I tracked every single one. Hours spent, money in, money out. No rounding up, no "potential revenue," just actual dollars that hit my bank account. Here's the honest breakdown. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME Dropshipping. Spent about $2,400 on ads and product testing over 4 months. Made $900 in revenue. Net loss of $1,500 not counting the 200+ hours. The margins are a lie unless you find a winning product fast and most people never do. Every guru showing Shopify dashboards is selling you the course, not the method. YouTube automation. Hired freelancers to make faceless videos. Spent $3,000 on editors and voiceover. Channel got monetized after 8 months. Monthly revenue settled at about $120. Would take 2 years to break even. Cancelled everything. Stock photography. Uploaded 300+ photos to multiple platforms over 6 months. Total earnings after a year: $47. The math is obvious but most people still make generic stuff because it feels safer. Third, a platform with built in traffic. Etsy, Amazon, Gumroad. You don't need followers, you don't need ads, you don't need a personal brand. The platform brings the buyers. You just need to be there when they search. The biggest lie in the passive income space is that you need to "scale." You don't. Six products making $80 a month each is $480/month for basically zero ongoing work. That's not life changing money but it's real money that shows up every month without you doing anything. And you can build that in a few weekends if you pick the right niches. Stop trying to build the next big thing. Find 5 specific problems that specific people have and make a simple structured product that solves each one. That's it. That's the whole strategy. I’m asking this with a mix of mild irritation and legit curiosity. Because at this point, what the fuck could actually hurt Pokemon? We’ve now seen, repeatedly, that new mainline releases will sell millions within the first couple of weeks regardless of middling reviews or obvious technical shortcomings. Performance issues or visuals that look generations behind or whatever, it just doesn’t seem to matter in terms of sales momentum. Then this week’s discourse has really hammered it home for me. Nintendo is re-releasing what are, by all accounts, straight GBA ROMs of FireRed and LeafGreen. No remake treatment or meaningful enhancements. Just the same three-decade old games again for $20 each. And yes, it's been proven that these things are just the ROMs; when you boot them up it just loads directly into a GBA emulator. They are NOT native ports. And wouldn't ya know, the response has been loud, enthusiastic defence. People openly saying they’ll buy both without hesitation, pushing back aggressively on anyone who questions the value proposition of hawking ancient GBA ROMs without just putting them on the (already very expensive) Switch Online pass. Fans always do this with this IP, framing it like criticism itself is unreasonable when it comes to the series. I’m not even saying FireRed and LeafGreen aren’t good games. They are, obviously (though not even Kanto's best versions, fight me). But it feels like we’ve reached a point where: Reviews don’t matter Technical quality doesn’t matter Value for money doesn’t matter Lack of innovation doesn’t matter (they have been essentially reskinning the same gameplay formula and narrative structure since Gen 1, with only Legends Arceus really feeling like a shot in the arm). The brand alone carries everything. The name 'Pokemon' seems to short people's brains out and get them reaching for their wallet in a way few other series do. So I guess my question is: is Pokemon basically immune to the normal feedback loop that affects other game franchises? Most series, if they release technically rough entries or barebones rereleases, eventually see at least some commercial pushback. But Pokemon seems completely insulated from that. SO this technically started three days ago but the explosion happende today and i am currently sitting in my car outside my apartment because I don’t want to go inside yet my roommate forgets to send me his half of bills every single month. It’s always oops my bad I’ll get you Friday and then Friday becomes next week and then I’m basically floating 150 to 300 bucks until he feels like remembering. I’ve tried being chill about it. I’ve tried reminders. I’ve tried a shared spreadsheet. Nothing sticks. Anyway this week he asks if I can drive us to a concert because his car is “acting weird.” I already know what that means. It means empty tank and a mysterious dashboard light he’s ignoring. I say sure but you’re covering gas. He says obviously. We drive 45 minutes. Park. Have a good time. He buys $60 merch but whatever that’s his money I guess. On the way home I glance at the fuel gauge and yeah I’m lower than I thought. I pull into a gas station and say hey can you tap your card. Here is where I messed up.Instead of just paying and arguing later like a normal person I decided to “teach him a lesson.” I