As a large man, 6'8", 260. Could not be happier. All the reviews of the firm seat, that is actually what I am looking for, firm = support. Chair is wider than I envisioned, which is really what I need the most. I also paired with the floor mat, looks and feels clean since I did not want plastic or glass floor mats. My back is wrecked. Been working remote out of a $60 amazon chair for two years and my spine is filing a complaint. Can't justify a $1k secretlab, so i'm looking at dowinx instead. The price is solid around $200, the retro look is actually cute, the amazon reviews are wildly positive. But I know how amazon reviews work. When I dug deeper I saw stuff about the PU leather peeling after a year, creaky frames, the lumbar massage being more gimmick than function. Hi all, this is both a warranty and a review post. I am 5'8 (173 cm) and 210 lbs (~93-95kg). I got the XL chair because I sit cross-legged a lot and all I have to say is that this chair is insanely good. I have been postponing purchasing it for such a long time and now I wish I didn't do that. The quality of all materials, joins, packaging etc etc is amazing. Everything feels sturdy and expensive. I was worried because people said the seat is very hard. To me - it is not at all. It is supper comfortable and supportive. I have already spent 2-3 weeks in this chair (working from home + gaming, so long hours sitting) and it's all I wished for. My biggest struggle was to decide what size to go for. I clearly fit Regular pretty well, but I change positions often and after watching that video of some girls shorter than me prefering the XL over Regular, my mind was set. Just bought this chair 3 days ago after reading like 5 top articles on Google raving this is the best possible chair for gaming. Cnet, techradar....you're all being paid to lie. I wanted a cool new chair so I thought fuck it, time to splurge on a cool "best gaming chair" on the market. 3 days later, I realized I'm essentially being scammed out of $650. Let's start with deets: Bought the Secretlab TITAN Evo - Regular - SoftWeave™ Plus Fabric (0107) Soda Purple color. I'll start with the good: - fast shipping. I got the order by 12 pm on the 3rd day after I ordered (shipped to me in less than 72 hrs). - the look. The soda purple looks like the pics and is very pretty to look at. My boyfriend came home and was like "wow nice chair". Definitely gets attention and compliments. (UNTIL YOU SIT IN IT). - since there's no other plus, I'll throw them a bone: the packaging is great! Really cool box, nicely laid out packaging, clean sealing around seat cushions, and really ups the excitement factor as you unbox. Wtf? The lumbar adjustments knobs are a joke. You barely notice anything changing. They're hard to turn. I wanted real smooth ergonomic fluid movement, like a massage chair can deliver. Nope. This adjustment thing is pretty much nonexistent. My old office chair from Amazon for $135 is more comfortable, ergonomic, and softer than this. I SHOULD HAVE JUST STAYED HAPPY WITH THAT CHAIR AND NEVER LOOKED ASTRAY. The trusty Amazon chair is ugly, yes, and plain. But she works!!! Secretlabs chair is like putting makeup over a wooden stool. It's pretty, yes, but it doesnt work!!!! So don't buy it!! Every positive review is in SL's pocket. I also didnt read return policy before buying, because I'm used to 100% of all retailers i buy from accepting a return if I'm not happy with it with shipping covered or capped at $9.99. Apparently secretlabs wants you to keep their trash because they know they will have a million returns of their trash if they allowed free returns. Apparently it will cost $100+ to return this stupid chair. That's insane. I have returned $2000+ mattresses and couches and other expensive items before for FREE RETURN SHIPPING, which is how an honest company would operate. Selling an expensive chair and then stating we pay heavy item shipping to return at our own expense is quite literally the first time I've heard of such an egregious practice before, and I shop online every week!!! So now I'm stuck with a stupid chair no one is going to be able to use. I will be damned if I pay willingly $100+ to return an item and support this malicious practice. So a while ago, I made a poster explaining how secret lab was trying to actively scam me by not responding to my emails in a timely manner so that my warranty period would run out and I’d be unable to get a refund for the chair. It's been months since then, and I am now OVER 54 EMAILS DEEP with customer support, trying to return this thing. I was regularily bouncved between three people who were often clearly not even reading the emails I was sending, as their "responses" were not related to the questions I was asking at all. Now, I finally was able to drag the over 80+ pound box to multiple post carriers, only to be told that THEY CAN'T TAKE IT BECAUSE IT'S TOO HEAVY. And if that somehow wasn't enough, I was curious and got a price estimate anyways at each location, and it came out to OVER $300 that I would have to pay, JUST TO RETURN A CHAIR. SecretLab absolutely refuses to pay for the return label. Months ago, browsing this subreddit and talking to people who've return chairs before, they would usually pay around $100 in shipping (which is already outrageous, SecretLab is a MULTI BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY. There is no reason they shouldn't be paying for this.), with the most