RE:What if "Unity" became Warcraft's greatest horror instead of its greatest hope?
Funny enough, that’s exactly what inspired it. The horror isn’t peace—it’s mistaking assimilation for progress. The scariest monsters don’t force conformity—they convince you it’s an upgrade. Every assimilation begins by calling itself an improvement—right up until the desire to become “better” quietly erases the self.

Self-Improvement Can Become Procrastination
10 Levels of Fake Progress Fake progress is one of the sneakiest traps in self-improvement, because it feels productive while quietly protecting you from the part that actually changes anything. What is fake progress? It is preparation, research, planning, buying, optimizing, and talking about action without letting reality test you. That is why it is so addictive. Watching a 2-hour discipline video gives your brain a clean story: “I am becoming better.” Saving 400 workout clips feels like building a system. Writing a perfect morning routine feels like discipline. Telling people your goals gives you a tiny social reward before you have earned the result. None of these things are evil by themselves, but they become a problem when they replace the uncomfortable step they were supposed to support. Real progress usually has friction. You send the message, write the page, do the bad first workout, publish the imperfect post, clean the room, practice the skill for 15 minutes, or make the small decision you keep avoiding. It is not always aesthetic. It does not always feel like a movie montage. Sometimes it looks stupidly small, which is exactly why people underestimate it. Examples: Watching editing tutorials for weeks, but never exporting one ugly first video. Building a perfect Notion dashboard, while the actual task sits untouched. Buying a course, then spending more time organizing the lessons than doing the exercises. Researching the best workout split, when a 20-minute walk would already be a win. Rebranding your project again, instead of showing it to one real person. Reading productivity books to avoid the simple task written on your desk. The cure is not to hate planning. Planning helps when it points toward action. The problem starts when planning becomes a comfortable costume for avoidance. A tiny real action gives you feedback. Fake progress only gives you the feeling that you are close. submitted by /u/elmorinelly to r/DumbFact [link] [comments]

Do you ever feel like women are stuck in a constant self improvement loop for no apparent reason?
I’m just thinking. I’m 37, I am constantly working out, getting needles stuck in my face, going to hair appointments, taking care of my skin, trying to expand my knowledge, trying to resolve my trauma on my own because therapy is too expensive, trying to be a good daughter/sister/friend girlfriend, trying new recipes, trying to learn different ways to make income. And men are doing what exactly? I don’t even see any benefit from it. I could have put all the money I have sunk into my looks into a 401k and just given up on men and my life would have been better for it. I feel like I am just stuck on this hamster wheel of trying to become the perfect woman but the way I’m treated by men never improves so what is the point? submitted by /u/Correct_Jicama2655 to r/AskWomenOver30 [link] [comments]

