I built a mobile app to track your nail polish collection & see dupes: LacquerStash
tl;dr - "LacquerStash" on AppStore / Google Play (I posted about this earlier on r/WeGotPolishAtHome and improved the app in this week's app update based on the feedback received, so it's now ready for its debut on this sub!) The screenshots on the AppStore/Google Play listings can clearly describe what the app has to offer but if any of the following resonates with you, I'm sure it'll be worth trying out LacquerStash: - "I don't know if or when I ever wore this polish" - “I have no easy way to keep notes on my collection” - "The tracking app I use already lacks a lot of features" - "I don't know how much money I'm spending on nail polish" - "Google Sheet isn't mobile friendly and it's hard to store pictures there" - “I sometimes buy dupes by mistake since I don't remember everything I own” - "Notion / Airtable are too complicated for me and don't have a db of all polishes" This app has been beta tested over 2 months by 50 members of this sub, with their feedback being continually implemented, so this is truly an app for Lacqueristas. That said, there's still a lot more that can and will be done, but based on the feedback received so far, I am confident about the value this app will provide to the community and proud of the work we’ve done together. Thoughts you might have at this point: "I'm not going to manually enter my collection of 100s of polishes!" And you don't have to! There's an "Import Your Stash" option in the app. All you need is a list of all your polishes (CSV, Google Sheet, etc.). "Is it free?" Yes. Though two features will get capped at a generous limit which is hopefully enough for you to decide if the app is worth your time or not. You can pay to remove those limits. (Also: No ads, even on the free tier!) "How is this different from Lacquergram?" Lacquergram is a great app! Its nail polish database, built over 7 years, is unmatched. You'll find every brand on earth there. I believe it's centered more around discovering new polishes and seeing swatches from others. LacquerStash is centered around YOU. Your collection, your manis, your usage and purchase history, your dupes. You also have access to a public database with 100 of the most popular brands (currently 17,000+ polishes, with more being added regularly), and you can still find inspiration via 'community manis'. Plus, there's a unique destash feature which I think you'll like a lot! I'm super open to feedback: I promise you'll be surprised by how quickly your feedback is addressed and how soon it gets shipped in future app updates! I'm so excited to see how this helps you all! :D iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lacquerstash/id6755608663 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rohantaneja.lacquerstash submitted by /u/tanejarohan to r/RedditLaqueristas [link] [comments]

Removing Nail Polish (fast n cheap)
EDIT: Thanks for everyone who's sharing tips! I'm learning a lot of alternatives from yall. Someone said this might be rage bait but I promise it's not. Haven't seen anyone else do something like this, so I wanted to share the fastest way I've found to remove nail polish. I keep old acetone in a small plastic container (HDPE so it doesn't melt) and use an old wooden toothbrush with nylon bristles to scrub nail polish off. Each finger takes about 20-30 seconds to clean, and I can finish both hands in 3-5 minutes. In this video, the acetone had already been used for 3 previous manicures, and I typically change it out every 4-5 manicures because I'd rather spend money on new polish than acetone. Works great for removing glitter. My week-old manicure: (3) layers Londontown Kur Fortifying Ridge Filler (3) layers some custom polish of eyeshadow mixed with Seche Clear (1) layer Seche Vite (1) layer Cirque Colors Haze Glaze Matte Top Coat Other tips: I work under the kitchen fume hood to keep the smell down. I keep 2 separate containers of acetone. One is for "clean-up" of edges with a make-up brush. The other one is for "removing/scrubbing." When the "scrubbing" acetone gets too saturated, I dump it out, and the "clean-up" bottle becomes the "scrubbing" bottle. And the empty bottle gets refilled with fresh acetone. Hope this is helpful! submitted by /u/ConfidentCourage8828 to r/RedditLaqueristas [link] [comments]

What nail polish remover should I use?
Hello all! I have had a problem with a few different polish removers so I am reaching out to see what you all use! I change my polish every few days, and the remover has really started to take a toll on my cuticles and the skin around my fingernails, despite constant oiling. I have tried pure acetone, which has the worst effect, and I have tried Cutex Nourishing, which is doing the same thing, but to a lesser degree. I really like Cutex, so I am willing to try other formulas, but if you all have different brands you recommend, I’d love to hear it! Traditional nail polish without chips after 15 days
I get my traditional nail polish to last two full weeks without chipping. Here are a few tips if you are interested... Nail health You need healthy nails for your polish to bond with the nails properly. Eat well, take vitamins, use cuticle oil and hand cream... Don't use your nails as tools. Prep your nails I prep my nails before manicure with cuticle remover, and gently remove all dead skin that prevents the nail polish from bonding with the nails. Buffing the nails a little bit before applying nail polish also helps - just remove shine, don't buff aggressively. Nail polish quality Good quality nail polish with base coat and top coat. No excuses. I like Essie, OPI and CND vinylux, they are a good value for money. Application Base coat on completely dry nails and then two thin layers of polish (three for some colors) and finally, top coat. I wait until each coat is dry before applying the next one. The application process lasts longer, but your nail polish will last way longer this way. Care Cuticle oil and hand cream at least two times a day. Use gloves for cleaning and doing the dishes. Wash your hands with gentle soap. I also find that an extra layer of top coat after 3 or 4 days prolongs the manicure. Enjoy! submitted by /u/Alsaflo to r/Nails [link] [comments]