being $150 from someone living in Vancouver (shipping to Ottawa). I even knew that I, the consumer, would have to be the one paying for return shipping. I knew that. I had no way to know that this cost would be almost half of the damn chair. What the fuck am I supposed to do??? Secretlab: YOU should be paying for the return label, ESPECIALLY one this expensive. This is absolutely abhorrent. So bought a chair, comes in damaged box. So I throw that away build the chair and get excited to use my new chair. Well sit in for 20 minutes and boom worst back ache ever. So adjust try again same thing. Goes on two days of pain, decide to return it. Contact them and a week of ring around and back and forth emails and they still wont say if I can return it or the process. Worst customer service ever. Chair is awful for me but the worst part is the terrible customer service. As it stands I am stuck with a £500 lump of nothing. After a tremendous search for the right chair for my set-up, I finally settled for the Secretlab TITAN Evo NanoGen edition. I am a computer engineer and I work from home, so I need a sturdy and comfortable chair that supports my body in a good posture. That is the key difference there from someone else that wants a chair that is fluffy and full of pillows. I read a large post from a SecretLab employee that after rigorous research, they concluded to a specific stiffness to the base, but that was the correct way to go, for a long-lasting and posture correcting chair. Initially, I mean the first time I sat down, the chair felt very hard, but after just 2 weeks, I have to say I don't regret my decision! My body needed a few days to adjust and also I feel the base to have softened just a bit. The important thing is MY ASS DOESN'T HURT even after long hours. That is the fundamental improvement in my daily life now. Other than that, the quality is excellent, as any other SL product I have ever purchased, I was sure about that. I just got my SecretLab Titan Evo last night. I was stoked until I noticed damage on the box. "Oh great that can't be good...." Started opening it up to review inside and sure enough, the right armrest was broken. It was pushed inward a little and I noticed it was loose and then fell off when I touched it. I checked the left one and it was firmly attached. Noticed that the armrest design had screws that should have kept it in position from when it was produced - no way I am able to screw them back in without damaging it. Or at least it's not something I want to risk anyways. I went through and examined the rest of the components and everything else checked out though! Kind of killed the mood for a moment when I saw it but the rest of the chair is great. I did submit a ticket to support, so fingers crossed on getting the armrest or bottom half replaced! My Titan has reached the end of it's lifespan and I figured I'd put together a few thoughts I originally bought the chair in early 2020 as i was working from home during the day and gaming at night. I figured I should invest in a quality chair. I am 6'3 and was 24 years old when I bought the chair. my body weight has fluctuated from around 170-205 during ownership. I bought the fake leather version. I think I spent something around $600 CAD at the time. After 5 years enough components have broken that it needs to go. Assembly - assembly was easy. packaging was nice & felt reasonably premium. took probably less than 15 mins to put together. Comfort - It's well known these are stiff chairs. I don't think I am particularly picky with these things so I'm really not the guy to ask, but it was fine. What Broke: - out of the box, the left armrest was broken. I had this replaced for free under warranty. - after a few months the seat had some kind of wire constantly poking up the back of my right knee. It has since punched a hole through the leather and the material in that area is pretty worn down. - after about 3 years the pump broke and would constantly slowly let out air. This was not replaced under warranty ($150~), I needed to buy a new component. - after about 4 years something broke within the mounting bracket. The chair's default position now has you lurched forward a few degrees while in a normal seated position. The times I've had other people sit in the chair, they get startled and feel like they're going to fall over - after about 5 years the pump began leaking a black oil/lubricant on the floor - the plastic on both armrests is cracking and falling off - the lumbar support knob will not stay fixed on the chair, I need to keep it on my desk for then i need to adjust lumbar support What held up: - the back rest still looks good aside from the lumbar knob falling off. - the wheels also still work well. Customer Service - service has been great. responsive and replacing parts is easy. Overall thoughts - I'm pretty disappointed with the quality overall. Cost of ownership has been about $150 per year with a lot of broken parts. I bought a cheaper chair to replace it and my first impressions have been a lot better. This post is for anyone like me that had doubts when I read simple, negative comments when secretlabs came up in discussion. The comments like "they're shit" were not convincing, and when I went down the youtube rabbit hole of reviews on the chair it seemed like the standards here were too high. Then after sitting in this chair for about 3 years the left armrest snapped off. Inside I discovered 4 small