I've been bitten like this before and have spent a small fortune on Robotrays. My cat is longhaired and when he had a closed robot litter tray I was constantly having to have his bum "groomed" as 'mess' kept getting stuck. I've changed to an open one and he's been fine. I currently have the Robotail but would like to change to the Petlibro - any comments/advice?

Petlibro Luma vs Litter-Robot 5... why are people actually paying $300 more?
i have been looking at the Petlibro Luma and Litter-Robot 5 and i honestly do not get why the price gap is so huge. the lr5 pro is $899 while the luma is $599 and on paper they do the exact same thing. is the litter-robot actually better at odor control or is this just a classic case of paying for a name? i am specifically looking for something that is easy to take apart because i am done with my house smelling like a zoo. i have a theory that the enclosed "globe" style on the lr5 actually makes the smell worse by trapping it inside. has anyone actually used both? i want to know if that $300 "premium" actually buys you better tech or if it is just better marketing. edit: the comments here were nasty, so I looked around myself if petlibro actually made changes themselves unlike before, point is, i ended up going with the petlibro luma still and the comparison is a total no-brainer to me. submitted by /u/Saartee_Filipe to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Recent Petlibro outtage exposed something bigger
These devices seem far too online dependent for what they are. Can't feed, schedules doesn't work during their online outtage.. A pet feeder should not rely this much on app state, account binding, backend services, and vendor systems just to do its core job reliably. That is not only a reliability problem. It is a security and ownership problem too. If the device depends on vendor infrastructure this much, then the vendor holds real power over how it behaves. That means you do not fully own the device in the practical sense. You are partly renting functionality through their system. For a pet feeder, that is bad design. Core feeding should be local first. Cloud should only be extra. Logs, notifications, remote viewing. Not critical operation. If vendor-side issues can affect feeding, then the product is architected wrong. I also want you to really think further about the level at which they're controlling devices. submitted by /u/sashiklv to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

What's up with Petlibro...?
I I liked them at first but honestly, the deeper I dig, and the more I buy, the more I start to realize that they don't really care for our pets. Their only drive is money. They do just enough to make sure we can't go after them legally. Let's start with the ridiculous subscription service. You're telling me that the $120 yearly tier only supports 1 device...? And to get more devices, I have to spend $200? And even then, I can only connect it with 3 devices? Meaning I would have to buy another subscription if I wanted to add more devices. You could at least allow an SD card to be added. It’s ridiculous and it’s intentional. Then there’s the dockstream 2 turning itself off when it still has a lot of water left in it. It just stops working when it’s got 2/5 amount of water left. Even though in the app it says it has 8 days of water left. And we shouldn’t forget the polar feeder not being safe, as others have mentioned. The food does not last as long as it claims it does and my cat got sick after eating the last portion. It also doesn’t have anything to keep ants out. When you contact them (which isn’t really easy in my experience), they blame it on anything but themselves. They say it’s faulty wiring. They say you set it up wrong. That it’s the WiFi. Or you’re using it other than it’s intended to be used. But in reality, Petlibro is the problem. Their obsession with money is the problem. Of course, all companies are going to be driven by money, but they shouldn’t be so obsessed that they disregard what’s important for pets and owners. And the sad thing is, that’s how most pet companies are. I think consumers forget that we have the power, and these companies want us to forget that. It’s not going to get and better if we just continue letting them do this. So if you can, write to them and tell them that what they’re doing is wrong, and even cancel your subscriptions if you don’t need them (I understand that there are people who need them in some ways). If cancelling it only causes you a minor inconvenience, then I’d say go ahead and cancel it anyways. Your minor inconvenience could be a major inconvenience for Petlibro if enough people decide to cancel. It’s not right to support a company that cares so little about the pets their products are for. submitted by /u/Stronsia to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

