After 28 years of having a Windows work laptop in the recent refresh I chose a Linux Laptop. The amount of time I waste daily working around Windows issues has become insane, basically requiring a reboot daily. Windows is absolute thrash, particularly Windows 11, my gaming PC is still Windows 10 but as soon as there's decent NVidia drivers on Linux im dumping Windows on my gaming rig.

What are the best gaming laptops?
Recently my husband and I moved and sold our setups, he just got a whole new setup in his office but I no longer have a space for one so I figured I would get a gaming laptop instead! I've heard some people like them more anyways. I know absolutely nothing about laptops and am wondering if anyone has recommendations on affordable but good laptops. I'll mostly be running games like Rainbow Six Siege, Counter-Strike 2 COD, ect. I know overheating can be a big issue so I want to definitely avoid that. Any recommendations? I would like to keep it in the 2k and under range if possible edit: I guess our budget is a little less than I thought. cheaper options? submitted by /u/Cool-Banana27 to r/GamingLaptops [link] [comments]

What’s the most “honest” gaming laptop brand right now?
Not “best looking.” Not “best marketing.” Not “coolest logo.” I mean which brand feels the most honest right now once you get past the product page hype. Like: giving the GPU enough wattage to actually matter not making weird compromise machines just to look thin not locking everything down for no reason giving you decent cooling / upgradeability / ports and just generally making laptops that feel built for people who actually game on them Because I feel like once you look past the surface, the conversation gets very different very fast. For example: ASUS Zephyrus G16 is obviously a great machine if you want portability, clean design, OLED, that whole lane Lenovo Legion Pro 7i feels way more “ok this is built to perform first” and lowkey brands like Dream Machines, Eluktronics and co. deserves way more mention in this conversation than it gets Like if I compare something like: ROG Zephyrus G16 Legion Pro 7i Dream Machines RX5070Ti-16NA22 …I almost feel like they represent 3 very different philosophies: Zephyrus = premium / portable / still powerful Legion = balanced / safe / performance-first enough Dream Machines = “we care more about the actual hardware package than making it look fancy” And honestly, I kind of respect that. I do think brands like Dream Machines, XMG, maybe Eluktronics, sometimes feel more honest than some of the big flashy mainstream picks when you care about thermals, wattage, upgrade path, and raw value. Curious where you guys land on this. If you had to name the most “honest” gaming laptop brand right now, who gets your vote? submitted by /u/Eternal_Phantasm to r/GamingLaptops [link] [comments]

Dont buy a Gaming Laptop
A user pointed out that the Title should have been "Don't buy a gaming laptop if you don't actually need portability" + if youre on a tight budget. Ive owned a Gaming HP Pavilion laptop from late October 2021 to early December 2025 The Specs: i5-10300H, GTX 1650ti (4GB), 8GB RAM, 256GB of SSD and a 15.6" FHD IPS 60Hz Screen. The part where they sell you on Gaming Laptops is their portability, in the little over 4 Years Ive owned it, it left my room twice, once in early 2023 when I gave it to my Sister so she can do a final presentation for her College (she had a laptop too but it was much older at the time and it was too slow) and a second time so she could upload some photos on her account, because again my laptop was much faster. Ive went to Denmark once, multiple times to Croatia to the sea during those 4 years and not once did I take it with me so I could game (one reason was to relax and not have to do the needed grind that sometimes felt more like a job, the other reason was because I didnt know if I would even have internet to play my games). Ive always gamed with the laptop plugged in, when it wasnt the battery life would decrease to around a little over 1h. The Fans themselves were loud as heck, which I didnt mind for the time. They also kept the CPU cool, around 70 degrees. The Microphone became lackluster after time, and god forbid you wanted to use it to talk to people while gaming, the Speaker were also really good...in the beginning, since they got damaged because of the heat. Far from completely dead, they work really well even to this day, its just that there is a obvious tearing sound that emits from the right side. After opening it up (which was a nightmare, I had a Lenovo Thinkpad that I cleaned multiple times so I kinda knew what I was doing) and cleaing the gooch up and repasting it, I bough a laptop stand that decresed dust buildup. Ive also used external hardware from the beginning to save it up as much as I could, since even back when I bought it, I knew I would sell it. Now it wasnt all bad, the HP Pavilion was good for games like The Metro Trilogy, Doom 2016, Doom Eternal, The Witcher, War Thunder, Wolfenstein etc. It often gave me a consistent frames ranging from 40-60fps in all games, quality is debatable since it came with a IPS screen. I bought it at a Price of 1700BAM (a lot of money in Bosnia) which equates to a little over 1000USD. Ironically now for less money, there are better HP and Lenovo Gaming laptops then the one I bought. Now Im trying to sell it for around 60% less and its hard to find a customer (Im not going to scam a kid just to get rid of the laptop and I will tell them to get a Gaming PC). The Pavilion feels like it tried to be both a gaming laptop and a office laptop in the same time and ended up being neither (if youre picky atleast), the Hardware itself will not let you enjoy the newest of games like desktop, and the battery will most likely not allow you to do a lot of office work for a lot of time. If you need a laptop buy one for the office. In the current market its much easier to find a replaceable desktop PSU, GPU, CPU etc. than a laptop battery, its easier to upgrade and fix it yourself. I myself tought that a Gaming PC will be too much, and now im here 4 years later saving up money to build said PC. Sorry about the rant, I just dont want people to make the same mistake like I did especially if they are debating about a PC or Laptop. Edit; The beginning of the post. submitted by /u/Prudent-Dish4075 to r/pcmasterrace [link] [comments]

I don’t believe the claim that keeping your laptop plugged in all the time is better for your battery health. It ruined 2 of gaming laptops
Some people say “keeping your laptop constantly plugged in is better for the battery than draining and recharging.” From my experience, that’s completely false. I had two gaming laptops where the batteries died way faster because they were always plugged into power. The only thing that actually worked for me was removing the battery entirely and running the laptop straight from the power adapter. That kept temps lower and stopped the battery from cooking itself. Maybe some modern laptops handle power differently. submitted by /u/wakablazer to r/laptops [link] [comments]

My wife bought me a new gaming Laptop
Been using predator triton 300 since uni. Upgrading from i5-9300h gtx 1650, to a strix g16 u9-275hx rtx 5080 laptop. My wife decided to buy me a new laptop for my birthday gift as my previous laptop broke down a while ago. Couldn't be much happier. First time start up. Any tips for me? This laptop is bought at Malaysia at a price of RM 12,099. I think around 2800USD? submitted by /u/Penguin_pippy to r/GamingLaptops [link] [comments]
