AI 'doctor' said my back pain is depression, not a slipped disc. Now physical therapy won’t get approved.
Went to my doctor a couple of weeks ago because my lower back has been killing me. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something serious and maybe get a referral for physical therapy. Pretty normal visit, in and out in like fifteen minutes. During the appointment I noticed this little tablet sitting on the desk. My doctor goes, “We’re using an AI scribe called Freed now. It listens during the visit and takes notes for me.” Sounded kind of cool at the time. A week later I get a message from my insurance saying there’s an issue with my diagnosis code. Turns out this brilliant AI decided I was being treated for depression instead of back pain. The claim shows F32.9 for “Depressive disorder, unspecified” while all my prescriptions and notes are clearly for lumbar pain. Now my claim is stuck, my therapy sessions are on hold, and my doctor’s office says they can’t even edit the AI-generated notes without going through Freed’s support team for “compliance reasons.” So yeah, my back still hurts, my emails are piling up, and honestly the only thing Freed diagnosed correctly is that I’m losing patience. submitted by /u/DueTelevision6252 to r/Wellthatsucks [link] [comments]

“Don’t go into physical therapy for the money”
I always hear this and im curious to what it really means. I don’t want a mansion or an Escalade, but what I do want is enough money to live a normal life and have a family. I want to have a nice home, a working car, food on the table and occasionally be able to go on vacation. I know student debt is an issue but outside of that will I be able to afford to have a normal life as a PT coming from someone who applies to PT school next summer? What’s the Most Unethical Thing You’ve Experienced in Physical Therapy?
I’ll go first 🤚🏻 I found out through a fellow PTA that the CEO of a company I worked for was using my credentials to fraudulently bill for Medicare patients in order to maximize billing without telling me. Basically, we saw patients every half hour and if I had a gap in my schedule and she had a Medicare patient around the same time… She would try to get two extra units using my credentials to bill for an hour long session when I was in the back catching up on paperwork. This took place in a private outpatient clinic, and Medicare had actually gotten involved and quickly became a legal issue for obvious reasons. While it was extremely vindicating to see her have to pay back Medicare for all of those months of fraudulent billing… I cannot tell you how awkward it was to have to sit in the same room with her and a lawyer present and go through each and every patient that she said that I had ‘assisted her with’ to ensure it was accurate or not. I must’ve said no to 50+ patients because it was apparently going on for a good year and other PTAs were involved as well. I won’t name drop the company because I wanna protect the privacy of those affected and those years are now behind me. Plus, justice was served. 😈 submitted by /u/Rica_nicole to r/physicaltherapy [link] [comments]

Physical therapy is embarrassing
Disclaimer- I love PT, this is not a post against PT. It has helped me a lot (I technically go to sports rehab, idk why. I am not in sports. I think it's just what they have available) I am 18, I still go to a children's hospital and everyone else who is there is there for sports related injuries. Everyone else is strong. I feel like I'm the only one there for a disability. I have so much anxiety while I'm there. I feel weak compared to everyone else. I feel like everyone is judging my strength. I know I am in my own head but teenagers scare me even though I am one lol. I love my physical therapists, they are kind, understanding, and are willing to learn more about hEDS to better help me. I don't want to change offices I guess I just feel like complaining. I do such weird, awkward looking workouts. I feel silly even doing them at home. The silliest looking ones are to help my over reactive nerves. I have to slowly swing my hands back and fourth while shrugging my shoulders up and down. Another one I have to make a double chin over and over again There are often times people I find attractive there and they are just seeing me sweat while pulling a band or making double chins lmao I know it's all worth it, I am in less pain because of physical therapy. I just wish there weren't any peers there. I have been told it gets better and less awkward, and it has but it's still bad. I have horrid social anxiety to begin with. The funny thing is I am kinda grungy, have crazy colored hair, and lots of tattoos for my age. I am the teen movies are fearful of yet I am the scared one. submitted by /u/Formal_Ingenuity_506 to r/ehlersdanlos [link] [comments]

How the hell is it not session based and everyday gonna cost me different for the same amount of goddamn time? Glad you are here and getting care, sad that that happened. Big hugs and a strong recovery. Please note: Physical Therapy is worth its weight in gold. Every bit of it is worth 100x the effort put in. Not doing it thinking “it’ll heal anyway” isn’t wise. Treat it religiously and it’ll save you many problems down the road.

Physical Therapy Has Been A Waste Of Time for years
I've been in and out of physical therapy for over 25 years and can say with 100% confidence that it has been a waste of time and money and I hate the initial question of "What do you want to accomplish with Physical Therapy?" or some similar question and getting handed an exercise at home paper. (I really do the home exercises at least twice a day already). To answer their initial eval question, I started telling them "My Doctor forced me to come here and with my experience, I don't expect anything to change or improve but I really hope you prove me wrong". They haven't as of yet. The 5 minute Infrared red rub felt good, and the final heat or ice pad with the tens unit for 15 minutes felt good but other than that, all I did was go on exercise machines while the staff gabbed with each other or the customers. In the over 25 years, up to 7 different places it was all the same. Most of my time was spent alone after being told what exercises or machine to do by the assistants, then later, the actual PT would spend maybe 5 -10 minutes rubbing something, then put me on the ice or heat and tens unit, and then I'm done. It always felt like such a waste of my travel time plus time being there, and the copays while they got hundreds from my insurance for each visit, and it didn't help my curved spine, sciatica, radiculopathy, stenosis, fractured vertebrae, etc., in any way. I would leave being even more numb in my legs/feet and right fingers and I would be really sore. Have to go home, take a muscle relaxer use more ice to recuperate from what I just went through because I'm trying to do what the professionals tell me while they don't actually know what this feels like. I ended up getting my own stuff for home. Tens unit, foam roll, already had heat and ice pads and even ones that wrap my shoulder and knees. Dr gets upset with me when I tell him PT has always been a waste of time and I'm not going anymore unless its after a surgery and even then, only 1 to 3 times max. Mainly to get the proper exercises to do at home. That I can now just do a search for on the internet. I find doing exercises on my own, then seeing a Massage Therapist does way more for than any Physical Therapy place I've been to and feel the money was much better spent and not a waste of time. The Stretching out and Massage actually helps me, while PT does nothing for me and never has. submitted by /u/Itsaloadofnonsense to r/ChronicPain [link] [comments]