Unpopular opinion: I like the Luma Smart Litter Box
So I’ve seen a lot of posts talking about Petlibro and how they’re not a reliable brand as far as their products not working properly. I just wanted to make this post in case anyone’s looking for an automatic litter box but is terrified of decapitation. First, I have the petlibro dockstream 2 and I love it, super easy to clean and I’ve never had an issue with it. I don’t have a feeder because I really don’t have a use for it, but my brother loves it and so does my boyfriend. Now I was looking at automatic litters for a while. My one issue is that I’ve never liked the idea of it being fully automatic cause obviously I don’t want to come home to find my child decapitated. Because of this, I was looking at options that let me turn off the self cleaning so that I can just go in and manually set it to clean and I can have peace of mind knowing my cat is no where near it when I set it to clean. So my issue with the LR5 (based on different posts I’ve seen) is that you can’t fully turn off the self-cleaning. Same with all LR models (again, from what I’ve read I believe it’s only for a certain period of time or something like that). Then I saw the Luma and saw that it actually recommends turning off the self clean for nursing/pregnant cats or kittens under 6 months/2.2 lbs. I decided to try it out after confirming that you can for sure turn off the self clean. Here’s my thoughts — It doesn’t smell. Before this, I used a stainless steel litter box and scooped daily into the litter genie because I’m extremely sensitive to smells. I’ve had the Luma for about a week and a half (I know, a little too early to tell), but I’ve had no problems with smell so far. I love the camera. It sends me an alert when my cat gets near me and another one when my cat leaves. It records the whole process so I can see if there’s something wrong. It detects up to 10 cats (I only have one so I couldn’t test this, but it does great recognizing my cat). It also detects waste and the weight of your kitten. That being said, I know the LR does these things, but definitely at a much higher cost. From what I can tell, it cleans pretty well. When I go to clean it, I take my cat out of the room so she doesn’t set off any sensors and press the clean button on the app and let it do its thing. I do this every night. The only issue I’ve had so far was that I’d set it to clean and it would stop saying it detected my cats weight even though there’s no cat in the room. Since then, I learned that it can’t be directly next to anything because it’ll set off the weight sensors which to me isn’t really a big deal. It’s extremely easy to remove the basin and clean it. You just select empty all in the app to drain all the litter into the drawer. The sides pop out and you just carry it out to clean it. submitted by /u/Itchy-Self-1588 to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

I hate Petlibro app so I made my own - with widgets
I have 3 Petlibro devices but I really can’t stand their iPhone app. It’s slow, illogical, buried in menus for literally every action and half the time I’m just tapping through ads to get to the one button I actually need. Manual feed? Three screens in. Rotate wet feeder? Hidden. Cleaning timers? Deep in settings. It feels like it’s actively trying to slow me down. So I made my own app. Nothing fancy, just a fast remote with the basic stuff front and center. It opens instantly, no ads, no “journey”, no fighting UI. Home screen is all the actions I use daily, Devices tab has everything else if I need to mess with settings or reset timers. The part I love most is widgets. I put feeding controls in 3 places: • Home screen widget • Control Center tile • Lock screen widget If my cat starts yelling, I don’t even unlock my phone. Tap, tap, feeder goes. I’m not the first one poking at Petlibro’s API. There are a couple reverse-engineered repos on GitHub and I used that research to build this. The app just logs into the normal Petlibro servers using a separate Petlibro account I created and shared access with. Email + password stay on device, nothing is sent anywhere else. No cloud, no proxy, just talking to Petlibro directly. I’ve been using it for a couple weeks and it feels so much better. I don’t think I can put it on the App Store since Petlibro would probably shut it down fast, but I could open source it if people want to sideload or build it themselves. If there’s enough interest, maybe I’ll find a way for anyone to install it too. Anyway, if you also think the official app is kind of painful to use, I’m curious if this solves a real problem for others or if I’m just picky. Not selling anything, not hyping anything, just sharing what I built because it helped me a lot. Screenshots attached above. TLDR: Official Petlibro app felt slow and clunky, so I built my own iOS remote with instant load, one-tap feeding, widgets for home screen / lock screen / control center, and cleaner UI. Thinking about open-sourcing / distributing it if there’s interest. submitted by /u/podh2o to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

Returning Petlibro Luma
I’ve had the Luma for a week and my cat has used it Sunday through today, Saturday. This product seems to have been released before it was ready. I would have loved it if it functioned as intended, but there’s so much troubleshooting involved that I might as well be scooping. It started scaring my cats and at this point I fear for their safety. It costs way too much money to be having these issues, so unfortunately I will have to return. submitted by /u/Striking-Bad-49 to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

