What’s one travel hack that saved you a LOT of money?
I’ve been trying to travel more on a tight budget lately, and I realized small hacks can make a huge difference. For me, one thing that helped was being flexible with travel dates. I once shifted my trip by just 2–3 days and ended up saving a big chunk on flights. It honestly surprised me how much prices can change in such a short time. But I feel like I’m still missing out on better strategies. I see people traveling way more often on similar budgets, so there must be smarter tricks out there. What’s one travel hack that saved you a lot of money? Something that actually made a noticeable difference, not just small savings. submitted by /u/SatisfactionFit8468 to r/ThePoorTraveler [link] [comments]

Anyone else leave money sitting in savings way too long?
For the longest time I just kept piling money into a regular savings account because it felt safe. No real plan, just figured at least I wasn’t spending it. Looking back now, I’m realizing it probably just sat there losing value while I kept telling myself I’d figure investing out later. I finally started putting some of it into the market recently, but part of me still hesitates every time I move money out of savings. It’s like my brain is wired to think I’m doing something risky even though I know doing nothing wasn’t exactly a great strategy either. How other people got past that mental block. Did you just ease into it slowly or was there a moment that made it click for you? submitted by /u/DT_Mortim to r/investingforbeginners [link] [comments]

What strategies do you use to save money when grocery shopping and meal prepping?
I (22 m) live with my brother (20 m) in Alberta. The rest of our immediate family lives out-of-Province. I make $25 / hr working 38+ hrs a week, and he makes $16 / hr working 8 - 30 hrs a week. I’m obviously the breadwinner out of us two, so I pay for the groceries, bills, etc. and he just E-transfers me his half of everything every two weeks when he gets paid. This system works for both of us because he makes significantly less than I do and I still get his half of the expenses back. When it comes to gas we always alternate who puts gas in the tank One thing I find that’s always eating into my budget is groceries. Rent, utilities, phone bill, and stuff like that are manageable ish but man groceries are like a huge shark bite out of my pocket. On Fri Apr 17, I went grocery shopping at Costco and Superstore for the next seven days and I have $37 left in my bank to spare until my payday on Fri Apr 23. All the other bills are paid. And he said he has gas till I get paid I always try to buy in bulk at Costco when possible. Yeah it’s sometimes more expensive at the register, but usually cheaper per 100 g or per 100 mL and it’s just me and him anyways so bulk items last us longer. I go to Superstore for other random stuff that we need. Dollarama can sometimes be a hit or miss depending on what I’m looking for. And I hit up Safeway very rarely unless I see some good deals that I can earn and redeem Scene+ Points on Costco: meat, eggs, cheese, coffee, snacks, bread, frozen food, bacon, laundry soap, etc Superstore: milk, seasoning, veggies, yogurt, sour cream, rice, olive oil, nuts, canned goods, seasoning, etc Dollarama: snacks, seasoning, cleaning supplies, etc Safeway: very rarely unless I see some good deals that I can earn and redeem Scene+ Points on I’m looking for anything. Advice, tips, tricks, you name it. What do you and your family do when grocery shopping to avoid waste and keep costs down? What does your meal prepping look like? What are your fave budget-friendly meals and where do you find these recipes? Anything helps! submitted by /u/romantic-theory to r/povertyfinancecanada [link] [comments]

How can people save money on groceries in Canada when the standard strategies don't seem to work anymore?
I feel like I've done the things you're supposed to do including discount stores when I can, price matching, store brand for most things, never going in without a list and the monthly grocery bill is still higher than it was a couple of years ago and I can't seem to bring it back down. It frustrates me because I can't tell how much of it is fixable through habits and just what things cost now in Canada. At some point you're squeezing a lemon that's already been squeezed. My coworker mentioned buying discounted grocery items as something worth looking into, and I've seen people mention different things for finding that kind of deal. I don't know much about how that works in practice though or how realistic it is for actually making a dent. I want to know how people here are approaching grocery costs, and not just trimming a few dollars but making a real difference in the monthly total. submitted by /u/Super_College100 to r/CanadaFinance [link] [comments]

