Oversized Hoodies Style Guide: Master Men’s Oversized Outfits
Oversized hoodies have become a core essential in modern men’s fashion. Once limited to gym wear and casual lounging, they are now a powerful style statement in men’s oversized outfits. From streetwear lovers to minimal fashion enthusiasts, oversized hoodies deliver unmatched comfort, versatility, and bold urban appeal. This oversized hoodies style guide will help you understand how to wear, style, and elevate oversized hoodies for a confident and trendy look. Why Oversized Hoodies Are Trending in Men’s Fashion The rise of oversized hoodies is driven by the demand for comfort-focused fashion. Men today prefer clothing that feels relaxed yet stylish. Oversized hoodies offer: Freedom of movement Warmth without heaviness Strong streetwear presence Easy layering options These features make oversized hoodies a key element in men’s oversized outfits, especially during winter, travel, and casual outings. Choosing the Right Oversized Hoodie Fit Not all oversized hoodies look good if the fit is wrong. The perfect oversized hoodie should: Sit loosely on the shoulders Have dropped shoulder seams Offer extra length without looking sloppy Maintain structure around the neck and cuffs A well-designed oversized hoodie enhances your silhouette while keeping the relaxed aesthetic intact. Best Bottomwear to Pair with Oversized Hoodies To balance volume, pairing the right bottomwear is crucial. The best options include: Baggy cargo pants Relaxed-fit joggers Straight-leg jeans Oversized track pants These combinations maintain harmony in men’s oversized outfits and create a clean streetwear flow. Layering Techniques with Oversized Hoodies Layering adds depth to oversized hoodie outfits. Popular layering styles include: Oversized hoodies under bomber jackets Hoodies with oversized coats Hoodies paired with denim jackets Keep colors neutral or monochrome to avoid overpowering the outfit. Clean layering keeps the oversized look premium and wearable. Oversized Hoodies for All Body Types One of the biggest advantages of oversized hoodies is their universal appeal. They suit: Slim men by adding volume Athletic men by offering comfort Heavy men by boosting confidence The relaxed structure of oversized hoodies creates a flattering shape for every body type, making them a must-have in men’s oversized outfits. Footwear and Accessories for Oversized Hoodie Looks The right accessories complete the outfit. Ideal choices include: Chunky sneakers High-top shoes Beanies or caps Minimal chains Cross-body sling bags These elements enhance the street-style vibe while keeping the outfit balanced. Why Oversized Hoodies Are a Long-Term Fashion Trend Oversized hoodies are not just seasonal fashion pieces. Their ability to adapt across streetwear, gym wear, travel outfits, and casual fashion makes them a long-term trend. As comfort and relaxed silhouettes continue to dominate men’s fashion, oversized hoodies will remain a cornerstone of men’s oversized outfits. Final Thoughts Oversized hoodies are the perfect combination of comfort, warmth, and modern street style. With the right fit, pairing, and layering, they can elevate your everyday look effortlessly. Whether you prefer clean aesthetics or bold streetwear, oversized hoodies are essential for anyone building a wardrobe around men’s oversized outfits. submitted by /u/Cute_Investigator795 to r/mensfashion [link] [comments]

Need recommendation
Hello guys, please help me choose a men's bag for everyday carry. I am 5'6 (168cm), fairly short (for a man). I'd like to choose a designer bag. • No showy brand signs like monograms • Mainly used as crossbody bag, better also come with a handle to be carried by hand • That can fit both casua formal outfit and streetwear • Fairly soft bags not prone to be irreversibly distorted • Not that heavy by itself (as an example fendi peekaboo is a bit too heavy for me) • Just to put in everyday paraphernalia, don't need to fit large items like laptops • Not that formal or business feel, but would be considered ok for office work environment. I have tried some in boutiques, and I have some photos, if you know better options please recommend to me, I'll be greatly thankful. submitted by /u/Deauerl to r/handbags [link] [comments]

Two different men sexually assulted my gf in the same night in Tresor
Im writing this as a reddit and google review post to spread to as wide a group as possible. My gf and I headed out last night in Berlin hoping to get into kitkat. Once at the front of the queue we were told we wouldnt be allowed in because my shoes were not entirely black and/or boots. My gf had a perfect outfit on and mine with approval too sparing the shoes. We then opted for Tresor because it was close by and it was reaching 4am at this point. Got in very easily. They pretty much let everyone in and this v much showed once we were inside. Id heard of tresor being so touristy before but did not expect to see the amount of jeans, flannel shirts and just straight streetwear as i did. It was also about 80% men. We did a few pills each to get some energy after all our long queing and then decided we had our hot kinky outfits on underneath anyway, and this club should still be a safe space, so decided to take off all the layers. We went down to the main tresor room and danced for a few hours with a few stops inbetween, but there was definitely something eary and creepy about the crowd. By that point 6am i dont think there were any single women and maybe only 6 in couples. We were dancing in basically underwear at the front of the room just having a fun time, and my hands were wrapped tight right around my gf as a man next to us literally reached over and plainly grabbed her arse in front of me. I confronted the man and he just played innocent and i was high and i didnt want to start a fight and get us thrown out so we just moved away and tried to forget about it. Then about 30 mins later the exact same thing happened. We'd moved back in the room into some more space and were arms wrapped around one another enjoying ourselves when a different random guy just runs by and grabs her arse again and runs off into the darkness. I felt fucking sick. We then left and thought about telling the staff to get them kicked out but the wardrobe seemed kinda arsey at that point and there wasnt really anyone else in authority clearly about. How tf can this happen twice in one night! Its vile vile vile and has hurt us both a lot and spoiled Berlin for us. For anyone else visiting, do not feel safe from incredibly creepy old men in this venue who will do anything just to objectify a woman. And to tresor, fucking sort the sat night door policy out or make it more obvious where we can report things like this!! We never be attending there again and if you want a good night out, with people who genuinely love hard and techno music, do not go here 🤮 EDIT: I am happy the amount of traction this has gotten and that it can hopefully be a warning for anyone else attending this venue - a tourist ground for men to prey on young girls as a priority rather than enjoy the music. I believe this would have happened still even if she was still wearing her skirt, so be careful however you dress. Being in just underwear certainly made us more attractive but this does not give anyone anymore right to grope us. I have deep regret we didnt report these people when we were there. The 2nd ran off so quick i didnt even see what he looked like, but the 1st i caught the face of. Adding to not being able to clearly spot any awareness team, my gf was worried that her comments would be dismissed by some staff as something that they couldnt or wouldnt do anything about. Maybe saying it was our fault because of the way we were dressed or because they were already all looking fed up at the wardrobe and sweet stall; causing her damaged control if nothing happened after reporting it. Also, some of you on here have been disgusting with your comments and are obviously all people who do not see this as a problem and are likely contributors to it. submitted by /u/InquisitivePsycho_8D to r/berlinsocialclub [link] [comments]

