Don't be afraid of leggings if that's what you're comfortable wearing. Sure, if you're dressed in full Lululemon head to toe, you'll stand out a bit, but leggings are sold and worn here too.

I LOVE lululemon leggings but I cannot justify spending $100 every time I want a pair. Are there any good brands that sell similar quality for much cheaper? The lulu ones feel like a second skin and the fabric is just perfect but I cant seem to find any dupes. Even an amazon dupe would be good as long as the quality is similar (I know it wont be exact since you do get your moneys worth at lulu). I’ve been on a never ending leggings hunt and I’m lowkey frustrated. I’m trying not to buy Lululemon because they're really expensive, but every time I branch out, the quality just… isn’t there. I’m mainly looking for warm, comfy beige leggings, think cozy, everyday wear. I bought Align high rise leggings at the beginning of the month and the leggings show clear wear and pilling after using at home and one wash. The store refuses any refund or return. First time buying Lululemon leggings and I’m honestly really disappointed. I got the Wunder Under SmoothCover with a 28” inseam because on the website, the model is shown wearing it as full-length. Based on that, I assumed 28” would work for me. When the package arrived, it was way too long — literally about a foot longer on me. For reference, I’m 4’11”. I understand models are taller, but the product photos and description made it seem like 28” was a standard full-length option, which feels misleading. I went to the store to exchange and the shortest inseam they had was 25”. I tried it on and it was still longer than I like, but I was told to have it hemmed. I did that, and now the length is technically fine, but the ankles are loose and the overall fit looks off. For something this expensive, I expected a better experience. Between the misleading website photos, the extra trip to the store, and ending up with leggings that still don’t fit right, it just feels like a waste of money and time. imgur album Since I have been at home I have been doing a lot of zoom yoga classes, and have been wanting to update my athletics wardrobe. I do have several Nike Pro 5" shorts from my college varsity athletics days, but my leggings game was quite weak (I didn't really care about leggings as much because the type of training I did didn't require it). A little about me: I am 5'10, my weight fluctuates between 185 lb to 215 lb. At my current weight of 209 lb, my 'loose' measurements are 43"-35"-45" and my 'fitted' measurements are 41”-32”-43”. All of these leggings are in a size Large with the exception of the Lululemon shorts which are a size 12 and the Uniqlo which are XL. I wash all my leggings on cold and air dry them. I look for a good fit in the waist (which is tough bc of my large hip/waist ratio) as well as high compression and flexibility. Softness is a plus but not necessarily a priority. Nike Sculpt Legging - 80% nylon / 20% elastane. I bought these back in 2015 when I started to get more serious about my athletic training in college. These are my FAVORITE because they are high waisted, thick performance material with high compression, opaque, they don't slide down my hips nor do they bag at the knees, and are the most reliable pair of longer athletic pants I own. This video shows the full length version of the legging from 2015 but the model in the video is wearing a few sizes too large probably, so it looks baggy and unflattering on her. Anyway, these leggings are my gold standard and I have not found a pair that fits me better. I used to own these in the full length version, but lost them on a trip. I was devastated. But thankfully I still have the Capri version, and I take them with me when I go to a physical store to buy leggings just to have something to compare to. NOTE: I can’t find these online anymore, they only have Nike Sculpt Lux which look different and I can’t speak to the quality and fit of those. NOTE2: if you don’t enjoy compression/if you care about ~softness of the fabric, these are probably not the best for you. Comparably, these are “more difficult” to put on than the rest, but once they’re on they’re the only ones that consistently stay up. Alo Yoga Lounge Legging - 87% polyester / 13% spandex. These are a recent eBay acquisition. They are very soft - about as soft as the Lululemon Align 4" shorts I have, but they are definitely thicker. Despite the thick-feeling material, they show underwear lines the most out of all the leggings I own (most likely because of light color). They feel the most like an organic cotton material out of all the leggings I own. They do fit ok at the waist (could be tighter), but they bag at the knees a bit for me and are too long on me. I am 5'10 but as