Anthropic: Recursive Self Improvement Is Here. The Most Disruptive Company In The World.
From a behemoth Time article: https://time.com/article/2026/03/11/anthropic-claude-disruptive-company-pentagon/ Model releases are now separated by weeks, not months. Some 70% to 90% of the code used in developing future models is now written by Claude. But the rate of change is such that Anthropic co-founder and chief science officer Jared Kaplan, as well as some external experts, believes fully automated AI research could be as little as a year away. “Recursive self-improvement, in the broadest sense, is not a future phenomenon. It is a present phenomenon,” says Evan Hubinger, who leads Anthropic’s alignment stress-testing team. 70-90% is much higher than I expected. After hours of work, they still weren’t sure whether the new product was safe. Anthropic ended up holding up the release of the new model, known as Claude 3.7 Sonnet, for 10 days until they were certain. How ridiculous. I wonder how many other models have been delayed over "safety" fears. Reminds us of how Sutskever said GPT-2 was too dangerous to release. Anthropic is using Claude to accelerate the development of future, more powerful versions of itself. Staff believe the next few years will be a pivotal test, for the company and the world. “We should operate as if 2026 to 2030 is where all the most important things happen—models becoming faster, better, possibly faster than humans can handle them,” says Graham. Dario Amodei has warned that AI could displace half of entry-level white collar jobs in one to five years, and urged the government and other AI companies to stop “sugar-coating” it. Wall Street’s reaction to new Anthropic product drops suggested that the company’s tech could render entire job categories obsolete. Amodei suggested it might reorder society in the process. “It is not clear where these people will go or what they will do,” he wrote, “and I am concerned that they could form an unemployed or very-low-wage ‘underclass. Very commending that Anthropic does not sugarcoat this like other companies do. But I'm surprised they are not vocal about solutions like universal basic income. Anthropic was happy for its tools to be deployed in war fighting, arguing that bolstering the U.S. military was the only way to avert the threat of authoritarian states like China. "The real reasons [the Department of Defense] and the Trump admin do not like us is we haven’t donated to Trump,” Amodei wrote in a leaked internal memo. "We haven’t given dictator-style praise to Trump (while [OpenAI CEO] Sam [Altman] has), we have supported AI regulation which is against their agenda, we’ve told the truth about a number of AI policy issues (like job displacement), and we’ve actually held our red lines with integrity rather than colluding with them to produce ‘safety theater.’ It may have believed it could navigate the choppy waters on the path toward superhuman machines safely, in a way that would make taking such immense risks worthwhile. Instead, it had raced immense new surveillance and war-fighting capabilities into the heart of a right-wing government—and been undercut by competitors the moment it tried to set limits on their use. Lots of juicy details in this article. Everyone should read it in its entirety. submitted by /u/Neurogence to r/singularity [link] [comments]

Trying a shame-free approach to self-improvement this year
After years of having the worst self-esteem known to man, I’ve been trying to take the steps necessary to tackle it this year. I’ve always liked the idea of those calendars where you cross off the days, especially when the colours get darker as you go. But I find them kind of demotivating - if you miss a day, goodbye to your streak. If you miss too many days in a month, your calendar is empty and it can feel like there’s no point in filling in any more days. So I’m trying a different approach this year. I’m going to try to see every effort I make, however small, however infrequent, as a drop in the bucket towards my improved wellbeing. It’s better to have tried sometimes than to not have tried at all. To that end, I’m hoping to literally visualize each drop with a little pom pom. I’m hoping that whenever I do something, I can drop a Pom Pom into the bucket to clearly show myself that I’ve taken a step forward. Hopefully, at the end of the year, even if I’ve only done intermittent efforts, I’ll be able to see that I pushed forward and made progress. And hopefully being able to visualize some progress will help motivate me? Maybe? Sadly, this is the only jar I have, and as you can see, it is majorly outsized. Maybe I’ll get another one, but I’ll probably forget 😂 Wish me luck! submitted by /u/andlife to r/adhdwomen [link] [comments]

Self improvement is a joke if you have shit genetics
I bet there are probably tons of guys like me, who always get told to “work on yourself” even though you’ve been doing that for years and made a ton of. progress and still are absolutely invisible. I pushed myself so hard and even did the thing most guys are afraid to do which is approach women and still got only rejected and ghosted. Never had a gf, never had sex, never had a girl be attracted to me and I’m almost 22. The only thing all of this hard work and effort has taught me is that there’s no amount of effort that can replace the way you were born, there are so many guys who never had to do any of the shit I had to do and have had plenty of relationships with women. Some of my friends have no goals or future and yet still have had plenty of women and are experienced. Nothing I do matters anymore. I could work as hard as possible and own a six figure business and the result would still be the exact same as if I was to sit around in my room all day and play video games and do nothing. And I think it’s because what people really care about is the shit I can’t change and have no control over. No girl ever cared about my effort or genuine attempt to get to know them, because I was born so short and ugly. The worst part is this makes me incredibly angry and bitter and I’m starting to hate everyone around me almost as much as I hate myself. I get pissed off at everything now and everytime I hear some stupid ass advice like “work on yourself” I want to rip my hair out of my fucking scalp. Fuck everybody who bullied me when I was younger, fuck my parents, fuck me, fuck women, and fuck the world. Somebody put me here to suffer and no matter how hard I work nothing ever matters. I hate it here submitted by /u/OrneryManufacturer28 to r/malementalhealth [link] [comments]

