We are finishing our basement and going with Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige paint and a black bar. My client would like to space his 4x8 floor joists at 32" o.c. The floor joist span is 11'. Will a 1" advantech subfloor be sufficient? The finished floor will be a luxury vinyl plank flooring. Looking at the advantech tables it appears it would be but I am wondering if anyone has dealt with an actual floor system built this way and if any deflection/bounce was noticable.

Had luxury vinyl commercial flooring installed about 3 years ago, and the floors are slowly crumbling at the joints, worse where our office chairs sit. No leveling compounds were used and the contractor says they were not required because the unevenness was within plank specs, and that I should have selected better floors for an office... I've noticed a shift lately - more people in renovation communities moving back toward real hardwood, tile, or even polished concrete. The "luxury" vinyl aesthetic that dominated the last decade is starting to feel dated in the same way that grey everything did around 2015 I'm not saying LVP is bad - the practical case for it is real. We’re finally doing it. We are replacing the existing carpet in our living/dining room area with vinyl flooring. Roughly 350 sq ft. My big question is this: while the overall space is walled off at 90* angles, there is a natural ~45* angle entryway into the kitchen. I think a cool design twist would be to start laying planks along this entryway, and maintaining this angle throughout the entire space. Obviously, the simple alternative would be laying everything parallel to one of the regular walls. Anyone foresee any issues or general pain points with using the angled approach? I realize this would mean cutting plank-ends at angles wherever they meet the wall. Curious if there are other things to consider in this situation. Thanks! I am finally getting rid of the dirty carpet in my living room, and I need to pick a new floor. I really love the look of real hardwood, but it is way out of my price range right now. Everyone keeps telling me to get luxury vinyl plank because it is durable and affordable, but I am worried it will feel hard and plastic under my feet. I don't want my house to feel fake. I was searching online for budget options and found https://www.reallycheapfloors.com/shop/prefinished-solid-hardwood/. It looks like a possible solution for getting materials, but I don't know if the quality is actually good. Has anyone used them? I have had the same carpet for almost 20 years. I'm trying to decide what I want to replace it with. I own 6 indoor dogs (biggest is 100 lbs). I'm wanting something that would hold up well to the dogs, be easy to clean and isn't too slippery. My past Rottweiler had some trouble on slick floors as he aged. My current Rottweiler slobbers all over the place whenever he gets a drink of water. My elderly Yorkipoo has the occasional accident. My house is about 1300 sqft and its on a slab. So my planks are warping in a U shape and coming up on the sides. The affected area is about 4 planks wide and 5 feet long. What caused this and what can I do about it? Hi everyone, I bet this has been discussed to death but her we are again. I got a new place that has hardwood but there's noticeable water damage and the floors are warped right by the fridge. Now, I'm doing new cabinets and moving things around that will require new floor. I was set on hardwood and then after researching I came across Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) and honestly it is being tempting for me. The pros I can see for the material, that are on every blogpost, is the low maintenance, water and scratch resistant. I have had water damage in the past and it is not fun plus I'm more of the mentality of set it and forget it type of guy. What am I really missing if I don't go with hardwood? Is it only the bragging rights? is there anything functional that I'm completely overlooking? Also, if I go LVP what brand to install? I just came from homedepot and their premium brand is Lifeproof, is this a good brand? what other brands would you recommend if I'm going LVP? So I'm in a bit of a bind.. one hand I'm broke and budgeting very tightly, on the other hand my existing flooring is becoming dangerous as the planks are screwed up and sharp and my kids feet are getting hurt by it. I can only buy on Lowe's using my credit card so I found some flooring I really liked and really thought it was luxury vinyl plank click flooring but when I went to pick it up it was glue down. I really like the color, but it is not what I was expecting. I even bought underlayment in preparation but wouldn't use it if we switched to glue down (so that money can go towards adhesive). Our sub floor is concrete slab so it would be perfect for this but I'm doing this myself and am worried I would do a crappy job with the gluing. Should I return and pay a bit more for the click flooring or keep the glue down and just go for it? It would be about an extra $4-500 for actual click flooring. To note: