I found this so hilariously difficult to read due to the formatting, which is not creative or compositionally, even aesthetically pleasing. It looks like someone just discovered MS Word and got carried away. The seemingly random narrow font, like emphasizing the wrong syllable of a sentence. My emotionally immature mom moved in with partner and 1 year ago after her last living situation with a friend fell through. Living with us was supposed to be a temporary arrangement until she found something else, but pretty quickly we recognized her assumed entitlement to our space, privacy, and income, and her complete lack of interest in lining up something else. I gave her an ultimatum in November that our lease would be up for renewal in May, and if she did not find a place before then, then my partner and I would move (forcing her to leave as well). I also stipulated that if she could line up a place to live, she could take the furniture in the room she used. After 7 months of looking forward to this day today where she moved out, I thought I would feel more relief - but today was mostly just sad. I spent 7 months hoping she’d wake up and try to do something to better her life and conditions - if not for herself, then for me, her daughter after I voiced significant discomfort in her defaulting to living with us. Seemingly most mothers who give a shit about their child would walk over hot coals to secure their wellbeing and happiness… but she actively made sure that she would end up in our house despite me voicing that this would ruin our relationship. This year showed me that she does not take care of herself, and she does not care for me and really hardly ever has. I think she has love for me, but she does not know me and has never tried to know or understand me. This year was completely numbing, invasive, and painful to live. She’s not abusive , she’s just dismissive, uncaring, unclean, and mostly pathetic to witness - made worse that I work from home so there was very little time apart since she never went anywhere or worked :/ I helped her pack her car today with most of the belongings of hers that we schlepped here a year ago. I did not know where she was going, and I did not ask. I released myself of that responsibility after my efforts last year failed in vain at her hand. There were no I love you’s spoken, no sorrys - just a thank you for loading the car. I don’t know if I expected more manipulation, any screaming or crying, tears… I don’t know… but it was quiet and quick that I may have seen my mom for the last time. I want happiness for her, but I want happiness for me too and I know my decisions are the only ones that can secure my happiness. Right now is hard/clouded by any reaches to find a reason to love my mother, but I’m mostly just excited to live in peace with my partner again, in a new space nonetheless. Served in the 4-cup Pyrex measuring cup that both the noodles and soup were cooked in. In the microwave, or course. Easy peasy cleanup. Yummo! --- Well that blew up! For the record... Yes, those are real ramen noodles. Either from cheap ramen packs, or from a bulk pack of plain ramen noodles. Bought from a real asian grocery from a real asian grocery store owner. No ramen noodle pack "seasoning", so not as much sodium as some infer. Still too much for frequent eating. So I don't. It takes awesome! Here's the "recipe": Open 2 cheap ramen packs. Throw away the seasonings. Boil 2 ramen bricks (blocks? nests?) until done to your likeness. Drain ramen, set aside. In same dish, make soup. Dump noodles in soup. Add Worcestershire sauce, pepper, or whatever seasonings you like. Eat half, then pass to the better half. Enjoy! 1 pot, 1 fork.