say okay cool and I get back on the highway without filling up. I wanted to make this post after all the hype and money/ profiting off his death subsided. A lot of people took sides because his death was pretty dramatic, sure, but if you've actively interacted with his family you'd know that he was legitimately not a good father. And it pisses me off personally to see how much the family profited off his death. Huge rant incoming: Dude's family is actively rotten to the core and Kirk played a huge part in it. My best friend was a caregiver in Arizona and met Kirk's family through the mother in law. She can tell you for a fact that he was barely home which shouldn't surprise anyone. The kids barely got to know their dad, the whole reason they've been in the spotlight of Turning Point USA post shooting but you've literally never heard of them beforehand is so they could make money off merch. Kirk wasn't a family man because he spent all his time traveling and rage baiting college students, my friend/ caregiver literally never met him personally because Kirk was never home and was constantly 'on business.' But he LITERALLY DIDN'T NEED TO. He could have just ran his dumb podcast from home perfectly fine but he could barely tolerate his trophy wife and mother in law. Speaking of which my friend wishes she was joking. The mother in law in specific was quite literally the rudest person you can imagine, he hasn't met a more nasty person since. Her name is Lori Frantzve if you want to look her up, you'll get Erika's Kirk's maiden name. My friend stopped taking care of Lori because her husband was seriously creepy, like he walked in on her while she was using the bathroom when the door was locked and he KNEW she was using the bathroom. My friend was too scared to keep working there after that incident and quit for her own safety. They had three super crusty dogs that they treated horribly. They'd constantly yell at them and when they didn't feel like dealing with them, they'd throw them outside in the Arizona heat to limp in the shade which only added to the WORST smell imaginable. They'd just tie them up with no water for the entire day until someone felt bothered to bring them in. For some reason the mother in law was hyper obsessed with Charlie's podcast, she would watch him every day at 11 AM and regurgitate the worst parts of it like it was the Bible. My friend visited their apartment only once when Lori was visiting Erika and the ENTIRE PLACE looked like it was hit by a tornado. Unopened Amazon packages everywhere and children drew with crayons all over the wall because no one was taking care of them and Charlie wasn't home to be an actual father and tell them what's right and what's wrong. Erika expected my friend to take care of her baby, but my friend kept having to shut her down and say she's there to take care of Lori and has no idea how to take care of a baby. Their family was as dysfunctional and horrible as you can imagine. She didn't actually sign any NDA so she doesn't GAF and will throw shit their way whenever she gets the chance. Thread Not really a fan of Caleb slowly grifting to the right Caleb has undoubtedly helped many people get their finances together, and his show format helped bring attention to the poor financial decisions, and helped teach people financial responsibility. Love that, and I still enjoy his show. But on twitter Caleb is clearly soft-launching a rightward grift that's just so inauthentic in my opinion. What do you guys think of it all? I think the he has fair criticisms of the left, or extreme left… but one of the more recent episodes where the lady was overtly racist and he just chuckled through it all was a big tell for me. Everyone did not like that lol. At what point are they just rubbing it in our faces? It has been a decade since the mainline games have gotten something of substance. At this point our best hopes have been a Fallout 3 remake/remaster. They can’t even deliver that much. That is just sad to me. Our biggest hope as fans was just a remake of something. We should have had a new game by now and possibly two. Instead they just repeatedly ask for money on things most of us already own or generic trinkets and merch. A bit of context - early last month my girlfriend switched jobs and was unemployed for about 2.5 weeks. During that time, we talked about how we would handle the mortgage & bills - I would cover her half for September ($600), so long as she could pay back that $600 by the end of October. Instead of covering my part this month, she is short on rent again. She gave me what she could, but now owes me $800. Yesterday, she excitedly showed me her new, expensive Taylor swift merch (~$75) and I just couldn’t keep it together. Rather than going off on her, I got quiet and then tried to go sleep it off. But I still feel snubbed. I’m out $800, not really any room for luxuries right now. And yet, I think how this situation would have been so more palatable - If she just asked, I would have bought