What is Probiotics?

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. We usually think of bacteria as something harmful, but your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are the good bacteria that help keep your gut healthy.

Is Probiotics trending?

Yes. Probiotics growing with a month-over-month change of 5.31% over the past 5 years, with approximately 301,000 monthly searches.

This is a seasonal trend that peaks every January. The seasonal demand is forecasted to decline over the next year.

Why is Probiotics trending?

1
Improves Digestive Health
Probiotics have been shown to improve digestive health by restoring the natural balance of bacteria in the gut. They can help alleviate symptoms of digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhea, and constipation.
2
Boosts Immune System
Probiotics play a crucial role in supporting a healthy immune system. They help stimulate the production of antibodies and enhance the activity of immune cells, which can help prevent and fight off infections.
3
Enhances Nutrient Absorption
Probiotics aid in the breakdown and absorption of nutrients from the food we eat. They help break down complex carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, making it easier for our bodies to extract and utilize the essential nutrients.
4
Reduces Inflammation
Certain strains of probiotics have anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce inflammation in the gut and other parts of the body. This can be beneficial for individuals with inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
5
Supports Mental Health
Emerging research suggests a connection between the gut and the brain, known as the gut-brain axis. Probiotics can influence the production of neurotransmitters and help regulate mood, potentially improving symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Do Probiotics Actually do Anything
So I was watching this video where a microbiologist kinda says most probiotics are not very efficacious because stomach acid kills their bacteria or something. How true is that? Aren’t there more types of probiotics or ways it can enter the digestive system? Like enteric coated. I want to try them to fix my gut but I’m skeptical if they do anything or not or if only certain ones have an effect. submitted by /u/AreYouSerious319 to r/Microbiome [link] [comments]

Didn’t expect a probiotic to affect my mood this much
I’m 24, F, and I started taking Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG mostly out of curiosity. I’ve had on-and-off digestive issues (bloating, random stomach aches) and figured it couldn’t hurt to try something that might support my gut. What I didn’t expect was the mental shift. About 5 days in, I noticed I was less irritable. Like, the little things that usually spike my anxiety just... didn’t. I wasn’t walking around in a cloud of dread. I felt more grounded, more patient. It was subtle, but real. I didn’t change my diet, routine, or anything else. Just added the probiotic. I’ve read that gut bacteria can influence neurotransmitters, but I didn’t think I’d feel it so quickly. It’s been 3 weeks now. Still feeling more emotionally stable, and my digestion is way better. I’m not saying it’s magic or that it’ll work for everyone, but it’s been a surprisingly positive shift for me. Anyone else had mood changes from probiotics? Curious if this is a common thing or just a fluke. submitted by /u/Terrible-Rice-6191 to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

Probiotics That Actually Work: A Strain Specific Guide
Most probiotics fail because people choose the wrong strain. Forget brands focus on clinically-studied strains for your specific issue. Target These Strains: * Bloating / IBS: Bifidobacterium longum 35624 (the strain in Align). Most proven for this. * General Digestion: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (in Culturelle). A robust, well-researched all-rounder. * Antibiotic Diarrhea: Saccharomyces boulardii. This is a yeast, not a bacteria, and is highly effective. The Forgotten Factor: Survivability If the probiotic can't survive stomach acid, it's useless. Spore-based probiotics (like Bacillus coagulans) or enteric-coated capsules are best for this. Refrigeration is also a strong sign of a quality product. (Disclaimer: I developed a probiotic drink in the UK. I've done a full transparent breakdown of these strains and the science on my site link in my profile. Happy to answer any questions here.) submitted by /u/PuzzleheadedYou4992 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

I’ve just looked it up and it contains soy so I would avoid. To me it looks like a massive marketing gimmick as it is just a combination of probiotics, black and kombucha tea and some soy peptides. You would get more GLP-1 boosting from eating a can of sardines a day which are a natural GLP-1. You can stimulate GLP-1 release by eating a high fat/protein and lower/low carb diet.