Im boycotting Petlibro after buying the Luma
Title says it. I’m never touching another petlibro product ever again. I have their water fountain and I love it but I’m probably going to give it away and buy from another brand. I’m severely disappointed in the Luma and their response to the backlash around it. I bought the Luma the day it came out and got it two days after, great shipping time. I tested it out, was wary of the safety of it. Started seeing others having other safety issues. Ultimately decided that I wasn’t going to put my cats lives in danger over a litter box and I didn’t pay 600 dollars to need to watch it, to manually trigger a cleaning cycle. I go on Amazon to check their reviews and I find a mix of good and bad. All the bad reviews are from the Luma. The positive? Mostly from a completely unrelated product. They’re blatantly trying to hide the bad reviews and if you look on their website… purely good reviews. Kinda odd…… So, I tried to return it. At first support tried to get me to keep it, trying to convince me that it was indeed safe. I don’t care, I don’t want it. Then they sent me to a return site and wanted me to pay over 100 USD to return it!!!! I get that it’s a large and heavy box but damn, so much for a “money back guarantee”. After fighting with them they said because I had the “purchase and return protection plan” that it was free. Then my return request got denied :/…. Called back and after waiting on the phone for an hour they said “that was a mistake in the system, try again”. Still waiting for that response. Long story short. I’m never buying from Petlibro again. I’m getting rid of my Luma, I bought a LR4 and I’m getting a different water fountain so I never have to use anything from this company again. submitted by /u/Automatic-Ocelot4606 to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]

is anyone genuinely going to buy the petlibro automatic litter box soon?
I paid a dollar for 100 dollars off before its launch. of course its 599 and I cannot afford 499 and I knew this was a probability but i had a spare buck. does anyone want my hundo credit? only if you're literally about to use it though! it sounds neat. seems like they're having a little black friday sale too but I doubt you can stack coupon codes https://petlibro.com/pages/black-friday?tw_source=google&tw_adid=783412779350&tw_campaign=12304700824&tw_kwdid=kwd-912113961304&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=12304700824&gclid=CjwKCAiAz_DIBhBJEiwAVH2XwL3nE3UIJpR7YAyK8a5jT6n_mJJ_eUhhh0jk7EF1lyk6dFTOR7ATKRoCZM8QAvD_BwE submitted by /u/Still-Carob-8995 to r/Catownerhacks [link] [comments]

What did you switch to after PETLIBRO failed?
My Petlibro has lost WiFi connection for the third time this year. I’m not looking forward to another free replacement from them since it’s the same issue every time. What did you switch to? I want a dry feeder with a camera and app. submitted by /u/girlGT to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Petlibro is nice
It was unbelievably annoying to browse the sub and try to find options for smart pet feeders and fountains. Literally everybody just recommends building some sort of leak detector with esp32. Obviously, obviously, not a complete solution. I couldn’t find a single thread of somebody actually recommending a product. I tried pet kit, but it turns out that it doesn’t actually work unless you get one of their other main device devices that is Wi-Fi enabled. So now I basically just have this dumb ass Bluetooth fountain that I can’t use. So I went with Petlibro and got two granary feeders and a dockstream fountain. Their app is horrible. It literally logs you out every 15 seconds. If it weren’t for that the app be 10 out of 10 .But once you get it set up it works extremely well with home assistant. Schedules are set up through the app but stored locally on each device, I can check water levels and manually feed to custom amounts through the app. I wish it was better about things like last feed times or last drink times, but I can live without that. submitted by /u/2017macbookpro to r/homeassistant [link] [comments]

