Pregnant and planning. I've heard that we should put a rocking chair in bubs room for nurcing and soothing. It's a small room, and I feel like it would be better to get a pull-out single chair/bed, so one of us can sleep in there sometimes if needed. I honestly have no words. I (27) just bought my house in july 2024. We have learned that most of the neighbors are all old as hell.( i think these neighbors are 60s +) and are very nosey and onery that young families are moving into the neighborhood in recent years. They will just walk up to you and tell you this. I have been shopping thrift and estate sales to furnish this cute house. This morning, I came home from an estate sale with a BEAUTIFUL wingbacked rocking chair. (It needs to be reupholstered as the leather that was on it is in terrible condition and the previous owner started pulling it off. ) Im unloading it from the bed of my truck when neighbor , Carol, sticks her giraffe neck over the fence and starts squawking about how beautiful it is . I said thanks i got it at an estate sale for $10! This triggered the parasites in her brain and she, i shit you not, teleported over to the truck. She starts going off about how much she needs a chair to rock her grandkids to sleep in and how much she would appreciate it if it was hers. I told her I got it for my future babies to be rocked to sleep in and that it still needs lots of work before it can be used. This is when she starts offering me money ($15 because " its more than what you paid for it") then telling me i dont need it because i dont have kids yet and her grandkids are only little for so long. After firmly telling her i wasn't interested in selling it, she offered me $20. I was standing in the bed of the truck looking down at her on the driveway and firmly said "No, Carol im really not interested in selling this. Please go home." And pointed to her side of the fence. Apparently this was shouting at her and being aggressive. She ran home and later in the day her husband said something to my husband as he was getting home from a game. Telling him i (edit:" spoke to her like a dog" ) and was being a "nasty neighbor" and that my husband needs to "straighten me out." Are my neighbors nuts? Was I that rude to her? ( I tried to attach a photo of the chair but i cant attach it on this community) Edit : I meant no offense when I said " old as hell". I know that 60 is only "half"way through a life time. 24w ftm - have had my heart set on getting a comfy cushioned rocking chair for nursing and rocking the baby when she arrives - however i'm apprehensive to spend any more money than i should if it's not practical (and also our baby's room is quite small). Is this more of an old fashioned thing or do people still invest in these, and do they help a lot in soothing the baby? I have a rocking chair that has been in my family for generations, it is similar to this It was made in the 1800s, my grandmother gave it to me because I love it. Two of my husbands cousins (brother and sister, let’s call them Jana and Steve) were evicted from their apartment and they asked to stay with us for a couple of weeks because need time to catch up. I am pretty close with Jana, she was even a brides maid in my wedding. Jana is a torrid size 3 ( I know from ordering her brides maid dress). I have no problem with her weight, however I worry about my chair. I don’t want it to break. I was not sure she would even fit in the arms of the chair. We were all hanging out in the kitchen talking, having wine, standing around the island that is half in the living room half in the kitchen. Our bar stools are a bit dainty, so Jana walks over to my chair and picks it up (almost dragging it) as she was walking over with it, I was like “no no no, can you use a different chair? I don’t like people sitting in that chair.” I directed her to a metal chair that I brought recently. She responded saying that she had seen me with my baby in the chair, and had also seen my husband in the chair. I explained that the chair was very old, and that I wanted to keep it for a long time. I told her she could use a cushion to make the metal chair more comfortable if it was uncomfortable. She got angry about the whole metal chair thing, and went off asking what I was trying to say. Eventually I was like; “look I don’t want you to break my chair, people weren’t as big back then, the carrying capacity is lower.” That set her off. She said “ so you think I’m so fat I break chairs?” I said, “well I don’t want to test and see with this one.” she told my husband to “mind me”. She dropped my rocking chair back in it’s original location and took her wine upstairs. She and her brother are “threatening” to leave (they are staying here for free) if I don’t apologize. My husband wants me to apologize for saying she would break the chair, he thinks I should move it into our bedroom until they leave. I think that it’s nonsense. Jana is too big to sit in my chair, she should understand that and sit somewhere else.