How does ultraviolet light harden/dry gel nail polish?
I got my acrylic nails done yesterday. My tech uses “gel” nail polish in different colors, and also uses a thick clear gel as a glue for rhinestones and charms. The paint is applied, and after you stick your hand under a UV lamp for 45-60 seconds, it’s hard as a rock and completely dry. What is happening during that 1 minute “curing” process? Why does a higher UV wattage (160+) work faster? What is the difference with regular nail polish vs gel polish if acetone removes both (but they dry differently)? submitted by /u/Sobadatsnazzynames to r/askscience [link] [comments]

AITA for tagging the manicurist who did my nails on Instagram against her wishes and refusing to remove the tag/photo?
A week ago I decided to get my nails done after a long break. They were in a very poor state. The lady I frequented before moved cities, so I had to search for another manicurist. I found one on Instagram, she had a sizable following and good reviews. I texted her and set up an appointment. During the session she kept asking why I had to cut my nails so short (I cut them myself before the appointment to a desired length). I explained that this is the length I can handle in my daily life. She kept frowning a bit throughout the whole session, but overall was nice and attentive. I thought the session went well, my nails looked stunning, at least to me. I was very happy with the result. When I reached home I posted a picture of my nails on Insta. I tagged the manicurist’s page on the photo and mentioned her in the caption, thanking her for making my day. I also left a comment under the latest post on her page, praising her for her skills and attitude. A few hours later, I received a text from her in which she politely asked me to remove the tag or the picture from my page. I was confused, since I thought I did a kind thing, praising her work to my friends. Granted, I only have around 900 followers, but still. Those were my sincere feelings of joy and gratitude, so I asked her why she wanted that from me. She replied that she didn’t want too much attention to her page. I said that she shouldn’t worry, as I don’t have many followers, so it’s not like she’ll be overwhelmed by new customers. I said this in a light-hearted and joking manner. She noted that I have a few people among my followers who have a decent audience. Some of my friends are aspiring bloggers, but since they’re my friends I don’t really keep track of their number of followers or concern myself with their growing popularity. But even then, I still couldn’t understand why she found it problematic for my semi-popular friends to see her work. She angrily replied that she didn’t want people to see my butchered nails and associate them with her. I was shocked. I could never imagine that my nails looked bad, I really liked them! She retorted that any professional or even someone who visited nail salons often enough would notice that the amount of gel and nail polish she put on my nails was too much, making them look thick and clumpy. I asked why she didn’t mention this to me during the session and correct her mistake. She said my nails were “beyond saving”, especially with that length, so that was the best she could do to make them look half-decent. I said she could’ve at least mentioned it to me at the appointment and I won’t delete the tag or the photo from my Insta. She asked me to at least make my page private. I refused. Later I saw that she deleted my comment from her post. While I don’t feel guilty, I might be the asshole because she texted me again a day later, saying that my selfish actions made her lose clients and affected her ability to survive during the pandemic. EDIT: Oh man, I didn't expect this to get so many responses. Sorry that I couldn't reply to every single comment. Chores and errands got in the way. First of all, thank you for taking your time to read and give your judgements, whatever they were. They all helped me look at the situation from different perspectives, but after reading through most of the comments I'm standing firm on my decision to leave the post and the caption with her name up on my page. I know I can just remove it, but I think now it's a matter of principle. Had she told me during/right after the session smth like "Hey, sorry OP, I think I screwed up a bit here, usually I do a much better job" I would think "no problem" and never post it on social media because I would already know how she feels about her performance in my case. Here I was just blindsided. I admit it might have been already shitty of me to ask about the reasons for her request, but at the moment I was genuinely super confused, which led me to probe further to get rid of the confusion. As for posting the pics of my nails here, sorry, I'm afraid I can't do it, since they might help identify me or my Insta page. Just like some comments suggested, I was thinking about being petty and sharing the convo on my stories, but decided against it to keep my page peaceful and positive. I did share it in my friends' group chat: some of them were as confused as me, and others admitted that yeah, my nails didn't look their best, but they didn't tell me because I was so happy. Which made me even angrier at the manicurist lady lol. My friend group all collectively noted not to use her services in the future, but I don't think it was to the extent that could seriously affect her income. submitted by /u/handcream777 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Hands down, the best nail polish remover I’ve used... I usually use 100% acetone but that dries out my nails and my fingertips so much because I change my nail designs every other day. This is very gentle and smells really nice (smells like lavender to me)

By far the best nail polish remover I've ever purchased. It'll take off glitter in three swipes. And it's $1 :)