My baby and I had it last month. Pedialyte helped tremendously. I gave it to her in a syringe until she was able to tolerate drinking it out of a bottle. My pediatrician also recommended giving her 5 drops of baby probiotics twice a day and that helped with her diarrhea. It took about a week for her bowels to get back to normal. I just finished two months worth bottle. But honestly did not feel any different felt actually more constipated than usual. I was debating if I should try another brand . What is your best probiotic recommendation you are taking and swear by?
There are so many probiotics on the market ranging for $10 to over $100 per month supply. What probiotic are you taking that is a STAPLE in your stack that you’ve noticed the most benefit from? After many years of biohacking and research, and I’m realizing the majority of any true biohacking starts in the gut. The past 1.5 years I’ve been rotating different types of probiotics trying to get just the right type but I have been absolutely overwhelmed at the sheer amount of information. Currently I am taking: S. Boulardii L.acidophilus L. Salivarus + L. Plantarum + L. Probiotics fixed 99% of my symptoms
Just wanted to share my findings. I triggered methane SIBO 2 years ago after taking antibiotics. Since then, I’ve been through 3 rounds of herbals and 2 rounds of rifaximin but nothing worked. So, 3 months ago, I decided to switch strategy and tried to ADD bacteria instead of killing and I’m now symptom free. I was able to reproduce this twice, with two different brands. All my symptoms left: constipation, fevers, headaches, bloating, stomach aches. I now have regular BM after 2 years. No, I did not fix my problem, I still blow high methane, but this is the best temporary solution I’ve found. It removes so much desperation. Symptoms come back if I stop taking them. These two worked for me: Dr. ruscio Lacto-Bifiro probiotic blend 2.Flora Essential Plus by Sunday Natural. I did one round of Dr. ruscio’s and then kept going with Flora because it’s 3x cheaper and I was in Europe. I take 20B lactobif twice a day. First thing in the morning, last thing before bed. It takes 2-3 weeks to see the effects. Hope it helps submitted by /u/RegularConstant to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Probiotics has ruined my life 😭😭
I started taking probiotic after reading online about gut brain axis and I was suffering from dipression for past 7 years and from brain fog. My gut was messed up. So I decided to give probiotic a try. First i tried bacillus coagulan and i felt small relief and then i started using a multistrain probiotic along with bacillus coagulan. After giving positive results for some time it started to make me constipated severely, eczema on my both hands and vision problem at night( seeing double image of shinny objects like moon and billboard) Thereafter i stopped it and symptoms went away within couple of days. Then i researched online and decided to give lactobacillus rhamnosus gg a try. It's effect was also similar it provided some psychological benefits for couple of days and then made me constipated One night i woke up in middle of night due to extreme hunger it arised suddenly i eat 3 to 4 banana and within 5 minutes I was still hungry. Then in morning i decided to stop GG for couple of days . After some days i once again resumed GG this time I noticed I was feeling shortness of breath . I was still having those vision problem. Then i decided to try bacillus clausi. It removed my constipation issues but I was having weird stool it has weird consistency and different colour. Then one night while I was outside i feel unable to take deep breath from belly . Then I came back at my room , i lay in my bed and become conscious of my breath I tried to take deep breath but failed 7 to 8 time out of 10 time. Then i decided to visit hospital, The doctor check my oxygen level heart rate all were normal. He gave me a pill for anxiety and gas and a injection for same and told me to go and sleep peacefully. It's been around a month since I last took them. I still have shortness of breath nd those vision problems. Also I switch between these two states in one state my belly feel empty whatever I eat and also my brain , i feel like I have no brain and then after 5-6 day I switch to another state in which my belly weirdly feel full all the time . I don't know what to do. Is it possible that probiotic are still in my system. Please help submitted by /u/Educational_Gas1662 to r/Microbiome [link] [comments]

I think?? probiotics have saved my life
I’m so scared to make this post because I worry that jinxing is real and that if I write this down my luck will disappear but I know that’s not true😭😭I think I have finally (almost) cured whatever has been wrong with me for the past 6 months! I say almost because I do still experience VERY minor slight itching and burning once in awhile during the day but it’s so few and far in between that I don’t even notice it, I thought I had a yeast infection on and off for 6 months that fluconazole and boric acid didn’t fix, I got a swab that came back negative for everything but was still experiencing issues, someone on this sub suggested I may have no good bacteria in my vagina but no infection and that my ph was just off, so I started using happy v probiotics and holy shit! I am damn near better! I’ve had sex a few times since I started the probiotics and no clumpy discharge and extreme itching the day after or at all!! I cannot believe it, I will be a LIFETIME BUYER of this stuff, I don’t know if this is for sure what did the trick because I also took undecyn and caprylic acid for a few weeks and now I only take them a few days a week or if I feel a bit of an itch but wow, I have never been more relieved and thankful in my life, praying to god that this never comes back but I have a gyno appointment in April to make sure everything is fine so if god forbid this happens again between then and now I can get it fixed for good, just wanted to make this post so that ppl know there is hope it just depends on finding what works for you! :))) submitted by /u/NefariousnessOld7109 to r/Healthyhooha [link] [comments]

