Living in an RV full time?
Hi! So I’m a single women and I’ve finally saved enough money to move out of my parents house…again. I’ve camped all my life. I have experience with fixing mechanical issues with tractors/ATVs and some house work. I’ve been thinking about getting a travel trailer and fixing it up and living in it full time. My plan is to live places for 3-4 months and then move. I already have my job situation sorted out. I would be working remote full time. I also have my wifi/internet situation sorted out. I’m going to go with a router through my phone company and I also have starlink as a backup option if needed. I want to get a dog or 2 for both protection and for company as I’m an introvert and don’t make friends easily. I have a good amount of money saved. I’m just looking for opinions/advice on what to move forward with. If I don’t go this route I would just get an apartment in my area although I rlly don’t want to do this as I have done this before and didn’t like it. I also want to travel and see the country while I’m still relatively young (30s) lol. Thanks so much for the feedback :) submitted by /u/Lonely_Soup9701 to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

Made the plunge to full time!
My long time gf and I are making the jump into full time Rv life within the next couple weeks. We are in our 20s and we see lots of younger couple making the switch for cheaper housing. We were thinking about Rv life the last 6 months or so then my gfs mom past away unexpectedly and it made us realize how short life is. We want to get out and enjoy our lives while we can and we were stuck with a $1300 rent for a small house, not including utilities and car payments and insurance, all the expenses we have in the modern day. We want to go closer to family (northern Michigan) for the summers and down in the warmer climates for the winters, I am a line cook and gf is a pharmacy tech so we can get jobs anywhere. We both work full time and have two cats so it will be an adjustment but we are very excited to start this new chapter in our lives, hopefully a less expensive less stressful lifestyle. Any younger couples with full time jobs that can offer advice? Any advice for traveling from up north to down south for the winters? Really any advice is helpful as it’s our first Rv and first time with full time Rv living so a lot of first and any help is appreciated! submitted by /u/Darkrai-Energy to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

I want to start living full time in an RV. What should I know first?
Me and my partner want to buy an RV and live in it full time. We think it’ll be cheaper than renting an apartment, but we’re aware it requires a bit more work. It’ll just me and her (no children and no pets) and we’re also hoping to travel to different states with it often. We haven’t bought it yet but theres a specific one we’ve been looking at. A 2003 Newmar Kountry Star for $9,000 on marketplace. Post says it’s in good condition and has a new battery. We also plan on hauling our actual car on the back of it when traveling. What should we know? Side question, whats a good website to find RV lots to stay at? submitted by /u/haruhifujioka07 to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

the full-time RV living saves money narrative is misleading most people who are considering it
I see it everywhere - posts about escaping rent, beating the housing market, living on $1,500 a month. And for a specific kind of person in a specific situation, it's true But the full picture: campground fees for full hookups in decent locations are $800-1,400/month in most of the country. Add fuel costs when you move, RV payments if you're financed, insurance designed for full-timers, accelerated maintenance from full-time use, and the unexpected repairs that hit harder because your home is also your vehicle The people saving real money are mostly boondocking heavily, already own their rig outright, or live in regions with cheap long-term sites. For everyone else, the math is closer to break-even with a modest apartment - with significantly more complexity This isn't an argument against the lifestyle. It's a genuinely great life. But the financial case deserves more honesty than it usually gets. What does your actual monthly cost look like? submitted by /u/StavrosDavros to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

