[Acne] Struggled with a decade of acne and been clear for 5 years. Here is everything I’ve tried vs everything that’s worked + my current routine.
pic 1: taken AFTER my accutane course. my acne here is still much better in this then it used to be. Apologies for the low quality, I hated pictures because I was super insecure hence why I don’t have ones from before accutane either. pic 2: makeup only on my eyes and lips, nothing on my skin except sunscreen and moisturizer. My eyebrows are microbladed. FULL DISCLOSURE #1: I am not a dermatologist nor a licensed esthetician. I am a registered nurse with a basic understanding of microbiology and human anatomy who has spent way too many hours on skincare YouTube. What I’ve detailed below is what worked for me, and by no means what works for everyone else. FULL DISCLOSURE #2: I’ve had pico laser done once in office to help with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation as well as laser removal of my flat facial moles. FULL DISCLOSURE #3: I am not sponsored by, nor do I have any conflict of interest with any of these brands I list. Things I’ve tried that didn’t work (before y’all come for me please remember that I started this journey when I was like 10 😂) - benzoyl peroxide (I am allergic 😭) - spironolactone - clay masks - scrubs/ physical exfoliation (St. Ives 😱) - peel off masks - salicylic acid acne clearing pads - proactiv (the entire set) - pore strips - Mario badescu drying lotion - witch hazel - Clinique clarifying lotion - 10 step Korean skin care routine (I didn’t curate it, I just bought blindly based off of what had good reviews 🤦♀️) - snail mucin - essence and/ or toner - Chinese medicine (I don’t even know what I was taking tbh.) - not moisturizing “because I was too oily” - any type of DIY mask (lemon juice, egg, honey, olive oil, yogurt, rice water, u name it) - topical clindamycin Things that worked but don’t currently use: - Accutane (I did a 6 month course; acne came back eventually but SO much improvement in severity) - CeraVe SA cleanser - rx Sodium Sulfacetamide cleanser (cleansing with sulfur is one of the things I truly believe saved my skin. I still break out when I go without my sulfur for too long. I think it’s bullshit when people say your face wash doesn’t matter - sulfur absolutely matters for me) - oral doxycycline (worked only while I was actively using, but was worried about antimicrobial resistance) - ZitSticka Skin Discipline multivitamin capsules (genuinely helped my skin but was too expensive and was able to wean off of them over the course of trial and error x 1 year) Current Regimen AM: - cleanse CeraVe hydrating cream to foam cleanser - serum: glossier super pure (niacinamide and zinc - been repurchasing this for over 6 years now) - moisturizer: glossier after baume (my HG moisturizer: super thick and luxurious but doesn’t break me out) - sunscreen + vit c: melano CC sunscreen spf 50++++ PM - first cleanse: glossier milky jelly cleansing balm (doesn’t really matter what first step cleanser I use tbh. I’ve used banila co, the inkey list, CeraVe makeup balm, etc. as long as it removes makeup and sunscreen well I’m good) - second cleanse: Dermaharmony 5% Sulfur and 2% Salicylic Acid Liquid Castile Soap (I switched to this from using CeraVe SA + rx Sulfur cleanser because I was tired to carrying around 2 bottles as well as having to get an rx for my sulfur wash. I absolutely still need Salicylic acid AND sulfur in my regimen. - moisturizer: glossier after baume - agency skincare formula for hyperpigmentation: tretinoin 0.035% + tranexamic acid 5% + dexpanthenol 1% + niacinamide 4% - when I’m super dry, esp in the winter: Elizabeth Arden advanced ceramide capsule (I usually just use like 1/3 of a capsule and leave the rest in the clean spot for later. Glossier future dew works okay too, just doesn’t spread as nicely) + I skip my retinol for a night General rules (these are also critically important) 1. Don’t touch your face unless you’ve just washed your hands. 2. Dedicate a towel for your face and treat it like it’s sterile. Don’t use it for anything else but your face. Don’t hang it near the toilet (invisible fecal particles erupt from your toilet when u flush). 3. Change your face towel and your pillowcases at LEAST every 4ish days. I like to do every 2. I have a million old T-shirts that can be used as pillowcases. When a side gets “old”, flip it to the other side and you’re gucci. 4. Pat when you’re drying with a towel. Be gentle. Don’t rub your face ever. I also prefer to lather my face wash with a foaming net until I have a thick, dense cloud. You don’t want to be tugging or manually scrubbing at your skin. Let the micro bubbles do the work. 5. Please wash that damn makeup sponge/ brush with soap and water after every use 😩 and deep clean with boiling water if it’s safe to do so every couple of uses. I just throw my wet beauty blender in the microwave with some water in a bowl for 3 minutes every 6-7 uses (the manufacturer does not recommend this as it may cause the blender to deform or lose integrity. I’ve never had an issue. Move forward at your own discretion) Treat your makeup like it’s sterile too - only a clean brush/ clean finger is allowed to touch it. Sorry it’s so long! I hope this helps someone :) submitted by /u/plaesma to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