How are you guys saving money in Dubai?
Hi everyone, I’m trying to understand how people are managing to save money in Dubai. My monthly salary is AED 8,500, and after covering all my personal expenses, I’m usually left with only AED 200–300 by the end of the month. I feel like I should be able to save more, but I’m not sure where I’m going wrong. For those in a similar salary range: How do you manage your expenses? What are your biggest cost-cutting strategies? Any tips for budgeting, saving, or increasing income here? Potential money saving strategy for self-pay
I do self-pay and my pharmacy is in my grocery store. I enter my grocery store rewards number every time I get my Zep. The rewards have been adding up. The local gas station chain reduces my per gallon price with my accumulated rewards. I haven’t done a deep dive into the numbers but saving on gas with those rewards is adding up. Just wanted to pass along a tip to others. submitted by /u/No-Effort5109 to r/Zepbound [link] [comments]

[Masterpost] Saving money on restaurants in NYC
Hi BWT, I’ve come across a lot of NYC specific apps and promos lately where you can save quite a bit of money on dining out in the city. Wanted to share the wealth because this city is expensive!!!! Note: I have codes to most of these apps for extra $ off, but Reddit doesn’t allow referral links to be posted so comment or DM me if you want!! Blackbird: I’ve just started using this one and it’s definitely VC backed because it’s the craziest deal I’ve seen. I used it for the first time last night and with a referral bonus and “challenge” in app, I now have $91 to use on my next affiliated restaurant visit!!!! They’re also currently running a challenge for a bonus $50 after your first spend. MealPal: classic subscription plan to save a bit of money if you get lunch out during the workweek. I’m not a picky eater, so it works for me and it pays for itself (I got the first month half off and now on the $89/month plan which gets you 8-12 meals). Nora Health: they offer cash back mainly at healthy fast casual places like ThisBowl, Pura Vida, Springbone, and Glaze. I go to all of those places a lot so it’s nice to get a few bucks back each time, and they send it right to you on Venmo. You just link your primary card and your Venmo, so it’s passive cash back! Claim: they do one promo for you every Thursday that gives you cash back via Venmo for spending at one of 3 options provided to you at a given time. I’ve gotten Blank Street, Bareburger, Glaze, Honeygrow, Chip City, Avo, and Spirals before. Wonder: it’s a VC-backed food hall that has locations all over the city, and they’re pretty aggressive in their customer acquisition strategy. Whether you want salads, Mexican, pizza, or BBQ, you can go in person or get it delivered. InKind: very similar to Blackbird in that you pay your bill via the app and the discounts are pretty crazy (starting at 20% off). Seated: I was actually banned from this one for accidentally uploading two of the same receipt lol, but it’s cash back at certain restaurants and when they “surge” it can be 20% back or more, and you redeem cash back for gift cards. I miss it Storytime: I haven’t been invited to join this one yet, but if anyone has a code or a way in please let me know! They partner with local businesses to give you gift cards or comped meals in exchange for an instagram story. Eligible only if you have over 2k instagram followers. Too Good To Go: they’re an environmentally focused app that focuses on saving restaurant food from the landfill. They offer these really cheap surprise bags for $5-8 at popular places like Eataly, Dig Inn, Ole & Steen, and more. Ritual: they cater towards the work in office crowd and give you rewards based on loyalty, and often offer promos to get more points that you can redeem in-app for dollars off your meals. The Infatuation / Chase Promo: if you’re a Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholder, they’re running a promo where if you go to one of their Link & Dine restaurants until October 16 and spend at least $150 in a sit-down visit, you get $75 back as a statement credit (one time only). I need to use it ASAP! Delivery app promos: I’ve found that BOGO offers that you can pick up are often the best at places like Lenwich. 50% off delivery when you’re splitting with another person or more can be worth it too. Restaurant / cafe apps: self-explanatory, but places will often give you a freebie or special offer just for signing up with them directly because they don’t need to lose a cut of the profits from any of the apps listed above. [Paul Joyce] “Saving pocket money” to ensure no change in FSG approach; £137m net spend since Arne Slot’s arrival; Why combined Isak and Wirtz cost currently stands at £51.25m; Three key contracts and a second club to sort out
Link: https://www.thetimes.com/sport/football/article/liverpool-transfers-alexander-isak-florian-wirtz-premier-league-fgtf203bv "£450m spent, £260m received — inside Liverpool’s transfer window" (Sub-heading: "How patience, planning and an ambitious plan to keep champions at top of English game culminated in record-breaking overhaul and a new-look outfit") Quote: "Slot’s confidence in his ability to coax improvement out of the players already in place meant hastily piecing together a transfer strategy made no sense. Federico Chiesa was the only permanent signing at £10million from Juventus after a deal for Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi collapsed. ... It was a plan designed with the intention of not making unnecessary mistakes. Instead, Liverpool “saved their pocket money”, according to one source, for something they really wanted...." "Well Wirtz the wait": First up, that one they really wanted was Bayer Leverkusen’s Wirtz. https://preview.redd.it/2lh8o4lfpiof1.png?width=744&format=png&auto=webp&s=b799c29dd4db07d1134a6fee96e1170f3b5a52ef submitted by /u/junglejimbo88 to r/LiverpoolFC [link] [comments]