screws (looked like drywall screws) installed into plastic holding the armrest to the arm of the chair. The company has already replaced the armrest at no cost, even though I'm past the warranty period. So still good service, but the quality of the chair now seems like a scam. Everything seemed so well-built up until this problem. Reddit randomly suggest this sub to me, and thought I might share my experience since I believe I've had this chair longer than most at this point. Overall rating As I mentioned in the title, I would rate it about 5/10 overall. Perfectly average, no more no less. 2025 update: at the current price tag my rating would drop to a 4/10. For reference: I bought it for around €370 back in 2017. A similar chair at the moment costs about €550-€600 in my area, so a pretty hefty increase in price and not a lot of improvements to the chair to justify it. At this price point there are almost certainly better options out there. It's an okay chair in the sense that it's provided a surface for my buttocks to rest on for the past 5.5 years. It also wasn't extremely expensive when I bought it if you compare it to actual ergonomic office chairs, and it looks kind of fun. That being said, I don't believe it's the second coming of Christ in the form of a chair, like some of the reviews and pitches on their website would have you believe. It also has gotten quite a bit more expensive since I bought it. Comfort The chair is harder than I'd like. I wouldn't have picked it if I were to test chairs in a store, but it also hasn't caused me any issues. I remember when I just got it I was switching away from a really cheap, basic office chair, and I honestly sat more comfortably in that one because it wasn't so damn stiff. When I still had that old chair, I would return to it every now and then just to see if my opinion had changed yet, but every time it would almost be a relief to sit on my soft, cheap office chair compared to my SL Titan. Nevertheless, I paid significant money to get my hands on this new chair, so eventually I convinced myself to just commit to it and I got rid of the old chair. People say the stiffness is a feature and not a bug because it's better for sitting long periods of time. Personally I'm not convinced of this, I never had issues sitting extended periods in softer chairs, and find them generally more comfortable. Even after 5.5 years of sitting in my stiff SL Titan, I still find myself pleasantly surprised when I sit in another chair and sink into an actual soft cushion. The stiffness has not changed over the years, it's still very stiff 5.5 years later. But like I said, luckily I'm young and healthy, so whilst the stiffness isn't my ideal choice, it also hasn't been a real issue for me. A bigger problem is that I don't find it comfortable when sitting upright because the curves of the backrest don't match the natural curves of my spine. This is probably in part because I am in the upper range of what they marketed the chair for. They market it for 175-200 cm and I am 192 cm tall. Truth is, I don't think it's fair to market any chair to a range as big as 25 cm if it doesn't have an adjustable backrest. Someone who is 175 cm tall is going to have an entirely different seating experience compared to someone who is 200 cm tall. The chair is going to be perfect for one particular length and body shape, and mine isn't it. If you're lucky the chair fits your body and you won't have any issues, if you're not, you can't adjust it so you're screwed. As a result, I sit in it permanently reclined because that way my back shifts downwards with respect to the backrest and the curves match my spine better. But sitting permanently reclined is not ideal. Mine has an inbuilt lumbar support, which I really liked when I bought it. However, in the end just a simple cushion would have been better because you can adjust the location. The inbuilt lumbar support is too low for my back, and you can't adjust the location, so it's kind of useless. It also doesn't protrude as much as I would need it to to fully support my back, so even if the location was correct, it still wouldn't suffice. The armrests on my model were made of a kind of hard plastic rather than a soft cushion, which is just very uncomfortable. I believe they've improved this on the newer models, but in all honesty they never should have shipped any chairs with hard plastic armrests. It's just extremely cheap and uncomfortable. Quality and longevity My chair has significant peeling on the seat base. I'm not entirely sure how long ago it started because it started off small, but it's definitely started over a year ago. Secretlab knows this is an issue because they have dedicated programs for replacing seats and backrests, but for my model that requires you to pay extra money as far as I'm aware. Given that I'm not 100% sold on this chair, personally I'm not going to spend any more money on it. I will just sit in it until it disintegrates and then buy an entirely different chair, and it won't be a Secretlab chair to be honest. The arm rests have begun coming loose also since about a year now, and there is now considerable slack in them that you can feel if you pull on them. I'm not sure how much longer they will last before they come off entirely. Apart from these two things (which are considerable, don't get me wrong) the chair is still holding up well after 5.5 years. Marketing and customer support I don't believe