What are you doing to save money in this economy?
As costs are going higher, I am continually thinking of ways to counter act this. I am constantly adjusting the thermostat depending on whether I get too cool. Hot already in New Orleans. I am getting better at watching my grocery receipts as I was charged for two items at Walmart but only purchased one. Also, I am trying to use washable containers to store food in the freezer instead of buying freezer bags and utilizing or freezing any leftovers. Food combinations may get interesting. Omelets are a great way of incorporating leftovers. In addition, I have taken up pants and blue jeans as I have been losing weight instead of buying new ones. Also, I try to repair most things if it can be glued or sewn like my under bed fabric storage containers. What are some ways that you are trying to do to combat this economy? submitted by /u/melissaw328 to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

What are the things you do to save the most money?
My family is needing to cut down on spending in the near future. There are a few things we will not skimp on such as organic grass fed milk for our son, certain organic purchases on fruits, veggies and nuts, etc. we’re considering switching to cloth diapers because we currently have 2 under 2 in diapers, and it’s extremely expensive. We also mainly eat vegetarian, and buy things on sale often. I’m just wondering what other people do to save the most money! I guess I’m looking for ideas to trim our budget! Edit: Thank you for all the responses so far! I just want to clarify a couple of things. 1) I should have said our family would like to cut down on spending not needing to. We’d like to have some more wiggle room in our budget. 2) I have a budget, but I wasn’t wanting help with trimming my budget in the way of posting it and having people tell me where I can save. I can definitely do that. I also think it’s ultimately not the best way to go about it because I know what I’m not willing to spend less on, and someone else might feel it’s unnecessary spending (like our organic purchases). I was more so asking to see what other people have done to save money to see if there are any odd things I haven’t thought about. For example, several people mentioned about phone plans and switching to Mint Mobile. I’ve already switched to Visible, but that wouldn’t have been something I thought about on my own, my very frugal friend told me about it. Just looking for things like that! submitted by /u/pi_inthepan to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

Vegas was promised ‘No Tax on Tips’… not a win, just less money for us. Now you know.
I’ll break it down for you. For a single Vegas worker… * If you’re making under ~$15,000–$18,000/year, you likely owe little to no federal tax → no real benefit * Around $20,000–$50,000/year, you start owing some tax → small benefit * $50,000+, you’d see more noticeable savings (depending on tips) If you’re not paying much in taxes already, “No Tax on Tips” doesn’t put more money in your pocket. Now add real life: *Inflation is already costing households about $800–$1,000 more per year *Tariffs can add roughly $1,200–$2,000 a year in higher costs (through more expensive goods) *Gas in Vegas is around $4–$5 per gallon, which adds up to $1,500–$2,500 a year just commuting How many people benefit? Let’s do the Math ~3–6 million tipped workers in the U.S. (~2% of workforce) ~97–98% of people get zero benefit ~37% of tipped workers already pay no federal tax → no benefit ~Only a portion of the 3–6M actually gain anything ~Overall impact: ~2–3% of households benefit at all • Biggest winners: higher-earning tipped workers • Lowest-income workers: little to no impact Bottom line: a small benefit for a very small group submitted by /u/Federal-Compote-5015 to r/vegaslocals [link] [comments]

What’s the most overrated "frugal tip" that didn’t actually save you money?
I see a lot of advice about extreme couponing, driving across town to save a tiny amount on gas or groceries, and spending hours chasing the absolute lowest price on everything. I tried doing some of that for a while, and it just wasn’t worth the time or mental energy. I’d spend 30–45 minutes planning to save a few dollars, while ignoring bigger expenses that actually moved the needle. Once I focused more on the big 3 (housing, food habits, and recurring subscriptions), my savings improved way more with less effort. Meal planning, reducing takeout, and canceling unused subscriptions saved me significantly more than optimizing every small purchase. Curious if anyone else has a frugal tip that sounded great in theory but ended up costing more time, stress, or even money in the long run? submitted by /u/Ewa_Star to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

What small habit has saved you the most money over time?
There are endless money saving tips online, but most only save a few dollars here and there. I am more interested in the habits that quietly made a big difference over years, not days. For me, cooking more at home consistently changed everything. It was not dramatic at first, but over time it really added up. ULPT: Save money on Lyft/Uber AND help the driver make more money
Let's say the ride is expected to be $50 pre-tip. In this situation, the driver would make less than $25 + whatever tip you give (say $10), so $35. When the driver arrives to pick you up, tell them you're willing to cancel the ride and pay them $40 in cash. You will be hit with a $5 cancellation fee on the app, but you'll still save money, and the driver will make more than they would have otherwise. Of course the downside is that you have to trust the driver to actually take you to your destination, and not get in an accident. So this is not something that I recommend every time. You have to make a judgment call based on vibe. disclaimer: for probably obvious safety reasons, I dont recommend this for single female riders with a male driver edit: to everyone saying "all this to save $5?", no you save more the longer the drive is, this was what you call "an example". Also, you're doing the driver a solid by helping them make more than they would have otherwise. edit: ITT-- Americans- "I would never do this you idiot" Others- "we do this constantly in my country" submitted by /u/bigatjoon to r/UnethicalLifeProTips [link] [comments]

IAmA guy that's eaten thousands of meals over seven years at Six Flags using their Season Dining Pass to save money, AMA!
Hey everyone! I'm Dylan, and every year I purchase Six Flags' $150 Dining Pass, which allows two meals, a snack, unlimited drinks, entry, and free parking every day. After just seven years of meals at the theme park, I was able to save enough money to pay down my student loans, get married, and buy a house. At least, it was one of my strategies in financial security which allowed me to achieve those goals. I recently did an interview with MEL Magazine where you can see pictures of the many meals I've eaten many, many times. With the peak of theme park season around the corner, I'm here to answer your questions about eating every meal at Six Flags, money-saving tips, theme park food, coasters, and anything else! PROOF Edit: Here's today's lunch: Lettuce with grilled cilantro lime chicken, and corn salsa as the dressing. Edit 2: It's been fun folks, thanks for all the questions! I may swing back later to answer more! Edit 3: Ok so I'm a daily active reddit user and I'm never truly gone. I'll just keep occasionally answering questions until this post disappears into the bowels of reddit. submitted by /u/Xope_Poquar to r/IAmA [link] [comments]
