Have You Ever Used an Ozone Generator?
I’m moving into a post-war house in Australia, built about seventy years ago. Although it’s been renovated to a large extent, the all too familiar old-house smell remains. I presume a mould check was done during renovation, but until I can confirm this, I’d like to sort this out. Given the original doors and limited renovation on the exterior, I presume it hasn’t been gutted, so that could be the source of the lingering aroma. I hear ozone generators are great at dealing with this, but to what extent? Should I be aware of anything, and what price range should I be looking at for a good one? It’s a rental and has had about three rounds of tenants pass through, so there is also some wear and tear, but that is the least of my concerns. submitted by /u/phatbootyrudy to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]

Candle/Air Freshener/Unknown chemical odor that follows me around the apartment
This is a serious question. No bullying. No gaslighting. I'm looking for advice. I live in a one bedroom apartment in a rental building in NYC. Smoking, candles, incense, air fresheners (you get the idea) are clearly NOT allowed. The lease specifically states that. My downstairs neighbor likes using a combination of candles, air fresheners, and some unknown scent that makes me cough. When I first moved in, I noticed that the smell was right under where I was sitting. It wasn't anywhere else in my apartment, so I just picked up my laptop and stuff and moved to another corner of my apartment. For a few minutes it was okay. But then, that smell moved to where I was sitting. So I moved elsewhere. And then that smell followed me there. If I go shower, that smell is in the bathroom for the duration of my shower. When I go to sleep, that smell is right under my bed for the amount of time that I am asleep. The worst is the kitchen, the smell comes up from the sink as I'm using the kitchen. I contacted: 1) Property management - who proceeded to distribute notices to every apartment in the building reminding people that the building does not allow smoking, candles, incense, air fresheners, etc. 2) Building super - apparently this downstairs guy is a known problem. The super is a nice guy but there's not much he can do about it. 3) Organization that owns the building (not the same as property management, which I think is weird but whatever) - one of the directors of the organization came into my apartment, smelled it, ran back out and complained on my behalf. The smell actually got worse for a few days. I know that either this downstairs candle lover needs to move out or I need to move out, but that's not going to happen immediately, so for the time being, what can I do? Edit: Air purifiers do not help. I have two. But thanks for the suggestion. I do not have olfactory hallucinations. I already indicated that others can smell it too. I have already indicated that others in the building know that this downstairs person is a particular problem. I specifically stated NO gaslighting at the top of my post. It's 28F and I have no intention of using a fan in the middle of winter. Summer is fine, but this doesn't work in the winter. Ozone generators can only be used in unoccupied spaces and the neighbor is using candles continuously. I can use the ozone spray which will remove the odor but only for a few minutes, because the continuous candle burning/air freshener will bring the odor right back. Every post has those people (u/Mental_Chip9096, u/Soushkabob) who thinks that it's fake. Okay. I'm not going to bend backwards to convince you that it's real because even if I do, I'm not getting anything out of it. The purpose of this post isn't to ask, "Does not allowing candles and air fresheners make sense?" The purpose of this post is to ask, "In this situation, what are some solutions?" I have asked lawyers and they suggested that I just move out since that's the easiest and lowest cost option. AS I HAVE ALREADY INDICATED, I am looking for a new apartment, but that's not happening with a snap of my fingers and I need a Band-Aid solution for the time being. I will not be replying to, updating, or checking this post. Thank you to those who tried. But as of December 2025, none of the comments below are helpful. I will leave this post up for other New Yorkers. Edit 2: I found a Band-Aid solution myself (no thanks to Reddit). I figured out that the smell was coming from up through the pipes. The kitchen is part of the living room so when the kitchen is not in use, I plug the kitchen sink (most sinks comes with their own plugs, if you don't have a plug, just put an entire bowl or lid over the sink opening). That cut out a lot of the smell. If the smell has already gotten in (because I can't plug the kitchen sink all day), I have to just put on a coat and open the windows to air it out. submitted by /u/lurker081625 to r/NYCapartments [link] [comments]

Anyone know where to rent a car-sized ozone generator in Ottawa?
Hi Ottawa, I’m looking to rent a small ozone generator for a short period, ideally one of the compact units designed for use in cars. I recently bought a used vehicle that was cleaned with far too much air freshener, and I’m hoping an ozone treatment can help clear out the smell. From what I’ve read, running the right machine for about 30 minutes with proper safety precautions should be enough. I’d only need it for about an hour total. If you know of a local business or individual that offers short-term rentals of something suitable, I’d really appreciate the recommendation. I’m also open to any tips if you’ve done this kind of thing before. Thanks! submitted by /u/gcorneil to r/ottawa [link] [comments]