Unpopular opinion: Dressing well is the most underrated form of self-improvement
We sometimes talk endlessy about lifting weights, optimizing sleep, and reading non-fiction. But when you mention "fashion" in self-improvement circles, people roll their eyes. I was one of them. "Clothes don't make the man," right? Here's what I missed: Dressing well is a form of self-respect. For the longest time, I treated my appearance as an afterthought. I'd workout for an hour but then throw on whatever was cleanish. The disconnect was huge. I was putting in effort to build a better body/mind, but I was wrapping it up in apathy. One day, I was getting ready for a coffee meeting and caught myself in the mirror. Lean-built shoulders, but wearing a faded graphic tee from college and jeans with holes in the knees. Not intentionally distressed, just old. So I thought, "If I saw someone else like this, would I think they had their shit together?" The answer was no. So I started dressing with the same intentionality I brought to the gym. Nothing very fancy. Just... deliberate. Well-fitted basics. Clean shoes. Clothes that looked like I picked them on purpose. The difference in how I carried myself was immediate. Not just because other people noticed, but because I was finally treating the outside with the same respect I was giving the inside. Anyone else feel this disconnect, or am I overthinking my hoodie collection? submitted by /u/Omega0Alpha to r/selfimprovement [link] [comments]

The Difference Between Male and Female Self Improvement Content
I've noticed a big difference in how men and women approach self improvement. A lot of guys, especially in incel spaces, get really into looksmaxxing, which is all about optimizing your appearance. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good, but for some, it stops being about self improvement and turns into an unhealthy obsession. It becomes a competition: "I have to mog everyone," or "I can't let myself be mogged." At that point, it’s not about feeling good in your own skin anymore, it’s about constantly comparing yourself to others and feeling like you're never enough. Then there’s the whole "PSL gods and goddesses" thing, where people obsess over who’s at the top of the beauty hierarchy. Discussions about who's more attractive start feeling like Pokémon battles, ranking, comparing, and tearing people down. It creates this toxic mindset that if you’re not the best, you’re worthless. In the end, it’s about looking better on the outside but feeling worse on the inside, which can push some guys deeper into insecurity and even inceldom by promoting this warped reality. Now, compare that to the female version: glow ups. Women haven’t always been the best at body positivity (heroin chic, tapeworm diets, yeah, not great), but things have improved. There’s more encouragement to love yourself. Sure, beauty focused content is still everywhere, but it’s often paired with motivational stuff, TED Talk-style videos about confidence, productivity, and just being a better person. The goal isn’t just to look better but to feel better too, which makes a huge difference. At the end of the day, both men and women engage in self improvement, but the messaging is completely different. One path encourages self acceptance, while the other fuels self hatred. That’s why you see so many looksmaxxing channels mocking women who are confident in themselves, because to them, self love is arrogance. It’s like, "How can you be happy with your body while I hate mine? How dare you not feel the same?" And that’s the real issue. One side builds people up, the other tears them down. submitted by /u/kawisescapade to r/IncelTears [link] [comments]