Hello! Looking for advice on a Solar Build and any other general advice in living VanLife full time! New here and wanted to introduce myself :)
TLDR; Looking for advice on solar conversion and general advice on VanLife dream. Hey guys, I am definitely not new to Reddit but decided to create a separate account for everything related to my 1982 Chevy G30 TravelCraft Camper van, who I affectionately call “Gerald”. Gerald and I met a year ago this month and I am finally being able to get around to working on this beauty. Though the engine has only 60k miles on it, I think I am going to swap it out for an LS engine to help with torque and MPG. Might possibly do an EFI kit too. Anyway, I am VERY interested in doing a full solar conversion and much later down the line doing a fully electric motor with a diesel Genset backup. Would love to be as net zero as possible. I am a strong lover of nature, of being in harmony with our Mother Earth, and trying to reduce my harm. Unplugging from the machine of society and trying to find my peace. I love camping, love hiking, love exploring this great big beautiful world of ours, and like so many of you I want to hit all the National Parks in my lifetime! I am posting today to meet other likeminded people and ask your advice! I used Google Gemini, and researched on some blogs, websites, manufactures, etc and came up with what I think will be a fun project to add 3 solar panels to the roof. Attached are photos of Gerald, the solar panels I think I want to buy, and a list of equipment I’ll need. What do you guys think? Am I totally being steered in the wrong direction? Would you recommend different brands and why? I like the idea of all components being the same brand so they work best with each other, but is that not necessary? My long term goals for Gerald is to be able to live fully the VanLife dream. I am an electrician by trade, currently a 2nd Year Inside Wire Apprentice and would want to be able to fully live in Gerald and travel from jobsite to jobsite. submitted by /u/GoGeraldGo to r/CamperVans [link] [comments]

Thinking about switching to full time RV living, what do you wish someone had told you before you started?
Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time posting here. So I have been seriously considering making the jump to full time RV living for about 6 months now. I have done a lot of reading and watching videos but honestly the more I research the more questions I have. My situation is that I work fully remote so the job side of things is sorted. I am single, no kids, just me and my cat. I am so tired of paying rent every month for an apartment I barely enjoy and the idea of waking up somewhere new whenever I feel like it genuinely excites me. I have been looking at Class B vans and smaller Class C units because I don't want anything too big to drive and park. But I honestly don't even know if that is the right call for a beginner. Some things I keep going back and forth on, How do you handle mail and your address situation legally? Is one solar panel + a battery bank actually enough for everyday use? What do full timers do about healthcare and insurance? Do you ever just get lonely or burned out from moving around a lot? I am not looking for anyone to talk me out of it or into it, I just want to hear honest real experiences from people who actually live this way. The good stuff AND the hard stuff. What is something you really wish someone had warned you about before you started? Or something that surprised you in a good way? Any advice honestly appreciated. submitted by /u/Feeling_Lake9303 to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

Retired at 51 (married), sold everything and travel the USA in an RV full time. You can ask me anything about, travel, planning, cost, routines, etc.
My wife and I retired early so we could travel the USA in an rv full time. We sold our house and all our belongings in 2022. Our adult kids think we are a little crazy but we like it. We spend the winter months in Texas to be close to kids and grandkids and travel the rest of the year. We have been as far North East as Nova Scotia, and as far North West as Alaska. We have stayed in all but four states. Feel free to ask me anything about cost, budgeting, rv’s, living in tight quarters, and trips we have done. submitted by /u/Silver_Bullfrog_566 to r/AMA [link] [comments]

My wife Karine and I just completed our first week of full-time RV living, and honestly? It feels surreal. We're both in our early 50s. We raised 4 sons in our family home for 21 years. I ran a podcast production studio and we run a digital media agency. We had the "stable life" everyone talks about. And then we are selling everything to live full-time in our Grand Design Influence 2903RL with our two lovely dogs, Milo and Nala. **The hardest part wasn't downsizing or selling the house. ** It was the conversation with our four adult sons. How do you tell your kids, "Hey, we're selling the family home and living in a trailer"? We expected resistance. We got... support. They saw us truly excited about something for the first time in years. **What's surprised us most after one week:** **The freedom is overwhelming (in a good way)** - We've already slept at an actual church for two nights through Harvest Hosts, then spent time at Rocky Mount Mills surrounded by microbreweries. Every day feels like an adventure. **Our rookie mistakes hit HARD** - We made a major electrical system error when we bought our unit that cost us a lot of money. We then had to get a full solar system upgrade (800Ah lithium, 2000W panels, Victron inverter). Expensive lesson learned. **The RV community is incredible** - People just... help. No judgment. Just "here's what worked for us." **We should have done this 5 years ago** - That's the feeling we keep coming back to. **Quick stats:** - Ages: Early 50s - Relationship: 22 years together - Rig: Grand Design Influence 2903RL - Route: Started Quebec, heading south for winter - First major destination: Jacksonville (fingers crossed - they're predicting 75mm of rain for the Jaguars game Sunday!) For anyone else in their 40s-50s contemplating this: The scariest part is making the decision. Once you're on the road, it just... clicks. Happy to answer questions about the transition, dealing with family reactions, or our very expensive solar learning curve! submitted by /u/karineetFred to r/GoRVing [link] [comments]

