Talladega Nights is pure cinema masquerading as toilet humor
Just watched it for the fourth time and it's amazing. I watch it every few years and pick up more depths of the comedy and plot the more I watch it. it was so ahead of it's time. it's a brilliant take on the absurdities of American culture (particularly southern/conservative culture), but on the surface it just looks like crude humor. In that respect it's similar to works like South Park and Borat 2. The fact that the jokes are piss your pants funny is just the icing on top. submitted by /u/LightcraftStudio to r/movies [link] [comments]

What's MASQUERADE like these days??
I just read today's lengthy (and interesting) interview with Telly Leung on broadwayworld.com and it got me thinking: Do people still dress up for Masquerade? I remember all the hullabaloo when it started about having to wear formal dress and buy masks and all that. Now that it's been running awhile, is that still true? Has anybody seen it lately? So if say, tourists walk up and buy tickets at the box office or TKTS for a show that day, they have to go somewhere and buy formal clothing and a mask before they head over to the theatre? With 360 or so audience members per performance, I can't believe all of them are fancy dressed and not in street clothes. What's the story, morning glory?? submitted by /u/Music-Lover-3481 to r/Broadway [link] [comments]

Masquerade- is it worth it??
My sister is coming to visit me in February and we’re really considering seeing Masquerade! The only thing is we usually rush or get discount tickets (roughly $50-60 per show), so given the price of Masquerade ($195 each base price) it may be the only show we can afford to see for the long weekend she’s here (in addition to The Sleeping Beauty at the NYCB which we already got $54 tickets for). So… is it really worth it? If you’ve seen it please chime in and let me know if it’s worth splurging on! We both love Phantom of the Opera already :) submitted by /u/zuperstar2 to r/Broadway [link] [comments]

Decanting is consumption masquerading as cleaning and it is absolutely shit
Is it just me or is this decanting trend completely brain dead? People are spending hundreds of dollars on clear acrylic bins just to pour cereal and other food from one box into another. It makes zero fucking sense. You're buying a piece of plastic just to hold food that was already packaged, then throwing away the box that actually had the expiration date on it. Feels like when VPN companies don't give you all the features you asked for. Now you have double the waste just so your cupboard looks nice for a ten-second video. You're just buying expensive plastic trash to hold your other trash which is so stupid. Thoughts on this? submitted by /u/N3DSdude to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

What I wish I knew before attending Masquerade NYC
I was lucky enough to attend Masquerade in NYC this weekend. It was a MAGICAL experience! I am going to explain what I wish I knew without giving away big spoilers. Overall I highly recommend this show for any Phantom fan and anyone who loves theater. You can see this show a few times and experience it differently each time. Things I wish I knew before attending Masquerade in NYC. Masquerade is an immersive retelling of Phantom of The Opera. It is 2 hours with no intermission. You will move throughout a building as the show unfolds. This story is slightly different from the proscenium and film versions of Phantom of the Opera. With new scenes and a new song. It's more about seeing the story from a new perspective than changing the story itself. The story is for the most part the same. If you have never seen Phantom, only watch the film or proscenium show before attending Masquerade if you want to fully understand the story. If you have never seen Phantom but are still going to Masquerade, you will still throughly enjoy it on its own. Masquerade puts you IN the story where as the proscenium show or film TELLS the story. There are 6 shows a night/afternoon, each 15 minutes apart. Each show gets its own principle roles that will follow your group of 60 audience members for the whole show. That means 6 principle casts going on simultaneously. Some cast members will perform to all 6 groups where as some perform to your group only. You must be there atleast 10 minutes early. The time you selected is the time you need to be done with check in and waiting to be let into the first room. If you miss your time slot, you will be bumped to the next one, if there is availablity. If not, you may have to reschedule. There are no tickets. Your name will be put on a list under your time slot and you will be given a password. When you arrive, someone will ask for the name the tickets are under, time slot, guest count, and password. No photography is allowed. They will put Chandelier stickers over your phone camera and encourage you to coat check it. However, you are welcome to keep it with you. The event is formal attire of Black, White, or Silver. You are asked to bring a mask, but a Phantom branded one will be provided to you if you dont. Phantom masks are not allowed. Nothing can light up. No heals are allowed as you move a lot. There is a coat check. There is a black tie standby line where you can get discounted day of tickets. You must arrive 30 minutes before the first time slot begins and dress the part. It is based on availability so you may or may not get in. It can get chilly in winter. Bring a layer into the show. Some spaces are outside (weather depending) and you can feel the cool air depending on where you are in the building. I was never too hot, but did get a little chilly here and there. There is a coat check available. I had a big winter coat outside, then wore a formal tailcoat in the show. There are no bathroom breaks during the 2 hour show. You can request to be escorted to the bathroom, but you WILL miss parts of the show. The actors may touch you. There are lots of scenes where you may get the chance to interact 1 on 1 with the cast. I personally interacted with 6+ different cast members. Some principle roles and some side characters. However, I was seeking interacts. You could probably be a wall flower and avoid interactions if you really wanted to. Some rooms are very intimate and the show is designed around audience involvement. You will be handed props throughout the show. Some you can keep, some you must give back. The only two examples I will give: A glass of champagne for consumption before the Auction scene and a glowing battery candle during the Phantom's Lair. You are given the candle before you descend into the lair and they collect it after the scene. The other items in the show will be left a secret in this post. There are quite a few interacts ranging from props, to costumes, to characters. You move a lot. You will do everything from walking, to climbing stairs, and riding some escalators. All surfaces are smooth hard floors, but the rooms can get kind of dark. Some rooms you sit, some you stand. Typically you will spend 5-15 minutes in each room. You will see the show from different angles as you move room to room. Sometimes I was sitting or standing in the back of the space, sometimes I was right up front. There are lots of chances to get up close or to keep your distance. The environment is constantly changing. So if you find you can hardly see in one room, dont fret, the next room you may be in the front row and get a cast interaction. Stay VERY close to your group if you dont want to get separated. There are a few rooms too small for the whole group of 60 audience members, so at times you will get split up. You will all see the same scenes and eventually make it back together. Several times I lost my group. Eventually I just accepted being split up and had way more fun. It was amusing to see members of my group across the room and experiencing different things. Or to talk about what we experienced differently after the show. Enjoy it while it lasts. The show moves fast and its easy to get swept up in everything. I found myself looking around at sets, props, costumes, lights, and side characters. I honestly was not paying much attention to the main show itself. If you are a die hard fan, make sure you really pay attention to your favorite scenes and songs. It took me till the next day to really process and fully appreciate all of the elements that went into this show When the show ends, you end up in the bar where you can buy drinks, merch, and take those masked selfies. This is where you will also receive your playbill. When you are ready to leave, the exit is near the bathrooms and escalator you entered the bar. Its hidden. This will take you back past coat check. There is a list of partnered restaurants and bars you get with your ticket. I went to a few and did not find any Masquerade specific items, but did find they were very conveniently located and very tasty. Overall I highly recommend Masquerade to anyone considering it. It is one of the most immersive shows I've ever seen. There is SO much I left out on purpose that you just have to experience for yourself. If you have any questions. Leave them in the comments. submitted by /u/Playful_Wallaby_3248 to r/MasqueradeNYC [link] [comments]