Is the Petlibro Dockstream Smart Fountain ACTUALLY good?
I've been considering buying the Docstream Smart Fountain for my cats, but I'm worried because I've heard Petlibro might have bots promoting their fountains and I don't want to be tricked by bots into buying a fountain that isn't really good for my cats. submitted by /u/hornetisnotv0id to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Petlibro feeder opened with my cat’s microchip — $1000 vet bill 😡
Just wanted to share what happened in case it helps anyone avoid the nightmare I just went through. I have the Petlibro RFID feeder — the kind that’s supposed to open only with the RFID tag, not microchips. Their website clearly says it doesn’t detect microchips. Well, turns out that’s not true😳 I noticed the feeder opened for my cat even when he wasn’t wearing the tag. I freaked out thinking he swallowed the RFID tag, because how else could it be opening? When I tagged his body to the feeder, it opened. So I rushed him to the emergency vet. Long story short: He didn’t eat the tag. After a $1000 vet bill (yes, including X-rays), we found out that the feeder was somehow opening due to his microchip — the last 6 digits matched, and the feeder was recognizing it as a valid tag. I emailed Petlibro and attached everything — photos, hospital bill, X-ray. I asked them to: 1. Update their product info (because this was super misleading) 2. Fix this issue 3. Reimburse me for the vet costs To be honest, I don’t think they will reimburse my money for the vet costs. But I saw some Reddit post some cats ate the rfid tag… I hope the company needs to acknowledge that feeder might detect microchip instead of the tag. This whole experience was so stressful. I honestly thought my cat had swallowed the tag and was going to need surgery or worse. I lost an entire day panicking. Please, if you use one of these feeders, double-check if it opens with just your pet’s microchip — especially if you rely on it for portion control or multi-pet feeding. (Just make sure the collar id is same as on the app. Mine was last 6 digits of microchip). I realized this after I went to ER. Has anyone else had this happen?? Hopefully this was helpful and I hope pet libro needs to do something with their website and update their machine. submitted by /u/zolpidemlee to r/CatDistributionSystem [link] [comments]

PETLIBRO IS A SCAM
Hey everyone, just bought the wet food automatic feeder from Petlibro and it broke like 5 minutes after I set it up. I reached out to customer service and they were responsive but stopped responding when their troubleshooting didn’t work (at the point where they have to decide to issue me a refund, send me a new product, or give me store credit, etc.). I started doing a deep dive and their instagram & FB is flooded with comments from people that are having issues with the products shortly after purchase and haven’t received a response. Then I look on the BBB (better business bureau) website and they aren’t accredited due to complaints! Some of the existing complaints are on there and the company has 1 star. They are really good with marketing but it’s a scam!! Be aware!! https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/santa-clara/profile/pet-supplies/petlibro-1216-1420442/customer-reviews submitted by /u/Murky_Opening6174 to r/Pets [link] [comments]

Bites my feet at 5am, what should I do?
My ragdoll is 6 months old and he bites my feet EVERY SINGLE DAY at 5 or 6am when I’m literally sleeping soundly. The bites actually hurt (but no bleeding) , just enough force to wake someone up. I have no idea how to teach him not to do it. Will this situation go away when they grow up? submitted by /u/onlynineyearsold to r/ragdolls [link] [comments]