I have 4 kids and a dog and it's about 850 sq ft of space Edit: also to note, I got the existing flooring 5 years ago for cheap when I bought our house and it's just crap quality. We are replacing our engineered wood floor with luxury vinyl planking. It will be throughout the main level of the home including the entryway and kitchen. We have children and a large dog that have really wrecked our previous flooring. Our dog is really the biggest issue as her nails have put some large and deep scratches into the flooring. We are going to redo the floors in our newly purchased 1000 sq ft ranch. It currently has carpet in the 3 bedrooms and hallway. We were going to do a cohesive LVP in the kitchen and living room, and then have carpet installed in the hallway and bedrooms. Someone told us carpet is OUT and that LVP throughout would increase the home value. I think she’s probably right but I don’t know what is best for us. One week ago, my wife and I decided that we wanted new floor. We had this light tile with a light grout that was visually appealing to the eye but you can not keep it clean. The grout gets all kinds of shit in it and the only clean it is hands and knees scrubbing. This tile is in our living room, kitchen, dining room, and a half bath covering almost the entire first floor. We went to the Home Depot where for some reason, the floor guy showed us these planks that snapped in half when you held them from the long end... Yeah not into that. We saw the Lifeproof flooring and really liked the durability, lifetime warranty, scratch resistant top, and the boards come with the under-laminate already attached. The Home depot guy used a utility knife and gouged the face of the boards and yeah, it scratched it but you couldn't really see it. Home Depot quoted us $11,000 to remove our old flooring and the installation of the Lifeproof flooring. We had installed click and lock flooring in our old house so we said "fuck that" and decided to do it ourselves if we were going to install it. We went home and thought about it... then went to the Depot and picked up 43 boxes (850ish square feet at $3.19/square foot) of this shit with all of the tools that we needed. Per Home Depot, you can install this shit right on top of the tile as long as it's within the specs of the flooring which was 0.25 inches over 10 feet. I bought an angle grinder with a concrete leveling wheel and masks/glasses, and a 8 foot straight edge so that I could measure the floor... (anyone with experience with this is already laughing... because I had no experience with this when I started). We got home. and started removing the quarter round piece by piece... this was honestly the easiest part. Chisel, hammer... done. I went around the floor using the straight edge in all directions seeing if the floor was level. Holy shit. So tile is one of those things that you think is going to be straight and level but its not. 0.25 inches over 10 feet is not a lot of wiggle room. I used the angle grinder to take the floor as close to level as I could and the only advice I can give on this part is WEAR A MASK AND EYE PRO!!!!! Turn off your HVAC too. I've read here and there that doing anything with tile creates dust, but nothing could prepare me for this amount. It was REDICULOUS. Words can not describe how much shit grinding the tile kicked up. On to the installation of the floor! We started in the living room and install in relatively straight forward. Lifeproof flooring is NOT your typical drop and lock system. You HAVE to hammer each individual plank into place. It's not difficult but it is tedious as hell. It's also important to tell you guys that the boards can lock into place from either direction, but there's only really one way they're designed to go into place. The layout of the rooms in our house made it impossible to start in one location and have the planks installing in one direction. We would eventually have to install the planks going in the opposite direction from where we started. Mistakes were made and we probably destroyed 6-10 boxes of planks due to damaging boards or not measuring appropriately. The design of Lifeproof flooring prohibits you from using one of those pull bars on the side of the board with the groove. You will damage the board so we had to use a very small cutoff from another board, attach it to the face of the board, then hammer on that. Installation took four days because I did not take time off of work to install it so I only had about 4 hours per day to put the floor in. Summary: If I can go back and do it all over again, I would rip up the tile. The amount of work I had to do to level the tile was probably the same as ripping it up. If any of you plan on installing flooring over tile, just don't... Do the work and pull up the old floor. Home Depot quoted me $250/day to rent the machine to destroy the tile. You can do it all in a day and it avoids the hazard of kicking up all that god damn dust. I hope this post helps anyone planning on installing anything over tile. I learned a lot doing the project and I'm very happy with the floor!
