Any advice for beginners? (TLDR, starting because of heart problems but a lot of factors making it hard to actually try this diet)
F20 5’4 160lbs Thursday, I got my results back from a 35 day heart monitor (resting heart rate ranges from 36-189) and my primary care is leaning towards pots or sick sinus syndrome, but I’m waiting on a call from cardiology. The first step for either of those looks to be fixing your diet. Mediterranean seems compatible with both potential diagnoses, so I’m trying to start there. The issue is that I have really bad sensory issues with food. I don’t like fish or most vegetables, and the dining hall at my school is horribly unhealthy. There are rarely options that fit in with any diet really, but definitely not Mediterranean. I am also super broke and paying for college on my own, but my boyfriend’s family offered to help with getting groceries that fit in with the diet since it can get expensive. Any suggestions welcome, but I especially have questions about the following: - how to get protein on this diet as someone who hates fish - how do you figure out portions vs how hungry you feel? (I don’t have a scale or anything) - how do you stay motivated? I’m also dealing with depression, anxiety, and adhd, so I’m very worried about my ability to stay on top of this stuff - has anybody tried Hello Fresh, and is it actually worth it? - tips on meal planning (including prep and portioning) - any tips on implementing exercise? Online it says mixing exercise with this diet is best, but I have to go pretty easy with the heart problems. I’ll probably post over on one of the exercise subs soon for better advice but if you guys have any too that would be really appreciated. It’s frustrating because I was an athlete and high school and was planning on doing it in college too, but have so many limiting health problems. Beginner looking for easy yoga routines and Mediterranean meal ideas that dont get boring.
I'm 19F and I've been thinking a lot lately about getting healthier before anything gets out of hand. I'm not overweight at all right now but I just don't want to risk it later, you know how it creeps up sometimes. So I'm set on two things. Doing yoga literally every day (or at least trying super hard to) and switching over to a Mediterranean diet. The thing is I've never stuck to any exercise routine longer than like two weeks so I'm lowkey scared I'll quit yoga fast. Any beginners here who actually made it a habit? What YouTube channels do you swear by that are free and not overwhelming? Or apps? I need stuff that's like 10 to 20 minutes max at first because longer feels scary lol. And the diet part, I get the basics (tons of veggies, olive oil, fish, chicken, nuts, whole grains, fruit) but how do you even begin without hating it? Simple meals that don't take forever? What do you always keep in your fridge or pantry? How to not spend a fortune or eat the same thing every day? I've been on this diet for 6 months. Here's a list of meals I rotate through regularly.
Chicken recipes: stir fry with ground chicken (very similar to this recipe, but add more veggies, cut the sugar, and use chicken) sheet pan chicken meatballs sheet pan chicken thighs with veggies chicken shawarma plates chicken tacos turkey chili enchilada casserole with black beans (with chicken, optional) thai green curry with brown rice (with chicken, optional) Seafood recipes: baked salmon coconut green curry cod baja tilapia plates or tacos cod/tilapia/tuna salad with potatoes, red pepper, olives, artichoke hearts, and greens nola style saucy shrimp poké bowls shrimp tacos Vegetarian recipes: red beans and rice (omit the sausage, double the vegetables) harissa chickpeas with caramelized onions and greens creamy tomato white beans with arugula harissa eggplant, chickpeas, and tomatoes whole wheat flatbread pizza loaded sweet potatoes acorn squash stuffed with mushrooms, grain, veggies, cheese pumpkin black bean soup kale and white bean soup minestrone curried red lentils fried tofu zucchini/veggie fritters with yogurt sauce channa masala (curried chickpeas) roasted chickpea, broccoli, sweet potato, quinoa bowls bruschetta vegetarian tacos I've noticed some beginners posting on this sub about how to add variety or what recipes to make so I thought this list may be helpful. I'd love to hear what meals you rotate through! Please note that a few of these recipes may not exactly be MD complaint. Mediterranean diet cookbooks that are meant for beginners and simpler recipes/recipes for busy work weeks?
I have a few cookbooks that have recipes that could be considered Mediterranean but the ingredients lists are either way too long or it takes forever to make the meal. Mediterranean diet cookbooks for advanced chefs?
Hi there! High cholesterol runs in my family so my doctor has recommended I follow the Mediterranean diet / portfolio diet moving forward. Most cookbooks for this diet seem simpler and for beginner cooks, but I love to cook, and don’t shy away from involved meals, complicated techniques and lots of seasoning and flavor.