Yes, we have 2 independent lab studies (one at the manufacturer and another at the bottling service prior to shipping) We test the following: CFU viability/total count of lactic acid bacteria, yeast/mold, coliforms/E.coli, S.aureus, Salmonella, and L.monocytogenes. Are you FDA approved? We are not FDA approved Why not? Unfortunately, going through FDA approval is extremely expensive. Although we want to go through FDA approval process to gain more credibility, the funds required are too high for us at this current stage of the company. Plus it makes much more sense to go down FDA approval once we are going the clinical route (diagnosing and treating), which we aren't at the moment. That said, we will definitely be visiting this proposal in the future. Are you applying to grants or an IRB? Yes! We actually just finished out SBIR and in process of completing the application for an IRB. Why don't you market this as a "citizen scientist" project? Although we have a strong following with quantified self and citizen scientist, we believe the quickest way to advance this area is to get everyone involved. Unfortunately, not everyone classifies themselves as citizen scientist (which we believe they should!) and we want everyone to be included in our microbiome discoveries. Are you a medical diagnostic service / company? No we are not. We offer microbiome testing, diet recommendations, and probiotics. We do not provide diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and cures for diseases. Why do you have disclaimers about your product / service? We are very clear that we aren't solving medical issues and providing "cure-alls". We are in no way a medical device / therapeutic company. So we have to say the following: Thryve is not intended to diagnose a disease or other medical condition, or tell you anything about your risk for developing a disease or condition in the future. Thryve is not intended as a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment, and should not be used as the basis for a diagnosis or treatment. You should always consult your physician or health care provider about any health issues and before making any changes to your current care. Do you have any Ph.D's and medical staff? Yes, we have 1 Ph.D Candidate in Bioengineering and another Ph.D from Stanford on our team and another industry veteran Ph.D from Stanford in Bioinformatics. What type of sequencing do you conduct? We use Illumina MiSeq Machines to conduct 16s rRNA microbial sequencing on the v4 region that brings in roughly 10-15M reads per run. Do you keep my data and what are your guidelines on privacy? We allow all our users 100% access to their data and fastq files (raw microbial genetic data) and everyone can choose to opt-in as anonymized research participants. Or they can always opt-out. Do you plan to partner with research / hospitals / academia in the future? Absolutely. We are currently seeking out opportunities in this space to scale faster in our research and build credibility. We are small startup so it'll take some time. Bear with us! What makes you different from other companies in the space? Like uBiome, AmericanGut, etc...? First off, we love what uBiome, AmericanGut, and others are doing in this space. They have done an awesome job making microbiome science more mainstream, which means more research, funding, and discoveries. More accurate collection method. We noticed that the current dry swab and liquid buffers on the market were not preserving the microbes very well. Microbes tend to change based on temperature, environment, etc... Thus, there was a lot of noise with what was being sample vs. sequenced. We did some internal tests to ensure that our collection method made our sequencing more accurate. Diet recommendations. Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (still in process), to summarize 3000+ microbiome research articles displayed side by side with your own microbial profile for more education and data for informed decisions. Metabolism and Digestion metrics. We are utilizing KEGG pathways and FishTaco to provide insights to these parameters. More personalized probiotics (still in process). We currently, offer a standard cocktail of strains in our probiotics. The hope is that we collect more data and provide customized probiotics based on the machine learning and data provided by our users. Community Sharing and Journaling. We are building out a chatbot that asks our users daily about their lifestyle information (symptoms, diets, supplements, etc...) and that information gets funneled back into our system which makes the platform more powerful for users who submit their data, but also for everyone else on the platform. For instance, once we collect enough data users would be able to query the following [crohns_disease][USA][Male][top_3_overgrowth_bacteria][lifestyle_data_that_lowered_top3]. Yeast and Viruses. We have a yeast protocol coming out in Q3'17 and Viruses early '18 Are you available internationally (UK, Canada, Asia, etc...)? We will be in the next 3-6 months. Email us at support@thryveinside if you want to be updated. Are you snake oils salesmen or con men? No. We honestly are working hard on the science and have gathered experts in the field of machine learning, bioinformatics, and biology to help us work toward a common goal. To learn about the microbiome and help others. Feel free to check up our team here Do you offer discounts for first time customers? Yes, please email me at [email protected] or DM your email address How do you feel after the AMA? Fantastic. Honestly, it's been an awesome learning experience for myself and the team. We saw a split between 40% had negative sentiments about our product, 20% on the fence (need more credibility and data), 40% positive response and wanted to learn more. Although trolls are impossible to avoid on the internet, we genuinely believe there were scientist / concerned folks who had really great feedback and input. We thank everyone for their contributions. Maybe we'll do another AMA sometime in the future, once I crawl out of the fetal position :) submitted by /u/ThryveInside to r/IAmA [link] [comments]

TIL Scientists at UCLA noticed that "time and time again" people suffered their first experience with anxiety or depression right after stomach illnesses. They did brain scans after patients ate probiotics, and found that stomach bacteria actually directly affected connectivity of the brain.
