Occasionally, if you quit to the menu after pulling a capsule toy then load your save, it will consume the coin and you won't receive the figure. Very frustrating due to the finite nature of coins and the RNG nature of pulling. This is the version 3 of the Mahjong cookies. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I changed up the flour ratio of the top cookies, added a bit more cornstarch and milk powder. It stayed in shape a lot more, and the whole cookie just looked a bit more uniform. For the filling, I add a layer of jasmine cream cheese butter on top of the matcha cream cheese butter cream, and in between, it's still the deep, rich matcha ganesh. I really like the flavor profile of this combination. The jasmine really added a layer of refreshment to cut through the richness of the cookie. For the last post, a lot of people were interested in character writing and how I do it. After a bit of experimentation, I find the best way to do it is to press the cookie mold very, very lightly onto the cookie. You can see it in the last picture, that's how lightly you want it to be, because then it gives you a bit of a guideline to write on, but the indent is not deep enough that you have to fill it in, which is difficult to get it a clean look. After baking, when it's still a bit warm, not hot, I used a toothpick dipped into a matcha chocolate mixture to write the character on to the cookie. Okay, kinda a weird title. I see everyone on social media saying things like “here’s how to improve your matcha latte” or “stop buying low quality match!“ And it’s stupid. Low quality matcha is just fine. Japan is running out of matcha because tourists buy it for high quality matcha lattes. Just make your latte with low quality matcha. And the I see people using ceremonial grade matcha for lattes. Like??? it’s literally ceremonial grade because it’s meant for ceremonies. I can assure you that if most people want to actually try ceremonial Matcha they wouldn’t like it. It just pisses me off. ETA: I am japanese I said in a comment that you would boil water for the matcha, I kinda just ment warm up. Naturally, most people follow these guidelines because it’s what they’re taught. But here’s the issue: needing that much matcha for a single drink usually means you’re using the wrong grade of matcha. In my opinion, the widespread use of these high ratios, sometimes even multiple times a day, contributes significantly to the current matcha shortage. A 40g tin is intended to last about a month, not a single week. This practice isn’t sustainable, it’s irresponsible overconsumption. There’s a notable lack of awareness about the various matcha grades: baking grade, latte grade, usucha grade, and koicha grade. Many mistakenly assume baking or latte grade matcha equals “bad,” while usucha grade or koicha grade equals “better”. Consequently, people are using mid to high grade usucha and koicha grade matcha in lattes. However, these matcha grades are intended to be enjoyed with water. They have subtle, complex notes that become muted or even lost entirely in milk. This is why people often end up using 4g or more of high grade matcha in lattes, compensating for the loss of flavor with sheer quantity. But by doing so, they’re wasting matcha intended for a completely different drinking experience. I often see comments asking on videos recommending a 2g matcha latte ratio “how can you even taste the matcha?!” and the answer is simple: it’s all about using matcha suitable for the way you want to prepare it. Latte grade matcha is specifically blended to stand out through milk, with bold, robust flavors that don’t vanish even when combined with sweeteners. You genuinely only need 2-3g of proper latte grade matcha, not 4-6g or more! Tea vendors like MK and Ippodo explicitly highlight this information. For example, their website clearly recommends Wakatake, Aorashi, or Isuzu as being "highly recommended for making daily Matcha Latte" or "perfect for mixing with milk or cream", whereas all other matchas above isuzu are advised solely for traditional water based preparations. Hi everyone, I’ve been drinking matcha pretty regularly for about a year now. Lately, though, I keep seeing ads and social media posts claiming it has all these amazing health benefits, like: improved focus and memory faster weight loss stable energy without the crashes you get from coffee powerful antioxidants calming and stimulating effects at the same time detoxifying the body And honestly, I’m starting to wonder – is any of that really true? Because after a whole year of drinking it, I haven’t noticed any major difference. I don’t feel more focused or energized, I haven’t lost weight because of it, and to be honest, lately if I have a matcha in the afternoon, I still feel sleepy by like 7pm. And no, I’m not drinking cheap matcha – I drink high-quality matcha from Japan: Nakamura Tokichi, Marukyu Koyamaen, Ippodo, etc. I’m starting to think matcha might just be another well-marketed product with a lot of hype around it. I've been drinking matcha for quite a while now and it's been pretty much a staple in my everyday life despite the critiques of it being over-hyped, just for trends, and people's complaints of it being bitter or unpleasantly grassy. To people who are trying to get into matcha, here are my experiences of what to do and not to do: Don't buy cheap matcha: We all know that matcha so expensive, and some of these big bags of cheap matcha just look so good, but don't fall for it. How you can you tell the difference between high and low quality matcha: Low quality matcha usually is a yellower-browner color and the matcha doesn't smell as earthy and rich. Although it is true that ceremonial matcha is considered the highest quality grade of matcha, there is no official grading or regulating system for matcha and companies are free to label any quality of matcha ceremonial. Along with this, even though there is a difference in quality between different matchas, based on the harvesting and processing of the matcha, for at home drinking, it really doesn't make much difference between similar quality matchas. What milk to use: Between the different types of milk, I personally prefer some sort of cow milk. The different percentage of fat in your milk will affect the taste, texture, and froth of the matcha. Less fat will make the matcha less creamy and rich, but will produce better foam. 2% fat milk or whole milk is generally considered to be the best. For other types of milk, I prefer barista oat milk, which contains a higher amount of fat than normal oat milk. I find this to be creamier and also less watery tasting. However, the flavor of some milks can overpower your matcha and dilute the matcha taste.