my eunyul snail mucin sheet mask review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
let me preface by saying i suffer from extreme dryness and redness, particularly on my t-zone and cheeks. THIS IS THE BEST SHEET MASK I'VE EVER USED HANDS DOWN!!!! i've been using one every night since sunday and when i tell you my face has never felt so hydrated!!! i'm constantly having to stop myself from touching my face throughout the day because it's just so soft. in less than a week i have stopped flaking + i've noticed a significant reduction in redness. i've never seen results this fast with any skincare product before. for as long as my DTs have these in stock they will be a daily step in my skincare routine, especially since i'm having a hard time finding the GBC snail mucin products anywhere. i fully recommend to my fellow dry skin havers but for my oily and acne-prone folks, i could see these potentially causing a breakout, as many hydrating sheet masks can do. nonetheless, everyone's skin reacts differently and they may still work just as well for you! may the DT gods bless you all and plant a plentiful of these wonderful masks at your local stores 🙏 submitted by /u/plane0fexistence to r/dollartreebeauty [link] [comments]

Research on Whether You Should Use Snail Mucin
Hey r/asianbeauty - For my day job, I worked in analytics at a healthcare company - so basically, I pieced together a bunch of information to help people make decisions on what to do. I recently quit my job to travel through Asia :) and have basically started doing the same thing, but for Asian skincare! While I was doing this for myself, I realized that it was hard to find a quick 360 summary on ingredients. So thought I'd share what I've created with you all. Featuring the beloved snail mucin first! Let me know if you find this helpful! Feel free to share what your experiences have been, if you agree or disagree with my TLDRs, or if you have feedback. Thinking about maybe doing a series on ingredients or hot products. --- *SNAIL MUCIN\* What does this ingredient claim to do? (Primary benefit) Hydrates, repairs, and firms: Deeply moisturizes skin, promotes natural repair, boost collagen, and improves skin elasticity Brightens & calms: Helps fade dark spots & acne scars, while soothing inflammation How likely is it that it will work? Clinical Evidence Score: How clinically proven and widely established is the ingredient? Is there broad consensus amongst the scientific community about its effectiveness? Emerging Data (4 out of 10): There's not a ton of clinical studies about snail mucin, and the ones that do exist, have limited people in the study (n=~20-30) or are on animals. Research is promising, but snail mucin doesn't have a super strong clinical evidence yet. Highly recommended (8 out of 10): Anecdotally a lot of people love snail mucin & say that it works. They love it for hydration & healing. What's the risk that this will irritate my skin? Irritation Risk Score: What’s the risk of irritation with this ingredient? Sensitive Friendly (3 out of 10): Overall, should be fine for most people. Reactions can happen if your skin barrier is extremely compromised, if you have a sensitivity to things like dust-mites, mollusks, or shellfish, or if you use shitty quality mucin products. Who should consider using it and passing on it? Most loved by: Dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin-types. Or when you are looking for a product to soothe skin irritation. May not be loved by: Oily or combination skin, since it can feel heavy What are some of the most highly purchased & reviewed products? CosRx advanced snail 96 mucin power essence or advanced snail 92 all-in-one cream Mizon snail repair intensive ampoule or intensive cream Benton snail bee high content essence So what? If you are looking for hydration, plumping, and/or soothing, snail mucin is a low-risk and highly loved ingredient that you can try. If you'd like to incorporate it, here's some tips: Remember to patch test first Go with trusted, highly-reviewed products (quality of product matters) Apply after cleanser & toning, before heavier moisturizer -- *Optional Read* For anyone who is a nerd like me - I also created a quick definition guide for how I thought about the different scores (along with the sources I used). Tried To Use Cheap Snail Mucin. Dont Be Cheap!
After months of cetaphil and spironolactone I finally got rid of my adult acne. I really wanted to move onto Asian beauty products, but I wanted to try snail mucin a few months ago after seeing such promising reviews. I saw that COSRX was a little too pricey for me at the time so I splurged for the SOKGO snail mucin instead since it was 2 for $10 and I thought they were similar. I finally used the Mucin yesterday. The serum was watery and My face instantly felt sticky and dry within an hour of use. I ended up buying COSRX snail mucin moisturizer a few days ago since there was a sale. So I put it on my face and my skin felt amazing. The next morning I washed it off my face and thought “let’s give this SOKGO one last shot since you have so much of it. I put it on and went about my day. By the time I went home my face was super dry and peeling. I slathered some vitamin e oil on my face for now but I’m really upset that I got played by Amazon. To add insult to injury I missed the refund window so now I don’t know what to do with this knockoff snail mucin. So moral of the story, don’t cheap out on beauty products people! submitted by /u/Money-Snow-2749 to r/Blackskincare [link] [comments]