it myself and given it to her as a gift. Even if it meant having to make sacrifices of my own. It’s less about the money, and more about putting my partner before my own wants/needs. I feel like I do not get that in return. I fear that I have started a pattern by offering “rent forgiveness” last month, & I feel taken advantage of. Am I justified? How would you handle this situation? I have not shared my feelings with my gf yet, as I expect she has a clue, but I plan to talk about this at length with her when I get home today. EDIT: I have seen a lot of replies hung up on the specifics of our living expenses. To provide further context, we have lived together about 3 years in a condo. Renting. Last year, we got the chance to buy it from our landlord. The biggest reason she is not on any of the paperwork is because she did not contribute at all to our $40,000 down payment. That was our agreement - If I cover the entirety of the downpayment and do the legwork in the home buying process, she will contribute half of the monthly mortgage thereafter. Our mortgage alone is about $1200 a month. After all other home-related bills, utilities, HOA, etc, our monthly living expenses is about $1800. Her share of the monthly “rent,” as we call it, is $600, so about 1/3. I view this as fair, so does she. Perhaps what would be even more fair, is she explicitly covers the more external expenses like groceries or electricity. But for all intents and purposes, she covers 1/3 of our living expenses, trading the lost equity gains for housing at a substantially below-average rate. She understands that I am the only one building equity here, and trusts that I will use that equity for our long-term home in the future. Which I still have every intention of doing. UPDATE: We had a long talk about it today after I got home and took care of some housework. She refused to apologize, saying it is the one single “luxury” purchase she made for herself in the past month. I feel that. And she’s right, she’s hardly been able to treat herself to anything recently. But, and it’s a big but, to me that still doesn’t excuse making pleasure purchases when you can’t afford rent. I tried to explain that while I’m not mad at her, it concerns me about the future and I just want to make sure it’s not going to become a pattern. She feels like I’ve pointed a finger at her and told her she can’t buy herself nice things. I tried to explain that at any other time, that would be fine, and that she deserves to be happy and have nice things (another reason I wish she would have just asked first!) I said it would have made a great holiday gift. and I would have been happy to buy it and save it til then. This meant seemingly nothing. She said she was too hesitant to ask, in fear that I would have a bad reaction or say no. And yeah - I probably would have said no. But like, “No, you can’t afford this right now. But since you asked, and since Christmas is coming up…” We worked out a resolution so far as handling monthly bills better. I think part of the problem was thinking about it as her owing me money, when really it’s just bills that need to get paid. I can show forgiveness, but the bills will not. So our solution from here on out is she will pay the HOA dues and electricity bill, I will handle everything else. This way, there is no transfer of money between us. All we need to know is that the bills will get paid on time. This puts her just under $600 a month, which is fair enough for me. This works for her as it’s now in two separate, smaller chunks and she has the flexibility to be late on an electric bill if she has to. It works for me because I won’t need to come asking for money at the end of the month. However, I still feel unresolved. It was way too difficult to have that conversation. And something tells me she would do it again if given the opportunity - “I refuse to apologize for the one good thing I’ve allowed myself this whole month!” She assured me that outside of that, she’s been trying as hard as she can and that nearly every penny she makes is going back to me. She worries that now she’ll never be able to treat herself without feeling guilty about it. I tried to explain that it’s purely situational to owing money to more important things. As long as those things are already taken care of, there’s no need to worry! I don’t think this really clicked with her. Not long after that, she said she needed some time alone, to go cry and go think. Reluctantly, I gave her her space, and started to write this update while it is all still fresh in my mind. My thoughts: Maybe we really do just disagree on the principle, and that’s why we can’t seem to come to a happy resolution for the both of us. Everything she said was reassuring that we’re on the same team and she’s trying really hard to be on the same page financially. Just that it has not been easy recently. I told her I need to know that she will take things like rent just as seriously as I do, and that something like this won’t happen again.
