My client would like to space his 4x8 floor joists at 32" o.c. The floor joist span is 11'. Will a 1" advantech subfloor be sufficient? The finished floor will be a luxury vinyl plank flooring. [Update] Vinyl Plank looks like tile with “grout” lines?
Hi everyone! I really appreciate all the helpful comments and advice! 🙏 The contractor (ServPro) has now agreed that the wrong materials were ordered and installed. My husband made this comparison photo to show the sample vs. installation. The sample photo was taken at an AirBnB (where we are staying while our home is repaired). The question now is, given this mistake, should we move forward with the contractor constructing a custom bathroom vanity? original post is here. submitted by /u/J_Melkonian_A to r/Flooring [link] [comments]

Vinyl Plank looks like tile with “grout” lines?
Update post is here. We just had flooring replaced after water damage. I am shocked by how pronounced the edges are on every single plank. It does not look like our prior floor, which did not have noticeable seams. It also looks different from the manufacturer‘s photos. I am concerned that the flooring is (A) installed incorrectly and/or (B) not the material we choose. What do you think? Here’s the manufacture’s image: http://www.master-floors.net/ProductShow.asp?menu1=49&sort1=1&sort2=2&id=113 Thank you! submitted by /u/J_Melkonian_A to r/Flooring [link] [comments]

Vinyl Flooring Planks vs Solid Oak: What Actually Holds Up Better?
I'm trying to decide between vinyl flooring planks and solid oak flooring for a renovation, and I'm curious what people have experienced long-term. Vinyl seems to be the default recommendation these days because of durability and moisture resistance, especially for living rooms and kitchens. But solid oak obviously has the classic look. For anyone who has lived with either for a few years, which one actually holds up better with daily wear? Also curious if anyone has tried kitchen vinyl sheet flooring in high-traffic areas and how it compares. submitted by /u/LimestoneLogic to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]

Does luxury vinyl plank feel cheap to walk on?
I am finally getting rid of the dirty carpet in my living room, and I need to pick a new floor. I really love the look of real hardwood, but it is way out of my price range right now. Everyone keeps telling me to get luxury vinyl plank because it is durable and affordable, but I am worried it will feel hard and plastic under my feet. I don't want my house to feel fake. I was searching online for budget options and found https://www.reallycheapfloors.com/shop/prefinished-solid-hardwood/. It looks like a possible solution for getting materials, but I don't know if the quality is actually good. Has anyone used them? I am wondering if LVP is worth it or if I should look for something else. Please let me know if you have cheaper recommendations. I just want the best option for my money. submitted by /u/Bos187 to r/floorplan [link] [comments]

Why the drama over vinyl plank flooring?
Honestly, I’ve never understood why vinyl flooring gets so much hate. Personally, I think it looks fantastic and is way easier to look after than solid wood. When I was looking for LVP, I found that lots of brands have really good options, like Braag’s Spirrit series, Karndean and Quick-Step. They just look amazing. Vinyl plank flooring is stylish, easy to clean, makes life so much easier and it’s reasonably priced too. submitted by /u/Perfect-Tower-6710 to r/AusRenovation [link] [comments]

New build vinyl flooring already gapping and cracking. Installer says I’m “fussy” – what are my rights in NZ?
Hey everyone, We moved into our newly built home about two months ago. From day one we had issues with the vinyl flooring. The builder sent people back several times to fix it, but now we’ve noticed new gaps forming between planks and many corners has started cracking. The flooring guy came out again and basically brushed it off, saying we’ve “always been fussy” and that this is a manufacturing defect. This doesn’t sit right with me. It’s a brand-new home and the flooring shouldn’t be failing already. What are my rights here under NZ law? Can I take this to the Disputes Tribunal if the builder refuses to fix it properly? Any advice from people who’ve dealt with this before would be great. submitted by /u/Gurwinder-nz to r/LegalAdviceNZ [link] [comments]

My [28F] Boyfriend [30M] Has Very Weird Gift Preferences
My boyfriend of 2 years has been amazing in every way, but I feel like it's hopeless when it comes to me trying to be romantic and buying him gifts. When it comes to holidays and birthdays, he buys me very romantic things like flowers, fancy dinners out, experiences like a spa day, and other things that I think are normal gifts. When it comes to me buying him gifts, he has a strict thing where he just tells me ahead of time to buy this because he wants it. I get that's fine since he want to make sure I'm getting something he likes, but the gifts he asks for are very weird. For example, one time he suggested a gift of a drill kit because his current one was wearing out. Another time he just wanted a case of a specific brand of beer. The last time which was his birthday, he wanted to buy some vinyl flooring to replace a couple of broken planks and we went together so I'd pick the right one. Yup. His birthday present form me was a case of vinyl flooring, which he seemed happy to install and then send me the pictures after lol. Can the guys here tell me more about this strange preference? I asked a couple of guy friends and they actually chuckled and said it's pretty legit. submitted by /u/ThrowRA1123112 to r/relationship_advice [link] [comments]

