The old lady who was in front of me at the store check out thinks I found her lost money but I lied.
I was at the grocery store waiting in line for my turn to pay and there was an old woman in front of me. She took out her purse from her handbag to take out money, but it looked like she couldn't find it. She searched her handbag and pockets frantically and it clearly wasn't there. It must have been her last because she had tears in her eyes when she realized that she had really lost it. She said it was $20 and that she must have dropped it in the store because she went to the atm first and remembers still holding it in her hand when she first came in. She actually wanted to go look for it. I felt sorry for her so I pretended to find it on the floor but in reality, I just took out my own $20 when she wasn't looking. The look on her face when I 'found' it was worth it, she was so relieved, she gave me a hug which was nice of her. It's not like I'm in a financially stable position myself but it felt good to help someone who clearly really needed it. submitted by /u/Strong-Orange-3721 to r/confession [link] [comments]

Sometimes “old money” clients can say the most revealing things
More than 35 years ago I had a nice lady come to my law firm wanting to sue her next door neighbor. It seems he had built a back porch on his house that she could see from her house. I was a first year associate, and this rolled down to me. The porch violated restrictive covenants in the area, but there was no HOA. The covenants were the type enforced by any resident living in the neighborhood. High dollar homes, but not mega-high dollar homes. I talked to her about how long it would take and how much it would cost, and asked if the porch really bothered her. No, it didn’t, but it violated the covenants, and she took it on herself to defend those as a matter of principle. I knew enough, even as a first year, to recognize that “matters of principle” was a giant warning sign, so I way over-estimated what I thought the cost might be. She had no qualm about the estimate, and I knew she was good for it based on the word of the partner who did all of her other work. So I then launched into what the offending party might do - lots of things that would run up the cost. She quickly assured me he would do none of that. “How do you know that,” I asked. “Well, he would need to pay his lawyer to do all that, and I know he has no money,” she replied. “How do you know he has no money,” I had to know. “I know he doesn’t have any money because he works,” was all she said. She, of course, was right, we went forward, we won, and the sanctity of the covenants was preserved. It was a great situation for a rookie to learn how old money folks think. submitted by /u/TankSaladin to r/Lawyertalk [link] [comments]

I’m a 19 year old girl with too much money.
***EDIT: Jesus Christ this blew tf up!! Thank you for all the responses! I did purchase “Simple Path to Wealth” yesterday and I’m already 100 pages in, so thanks for that recommendation. I moved the 124k into a money market account at Fidelity so it’s now getting over 3% in interest. I’m going to move some into the S&P to even it to 100k for now. I’m probably going to move my 17k to a better HYSA at a different bank. My biggest takeaway from all this advice is to just invest it all and pretend it doesn’t exist. I’m going to go back to school for my bachelors and then masters to be a Nurse Practitioner (I’m in LPN school for anyone who was wondering). Im going to continue to try to cut back my monthly expenses, try to go to school for as cheap as I can, and get out off NJ lol. I won’t do anymore investing until I finish this book or until I learn more about different index funds. That’s it that’s all. Thank you!!! ********* My mom died about a year as a half ago and I got money from her life insurance and pension. Here’s the breakdown: 17k in HYSA - (I’m an unemployed student living off this money, so this goes down almost 3k a month. I finish school and will be working in 3 months though) 83k in S&P 500 through fidelity 124k in Prudential Alliance earning 1% yearly I have a paid off car, I payed off one of my school loans (I dropped out after she passed), and I have basically no debt. Once I start working, I’ll be making around 29-32 an hour. My main question is how can I use that 124k to diversify my investment portfolio, and eventually get rich (Godwilling). With this war, I’m starting to get worried about my S&P 500 investment and my future overall. I’m on my own with no parents to turn to for financial advice so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! submitted by /u/EvenMark6710 to r/Fire [link] [comments]

