📅 Boston events worth doing this weekend: first-ever PWHL game at TD Garden, Celtics finale weekend & Slow Art Day at the Athenaeum
Happy Thursday! It’s a great day to have a great day! I hope you enjoyed the first weekend of the month & were able to check out some events. Walking through SoWas open galleries is one of my personal First Friday favorites, (especially if paired with a glass of wine/wine tasting). It is so cool to get to walk through what is essentially a museum, (or rather several different museums since each studio is so unique), but also get to meet and interact with the artist in real life. How often do you get to see a work of art through the artist's eyes and learn their story? If you are looking forward to the weekend, I’m happy to share that there is a ton going on. This weekend, there is a heavy focus on the music and sports scene, but I found & included a variety of activities: museum nights, wine tastings, and local business vendor fairs to make sure there is something for everyone. Please reach out if there are specific types of events you would like to see featured each week, or if I missed anything this week. 🎉 My newsletter has officially launched! I'll keep posting here on Reddit every week, but if you want to always be the first to know, sign up here. Picks of the week! 🏒 PWHL: Boston Fleet vs. Montréal Victoire at TD Garden | West End | Sold Out (available on resale websites) | Sat 4/11, 7pm | This is historic: the first-ever PWHL game at TD Garden. The Fleet and the Victoire have one of the best rivalries in women's hockey (seven of their eleven meetings have gone to OT/shootout, and last year's playoff series had three straight overtime games). 🕺 GLOWBALL 2026: Somerville's Anti-Gala Glow-in-the-Dark Rave | Somerville | Ticketed +$40 | GA 8pm | GLOWBALL is the Center for Arts at the Armory's 3rd annual "anti-gala" fundraiser, which means no speeches, no formal presentations, no silent auction, just an immersive glow-in-the-dark rave in the Armory's Performance Hall. Tickets include bites, glow-in-the-dark accessories, styling, and face painting. FYI: there's strobe and intense lighting throughout, so it's not safe for anyone with epilepsy or light sensitivity. 📚 Boston Athenaeum Slow Art Day: Free First Floor Admission | Downtown | Free | 9-3pm | One of the most beautiful and typically-paywalled buildings in Boston opens the entire first floor for free on Slow Art Day. Guided sessions through the galleries and special collections, plus access to some of the reading rooms. If you've never been inside the Athenaeum, this is the single best day of the year to go. 🏀 Celtics Regular Season Finale vs. Orlando Magic (Fan Appreciation Day) | TD Garden | Ticketed +$90 | Sunday | 6pm | Last home regular season game. Fan Appreciation Day means extra giveaways and celebrations before the team heads into the playoffs. 🎷 Arlington Jazz Festival | Arlington & Belmont | Free/ticketed | Wed–Sun | The 15th annual festival, with four days of mostly free performances across Arlington culminating in headliner Stanley Jordan Trio at the Regent Theatre on Sunday 4/12. Jordan pioneered the "touch technique" on guitar (it sounds like two guitarists playing at once) and this is one of the hidden-gem music events of the month. THURSDAY 4/9 🎨 ICA Free Thursdays | Seaport | 5–9pm | Free | The weekly staple. Rotating exhibits, waterfront views, free admission. Advance tickets online. 💕 Love @ Loretta's Vol. 2 | Fenway | Free | 7-9pm | Anti-dating-app mixer at Loretta's Last Call with live dating segments, guided conversation starters, bar specials, and a DJ. The first volume was a hit, so they're doing round two. If you're tired of Hinge, go. 🍷 BRIX La Primavera | Financial District | 5–7pm | Free | Spring in a glass. Fresh, vibrant, and full of energy, these wines are all about lift and brightness. BRIX is pouring a lineup that captures the spirit of the season: crisp, aromatic, and effortlessly drinkable. Themed tasting at the South End location as well! 🍷 Wine Tastings at VinoDiVino | VinoDiVino all locations | 4–7pm | Free | Crystal stemware, WSET-trained staff, rotating bottles. 🎭 The Outsiders at Citizens Opera House | Downtown | Ticketed | 7:30pm | First day of the final weekend of the 2024 Tony winner for Best Musical. FRIDAY 4/10 🎨 MFA College Night | Fenway | Free with student ID | Students only: DJ, photo booth, mini gallery talks, a K-pop dance performance, plus craft-making stations inspired by the "Framing Nature: Gardens and Imagination" exhibit that just opened. 🏀 Celtics vs. New Orleans Pelicans | TD Garden | Ticketed +$80 | 7:30pm | Second-to-last home game of the regular season. Expect a packed stadium! Definitely fun to hang out in the area and check out the neighborhood bars. 🎸 LANY at Roadrunner | Brighton | Ticketed | 7:30pm | LA indie pop heavy hitters touring a new album. 🎵 Whitney at The Sinclair | Harvard Square | Ticketed | 8pm | Indie folk-rock darlings behind Light Upon the Lake. Their 2025 album Small Talk was a return to the 1970s-styled country/folk sound that made them famous. SATURDAY 4/11 🏒 Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning | TD Garden | Ticketed | 12:30pm | Midday hockey! 🥕 Somerville Winter Farmers Market: SEASON FINALE | Somerville | Free entry | 9:30 - 1:30pm | The Somerville Winter Farmers Market closes out its season with 70+ local vendors: farmers with root vegetables and greenhouse greens, bread bakers, cheesemakers, local meat and fish, honey, maple, pickles, hot sauce, pastries, prepared foods, etc. Live music plays while you shop, the café is open for coffee and breakfast, and the event feels more like a neighborhood gathering than a grocery run. Bonus: The market accepts SNAP/EBT and runs a weekly match program, so benefits go further on fresh food. 