Who’s actually saving HSA receipts for 40+ years? Strategies?
I’m in my mid 20s and have been maxing out my HSA since I first started working several years ago. (For complicated reasons I’m unable to get on my parents health plan) I’ve been to the doctor a few times since then and saved the receipts in a Google drive, but I’m planning on visiting again - which begged the question: Do people actually save qualified medical expense receipts for 40+ years, in order to pull that money out tax free? If so how do you organize that? Have you been paying out of pocket this entire time? Including when having kids (during pregnancy, toddlers, etc)? Or is it something that healthcare is probably going to be really expensive when you get older so that money will be used anyway? Not much resources online about this so I am curious about your thoughts. Any insight is appreciated! submitted by /u/BitterNecessary6068 to r/HENRYfinance [link] [comments]

What’s your best low-effort, high-impact frugal habit that saves you money every single month?
We often talk about budgeting apps and big saving strategies, but I'm curious about the small things people here do that consistently save money without needing a lot of effort. For example, I started unsubscribed from 3 auto-renewing OTT platforms I barely used. Would love to hear the community’s most underrated frugal habits, especially the ones that don’t feel like a huge sacrifice but make a real difference over time. submitted by /u/Broad-Research5220 to r/Frugal_Ind [link] [comments]

AITA for refusing to give money to my brother to save his daughter ?
I refused to give $100,000 to my brother to fund his legal custody battle. AITA for this ? My brother called out of the blue one day. We've been living in different countries for many years and we're often not in touch. He has been going through divorce and custody battle for a long time. The divorce is really ugly. Both he and his ex wife are extremely similar being stubborn, argumentative and always right. They are both ex-army. So my brother asks for $100,000. Specifically, it's for the newest set of lawyers quote to conduct a last all out custody battle. He explains it like a military strategy and explains it's a last stand and about showing strength. According to his new lawyers it is completely un-winnable, not recommended, a waste of time and he is better off accepting the hard truth and saving the money. I personally agree with the lawyers based on what I was told by my brother. Yet he insists it's the only thing left to do. He also said there is no way he could pay it back. My view was, if it's life or death then yes, but it's not, and it would only hurt everyone making this last stand. submitted by /u/Eva_and_Logan to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Being forced to offshore and affect 2 peoples jobs in the U.S. How do you deal with the guilt of being part of an offshoring strategy to save a multi-billion dollar corporation some money?
I work for a big tech company and have been asked to find cost savings by hiring qualified talent in India, and it turns out that I can save on departmental budgets by $35K - $175K USD, by hiring 4-6 people in India to replace two staff in the U.S. Based on this model, we will also be able to do more for less cost. I’ve also been told by my manager that new employees in India can be required to work some U.S. hours. As far as I know, my job is suggested to be safe as we have multiple employees on adjacent teams in India and my programs need U.S. support. Our leadership has been planning things with me into the future and want me to start on a few new programs. Working across the time zones will be tough and I can’t shake that it’s not morally right given the current state of things in the U.S with layoffs. Like I’m part of a problem. Any advice? Update April 2025: Had many difficult conversations and tried an offshore option that did not work out. They finally agree I can’t completely offshore the team. Thank you to everyone who commented, it really helped me find a balance on standing firm on my morals/beliefs while painting a business case that makes sense to them, while trying to find a solution that they could be more excited for. I also have been job searching and updating my resume just in case to be prepared. No layoffs on our core team yet but leadership constantly says “offshore” and how they want to reduce or move away from specific talent. It’s so toxic. We are just numbers to them. I read every comment, thank you so much all. submitted by /u/ellomygrace to r/Leadership [link] [comments]

