How can I continue supplementing with concentrated collagen powder without it causing me anxiety/insomnia from the high glycine content present
Hello all, I was wondering if someone could help me in regards of what I can do/or supplement with in continuing my supplementation with collagen concentrate, as I find that the glycine component that is highly present in hydrolyzed collagen is giving me severe anxiety and insomnia, as was the same with magnesium glycinate supplementation. I want to reap the benefits of collagen supplementation, primarily for cosmetic reasons, without the downsides that it seems to be causing me. Magnesium Glycinate supplements that have been effective for you?
Hi there, I’ve been taking a supplement that’s a mix between Magnesium citrinate/glycinate and it’s been coming with wayyy less side effects than the citrinate only one I was taking a few weeks ago. That being said, I’m still having some side effects, but the brand I like doesn’t have a glycinate only supplement I can take. I prefer powders and liquids (flavored or unflavored) but I’ll take it in any form that works! I’m also able to buy a more expensive brand if that’s needed. submitted by /u/MissBiggRed to r/PCOS [link] [comments]

Magnesium Glycinate issue.
Magnesium Glycinate/ Glycine question. Hi everyone, For roughly two years prior to the past four months, I had been taking magnesium glycinate for sleep and general wellbeing, and it definitely helped me. However, after about a year of starting it, I think it may have become a contributing factor to the insomnia I then experienced for the following year. At the start of this year I stopped all my supplements. Then, in the last month, I started taking just glycine powder — and I can say this has definitely helped my sleep. I've never been able to fall asleep so quickly as I have since starting it. My question is: how has glycine helped, yet magnesium glycinate seemingly affected me negatively? The glycine component appears to be beneficial for my sleep, so what role did the magnesium play? Any other forms others have found to help with sleep? Thanks. All opinions welcomed. submitted by /u/Alarming-Dentist-310 to r/sleep [link] [comments]

Do you change the types of magnesium you take? Ive been taking mag glycinate capsules for a while, bought powder for bulk/cost reasons and oh boy it tastes bad. Like a really salty and eggy fish.
Usually bad flavor we assume maybe something is wrong. It's mostly to do with the glycine in glycinate but its one of the most popular versions of it (and I love the calming it brings). But wonder if one day I should move onto other versions for health reasons. From taurate, to threonate, oxide, citrate, pidolate, etc etc. submitted by /u/DiaryofaFairy to r/VitaminD [link] [comments]

Product idea, magnesium powder with lemon juice. Takes away the fishy mineral flavor.
Since vitamin d is a common deficiency you need enough magnesium in the body to actually make your vitamin d go to work. It uses up your magnesium available. So I was looking to buy in bulk because I'm just not a sun-exposure type of person (capsules cost way more), and much magnesium tastes TERRIBLE lol, doesnt always completely dissolve in water. Then someone mentioned squirting lemons and it just takes away the flavor... Nobody has mixed these two together in a ready made product. So would be convenient and very useful for the mass market. Consider making it ND team. Only reason I take glycinate version of Mag is because it seems to be the most popular. Helps bring head calm and reduce head aches. submitted by /u/DiaryofaFairy to r/NootropicsDepot [link] [comments]

At Home Drink Test Strip Shows Lead When Testing Magnesium Glycinate Supplement
I have been taking Nutricost Magnesium Glycinate powder for years and recently decided to use a drinking water test strip to see if it has lead. I did multiple tests with the same concentration I typically take and all showed lead levels at the highest range on the test strip. I also tested my wifes magnesium powder, which contains some magnesium glycinate, and the strip showed minimal to no lead. Is it possible that my magnesium glycinate is interacting with the test strip to falsely show high lead levels? Or does this supplement contain lead? I realize these test strips are not super accurate, but the lead levels they are showing are scary. Another thing to note is that mg glycinate is alkaline so maybe that messes with the test strip? Would really appreciate any insight. submitted by /u/Fun-Distribution744 to r/chemistry [link] [comments]