Dahil trending ang 2016 Throback: Wala ako pake kung out-of-touch, elitista, old money etc etc, sana pala eto nalang nanalo. The Aquino administration knew how to run a country.
Well, I’m only posting this because we live in a shitty timeline... Mar Roxas didn’t lose because he was uniquely evil, corrupt, or incompetent. He lost largely because he symbolized continuity, privilege, and technocracy in a country that was emotionally primed for rupture. His PR team tried to paper over that reality with forced “masa relatability,” and that was the real disaster. You don’t beat populism by cosplaying poverty. Andun na tayo na people disliked Roxas for being elitista, out of touch, and born rich. Fine. That sentiment exists. But much of that rejection was not policy-based or even performance-based—it was emotional, aesthetic, and symbolic. And into that vacuum stepped Duterte, who offered not solutions, but permission: permission to be angry, coarse, impatient, and violent in rhetoric. The kulambo + tuyo theatrics weren’t policy signals; they were identity signals. And yes, maraming nagpaloko doon, including me. Not because people are stupid, but because populism works by exploiting exhaustion. When institutions feel slow, people stop asking “what works?” and start asking “who feels real?” Here’s the uncomfortable part: competence does not require shared suffering to be valid. I don’t need a pilot who grew up poor, I need a pilot who knows how to land the plane. I don’t need a doctor who lived in a squatter area, I need the best doctor available. Politics is not a technical science, sure but governance contains technical decisions with real costs. Treating expertise as morally suspicious is how institutions go haywire. People say “politics is about optics.” Fine. So then , explain the optics ng pangulo na nagmumura, bastos bibig, minumura ang pope, hindi marunong mag suot ng barong, nilalagay yung paa sa lamesa? In Roxas' stead, we've got an uncouth president, PLUS his entitled family na ginawang gang-house ang Malacanyan. Roxas might have been an ineffective president. That is always possible. But that is a hypothetical risk. Duterte is no longer hypothetical. we have history. We have EJKs, institutional erosion, foreign policy incoherence and dynastic entitlement. When the choice is between a theoretical technocratic failure and a documented strongman disaster, I will take boring, predictable, and clinical every time. And no, this is not about wanting an “elitist savior.” I hope candidates are not forced to dance, sing, or do senseless shit at kung anu ano pang kaputanginahan na ginagawa sa entablado para makakuha ng votes. What I want, and yes, this is aspirational is candidates who can say: this is what I studied, this is what I’ve done, this is my platform, and this is why it will work. And a media ecosystem that treats ideas, incentives, and trade-offs as more important than personalities and viral moments. Populism thrives when we confuse arrogance with confidence and ignorance with authenticity. I choose boring governance over grandstanding theatrics any day. submitted by /u/Jazzlike-Perception7 to r/pinoy [link] [comments]

BIG Haul 1500$ Old Money
Hello, I just wanted to share my order with you. I would appreciate it if you could leave a comment about what you think of the items, whether there are any quality issues, and how close they are to the original. The RLX is from the VSF factory. I bought everything from Premium888 except for the two RLPH long sleeves, which I got from DB Made. I paid a total of about $1,500 for everything, including shipping. I'll link the shops on the left. Please understand that there are so many items that I can't find every link, so please go to the store yourself and search for them. You can find everything, or you can write to me in the comments and I'll link it for you. I've already washed everything and no item has lost its shape or shrunk. I'm very happy with the quality, so everything is really great for such a price. submitted by /u/Raymondtolate to r/FashionReps [link] [comments]

Old Money Haul + Fit pics (LP, BC, Ze)
Hi FashionRep community, I swear, I couldn’t wait to get this haul in my hands. As soon as I received it from Aristide, I immediately started taking photos and trying on every single piece. The service with Aristide was decent, good communication, fairly quick, and the direct shipping to Europe took 11 days. My stats: • Height: 175 cm • Weight: 65 kg I chose size M for all items (the smallest available). They all fit good, you can see from the fit pics. This is my first time buying clothing like this, sweaters and other pieces, from these brands. I made sure the items weren’t fantasy pieces (and from what I could tell, Aristide’s products are all genuine, not fantasy). I have to say, the quality is phenomenal. Every item feels substantial, and the cashmere sweaters are incredibly soft and warm. All the sweaters have a dual zipper that moves smoothly, and all four pieces feature patterns and embroidery that seem very well made. The cotton and wool shirts are also super soft. Additionally, every piece has the brand’s labels and zippers. W2C: https://aristide.x.yupoo.com WA: +86 18008430453 submitted by /u/gabbo2004 to r/FashionReps [link] [comments]

[QC] Old Money Haul
I’ve been trying out the old money style and picked up a few pieces that felt good. These are the QC pics I got from the seller. Stitching and build quality seem solid. Prices are definitely on the higher end, but I don’t mind paying extra if the quality holds up. Has anyone bought from this seller before? Would love to hear your thoughts. Kyrie Irving rants about old players in the media: "They have lost their way. There are some former players that just chat shit, don't talk about anything and just hate on younger players. You see somebody you admire go on TV and say 'get over it because you make more money' I'm so sick of that"
