Was picking up some groceries at my local Kroger this evening (I live on the east coast in the US) and saw that they’ve randomly added a Korean skincare section. Ok cool! Unexpected but I obviously love that Kbeauty is becoming more easily accessible at places like Ulta and Target etc - my main question is how the hell are they selling the Korean formula of the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen? The filters in the OG formula are, to my knowledge, not FDA approved, which is why we get stuck with the god awful US reformulations sold at Sephora and the like, but I triple checked the packaging and ingredients, this is not the US formulation, no “broad spectrum” to be found and the INCI list is identical to the OG Korean formula. I've been on tret for a while, and my skin started getting dry and dehydrated after I increased the frequency. I've been using the cosrx snail mucin for quite some time, probably finished 4 or 5 bottles but honestly, I didn’t see much improvement. I just kept using it without any real reason.Recently, I read about using glycerin on the skin and decided to give it a try and my skin loved it! Bought the atomiser from Blinkit and got glycerin and distilled water from a local pharmacy. Glycerin needs to be diluted, otherwise it can make your skin feel even drier. I diluted it in about 1:8 ratio (glycerin : distilled water) The glycerin bottle cost me around 50, and the distilled water packets were rs.3 each. I spray it on my face when it’s slightly damp after cleansing, then follow up with a moisturizer. I ordered a new bottle of snail mucin from Amazon a few months ago when mine was running low. I noticed a few differences that didn’t quite match what I’m used to. I took some side by side photos of both the original and the new bottle. Harvesting Snail Mucin is a cruel process but there are products that are very similar without having to torture snails! For example InnBeauty Project’s “Elastic Skin” is the closest example of COSRX’s version. The reviews on Elastic Skin have been good so far. The product on the left is what Amazon sent me and the product on the right is what I ordered. This appears to be a very deliberate knock off product AND listing. This is very predatory for anyone who is looking to but CORSX Snail Mucin for a good value. I returned the first one to Amazon and told them it was counterfeit. I got a refund and ordered another one from Amazon itself instead of the third party listing. Well, I got ANOTHER counterfeit product and I just figured out that the listing itself mimics CORSX’s bottle and design, but is careful to not use the CORSX brand name. Yet their bottle is not as pictured, so it’s a sloppy counterfeit. Lots of people on this forum mention that they use products that contain snail slime and the process in which this is "harvested" is so cruel. I didn't realise how horrible it is until I googled it a second ago. Hello everyone! I've heard a lot about this Korean skin care product. Is it really that good? I suffer from extremely sensitive facial skin - like, everything that's not water or pure aloe vera gel will cause irritations within a couple of hours. Sadly, the aloe gel alone doesn't help, especially in fall or winter. I still need to find a moisturizer or toner or nourishing creme that won't cause my face to break out. Could this be an option for me? I'm just tired of spending money on things I won't be able to use. TLDR: If you are allergic to snail mucin, you likely won't know right away. More importantly, if you're allergic to dust mites, there's a high chance you will also be allergic to snail mucin. I say this as someone who believes the hype behind snail mucin is well-deserved. The essence I bought from COSRX did exactly what it was advertised to do for my skin - smoothed it, toned it, hydrated it, reduced pore size - and I didn't immediately have any noticeable reaction. The only thing that felt slightly off was that every once in a while during the day, when I used the mucin, my skin would start to sting and burn like it was damaged, even though I only use natural, gentle ingredients. I chalked that up to sun exposure and layered on the sunscreen. About a week later, I obtained some snail mucin masks. The first mask was fine. It gloriously hydrated my skin and made me feel like a skincare model. I had absolutely no reaction to it, beyond the fact that the next day, my cheeks were tingling. The second mask was not fine. When I took it off (it was dark), I ran my finger over my face and immediately went "uh-oh." My skin was burning hot and, when I turned on the mirror, bright cherry red. It quickly started itching and swelling. It's been almost 24 hours and I still have a blazing sunburn blush. I'm severely allergic to dust mites (with prescription medication) but I didn't know about the cross-allergen link between snail mucin and dust mites. (Who'd have thought?) So for anyone considering snail mucin, here's what I want you to know. First off, it works. If you can use it, you should. It's generously hydrating and it can take you from roughness to dewy paradise in a matter of weeks. Second, it's replaceable. If you're allergic to it, or even think you might be allergic and are hesitating, don't risk it. COSRX in particular has great substitutes that don't include snail mucin ingredients (I'm currently testing their hyaluronic acid essence as a substitute as part of my attempt at getting glass skin). Third, even if you don't react at first, pay careful attention to any abnormal symptoms with skincare products. Not all allergies present right away. Finally, patch test. Please don't be like me and slather new ingredients recklessly all over your face. Much love to all you skincare gurus!