Nutricost Magnesium Glycinate Powder Extremely High Lead Content on Drinking Water Test Strip
I recently tested nutricost magnesium glycinate powder with drinking water test strips and the lead content was off the charts. Does anyone know if this could be caused by the magnesium glycinate interacting with with test strips weirdly or if the powder actually has lead? I have been taking this for years and it really helps me sleep. I was reading reviews on other mg glycinate products and saw someone tested their product with a drinking water test strip and the results showed really high lead. I decided to do the same and the results were extremely high lead. I have not seen nutricost's COA but I assume they wouldn't be selling a product with really high lead. I also tested my wifes powder which contains 3 different forms of mg including mg glycinate and there was no lead, so this really makes me think the Nutricost version has lead. Does anyone have a recommendation for mg glycinate powder that is clean? submitted by /u/Fun-Distribution744 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Just realized that all the top Magnesium Glycinate products on Amazon are mixed with Magnesium Oxide
I was looking for the product with the highest concentration of elemental magnesium per pill, thinking that I'm outsmarting the marketing by looking at the ingredients and not falling for advertising calling out the total Magnesium Glycinate weight. But I've just realized that it goes even deeper. Calling the product buffered and sneakily mentioning Magnesium Oxide or calling it "buffered". I've been taking Magnesium Glycinate for about a year, I first bought "Wellgard Pure Magnesium Glycinate" which was the best seller with 4.5 rating, it says "Pure Magnesium Glycinate, not mixed with Citrate or Malate" but it is mixed with the worst option, Magnesium Oxide, and they don't mention that in the title and the elemental magnesium mentioned doesn't call it out either. I then switched to Ignneus thinking it is better/more premium as it contains more Magnesium per pill. apparently more Magnesium per pill is only possible by increasing the percent of Magnesium Oxide compared to Magnesium Glycinate. I saw other brands recommending 3-4 capsules because they were pure Magnesium Glycinate and thought that they are cheap crap and the high concentration one is the real deal. A few other things some of them add: Brown Rice Flour: A filler ingredient used to pack the capsule so it isn't empty space. Magnesium Stearate: An anti-caking agent (a lubricant that prevents the machine from jamming during manufacturing). Silicon Dioxide: An anti-caking agent (keeps the powder from clumping together). Some of them have "clean" version that doesn't include any of these, but most have Oxide and are still advertising their product as pure Magnesium Glycinate. How can they get away with that? submitted by /u/ThousandNiches to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

Talk to me about magnesium glycinate
Hello awesome ladies! My NP just recommended that I try magnesium glycinate to help me stay asleep (started hrt 5 weeks ago, .05 estrogen patch and 200mg progesterone). The bottle of pills I got say to take them with a meal, so I took my first dose with dinner last night and 90 minutes later, I was so drowsy I could hardly stay awake (but it was soooo early for bed!). I know food helps with absorption, so how do you all do it? How long does it take to work? How little food is enough to help it absorb? And does it actually help you stay asleep? I had a poor night’s sleep last night but will keep trying…for how long? Recommendations? And does form matter? My NP recommended a powder, which would get mixed with water and drank but then I would up all night in the bathroom. So I got pills instead. Is there a difference in effectiveness? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences, the advice I get here is helping me get through this! 😊 I have searched the subreddit but haven’t seen answers to some of my specific questions. EDIT: Thanks so much, everyone! It’s wild to hear such a huge range of experiences. You all have given me lots of things to watch for and suggestions. I appreciate every response! EDIT 2: I tried it for several days and unfortunately, while my muscles felt relaxed, my mind raced, so my insomnia came back with a vengeance. It also left my digestive system feeling really rough. I have now stopped for a few days, taking only 200mg progesterone, and I fall asleep quickly and get a good 5-6 hours. Not ideal but I can live with it. I may try some of the other suggestions you provided here, so thanks again! submitted by /u/Go-Mellistic to r/Menopause [link] [comments]

