime reading, but idk this seems annoying to me. Does anyone have one? Do they like it? I need help deciding which one to keep. I've had my Kindle Paperwhite since 2023 and only got the Kobo Libra Colour last December. I originally bought the Kobo for color manhwa and the idea of annotating, but...! haven't even really used the color feature. I mostly read novels. Mainly bought this out of curiosity as a lot of people said the Kobo IU is a lot more superior. Here's where I'm torn: • I miss my Kindle. The screen is so crisp and clean, easier on my eyes. • The Kobo's grain does, in fact, bother me (like... it really does) contrary to what people say. • The warm/cool light range on the Kobo doesn't feel enough for me. • I’m just a sentimental person lol. I couldn’t let my first ever Kindle go. BUT: • I love the Libra's side grip + physical buttons. SO much easier when reading because I don’t have a PopSocket on it unlike my Kindle. • It's super easy to adjust brightness and settings. • I like the idea of color and annotating... but I don't think I can justify buying the pen. • AND I already purchased two official Kobo cases (don’t judge, did it out of excitement considering I was expecting to replace my Kindle entirely.) So now I'm stuck between: Kindle = simplicity + crisp screen + what I'm used to Kobo = features + buttons + potential I'm not really using and I possibly will not use ever For those who've tried both, which would you keep and why? Especially if you mainly read novels. And no I CAN’T keep both 😅 I don’t see a reason why I should have more than one main ereader (especially since I have the xteink x4 lol). I also thought e-readers do not give the same experience but guess what… my wallet is happier and I no longer have to carry a book around to take up space in my bag.