Please respect and follow the Masquerade dress code
Suffice to say Masquerade was amazing and I can’t explain more than other reviews already have. Amazing! But please, for the sake of everyone else’s experience, so your best to follow the dress code. I understand now why it is necessary — you are part of the show! In my pulse there was a guy with a Yankees baseball cap on that was just distracting and him being in the front of many scenes just took away from the experience. Another woman had a red sweater on so during many scenes it stood out too much. Those who have experienced Masquerade might know what I’m talking about. You don’t have to spend a lot to get a new outfit, just wear black/white/silver (or grey) to blend in and fit with the story submitted by /u/mkymouse73 to r/Broadway [link] [comments]

I thought I knew Phantom. Then I saw Masquerade. (Spoiler free rave)
I just saw Masquerade in New York and I’m still reeling. I’ve seen a lot of theatre, but this was something else entirely. It was bold, immersive, and completely unlike any Phantom experience I’ve had before. We were following the characters from room to room, breathless with anticipation about what was coming next, from the basement to the roof. If you get the chance: go. Don’t hesitate, don’t wait. This is the kind of show you’ll be talking about years from now. The only letdown? The merch table. No magnets, barely any variety, and the shirts stopped at a narrow size range. Honestly, how dare they rob me of the chance to give them $15 for a fridge magnet. submitted by /u/Ok_Interest1198 to r/Broadway [link] [comments]

I'm 24, and I feel like a child masquerading as an adult most days. I'm just wondering, when do most people start feeling like proper adults?
When I turned 18, I felt like I was finally ready to be an adult. I was excited, and I kept waiting and waiting for the moment when I finally felt like one. Years went by, and in my imagination, I thought there would be this huge moment where something changes within me, like there's some sort of explosion of enlightenment, and voila, I'm the adultest adult in the world. I thought that was how it was like for everyone, but um, I think there's been a massive malfunction because nothing of the sort seems to be happening to me. So, like, when am I gonna feel like an actual responsible, mature adult from within? You know, those confident, bold beings who know everything about everything, and can do all the adult stuff with ease? When's that gonna happen to me? Does anyone have any idea? Can any real adults explain how it happened to you? I still feel very immature, and half the time, I have no fucking clue what I'm doing. I still feel like a child in front of mature 30 year olds. Do I just kind of pretend like I'm an adult and carry on? Or is enlightenment gonna come eventually? I really hope it does. Edit: Damn, so everyone's just winging it. I've been fooled. submitted by /u/Lenore8264 to r/RandomThoughts [link] [comments]