Best Magnesium Glycinate and Vitamin K2 supplements?
I've got Vitamin D deficiency. I live in a Tier-3 city so the quality of healthcare here is lacking, still, I talked with a doc. Upon being asked about Magnesium and Vitamin K2, he at first said that there's no need for anything else as D3 supplement by itself pushes D levels up to the required threshold very quickly. Eventually gave me option of taking MgD3, but said K2 is not needed, again, because I'm still relatively young according to him 😅 with little risk of complications. And also gave me the option of taking Magnesium + K2 supplements for mental peace if I want with Uprise D3. So I think I will go with the latter. For Magnesium, I came across these two options: - Trexgenics Magnesium Bisglycinate Powder - Swisse High Strength Magnesium Glycinate & Citrate Powder Which one do you guys think is the best? The Trexgenics one seems most bang for buck. And for K2, there's doesn't seem to be a concrete consensus on this sub. Some people seem to swear by Naturaltein, Biotrex, HealthyHey, etc. and others seem to advice against them. Of the stuff people have recommended here, Unived seems most promising. Has any body here tried Unived's K2? Are they a trusted/safe brand? The thing is, I've got a dogshit liver cuz of NAFLD, which has improved in recent months due to weight loss, which I really don't want to deteriorate again because of shitty supplements lol. submitted by /u/Sheer_Birinj to r/Fitness_India [link] [comments]

Demystifying the 22% Magnesium in Magnesium Glycinate myth: It's called buffered Magnesium Glycinate and the effective bioavailable elemental magnesium is less than 15%.
This is a continuation of the very useful post by u/iamsorryy last week. I will try to elaborate here. Why Magnesium Glycinate? Magnesium glycinate (a.k.a. Magnesium Bisglycinate) is one of the most bioavailable forms of magnesium. Several brands claim 22% elemental magnesium availability in their magnesium glycinate formulation. E.g. Naturaltein 550 mg magnesium glycinate claims to have 121 mg elemental magnesium. Tata 1mg magnesium glycinate 1000 mg tablet claims to have 220 mg elemental magnesium. What's the issue? Molecular weight of magnesium glycinate is 172.4. Molar mass of magnesium is 24.3. The elemental magnesium availability in magnesium glycinate can therefore be (24.3/172.4*100%) = ~14.1%. This is the theoretical maximum. What's the truth behind the 22% claim? Here's the catch: There's something called buffered Magnesium Glycinate. This is practically a mixture of the much-less-bioavailable Magnesium Oxide and our target Magnesium Glycinate. Since magnesium oxide (mass: 40.3) is much lighter than magnesium glycinate, the former has nearly 60% elemental magnesium by mass. Therefore, the mixture can have anything between 14.1% and 60% elemental magnesium depending on the mixture ratio. What's the effective magnesium? To get 22% magnesium in buffered Magnesium Glycinate, the MgGly:MgO ratio should be around 83:17 [1]. Under the assumption of 100% bioavilability of MgGly (in reality, it's around 90%, but for fairness let's assume MgGly is perfect), this gives you 0.83*0.14=0.116 or 11.6% of elemental magnesium. Bioavailability of Mg in MgO is much less. Estimates are around 4% to 21%. With 4%, you get 0.17*.0.04 a.k.a. 0.7% of magnesium. With 21%, you get 0.17*0.21 a.k.a. 3.7% of magnesium. In total, the effective bioavailable magnesium in buffered Magnesium Glycinate is therefore between 12.3-15.3%. Why are the brands misleading you? Why is this not called out? Well, probably because they can get away with selling buffered Magnesium Glycinate under the guise of Magnesium Glycinate since the names are similar. But to be 22% on paper (with less than 15% bioavailability), it has to be buffered Magnesium Glycinate and in no way pure Magnesium Glycinate. What are my alternatives? I don't know. May be MgGly powders (Trexgenics, iThrive, Doctor's Best, Nutrija?). [Edit] MgGly powders from manufacturers on Indiamart. I am adding this based on feedback. These are about 4x cheaper than, e.g., Trexgenics. Personally, I am a bit skeptical about these. They do provide certifications, but you have to trust them, and do check reviews of the manufacturer on Google. Take twice the dosage of what "22% MgGly" products claim. [Edit] A slightly more expensive option may be Mgd3: this one doesn't mention the mass of MgGly in it, but says it's equivalent to 250 mg elemental Mg. Again, you have to trust them on this. Why am I writing this? Because this is a very simple and yet very crucial calculation that I never thought of until I saw u/iamsorryy's post and everyone considering Mg supplementation needs to know this. Thanks to them for highlighting this. [1] You get this by solving x+y=1, 0.14*x+0.6*y=0.22 where x is the fraction of MgGly. submitted by /u/dan6545 to r/Fitness_India [link] [comments]