Ozone generator machine rental?
Hello, wondering if anyone knows of anywhere in the area that rents small ozone machines? A mouse got in my car a while back. I've had it professionally detailed twice and detail it myself twice and still can't seem to quite the animal scent out. Hoping an ozone generator could help. I've checked the Home Depot, World of Rentals, and Sunbelt rentals site and don't see the machines in there but wondering if there might be other places I'm not aware of. Thanks!! submitted by /u/Candid-Banana735 to r/KingstonOntario [link] [comments]

Smoke smell from renter
TLDR: Rental smells like smoke (or something else) after lots of cleaning and painting all. Update 3: Ozone generator for the win! Ran it upstairs for 2 hours and downstairs for 2 hours. Aired the place out and went back several days later. Smells perfect! Not sure how I never heard of this after so many years in rentals. Update 2: After putting baking soda everywhere smell was much less. Bought an ozone generator and run it upstairs for 120 min, then downstairs for 120. Will check results tomorrow after airing it out. Description: Rental unit smells like smoke. Tenants lived there over 10 years and smoked. Carpet was absolutely nasty and disintegrating when removed. Painted walls, ceilings with 2 coats of oil base primer and finish coat. Left the kitchen cabinets, but painted them (the face, not inside). Still smells. Also installed new windows which i think has no effect. Replaced air filters but didn't have ducts cleaned. Maybe paint the subfloor before installing new flooring? Anyone have experience with this? Edit: I might have been wrong. I did smell smoke, but didn't see the normal smoke traces like nicotene yellow trails on things. I went back to the property. Orignally the property was like a hoarder lived there. It was a grandma who never left her room, a late 20's daughter and her 3 kids all living in a 2 bedroom. There were piles and piles of clothes, trash, just digusting. Took 3 or 4 full trailer loads just to remove the trash. We did remove all carpert that seemed almost glued to the floor and in places the padding just dissentigrated. We washed the walls with outdoor strength bleach 3 times and the floors as well. Used a strong stiff brush on a pole for leverage. Place has been painted with 2 coats of oil based kilz on walls and ceiling and then finish coats. Bathroom vanity was removed. All flooring removed. Some subflooring removed when repairs were done.Maybe 10 pieces of drywall replaced too that had holes in them. Going back today I paid more attention to the smell. The biggest concentration of the smell was in the grandma room that she never left. The daughter did smoke, but I think the lingering smell is the grandma BO. We bought a huge bag of baking soda and spread it on all sub-floors today. Brushed it in with a broom. Put down extra in grandma's room. Will wait 48 hour and will see. Supposed to rain next 2 days. I have a rental property that's divided into 3 apartments. 2 down, 1 up. I need to use an ozone generator to get rid of some odors in one of the unoccupied downstairs units. Ozone generator recommendations
I have a 1850sqft house. Heavy smokers and wood burning since it was built in 1960. I’ve done the tsp, binz thing, top coat of paint is next Scrubbing wood and will primer the barn wood inside later. Figured I should give ozone a shot too. Of course can’t trust any review on Amazon, looking to spend around 150-175. Can you recommend ozone generator? Anything made in USA? Edit: I am trying to solve smoke smell and know I will need to do outlets and fixtures eventually. Would like to make it “good enough” in meantime to move and keep working on it. submitted by /u/Situation-Real to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]

Ozone generator rental?
I'm looking to rent an ozone generator/machine to get rid of pet odour in a relative's home. I understand the dangers of ozone, and no humans or pets will be in the home while it is being used. I have done searches for rentals in Winnipeg, but haven't come up with anything. Anyone have any leads? EDIT: Thanks, everyone! In researching people's suggestions, I think I came across a promising company, Saftey Express, that doesn't necessarily do ozone generators, but does vaportek, which /u/ducktales_ suggested. Where can I rent an ozone generator?
Hello, As the title says, I'm looking to rent an ozone generator. Reason is I've had a car rental since October (for work) - and I've smoked cigarettes in it. (Yes, I'm that guy)... I am trying to do the right thing and clean the smell before I return the car, and have read ozone generators do a great job. Would also like to avoid the $2xx fee charged by the rental company. Or, does anyone know a car detailing place where I could leave my car overnight with the ozone generator running. Or a car detail place that does a good job with cigarette odor? submitted by /u/kimdizzle to r/Columbus [link] [comments]