I truly can't believe it... look close.
A woman I know works for a rental housing company located in here in Canada. The housing company needed one of their units fixed up before another family moved in. One of the maintenance men, was tasked with replacing the counter top and for lack of a better way to say this, is a foreigner, and painted the counter top first. Then didn't like the way it turned out so he went ahead and installed vinyl plank flooring on the counter... She said he was so happy the way it turned out. I'm in shock and awe. My gameroom is complete after years in storage
Storytime: I finally have the gameroom I've wanted for years. It took many, many hours and late nights but it's finally done. My wife and I bought this house last year as we outgrew our last place (kids). This room needed a lot of work which was primarily done by me. I dont have a background in anything related to renovation/contracting but I do have the internet and have had some help with the flooring from my father and FIL. Down below I linked an album showing the progress made over the past year. DIY stuff: For flooring I laid down high traffic vinyl planking across the entire basement (~850sqft) over an underlayment which rests ontop of tile. For paint, my color scheme was inspired by the most legendary game console ever, the NES. The walls reflect the two tone greys along with the semi-gloss black and red accents. The floor trim was measured, cut, and installed by me (very satisfying to get this done). The shelving I measured, cut, primed, and painted from poplar wood since it's a stronger than pine which tends to bend. Poplar is a great stiff wood and is cheaper when compared to oak. I got the idea for these style shelves from youtubers Saturday Morning Gamer and Morts Garage. The lighting is slim LED lighting that has a "nite mode" at the flick of a switch. I have never done electrical beyond changing a fixture so this was a fun learning project. I also installed a modern lutron dimmer for dimming on both lighting types. All the cardboard and fragile things are lifted well off the ground because I got some toddlers that love to grab things. I decided to go with custom shelves because I didn't want to have those cheap media tower shelves that sit on the floor. My house is also a raised ranch so I had to figure out how to make shelves from scratch to go above the permanent shelf that surrounds the room. https://imgur.com/a/uMVwHYK Now that the DIY stuff is out of the way... For games, I only collect what I used to play back in childhood and ones that interest me. I'm not into collecting full sets or games that are "valuable". I have about 900-ish games and I'm mostly content. Looking to add more boxed games but i'm in no rush. I always wanted a gameroom that is practical hat is meant to ENJOYED. I will never understand the museum mentality where everything is in glass cases with no where to sit down. I try to beat as many games as I can each year, thanks to inspiration from the "games we played" videos from MyLifeinGaming on YouTube. I'm currently having a blast playing Luigi's Mansion 2 on 3DS. I recently 103%'d Donkey Kong Country 3 on SNES, then before that beat Resident Evil 2 and 3 on Gamecube. The CRT is a 32" Sony trinitron KV-FS120 which I have a Wii, PS2, and OG Xbox running through a component switcher. The SNES and N64 are on S-video, and the NES is on composite. The 55" Sharp LED has an HDMI switcher for Xbox One, 360, PS4 Pro, Switch 1 and 2. Everything is run through a surround sound receiver and sounds amazing. The wiring and organizing for this was a pain FYI. submitted by /u/suicidalkoala to r/gamecollecting [link] [comments]

Luxury Vinyl Plank Recommendations from the Pros
We are replacing our engineered wood floor with luxury vinyl planking. It will be throughout the main level of the home including the entryway and kitchen. We have children and a large dog that have really wrecked our previous flooring. Our dog is really the biggest issue as her nails have put some large and deep scratches into the flooring. What brand of luxury vinyl planking do you recommend that doesn't scratch easily and looks like real wood? submitted by /u/Ldubs_12 to r/Renovations [link] [comments]

Most people are getting vinyl floors that look worse for no realistic added benefit. Many of you will hate me for the truth I speak.
People over purchase in wear layer thickness for residential applications and unknowingly give their floors more of a plastic look than they need. They associate a thicker wear layer with a stronger, more mar resistant wear layer, which is not the case. Most households would be fine with a 6mil wear layer, 12 at the most for very active households. I’ve been on commercial sites years later with 6mil wear layers where the only failures were low spots from poor prep. Thicker wear layers are designed to last for years in commercial spaces, which might see more traffic in a day than many houses in a year. A vinyl plank wear layer is a PVC/polyurethane blend, with different additives depending on the brand but almost all with aluminum oxide. These wear layers are ever slightly opaque. The decor layer for these planks sits below the surface of the wear layer, and the thicker it is the more it of a “plastic” look the surface will have and the less sharp the decor layer will look. Please argue below thank you for your opinions no matter how wrong they are. submitted by /u/Leinad580 to r/Flooring [link] [comments]

Carpet vs Luxury Vinyl Plank in bedrooms? Comfort / resale / cost ?
We are going to redo the floors in our newly purchased 1000 sq ft ranch. It currently has carpet in the 3 bedrooms and hallway. We were going to do a cohesive LVP in the kitchen and living room, and then have carpet installed in the hallway and bedrooms. Someone told us carpet is OUT and that LVP throughout would increase the home value. I think she’s probably right but I don’t know what is best for us. We will probably live there between 5-10 years. submitted by /u/chainsaw-pry to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]