Magnesium Glycinate was the worst thing ever.
Hello!! I stumbled upon this subreddit and found that everyone SWEARS by magnesium glycinate. They said it helps their muscles relax, sleep, cognitive function, etc. like a silver bullet. So I bit the…bullet…and bought some mg glycinate and took it an hour before bed. Not 30 minutes later, my heart rate started going up. Strange. Went to sleep…then woke up at 4:00 AM. Tossing and turning. Hot as hell. Not a fever, but clearly lots of anxiety. Could not sleep whatsoever. It’s now the late morning and I’m finally losing the effects of it and going back to normal. To make sure this wasn’t a fluke I did this again a week apart and the same thing happened. I don’t know why. EDIT: Woah, okay this post blew up! Everyone who's new to supplements--never take them with no one else in the house or before something important. And don't take the full dose at once, go half and ramp it up to the recommended. It should go without saying but you never, ever know how your body will react so just putting that out there! submitted by /u/NouvelErmitage to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Magnesium Glycinate
Hi all. I’m a frequent reader/lurker but this is my first post. About 6 weeks ago I was searching the group for information on magnesium. I read several posts about individuals who found that magnesium Glycinate made their symptoms worse. I started with pretty significant HI issues in September. I tracked it back and it was around that time that I began taking Magnesium Glycinate. So, I stopped it immediately. Flash forward about 6 weeks and my symptoms have improved about 75%. I no longer have to take DAO. Just a bit of high potency Vit C (powder) and watching my diet (although I can and do eat some traditional high histamine foods) and I’m feeling SO MUCH better. I thought it was important to share this in case it helps someone else. submitted by /u/veglvr to r/HistamineIntolerance [link] [comments]

Is Magnesium really worth it? Glycinate or Threonate for a beginner?
I have never been the type of person to do supplements, a lot of them at that, but from everything I have read and the little research I have done everyone, and I literally mean everything is saying how much magnesium is good for you and its something everyone should be doing, so I figured if I'm not going to be doing a bunch of supplements but there is 1 that can really help and overall improve my life I might as well try and do it, so if there was a supplement to help and for me to try and do I figured it would be magnesium I'm a 21 year old male, I would say I have a relatively good lifestyle, workout 3 times a week, I try to play sports at least once a week, I will say my diet is pretty bad, I eat healthy foods and fast foods at about a 50/50 split, I don't really sleep to well which is something that I've seen people say magnesium helps with as well just overall function So my question is, is it true, is magnesium really worth it to try? From everything ive read the best form is Glycinate or even threonate but im not to sure on that one, is that also true or are there others to do? What is the best brand, bank for your buck wise, I've seen good things about Soloray, each serving is 350mg of it, is that to much to start, am I going to have any side effects, what does it really do and help with My local Meijer has there store brand Magnesium Glycinate and it looks like it doesn't have a bunch of random additives, it has (The capsule, Vegetable Magnesium Glycinate, Silica, Rice Powder), would that be a good option, or should I go for a more premium option, I wouldn't want one with a bunch of unnecessary additives and the store brand seems like a decent option, is that true or should I opt more into like Soloray as I mentioned earlier If there is anything else I should know, or any other suggestions on other supplements even, or anything of that nature please let me know! submitted by /u/_questionare_ to r/Supplements [link] [comments]