Full time RV living with kids… shake of shame
Please for the love of God, how can we help the shake of the entire fifth wheel when having sex? We wait until they’re asleep, they’re on the far other end of the trailer, but they still wake up. I’m running out of excuses. We have the four metal legs down that’s about it. submitted by /u/Traditional_Mix_2612 to r/GoRVing [link] [comments]

Will I be considered homeless if I sell my home and live in an RV full time?
For context, I am an experienced RN, 38F with no children, just a couple of dogs. I have been travel nursing since 2018 and utilizing an RV since 2021 for work. I no longer work hospitals but work remotely in insurance as a nurse, in which I took a pay cut. I still make good money for the state I live in and I’ll do anything to keep from having to work a hospital again. I own a home and recently went through a very difficult separation. Love of my life, small town, we live close to each other. I just want to leave. Sell my home (which is already empty bc I had fully moved in with him) and live in my RV full time. Will men find this unattractive and consider me unstable if I choose this path? Will suitable men consider this a red flag? I’d love to go to the coast where two of my best friends live and just get away from the mess here. Plus if I sell my home, I’ll be debt free and can actually start saving. I’m familiar with RV life, I guess I am asking more for a social perspective and any insight from those who have done this already. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/LaurenAgnes22 to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

First month living full time in my RV , here’s what I’ve learned so far
I finally did it , sold my apartment, downsized my stuff, and moved into my RV full-time. It’s been just over a month now, and I’ve already learned more than I expected. Storage space disappears faster than you think. I thought I was ruthless about downsizing, but I still overpacked. Leveling is an art. I’ve had a few “rolling out of bed” mornings before I got it right. Boondocking is addictive. There’s something so peaceful about waking up in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors except the birds. The biggest surprise? How quickly this place started feeling like home. Sure, there are challenges , finding water, dealing with weather, and figuring out where to park next , but the freedom is worth it. Any tips from the more experienced full-timers here? I’m especially curious about your favorite boondocking spots and must-have gear. submitted by /u/CookArtistic3827 to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

RV living after spouse passes
My wife and I has been planning an RV life when i retired. she was an awesome home maker and raise two great kids into this world while i worked (34 years). I retired two years ago and we started emptying the house, excited, getting ready for full timing in a RV. Then she became ill and in 4 days, she passed. She wanted to be the navigator and i was the driver. i picture her on the tablet working out our next stops, fueling spots, or next resort to stop at. im at a loss now. my question is, who here still carried on to RV living with a loss of a spouse and did it for them? how did that work out? submitted by /u/Human_Arm_6089 to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