all the reviews it gets. I don't think they're playing a wholly honest game. With deals like "get XX deal if you leave a photo of your chair on social media" you can tell their marketing strategy is generating hype over an honest reputation. Based on the experience of others, the customer support seems to be horrible, though I haven't sampled it myself since I prefer to just avoid it altogether if I can. The primary reason I kept the chair after finding out it wasn't very comfortable is because I could tell it was going to be more trouble than it's worth to send it back. I'm personally situated in Europe, so dealing with a return to a company in Singapore is obviously going to be a pain. I believe you should take this into account when purchasing the chair, it's a risk and it's going to be a pain to return it if you don't like it. First off, I just want to say I've sat in many different chairs at the office, I rarely ever notice discomfort in any of the chairs I usually sit in, it's basically an after thought. Ever since I started working from home I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade from my Ikea Markus chair. I was looking into Herman Miller and SecretLabs. Overall the cost of a Herman Miller chair was the deciding factor and I was very pleased with the overall aesthetics of the Secretlabs chair (oh boy was that a mistake) So when I placed my order and the chair arrived I was already very suspicious of the packaging. Very heavily taped up box seemed used for some reason and had damp spots to it. Upon opening the box you can smell right away a very strong musty chemical odor. Everything was neatly packaged and sealed so I thought nothing of it. Assembly was easy but, that was probably the only easy thing. After assembly I noticed the chair was slightly tilted and not leveled. I also tried reassembling the chair again making sure everything was aligned, no difference. Upon sitting in the chair you can tell it was very firm, The seat pan at the end of the chair is poorly designed. The lip of the chair tilts upwards cutting blood circulation to your legs. My back and legs honestly started hurting after a few mins. There's also a very strong chemical odor which became unbearable as your body warms up. The smell had gotten into my clothes and everything in my room, I basically had to leave the chair outside for the day. Next thing I did was reach out to customer service. Had explained the problems I was having with the chair, sent them pictures and VIDEOS of the chairs defects. Their CS Rep told me with any new product there will be a breaking in period, same with the chemical odor as it will dissipate overtime and they would send me a fabric cleaner to speed up the process but, had ignored the chairs other defects. Their initial response time was fast but, as soon I asked for a return and refund route his response became very delayed and would have an excuse after another excuse to the slow response times. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! Their customer service is the worst, close to 20 emails and still waiting on a response. They had told me to ship back the product in the original box and packaging but, that was not ideal for me as I had threw out the box because of the smell. Why do I have to pay for shipping costs if they sent me a defective product? I was basically getting 1 email response a day or every other day at this point. After a few days and emails later we agreed they would have a courier pick up the chair but, I would need dissemble and purchase a box big enough to put the chair in. This was also not ideal because I would have to buy additional tools to dissemble the hydraulic system on the chair and I was not going to spend anymore money or go out of my way. He then stated they would ship a box to me but, would have to confirm with their other support team and would let me know. Haven't heard back from him in 5 days, totally ignored. Going to have to submit a chargeback now and go out of my way just to get my money back. Conclusion: You're honestly better off with any other chair and company and I hope this review can help someone from making a bad decision. The chair is overhyped with hefty marketing tricks and paid youtube sponsors. You cannot leave a review on their homepage yet they have 25000 positive reviews and only 22 negative ones? Ratio seems a bit off. Do some research and you'll see that majority of their reviews are bot generated, even the negative reviews lol (majority of them make no sense or are they same). They have a whole team on reddit downvoting every negative review and posting false reviews on saying how this is most comfortable chair and it's preference. Comfort is not a preference, if your shoes are too small and they hurt that's not a preference. This chair is honestly very uncomfortable but, hey if you think I'm lying then try it out for yourself but, beware their return policy. Everyone I know that tested my chair said it was uncomfortable and noticed the same problems. Their shady return policy is to keep you from returning their product. You'll be paying close to $200 additional dollars in shipping costs and tools just to get a refund. Just know if you buy a Secretlabs chair and don't like it or it's not for you. You can expect to go through the same customer service help or lack there of as I am. I do not wish this experience upon anyone but, happy chair hunting and best of luck to everyone.