Self Improvement Guide | Everything Which Worked For Me
Disclaimer: Everything I've shared here is not technically my own trick. I picked it up from various sources. They were just so good that I thought to share them. Also, I'm not Elon Musk myself, just a simple guy trying to improve my trajectory. I am writing this for anyone who needs a guide to improve themselves in all aspects. I'll start with some things to set yourself up and then some great habits. Nothing here is rocket science. Most of these things you've probably heard of already. THIS IS THE TIME TO IMPLEMENT THEM, THIS IS A SIGNAL FROM GOD. Here are my 2 cents: Have a Purpose Why? You cannot take a ship anywhere without knowing the final destination. Unlike ships, it's technically impossible to decide/predict where your final destination would be, but having a purpose/goal will help you navigate. Now, your purpose doesn't have to be something very complex. It can be as simple as getting good grades, losing weight, or earning some money. After deciding your purpose, quantify it. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, write on paper that you'll lose 10 kg in the next 90 days. A simple tip: Make it realistic so you don't feel burned out while achieving it. Here comes the main part, FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN DO. You technically cannot change your body hormones BUT you can for sure hit the gym 4X a week and run for half an hour every day. So, make that your ACTION PLAN. That's what you should focus on and follow. Remove Junk Now that we have decided our direction, we shall remove the roadblocks. Cut out ALL the junk habits. This includes: P*rn, Mast*rbation Cigarettes, Alcohol, Drugs TV shows, Movies, News (a lot of people don't consider this junk but, it's equally time/energy sucking) Social Media, Video Games An exception could be social media that makes you money or helps you gain knowledge. You know what's best for you. Other things just don't make sense to do; they suck time/energy from your life and give you nothing in return. "But but but, how will I rejuvenate?" Talk to your family/friends, go on long walks, write something, create something. Rejuvenation ≠ consumption. Remove junk food too. A small list: Vegetable oils (if you have to eat it, go for cold-pressed ones) Sugar High fructose corn syrup (STAY MILES AWAY FROM THIS) Processed/refined foods (oils, flour, etc.) Add Good Habits After removing the trash, add good habits to your daily routine. I'll list some great (necessary, to be honest) ones: Waking up early Drinking more water – Start with a glass as soon as you wake up Exercise – Make your own routine. If you don't have one, start with 30 crunches, 30 pushups, 30 squats. If this seems easy, increase the count. Meditation – Can start with guided meditation if you've never meditated before; you'll eventually have to move away from guided meditation. Read – Try to read something that interests you. Pick anything: computer science, health. It could be anything as long as it teaches you something. 30-60 minutes daily. Journal – Very important. Reflect on your day. Try to answer these questions: What did you achieve? What didn't you? What could have been better? etc., you get the point. Eat good food – Try to incorporate more protein in your food if you're obese. Protein should be declared a fat killer, to be honest. It helped me kill my hunger by eating small portions. Work towards your mission- Most important, spend at minimum an hour working towards your goal. Intermittent fasting – Optional, but this helped me lose like 15 kg, and I could focus better most of the day. Other Additional Tips Don't demotivate yourself. When your friend comes to you crying about a situation, you don't put him down. You try to console him. Be that friend for yourself. Whenever something bad happens, don't call yourself a loser. Tell yourself that you'll do better next time. Our internal monologues have long-term impacts on us. It is hard to fix it in a day but start today. Adding to this, start reframing problems as opportunities. In two words, be optimistic. Have a proper morning routine. Add showering and coffee (optional) to it. Final words I know all this sounds very basic but most of us fail to do all of it together. I would say in short you gotta have a purpose, remove all the junk from your life and start walking towards that mission/purpose/goal. I am happy to help people in comments if they have any doubt. All of the information which I gave here actually is from a book I read. It has much more information. If you want to get it, click on the button under the about section on my profile which says, "Get Disciplined". submitted by /u/Savings-Arrival-7817 to r/getdisciplined [link] [comments]