Petlibro Polar Feeder
Has anyone purchased the Petlibro Polar Wet Food Feeder? It seems like a really good concept and decently well made, so I’m curious about how effective it really is. I’d love to be able to feed my kitties wet food on nights away and would be thrilled if they’d stop waking me up to feed them early in the morning. But, I’d have to get them each their own feeder and I don’t want to spend the money on that if they don’t work well submitted by /u/Otherwise-Bread-1950 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Petlibro One RFID feeder review
I've had SureFlap feeders for years now, but one of them is having trouble opening, and they're crazy expensive to replace. I've been looking for an RFID feeder that does auto feeding for a while now, so when I saw this on Milo's Instagram I figured I'd try it out. I got $30 off using a discount code I googled for, so the total price was $120. TL;DR: I'm pretty happy with it. There are a few downsides but no major issues and definitely no dealbreakers yet. There really aren't many devices that do both scheduled auto-feeding and RFID-based exclusion. The PortionPro Rx is the only other one I've found, but it costs over twice as much, and afaict it doesn't have wifi and the reviews are mixed. Even the Sureflap costs $200 and doesn't do auto-feeding at all. So I was very happy to see this. It seems like it just came out a few days ago, so I was admittedly taking a bit of a chance ordering a newly-released product. Right out of the box, the setup process was very good, with almost no Engrish in the instructions, and a relatively clear quick start guide. The parts felt like they fit together snugly, and I liked the overall build quality. It feels like it would be hard for a cat to steal food out of, too (EDIT: Many have reported that their cats have been able to open the lid with their claws. Petlibro has made new lids available which may or may not help). The app looks and feels nice, and works very well. It joined the device to wifi, did a firmware update, let me pair with a collar, and set feeding schedules in a process that felt very smooth and quick. After a little bit of hesitation my cat took to it relatively well. Feeding her before we cook dinner does seem to reduce the troublesome behaviors, we'll see if it helps in the long run. Things that I like about it compared to the Sureflap feeder: Automatic feeding! This is great, compared to the Sureflap which has no automatic option at all. Saves me lots of time, makes my cat less likely to pester me for food, I can schedule feedings for the morning instead of the cat waking me up, great for vacations, etc. The app lets you set up to 6 meals per day, in increments of 1/12 of a cup, with weekly scheduling options and such. Plug-in as opposed to constantly needing to replace C batteries. The Petlibro optionally takes 3 D cells, but only for backup feeding during power loss, it is expected to be plugged in all the time. Some might consider this a downside but I love it! It's far cheaper than the Sureflap, for way more features! The LCD screen is probably not essential, but is a cute touch and makes it feel a bit more fun. Mine says "KITTY" right now. Things that I don't love: Unlike the SureFlap feeder, it won't work with your cat's embedded ID chip. Instead you have to put a rather chunky RFID dongle on the cat's collar. Not all of my cats tolerate collars all that well, so that limits who I can use the feeder for. Also, the dongle is way bigger than the little coin-sized disc that comes with the sureflap (Update: A newer, smaller version is available with newer ones, and you can request them from Petlibro support). It makes a funny noise when my cat walks, but I'm sure she'll get used to it. The collar that comes with it doesn't breakaway as easily as it should for a small cat, which is a choking hazard! I used it with my cat's existing collar. There's a big brown pad that sticks out from under the feeder. I guess I assumed that was optional when I saw it in videos, but it's actually where the RFID reader is. That's a clever location; it's not the color I would've chosen but it's fine. No training mode. The SureFlap has a very nice setting where it gradually increases the lid movement to get your cat adjusted to it--at first it stays open with just a slight twitch every time your cat enters, then at the next stage it covers the food bowl partway, then most of the way. My cats are already used to the flap movement on the Sureflap, so this isn't a dealbreaker, but it might be for cats that are new to flap feeders. The lid is slow to open. I was able to set it a bit faster but it's still slower than the Sureflap, which might make cats less scared of it but it makes the whole eating process less of a seamless walk-up-and-eat. It's tied to the Cloud. It seems like Petlibro has only been around for a few years, and while it has a variety of products, there's always the chance that they'll go out of business and leave me with an unusable feeder--an inherent risk of buying a cloud-tied device. There's also privacy risks when using the cloud. My LitterRobot 3 is also cloud-dependent, but if the cloud went away it will still work, whereas this would likely be essentially unusable. I'm slightly more cloud-averse than an average person, since I work in IT, but most people probably won't be bothered by it. EDIT 2025-12-01: one user reported having to sign up for a paid subscription just to configure the feeding schedule on these. I haven't seen it confirmed that myself but it's another risk of buying a cloud-dependant device, as many iot buyers have found lately, e.g. Anova or Wyze or many others. The only way to change settings afaict is in the app. There's no website that I can visit in a browser, so I can't change things from my PC, and there doesn't seem to be a way to integrate it with Home Assistant (yet). Again, probably not a con for most users, but this bugs me. EDIT: They seem to interfere with nearby SureFlap feeders. I had to add the ID tag to my other cats collar because her implanted microchip doesn't reliably open her SureFlap feeder anymore, now that the Petlibro feeders are in the same room. I haven't tested to see how far away this effect persists. Again, overall I'm pretty happy, the cons are relatively minor. I've only had it for a few days though, so I'll see how it works in the next couple weeks and update if necessary. EDIT: 4-month update: I'm still very happy with it, and have purchased more of them for my newly adopted cats. They have generally been reliable and worked well, and I'm seeing a continuous stream of firmware updates that suggest that the devs are making improvements. It has definitely made a big difference for my food-motivated cats. submitted by /u/TexasDex to r/Petlibro [link] [comments]
