I have had the Oura ring for about a year now and I noticed a decline in it’s functionality as it got older… Originally I LOVED my ring- the sleep, stress, and activity tracking were all convenient. I am currently at the 12 month mark, followed care instructions, cleaned my ring, charged when its green, soft reset, app updates, etc and suddenly my ring stops tracking my data and completely disconnects - as in it DIES and I am not able to see any of my data because it stops tracking throughout the day. Also, the battery life span is only 12-16 hours which I used to be able to use it for 8 days without needing to charge… After a year of use, I’m not sure if it’s worth $500 and the recurring subscription. Maybe wait until Oura gets their gear together and comes up with a tracking device that is actually built for longevity. It was nice while it lasted I guess.. Edit: I reached out to Oura and apparently there was an issue and they will provide a replacement. I will give another update after 12 months. tl;dr: unreliable batteries mean unreliable recording of data. I got my gen 4 oura ring in November 2024. Since then I've worn an Oura ring daily, though I am now on my 3rd unit (after two replacements from Oura). This week, I decided to stop caring, and take off the ring for good. The truth is that I'm not really the market I suppose: I'm a man, and I wear the ring primarily for sleep tracking- at which it is great when it works. But that's kind of the issue. With this second replacement, I already see the new unit beginning to suffer the same fate as the previous two- a battery which can't keep at all up to the nearly week long capacity Oura claims (for more than a couple of months anyway). I do not wear the ring in hot showers or in any other "thermally intense" situations, and my life follows a relatively routine schedule. And yet, ring after ring, I wind up having to charge the ring daily (or worse), and even then- my sleep data is not reliably recorded because the ring will think it's out of batteries, only to instantly show 60% or similar remaining the second I put it on the charger and have it connect. Oura has been great about providing replacements, but it almost seems to me like they are only so happy to send a replacement because they understand the product has an essential flaw. Through it all while I'm dealing with an unreliable ring which seems to cut out without warning and choose randomly what activities it does and doesn't want to record- I'm paying a monthly fee to Oura, for frustratingly incomplete data. I should not have to work this hard for something that I bought precisely because I wanted to wear it and forget it (and just review my sleep data with the app each morning). Anyway, I just wanted to post this because I find it so frustrating. The truth is I don't love the way it looks anyway- I wear it on my ring finger and while it is definitely noticeably slimmer than 3, it still sticks out and looks like a piece of hardware on me, and doesn't match with any other jewelry (or anything else) I wear. I know people wear them on their pointers but it just looks even uglier there on my narrow fingers. Anyway, bye Oura! You really helped me dial in my sleep patterns, and I will miss seeing my data- but it's just not worth the frustration anymore. If anything is changing or has changed that I don't know about it, I look forward to hearing about it.