How I saved 50% of my income in india without compromising on quality of life- Here’s my detailed strategy.
I’ve always thought saving a large portion of my income was impossible in India, especially with rising costs in cities. But over the past year, I’ve managed to save 50% of my salary without feeling like I’m missing out on anything. Here’s a breakdown of my strategy: 1. Tracking Every Rupee: I started by tracking every single expense, from chai to rent, using an app. This gave me a clear picture of where my money was going. 2. Smart Investments: I moved beyond just FDs and started SIPs in index funds and PPF. The compounding effect is real, and I’m already seeing the benefits. 3. Negotiating Everything: From rent to insurance premiums, I’ve learned that everything is negotiable. I even switched to a cheaper but faster internet plan after comparing options. 4. Cutting Down on Unnecessary Subscriptions: I did an audit of all my subscriptions and cut down on those that weren’t adding value. Goodbye, random OTT platforms! 5. Focusing on Health: Investing in my health through a good diet and exercise has cut down on medical expenses. Plus, it’s a long-term investment in myself. 6. Travel Hacks: I love traveling, but it can get expensive. I’ve mastered the art of budget travel within India using credit card points, off-season deals, and local stays. 7. Community Buying: I’ve joined local WhatsApp groups for bulk buying groceries and vegetables. The savings are significant, and the quality is often better than supermarket produce. 8. Setting Financial Goals: I set short-term and long-term financial goals. Knowing what I’m saving for keeps me motivated and disciplined. I’m sharing this not to brag, but because I think if I can do it, others can too. I’d love to hear your thoughts and any additional tips you might have. Let’s help each other achieve financial independence in India!” submitted by /u/Business_bulletin to r/personalfinanceindia [link] [comments]

Fabrizio Romano: Fair to say Arsenal strategy has been smart. They wanted Vlahović in Jan, it collapsed - had chance to sign 5/6 strikers offered but Edu and Arteta only wanted Gabriel Jesus. ⚪️🔴 #AFC Decision was to wait, save money and put efforts on GJ for June. £45m fee - seems worth it!

IAmA guy that's eaten thousands of meals over seven years at Six Flags using their Season Dining Pass to save money, AMA!
Hey everyone! I'm Dylan, and every year I purchase Six Flags' $150 Dining Pass, which allows two meals, a snack, unlimited drinks, entry, and free parking every day. After just seven years of meals at the theme park, I was able to save enough money to pay down my student loans, get married, and buy a house. At least, it was one of my strategies in financial security which allowed me to achieve those goals. I recently did an interview with MEL Magazine where you can see pictures of the many meals I've eaten many, many times. With the peak of theme park season around the corner, I'm here to answer your questions about eating every meal at Six Flags, money-saving tips, theme park food, coasters, and anything else! PROOF Edit: Here's today's lunch: Lettuce with grilled cilantro lime chicken, and corn salsa as the dressing. Edit 2: It's been fun folks, thanks for all the questions! I may swing back later to answer more! Edit 3: Ok so I'm a daily active reddit user and I'm never truly gone. I'll just keep occasionally answering questions until this post disappears into the bowels of reddit. submitted by /u/Xope_Poquar to r/IAmA [link] [comments]