you can tell from the photos my length comes from my torso rather than my legs. Their compression is minimal, however the waist is a bit tighter than my Outdoor Voices leggings (which have more compression throughout but the waistband is too loose). I wouldn't pay full price for these but they are nice as a legging to lounge in, and even fall asleep in. Uniqlo Airism Soft Legging - 72% polyester / 28% spandex. I bought these on a whim one time at the mall and kind of regret it. They were only $20 so it's not a big loss, but I never wear them unless I have run out of clothes and need to wear something while I am doing laundry. Despite having the most spandex content of all my leggings, these seem to stretch the least. They slide down my hips and bag at the knees. These are self described to be "dry" and "cool to the touch" which I suppose I can agree with, but I have never worked out in these. Girlfriend Collective - 79% RPET (recycled polyester made out of plastic) / ??. I have washed these too many times since I received them in 2017 during their 'free leggings, just pay $20 shipping' promo launch so I don't know the exact fabric content of these leggings because it has rubbed off the label. In college these + the Nikes were the only long spandex I owned, so I wore the shit out of them. I hated that they slide down constantly/bag in the knees, but I didn't have enough time or energy to devote to finding a better pair at the time. These had compression, but didn't feel like I could do athletic activities in them which is such an oxymoron because the Nikes had more compression but still felt flexible. They have a tiny waistband pocket in the back that I have never used. They feel similar in texture to the Uniqlos, but are a bit softer. I would not pay full price for these (although someone told me that the new ones are better than the 2017 promo ones) Outdoor Voices 7/8 Freeform Legging - 85% polyester / 15% spandex. These feel similar in texture to the Alo Yoga leggings but the Alo are softer. They are described online as being "peachy-soft". Thickness wise they are between Alo (thick) and Lulu aligns (thin). I got this with the freeform bra in one of their student OV sets just to try out the brand. These leggings are soft and opaque, the waistband is seamless (not sure if this makes a difference) but way too flexible. I wore this set to zoom yoga and found myself constantly pulling the leggings up and having one of my boobs fall out of the freeform bra because it was so low cut (I ended up exchanging the bra from L for an XL to eliminate that issue). I'm thinking of going to the tailor and having them fix the waistband for me after covid19 is over. Lululemon Align 4" short - 81% nylon / 19% lycra elastane. Despite being the most similar in fabric content to the Nike sculpt leggings I own, these are one of the bottoms that have the least compression. The material is advertised as being for yoga which I can agree with. I got these a year ago and they have like the tiniest pilling throughout the inside of the shorts but it's not noticeable unless you're really looking for things to point out (as I am). I enjoy these for yoga, however I find they ride up a lot and the light color shows underwear lines. This and the OV are the only ones I have with a “seamless” waistband. Again I’m not sure if that makes a difference/how being seamless affects the fit. What are your favorite leggings? If anyone has any suggestions for me I would gladly look into them. I ordered one athleta legging from eBay (I think they are the high rise chattarunga tight in navy but I can't be sure) so I hope those are a success. I'm also waiting on an old navy built in sculpt 7/8 legging order. I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of workout leggings for what feels like forever. I’ve tried a good amount of different brands and thought it might be helpful to do a review of the different workout leggings brands I've tried to help out other people looking for the perfect pair! I usually do cardio and lifting but sometimes also attend kickboxing classes, so if you’re looking for the perfect pair of yoga leggings, this may not be for you. But if you’re looking for a pair of leggings to hit the squat rack or do some HIIT training in, here’s my verdict. For reference, I am 5’4, and usually a size 4-6. I’m pretty in shape but still have a little belly fat that I would like to conceal at the gym. *Disclaimer: not affiliated with any of these companies, just someone who loves workout leggings! ​ Lululemon Fit: True to size, sometimes a little small. I’ve found they stretch out over time so I usually treat my new lulu’s as “lounge leggings” and once they’re worn out of that I use them as gym leggings. Lulu’s really do make your butt look great and I love