Please consider synthetic Snail Mucin
Harvesting Snail Mucin is a cruel process but there are products that are very similar without having to torture snails! For example InnBeauty Project’s “Elastic Skin” is the closest example of COSRX’s version. The reviews on Elastic Skin have been good so far. I just bought it for the first time today and am excited to try it out. submitted by /u/Stephanie-Braganza to r/30PlusSkinCare [link] [comments]

Rating every Moisturizer (tried 24+) [Review]
Hi everyone! After my previous post reviewing 30+ face cleansers (thank you for the love btw), some redditors asked me to make one for other products. So I’ve compiled a list of all the moisturizers I’ve tried in the past few years and these are my thoughts on them. About me I'm 26 F, I have combination/sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts. The most important for me in a moisturizer is that it keeps my skin moisturized (duh!) but with no heavy, greasy or oily finish, all at a reasonable price. Bonus - Sits well under makeup (so that I don’t have to buy 2 different moisturizers). - Enjoyable texture. - Nice light scent (if any). - Cute & eco-responsible packaging. submitted by /u/emi518 to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

[Research] Derm's review of the evidence for snail mucin
Hi everyone! I'm a NYC-area dermatologist and have been doing a deep dive on the evidence for snail mucin and wanted to share what I found in case it is of interest for you! As a disclaimer, this is strictly for educational purposes and should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. What is snail mucin? The main type of snail mucin is essentially the goop that is secreted by snails. There's two forms used in skincare products, secretion of cryptomphalus aspersa (SCA) and cryptomphalus aspersa egg extract (CAF). Both come from the common brown garden snail (cryptomphalus aspersa). SCA is made by stimulating snails and separating/filtering their secretions (snail slime). CAF is made by breaking apart the snail eggs and separating out the egg contents itself. SCA is the more established ingredient so I'll be focusing on that. SCA was actually first used to treat radiation dermatitis. Scientists found that snails secreted large amounts of mucin in response to harmful radiation and showed that it could be used to treat radiation dermatitis in patients receiving radiotherapy to treat their cancers. What does the lab data show? There's a number of studies that use SCA in a lab setting to investigate what it does to different human cell lines. These have found a few effects: SCA stimulates fibroblast function as well as proliferation and migration: fibroblasts are the cells that make the collagen in your skin, this suggests a potential anti-aging benefit SCA has antioxidant effects: free radical damage from UV and pollution leads to skin aging, DNA damage, and collagen degradation, antioxidants work to prevent this by removing free radicals from your skin SCA decreases matrix metalloproteinase expression in fibroblasts: increased matrix metalloproteinase expression is found in aged fibroblasts, these are enzymes that break down proteins in our skin like collagen, this suggests a potential anti-aging benefit SCA increases expression of cell-cell adhesion molecules: increased cell-cell adhesion in the skin prevents water loss to the environment, this suggests a potential hydrating benefit Is there any clinical data? For all of the hype around this ingredient, there is not a huge amount of data showing what SCA does to human skin. The best study was one placebo-controlled split-face study. This is the best way to test cosmetic products because half of the face gets a placebo and the other gets the product so that patients serve as their own control. They looked at 25 patients and found that SCA led to improved texture, hydration, and fine lines. The rest of the studies are harder to interpret because they combine SCA with other actives so we can't isolate the effect of the SCA itself. By and large the primary effect of SCA appears to be improvement in skin hydration. Finally, because of the suggested regenerative benefits of SCA, its been used as a post-procedural treatment after both ablative and non-ablative laser treatments. SCA after laser treatment was found to lead to faster recovery and some improvement in the cosmetic effect of the treatment. Conclusion So what do we take away from this? Should you be using snail mucin in your routine? The reality is that "snail mucin" is a mixture of many different compounds including hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, various peptides, and others. It really depends on what you want to use it for. My opinion is that it fits in as a kind of "hyaluronic acid+" into your routine. By far the most apparent effect in all of the clinical studies of snail mucin was skin hydration and a large amount of the dry weight of snail mucin is hyaluronic acid and other glycosaminoglycans. It certainly has other components that lead to other effects but whether this will add anything for you depends on what else you're using. If you already have a vitamin C antioxidant serum and are using a retinoid for collagen-boosting (ingredients with stronger evidence for these effects), you may not get as much added benefit from it. TLDR You can treat snail mucin as a hyaluronic acid replacement if you want to add it to your routine. How much effect you get depends on what else you're already using. submitted by /u/mdskindoc to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