A story about the Dot Com bubble, some profit taking, exit strategies and money vs capital
Bot hates me so here is a link In the late 90's we had a similar Tech/Digital stock rally (this is not nearly as bad though, so chill, companies are actually destroying the estimates and profits are strong). Back then it was web page development and internet providers, now it's mainly electric vehicles and some parts of tech. “St0nks” were only going up, up and up. You heard things like - Dude, its a new economy, this is the new normal. This is the future, you can't use old models to define value. Die all boomers and burn traditional stocks (ok I might be exaggerating on this one). Anyway, I was a finance major at a prominent university in London, UK. I was destined for greatness and a trainee spot at Deutsche Bank's analyst desk. My friend - let's call him Eli, because his name was actually Eli - was a stock genius. Everybody is a genious in a bull market, you put some money in to a company in IT and BAM, the new Buffett (or Cathie). Eli was good for about 350kUSD at one point, not bad for a student. Or I should say, 350kUSD nominal value in stocks. Because, its not money until you sell. Eli learned the hard way. The "dip" came. Eli figured "st0nks only go up" - I'm gonna "buy the dip". The dip became a slide, then a vortex and finally evolving in to a capital sucking black hole (not an anus ok). Eli bought and bought, he also had a debt position of about 25% of his portfolio. This increased to 50%. The bank called, Hey Eli - that collateral isn't so hot anymore, pay up dude. Eli paid up. One year later he had -13kUSD on his account for accrued interest rates and trading fees. So what's there to learn. Well, depends on how risk averse you are, but I see a lot of new investors that ask about when and how to take home profits. There is no rule or best practice, but here's at least an strategy that I'm using myself. I usually don't let a stock grow beyond 20% of my portolio, if it does I start scaling back profits and weight to other, new opportunities. The riskier the stock the earlier and more I scale back. Compound that interest, bitch. I always keep a 10-15% cash position so I can take advantage on dips or other opportunities. This capital has had a ridiculous payback over the years. This is not money, this is capital. I have a savings account with 3 months salary. That’s money. Money pays bills, capital grows. For every 20% growth I take home for example 20% of the profit in riskier playa. So in G-ME for example I started buying early and by $90 I only had profits invested. By 300 I had sold about 2/3 and on the way down I dropped the last stocks at 115. So let’s say a stock grows from 100 to 120. I take back 4. Then it goes to 140, I take back another 8 so now I have taken 12 total. Obviously there is some flexibility here, but use it for inspiration. For more secure stocks you want to hold on more and longer, but for me it’s a lot about maintaining that cash position. So what do I do with my profits? Well, I do a few things. I reinvest them in to other stocks, so I make sure I have a short list of alternatives at all times. For example, my G-ME winnings (yes it was a casino) paid for 300 PayPal stocks at $231. They’re now up 15%. Compound that interest, bitch. I put them in the cash position so I can be opportunistic (but still max 15%). Life saver in March, pure rocket fuel baby. I buy my wife or kids presents, I get a nice Rolex or refurbish the house. I turn it in to money. I have money so I can spend it, use it. Moral of the story or TLDR; Make money, you probably won't see another opportunity like the one of the past 6-10 months. Its not coming back for a while. Don't step out of the market, pick your stocks wisely, keep some cash to pounce on some disappointing earning calls or dips and remember: IT IS NOT MONEY UNTIL YOU SELL. Disclaimer 2: I was a licensed financial advisor as in a securities analyst, but do your own research. This is not advice, it’s inspiration. PS Eli went on to be a very successful entrepreneur and has started a few companies. I believe one of them is going to IPO soon DS Edit: clarified advisor part Edit 2: this completely blew up, thanks for all the awards and upvotes but spend the money on stocks instead! submitted by /u/mcjanzton to r/investing [link] [comments]

You can lose money by "saving" money, even in a recession - lesson learned the hard way (math / numbers inside)
tl;dr - by being too scared to invest during an economic downturn, I cost myself $235,000 in retirement savings. Time-wise, this is not my exact situation, but it is extremely close. I've actually bumped it back two years to make it even worse, which should only go to prove my point. I started working in a career that allowed me to save money right around the time of the last major recession. Due to the economic climate, I saved all of my money. I didn't invest it. I just saved it at the bank. Realistically speaking, I could have invested $5,000 a year and still had enough savings to be safe in case of emergency. But I was too scared to do so. Because of that, over 10 years I ended up with $50,000 in the bank (plus a rather negligible amount in interest). But what if I had been putting $5000 a year, on January 2, into a Vanguard Target 2045 retirement account? Percentages for below are taken from the total return column on the fund's page. Starting in 2008, that $5,000 would have been down to $3244.50. Ouch, right? -35.11% return. But keep doing the math. Add another $5,000 for the next January 2, 2009 deposit, then add 28.67% to account for the 2009 total return. Add another $5000 for January 2010, increase the new amount by 15.33% for that year's return, and so on and so forth. The result? After ten years of investing, that would have left me at about $91,000. Already $41,000 ahead of my non-investment "strategy". Now, let's make it even more painful. Let's look at how this works out down the road. With my $50,000 deposited today, untouched for 30 years at 6% growth, it would grow to about $287,000 in 2048. But with $91,000, it would grow to over $522,000 in that same time. Moral of the story: even when things aren't looking great, if you can afford to invest some of your money, you really should do it. Don't leave yourself without an emergency fund. Don't live outside of your means. But if you are fortunate enough to have income left over to save and you've got decades to go before retiring, put that money to work for you even if the short term looks scary! edit: fixed a huge typo - corrected to "don't leave yourself without an emergency fund". Hopefully people knew what I was trying to say. submitted by /u/HereForTheDucks to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