the compression band around the stomach, it ends right about at my belly button which helps eliminate any potential muffin top. Comfort: So comfortable! Lulu’s are my go-to for road trips, airplane rides, anything where I’m wearing them for a long time. Price: Around $100 Style: I usually buy the wunder under’s (thicker material), but have a few pairs of aligns (thinner) as well. Wunder under has more body shaping effects, aligns feel like you are wearing a literal cloud. Notes: Lulu’s are probably the staple “high-end” legging. They are definitely squat proof and help shape your legs but they are honestly not my favorite for lifting. I have 6+ pairs of lulu’s in various colours and styles but the wunder under 7/8 length is my fave. Rating: 8/10 ​ Gymshark Fit: True to size, but stretch out over time to mold to your body. Comfort: Gymshark leggings are true compression leggings, a.k.a not as comfortable but they really suck you in. I definitely would not want to wear these on a road trip, but for a day of lifting at the gym they’re great! I do find that if I wear them for too long it starts to get uncomfortable since they provide a Spanx-level amount of body contouring. Price: Ballpark of $50 Style: Gymsharks come in so many colors and styles, but my favorite is the energy+ seamless leggings. The one critique I have is that the patch at the crotch is a little large can be awkwardly visible if you’re doing some sort of squatting movement, but overall I think the contouring on these leggings is super flattering. Notes: Gymsharks do stretch out over time, so if they feel crazy tight when you first get them don’t worry. Throughout your workout, they will mold to your body more and become more comfortable. I have probably 6-8 pairs of gymshark leggings in various colors and styles but energy+ seamless is my fave! Rating: 8.5/10 ​ Echt Apparel Fit: A little on the small side Comfort: Echt leggings are pretty much the same as gymshark in terms of comfort. Super strong compression (which completely hides any lower belly pooch I sometimes have) but not the leggings I want to spend hours lounging around in. Price: Ballpark of $50 Style: Echt is very similar to gymshark in terms of styles available, but they do have more etching in the designs. They have those little crescent patterns on the butt area which I think are super flattering, and texture on the hamstring area which I think would help hide any cellulite. Notes: I only have 1 pair of leggings from Echt so I can’t speak on the range of items as a whole, but Echt seems to be a pretty equal competitor with gymshark in terms of quality for me. Rating: 8/10 ​ AliExpress Leggings (Supposed to be a dupe for gymshark) Fit: Exactly the same as gymshark. I’ve heard they are made in the same factory, but not sure if this is true. Regardless, everything down to the etching is the same but I would say the material is lower quality. I have 2 pairs of these in different styles (both gymshark dupe styles) and have found the issues discussed for both. Comfort: Similar to gymshark, but they do not hold to your body in the way that gymshark does. By the end of my workout, I had one of those annoying gaps in the waist which I do not get from gymshark. Price: Like $10 each lol Style: Same as gymshark Notes: Although these look exactly the same as gymshark, I definitely noticed lower quality. I feel like these will be trashed in 6 months. I also noticed that they do not have sweat-wicking material like gymshark--aka all sweat was showing through in stains immediately. Rating: 7/10 ​ NVGTN Fit: In my opinion, NVGTN leggings fit like an absolute dream. They have the waistband compression of gymsharks, but the actual leg part has the flexibility and comfortability of Lululemon’s. I have 3 pairs of these and they have quickly become my favorite! Comfort: Like I said above, SO COMFORTABLE! I am able to do cardio, weights, and stretching and they work equally as well for all of these. Price: Around $50 Style: NVGTN leggings are almost all fun colors, so if you favor black leggings there aren’t too many options for you. However, if you’re a fan of the bright colored leggings nvgtn has the cutest stuff! They have bright colors, butt contouring, quad contouring, the whole deal. I personally am a big fan of this because it makes me feel super confident and motivates me to work hard! I have 2 pairs of leggings and a pair of their biker style shorts (which I was nervous about the fit) and they fit so well, not awkward at all. Notes: I was hesitant to try them because it is a brand made by an Instagram influencer, but the quality is actually fantastic and I’m so happy with them. Downside is though since it’s a growing company, they are always out of stock and you have to wait for the drops and buy immediately.