🍷 The Hills Are Alive: Spring Wine Tasting at Pemberton Farms | Cambridge | Free | 5-7 pm | Free tasting featuring Ideal Wine, Arborway Imports, Vineyard Road, and Martignetti, plus cheese and honey pairings and gift basket raffles. Pemberton Farms is already a great reason to go to North Cambridge and this is the cherry on top. 🏒 PWHL Boston Fleet vs. Montréal Victoire | TD Garden | Resale tickets only | 7pm | 🌸 Magnolias in Bloom: Music Inspired by Nature | Arnold Arboretum, JP | Free | 3-4 pm (rain date Sun 4/12, 3–4pm) | Two New England Conservatory grad students (Chloe DeSteno and Ariana Mascari) assembled a small orchestra to perform pieces about magnolias, from Renaissance music to jazz, including one original piece composed for the Arboretum's magnolia collection. You sit on the grass surrounded by magnolias at peak bloom while the music plays. This is peak Boston-in-April and it will never happen again. Bring a blanket. 📚 Boston Athenaeum Slow Art Day: Free First Floor Admission | Downtown | Free | 9-3pm | One of the most beautiful and typically-paywalled buildings in Boston opens the entire first floor for free on Slow Art Day. Perfect, chill Sunday! 🎷 Arlington Jazz Festival: Stanley Jordan Trio (Closing Headliner) | Regent Theatre, Arlington | Ticketed +$30 | 7:30pm | The 15th annual festival wraps with guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan, who pioneered the "touch technique" that lets one guitar sound like two. 📚 "May I Have a Word" with Barbara Wallraff | Arts at the Armory Café, Somerville | Ticketed | Sun 4/12, 2:30–4pm | Barbara Wallraff, who writes The Boston Globe's Sunday Ideas column "May I Have a Word," hosts a gathering of wordplay lovers. Talk, Q&A, friends of the column. The nerdiest and most charming plan on this list. 🎭 The Outsiders (Closing Day) | Citizens Opera House | 1pm & 6:30pm | Last two performances of the 2024 Tony award winning musical, before it leaves Boston. ALL WEEKEND / ONGOING 👗 Reformation Sample Sale: Boston Seaport | Seaport | Free entry (RSVP) | Mon 4/6–Sun 4/12 | Mon–Sat 11am–7pm, Sun 12–6pm | Reformation is doing a full week-long sample sale at 62 Seaport Blvd and prices go up to 80% off retail. Expect past-season dresses, denim, skirts, pants, outerwear, blazers, knits, basics, and shoes; including one-of-a-kind sample pieces you won't find on the website. FYI: there are no fitting rooms, so wear something easy to layer over, and travel light because jackets and large bags will be checked. Shopping is capped at 45 minutes per person, card only (no cash), and all sales are final. Signing up ahead gets you priority entry, walk-ins are admitted by capacity, and VIP members skip the line entirely. This weekend (April 10–12) is the final stretch, so the selection will be picked-over but the markdowns usually deepen on the last day, so you might just find a steal. ☕ Ralph's Coffee Truck at The Superette | Seaport | Daily 7am–5pm | Ralph's Coffee rolled into Boston on April 1 and is parked at The Superette's courtyard in Seaport through the summer while they build out their permanent brick-and-mortar location in the neighborhood. The truck pours espresso drinks, cold brew, and their signature Ralph's blend, and the whole setup is as photogenic as you'd expect from a Ralph Lauren property: preppy green-and-white striped everything, cute cups worth keeping. 🏃 Boston Marathon: Race Ready Run Kits at lululemon (Prudential Center) | Back Bay | Fri 4/10–Sun 4/12 | With any purchase | Running the race (or crewing for someone who is)? Stop by lululemon at the Prudential Center for a little extra support to carry you across the finish line. Each day Friday through Sunday, the first 75 guests who show proof of race registration and make a purchase receive a complimentary Race Ready Kit, packed inside one of lululemon's signature run belts. The exact goodies stay part of the surprise, but expect a curated mix of race-day essentials from a brand that actually gets the assignment. 🏛️ Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition | CambridgeSide | $26+ | Through May 10 | Still running. All 34 frescoes at life-size scale. 🎡 Frostival Ferris Wheel: FINAL WEEKEND | Rose Kennedy Greenway | $4 | Through April 13 | This is literally the last weekend. 75 feet tall, skyline views. RSVP on Eventbrite gets you priority entry, walk-ins are admitted by capacity, and VIP members skip the line entirely. Gone after Monday. 🍺 Harpoon Brewery Tours & Tastings | Seaport | $15/person | Fri–Sun 12:30–5:30pm | Tastings every hour on the half hour. submitted by /u/Top-Finger-4339 to r/BostonSocialClub [link] [comments]

U.S. Olympic ice dancer Madison Chock designs many of her costumes, including her rhythm and free dance outfits at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. She also designed the free dance costume for her husband/partner, Evan Bates, as well as those for the Spanish & Georgian teams (February 6-7, 2026)
Chock on the inspiration for her rhythm costume: "Our music is Lenny Kravitz, and the theme of the rhythm dance this year is the ’90s. I wanted to incorporate the nostalgia of that decade with some animal prints, and some chains inspired by Chanel’s runway shows at the time. And there’s also a bit of Lenny’s style, too. He’s a fashion icon. I studied his stage looks, his streetwear, and pulled together something for Evan that was inspired really by one particular outfit that Lenny himself wore. My look, too, has some Lenny also, especially with mesh–he wore a lot of mesh.” Chock on the inspiration for the free dance costumes: “We have a flamenco-inspired program, so for the costumes we worked with a specialist who is a choreographer and director of the Spanish National Ballet.” (Source: Vogue) submitted by /u/skermahger to r/whatthefrockk [link] [comments]