Perception of Physical Therapy/Physical Therapists?
A topic heavily discussed in PT school and PT clinics is the underutilization of physical therapy. I have heard that surgeons have had bad experiences w/ reinjury d/t physical therapists, but, in my experience, these instances seem to be relatively rare, especially in the OP setting. How does the medical community feel about PTs and PT in general? submitted by /u/PatrickIsRandom to r/medicine [link] [comments]

AITA for asking my husband to not be near our daughter during her physical therapy?
I (42f) have 3 kids (18f, 16m,14f) with my husband (45m). My husband has always been the disciplinarian and tends to yell and scream insults a lot and get mad quite easily, and our kids don't have the best relationship with him due to this. Our youngest was in a car accident, and experienced a spinal cord injury and is currently going trough physical therapy, and some surgeries. She is doing some practice at home and I don't want my husband there a lot when she's going trough the therapy, or at the hospital picking her up and dropping her off for surgery, as he may instinctively get mad at her messing something up or him being there may make her feel worried that he's going to get mad. She has also asked me to try and get him to not be there. I confronted him and told him that because he wants to help them he may get mad easily and upset her when she needs to be as positive as possible, and knowing him he may worry about grades and let that blind him from worrying about her. He said that he would be there and that as a father he had the right to get mad when his children make mistakes. I told him that she really needed support during this time and that knowing he tends to be very disciplinary I would not be letting him near her during this time. He told me that there was nothing stopping him and I said that I would divorce him if he acted the same way. He told me I was being a f*cking psycho and I am starting to think that he is right and maybe I am overreacting in not letting him be there during this time, AITA? submitted by /u/Ok-Replacement-2442 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

LPT: Physical Therapy isn’t just for people who need to learn to walk again, it can help people with acute or chronic pain, balance and vertigo, headaches, concussion, jaw pain, incontinence, pain with sex, neurological disorders, or any physical problems limiting you from doing what you want to do.
A lot of people don’t fully understand what physical therapy (and speech and occupational therapy) can do for them. Our goal is to get you out of our clinic as soon as possible so your condition has either resolved completely and/or you now have the tools to manage it well without us! Edit: Also, to the people with long-Covid who still feel really fatigued and out of breath with your activities—come see us! We can help! Edit 2: based on a comment I want to add the following info: some of the areas we treat require seeing a PT who specializes in that area. A regular PT should know if you need to see another PT with certain certifications or a specialization. For example, I would suggest that the long-Covid patients see rehab specialists who advertise working specifically with that population, since research in that area is new and evolving. submitted by /u/mydogisthedawg to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

I did a AMA back in December 30, 2019 about how I was suffering from locked in syndrome. This time I want people to ask me anything about my recovery in all aspects physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Also how I am able to push forward when everyone told me it would be imposs
I was diagnosed with a terminal progressive disease called Toxic Acute Progressive Leukoencephalopathy. This put me into locked in syndrome and hospice for six months. Here are some facts about what happened: Memorial Day weekend 2017, I was diagnosed with Acute Toxic Progressive Leukoencephalopathy. There is no way to prove what caused my illness. The only thing they know for sure is that it was from inhaling a toxin. This disease is nicknamed chasing the Dragon syndrome, I used to smoke heroin on tinfoil, odds are it was a cutting agent. This is my recovery journey from Locked-in syndrome (LIS), also known as pseudocoma. It is a condition in which a patient is aware but cannot move or communicate verbally due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body except for vertical eye movements and blinking. I will be making video posts as I was getting sicker leading up to me being locked in and then my miraculous recovery. Everyone thought I was “Brain dead” not in the clinical sense of the term could hear and see the entire time. People thought I would die hundreds of times, no one has ever recovered from stage four of toxic acute progressive Leukoencephaothy Here are some key facts about my journey to recovery: . I was expected to die on New years eve 2017 . I was both completely locked in and in a pseudo-coma for approximately six months . I survived six months of home care hospice on comfort measures only . I was fully aware the entire time . I slowly showed my first signs of doctors thinking I might be “in there“ By beginning to be able to blink and a minor movement in my right wrist . In the mid July 2018 I became virtually locked in I could blink for no and stick out my tongue for yes . In the end of August 2018 I became a expert at nonverbal communication with a Megabee . January 1, 2019 I began to verbalize vowel sounds . Shortly there after I started getting mobility back in my arms legs etc. . July 2019 my entire body was antigravity. I was working on standing and pre-gait activities. I started communicating in full sentences I really want to share my story with others going through some more situations both family and patients. If anyone is interested in talking with me please feel free to contact me anytime. Check out my YouTube channel that I created to see how far I’ve come! A few months ago, I posted a gif of my paralyzed self walking in an exoskeleton and lots of redditors donated to my recovery fund. That money allowed me to spend the last five weeks at Shepherd Center doing physical therapy and cool stuff like this. Thanks Reddit!