Review: Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
Cosrx Snail Mucin Review (Long Term Usage; 2+ years) About me: 25 F; I have combination skin with an oily T zone in summers and dry cheeks and nose in winters Skin concerns: Cystic acne; scars, hyperpigmentation and crying from the cystic acne My routine(for winter) AM; Cerave cream to foam hydrating cleanser> Hada Labo premium lotion> melano cc essence> sunscreen (Thank you farmer, BOJ or supergoop play) PM; Klairs cleansing oil or The body shop cleansing balm> Cerave Acne foaming facewash> Cosrx Snail Mucin> Laniege Cica sleeping mask/Cosrx AIO Snail cream/Bioderma Atoderm Baume Spot treatments and things I use occasionally: Aziderm 10% gel, BP 2.5% gel, Cos de baha Tranexamic acid, Cosrx BHA Purchased from: Maccaron Product link: https://maccaron.in/en/products/cosrx_advanced-snail-96-mucin-power-essence-100ml/942/ tl;dr I WILL TAKE A BOTTLE OF SNAIL MUCIN WITH ME WHEN I GO TO HELL Texture: It's transparent in colour and has no fragrance. The texture is slightly thick and gooey(but not gross) Application: I use 3-4 pumps for my whole face. I apply it on wet dripping face right after cleanser in the evening. On some days I layer it twice. My skin drinks it up as soon as I apply it. It spreads easily on wet skin. On dry skin it doesn't fully absorb and sits on the skin. I love it. I bought 9 bottles so far. And gifted three to my friends. You can see 4 in the photo. I gave away the old ones for recycling. I use it every day in my PM routine during winters. It helps keep my skin hydrated in dry weather. If i go a week without using it, I can feel the difference. Skin feels tight and not as glowy when i wake up. I always take it for travelling. It's helpful during flights and while staying in hotel rooms where my skin feels most dehydrated. 10/10 Will repurchase , Holy Grail! Sorry for any mistakes. This is my first review. English is hard. Please be nice. If you have any questions regarding the product, do ask. Ingredient list: Snail Secretion Filtrate, Betaine, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Ethyl Hexanediol, Carbomer, Panthenol, Arginine https://preview.redd.it/kji0qunq126c1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ce0d4f723574305d1432788265475e90018dca3 submitted by /u/lavender4luck to r/IndianSkincareAddicts [link] [comments]

Ingredient Discussion: Snail Mucin
Hello! As we all know skincare marketing and new trends and products very often include a star or several star ingredients that gain hype about what they do, what they potentially can do, and why YOU should buy a product with that ingredient in it! There's a lot of marketing gimmicks to navigate when it comes to product information, so I thought it would be fun to do a little spotlight on certain ingredients that are big in AB! As we all know snail mucin is still pretty hyped, and i see it just as much if not more in many skincare routines and videos for years now! Of course there is the viral Snail Mucin 96 from Cosrx, but even they have expanded their line, and so many other brands have their own lines, or products that combine snail mucin with something of their own. There even seems to be a vegan alternative (I believe it's made with soybean? or something of that nature that has a similar texture but is vegan, apologies for getting the ingredient wrong!). So i wanted to make a post to have a discussion on the ingredient and it's products. This can include but is not limited to: general feelings on the ingredient, what it does vs what it doesn't, studies on the ingredient you'd like to share, review(s) on the different products containing the ingredient that you've tried, alternatives/"dupes"/vegan/cruelty free product versions, and any discussion, review, or information you'd like to put out there! It's easy to get overwhelmed and told "yes this is amazing use this" and have no idea what it's supposed to do or what the best option is, so i think this will be helpful to share to both new and seasoned AB'ers. There's so much out there, you may love (or hate) an ingredient and find a new product that you love even more or changed your mind on your disdain for it! PS. this isn't official technically, but i'm down to continue each week or so doing this and having the threads kept infinitely! fun little anecdotal ingredient dictionary of sorts :) have fun! submitted by /u/teenyrabbitt to r/AsianBeauty [link] [comments]

Fake Cosrx advanced snail mucin 96 alert
I ordered a cosrx advanced snail mucin 96 from Flipkart as it was at a discount for 600 bucks. What I got was a counterfeit - the packaging was glass instead of plastic, the consistency was oily instead of snail mucin, and it had a faint smell resembling chameli oil. Flipkart has refused a refund and won't let me review the product. This is for the benefit of the masses. Don't buy this. Photos attached. The left is the original, the right is what I received. Even the shade of yellow is off. submitted by /u/iceprincess17 to r/IndianSkincareAddicts [link] [comments]