What I learned in 4 years of Self-Improvement... I teach you in 5 mins...
Books are kings If you seriously SERIOUSLY want to obsessively (like me) improve your life... Please... Understand that Youtube, Courses or whatever the hell on the internet is... Incomparable towards... Books... I've learned 10000x more from a book than Youtube, Articles, Courses combined. And I know why you don't want to read... Because it's boring... But that's also why they're king, it's because no one wants to read... (Some people in the comments were saying it depends on the learning style of someone... But honestly... It really doesn't matter what your learning style because... If you truly read a book "Ofc not just any but good ones" VS 5 YT videos on the subject... U would see the difference yourself... Ofc u can only do this experiment if u implement everything) u/ExaltFibs24 mentioned I didn't mention about taking notes while you're reading and that's absolutely correct, you must note-take while you read and actually do something with it otherwise it's pretty much the same as watching Youtube. (Thanks for mentioning it!) When you get rid of all addictions... Life starts going YOUR way This - I know is hard. I've struggled with Porn, Gaming, Anime, Netflix and K-Drama etc etc so I know bro. It's hard but. But after you cross the stage of getting rid of all distractions.. Ho... Everything starts to shine... Suddenly the hard work becomes easier... Suddenly the book on your shelf looks enticing... (For serious enthusiasts... Atomic Habits Book is your best friend to help you break them.) Taking Action was honestly my biggest problem I'll be serious here. The reason you watch Youtube to improve yourself is because you're too lazy to exert the effort to read a book on it. (Ofc I know not everyone) How many Youtube Videos have you watched and how many have you implement? Once you answer that - you will understand what's going on here. Honestly if I'll be real - even though u din read books N just implemented from YT videos, your life will still improve massively. I've watched thousands of Self-Improvement YT videos myself - Implemented them once N then forgotten about it. I've also red hundreds of articles and never implemented any of them either. It shows it wasn't the knowledge that was the problem here - it was my inaction. I didn't have a system to organize that information (Those serious guys can look into Personal Knowledge Management Books to start with - I recommend How To Take Smart Notes or Building A Second Brain as a starter) N u need to also understand that Youtube is a money making machine... They profit from you staying on their platform and every Youtuber knows that - so that's exactly what they do - keep you stuck in the platform (Ofc I know that there a couple Youtubers who are genuinely wanting to help people like Thomas Frank is one guy I like - makes really good stuff) N I know this very well because I am a Youtuber myself - I know that when I make boring introductions... The analytics shows the evidence. But when I change my thumbnails, titles and add stories... Woah... What's going on here... Lone Wolf VS Tribeship Self-Improvement makes a HUGE difference. During my first 2 years of self-improvement. I was alone. I was a lone lone wolf. No one supported me and no one cared about me. I was improving myself quietly. Days where I felt like crap - no one was there for me to talk about with. Days where I succeeded - no one was there to celebrate with... What about friends in school...? Haha... Funny you ask. But year 3 of self-improvement - after coincidentally meeting an old enemy of mine in my old school. We noticed we both changed, we both red the same books and that's... That's when I seriously seriously started improving immensely... Having someone you can trust your back to... Feels... Very different. You have someone to suffer with, someone to celebrate with... Someone to... Just talk your heart out. It's really made me feel emotional about it because I still remember those very lonely days where I ate alone while everyone was sitting with their friends or girlfriends while I am just at the corner... Eating... And... Ignoring... Day by day... 300 Days later it was still the same. I tried sitting with "friends" once or twice... It feels like I was forcing myself to joke around and... It just wasn't me... Best test to know if his actually a "friend" or not is I call. The Friend Connection Test Don't talk for 3 seconds and see if it feels awkward (for yourself or for her/him) or not. If you're trying hard to think what to say next and you spout out something like: "The clouds are black huh..." yeah... Awkward... I am not a fan of these 3 tips to self-improvement videos on Youtube nor do I like them in article format like over here - because they were way too generic. So I highly recommend you find a post I did called "Ultimate List on where to start self-improvement" and actually start taking action and doing something with your life. Also, do you think creating my own subreddit is a good idea? I always dreamt of creating a community where we all can just obsessively privately improve ourselves while helping each other out... A tribe u could say. Everyone's got your back. You may have no real friends & family irl... But you got a whole tribe that's got your back - every. single. time. Also I know my english is pretty ass as u/Dahappychap said, I really am sorry if it's hard to read and I am hoping I am not sounding egotistical - it is not what I am trying to do, disagree and agree as you shall, I am totally happy about it. Edit 1: It seems there is a minority of people that disagree a bit with what I wrote, I do apologize if I said anything you don't like as I know everyone has a different view of the world. And it would be very egotistical to think MY way is the best way - I don't believe there is a best way, THESE are just my personal experience that worked best for me. Major Update: The promise of the tribe has been completed after contemplating for a long time. None of you guys have to be alone in this journey anymore, we are all in this together. I made sure everything is catered towards supporting everyone's journey of self-improvement. You shall see it for yourself. But I do want to apologize pre-hand that things are going to go wrong for 100% sure so bear with me brothers. submitted by /u/Actual-Schedule4848 to r/selfimprovement [link] [comments]