Full time RV living + Trojan Cat + Trojan Kittens = First Camping Trip
Our first camping trip!! I was a little nervous taking Pretty Girl & the babies, but equally as nervous leaving them with someone for 10 days. But she adapted to the litter box, so my hesitation disappeared. They’ve all done quite well in their new enclosure. The bebies are starting to actually walk vs waddle, and beginning to play with each other! It’s absolutely the cutest! I’m so glad we brought them! Nervous we shouldn’t be living in our RV
Just dropped off our RV for the first time for some maintenance and i am at a loss for words from the service member that was assisting us. For some back story: we decided to travel the country in an RV for a year. We bought an RV that our current truck could tow comfortably and leased out our house. We are 5 months into our travels. We’ve seriously been loving it, but recently noticed a few things that we thought could/should be looked at. We aren’t due for the first yearly inspection until April. We made an appointment and brought it in, I asked if there was a general thought of how long it would take to service it, as we are living in it. We can stay with family or hotels but wondered just a general time frame of what we were looking at. The service member helping up basically said the “industry frowns upon you living in it full time” To say his comment shook me is an understatement. This is the service center from the same dealership we bought the RV from, and they were so helpful on giving us lots of tips when purchasing it on getting it dialed in perfectly for our year adventure. Is this because it’s a bumper pull instead of a 5th wheel? Does the RV industry really frown upon us living in it? Also, one of the issues we’ve noticed over the past 3 days is it’s taking the furnace awhile to kick on (not normal for our RV) and wanted it looked at. He said it that’s fine as it can take 20 min to kick on. I told him, “well, that might be the standard, but with our RV it responds pretty much right away. It always has, and now it’s not… so for us, it doesn’t fee normal. Can you please add this line item?” i feel he was rude and dismissive and made me feel really incompetent, but is he right? We keep it very clean, organized and maintained on our end, so I’m super perplexed by all of this. Any advice? Thoughts? We wanted to upgrade to a new 5th wheel once the year of traveling is up, but i will definitely not be coming back to this dealership. 2024 Crossroads Cruiser Aire 28RKS submitted by /u/Sad-Gain-74 to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

How practical is full-time living?
Hi everyone. So I'm aware there are several posts on this topic in the general sense already, but my situation is kind of...specific, and i figured I'd just ask the people who might know best. I'm a recent college grad with an MA from a major research university in the midwestern united states. I am an archaeologist by training and am looking to hopefully start working in my field in the not-too-distant future. Of course, money is super tight, everything costs too much and I dont get paid enough, etc etc. I'm currently working on finding a job I can do remotely in the meantime to help me get up and running at more than "just barely above broke". But here's where my questions/ideas come in: Most archaeology jobs that people can get more or less out of the gate are semi-temporary. For example the Great Basin Institute runs several crews and such in several sites in california, nevada, and utah and needs people to staff them, but contracts are usually between 6-12 months. Its just me and the dog. So I figrued it might be easier (and cheaper, long term) to get one of those trailer RVs and get it set up for year-round living (internet, climate control, running water, a functional kitchen, a bed, somewhere for my dog, etc). I did some very rough preliminary research in my local RV dealer site and saw several models that would probably work, for whom I would wind up paying a monthly payment of about 1/5th what I currently pay for my rent (approx. 250/month). Obviously i know this is not the only expenses I would need to cover, but would this kind of idea be something that is at least feasible? Ideally I'd like to try to keep my expenses to around 1200$/month or less, and I know most of that will be eaten up by RV camping fees. I guess, what sort of break down would i expect to be looking at as reasonable in terms of how much $ or % of income should be going to ab or c, how feasible is it to live in one of those things year round, what sorts of things should i look out for or be aware of, etc? submitted by /u/Capitain_Underpants to r/RVLiving [link] [comments]

I am a Swedish Americana artist that live full time off my music. I tour in the U.S about 6 months every year and have been trough 47 states so far in my RV.
Hi I’m Sofia Talvik. I’m a Swedish artist and songwriter. My music is Americana/Folk based. I started touring full time in the end of 2011. I had a two year Visa for the U.S. I bought an big old RV in Florida (where RVs go to die), and with only 3 months of shows booked ahead I went on the road for one and a half year booking and traveling my way cross 37 states at the time. Now I’m on my third Visa and have been trough 47 states. Now I do about 180+ concerts every year divided between Europe and the U.S. Edit: I’m signing off but will answer a few questions when I have time. Music Store Here’s a short summary of some of the most common questions: I haven’t been to Alaska, North Dakota & West Virginia. Idaho and that area is my favorite place in the U.S. I usually play smaller listening type of venues like small theaters, listening rooms, concert series and house concerts. If you want to find out where I’m playing next, you can track me on Bandsintown and get updates when I play in your area: Bandsintown Here are my social links: Facebook Instagram YouTube Proof: My Instagram page posting a screen shot of this intro: https://instagram.com/sofiatalvikmusic submitted by /u/sofiatalvik to r/IAmA [link] [comments]