Where to find mens fashion inspo / influencers that aren't basic or streetwear?
OK I follow a bunch of fashion channels on youtube, but they are mostly women. The mens channels I've found are either very basic (tshirt, jeans, jacket, suit, etc) or streetwear (nothing against it, but personally not my cup of tea). I especially hate it when they talk about how to dress so you look taller, more muscular, more masculine, more flattering, etc. That's not why I'm into fashion. I'm more into the self expression / having fun side. What I'm looking for is something other than these two extremes. Something creative and fun, lots of colors and patterns, using thrifted clothes in fun ways, outfit ideas that aren't traditional or streetwear, incorporating women's clothes for a more androgynous look, etc. Just to give you an idea of some of the women influencers that I really like: Kathleen Illustrated, Leena Norms, beepworld, maiazine, Leandra Medine. submitted by /u/EmotionalSnail_ to r/mensfashion [link] [comments]

AITA for forcing my tomboy daughter to wear formal clothing?
Hi all. My family is Indian-American, but I like to think I am pretty progressive. I (40F) have a son (16M) and a daughter (15F). My daughter has started to become a tomboy over the last 2 years, despises feminine clothing and style. While it has definitely been an adjustment in my perception, I have always tried to be as supportive as possible, and have let her pick her own clothings, only eliminating anything that was graphic or inappropriate. However, my niece was getting married in a traditional, big Indian wedding. While generally all the girls would be wearing formal lehangas (Indian traditional dresses), I dropped it after asking my daughter if she wanted to wear that and she said no (only mentioned it once because she really looks up to my niece and I did not want her to feel left out). When I asked her what she wanted to wear, she said that should wear a t-shirt and slacks. But, I insisted that she wear a formal clothing of her choice, whether it was a suit, a dress or traditional indian clothing. This was black tie event. I was making my son wear a formal suit. Everyone was going to be dressed to the nines. I was going to get my son a new suit tailored for the event, and I insisted that she come with and pick a fabric and suit style as well. It could be to her desire (as long as it was appropriate); like a very typical men's suit or feminine twist like what Zendaya wears. She got angry and said I was constricting her expression. I think she will have to wear formal clothing in other points in her life, whether for work or other formal events. She can express herself however she wants but dressing appropriately for the occasion is a necessary skill. The wedding has been postponed for now, but I still want her to wear a formal outfit and she is still mad at me about this. AITA? EDIT: Wow, I did not expect this to blow up like this haha! Thank you for the comments and messages! While some of you have labeled me as the asshole, I think a lot of you are saying that I am not which is good to hear. But, I want to stress that I don't think my daughter is really the asshole (a little right now) but she is the sweetest little girl in the world (I might be biased haha). She is usually very respectful, gets excellent grades and works really hard. I am very proud of her. Some of you have mentioned there is an underlying problem that I am not seeing. I do not think my daughter is trans, but I think I have made it clear that its okay if she or anyone else is. She also generally seems pretty happy with her body; she is actually really fashionable and doesn't really wear baggy clothing or anything, but is more into "streetwear." She is the one who showed me who Zendaya is! Are there additional signs I should be looking for or things I should be doing? I think she is at the stage in life where she knows everything, and I, her mom, knows nothing. She wants to rebel for something, but isn't really the type to rebel with something really bad (thank god), so she decided this is a justified area to rebel. She is also at home, and I haven't really allowed her to go out because of the current circumstances; so think she feels cooped up and now everything about me is annoying her. That being said, a lot of you said to tell her she can't go to the wedding if she doesn't wear formal clothing, and I may be the asshole here, but SHE IS GOING. That is a thing I have decided to take a hard stance on. (1) because my daughter really, really wants to go! She loves her cousin and my family, and she is a really social person who would love weddings. Telling her not to go would hurt her I think and would be counterproductive in the longterm. (2) This is the first wedding in our family and the first time my kids will see a traditional Indian wedding. They have never seen one before, so I think its important that they learn and feel connected to our culture. (3) If she decides not to go as an act of rebellion, I know my daughter, and I know she will feel really, really sad afterwards. Parenting is hard, and I was always a girly-girl and so were all the people around me, so this uncharted territory for me. Thank you to all of you for your kind words and encouragement. submitted by /u/amiwrong6321 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

I'm tired of hiding this. I'm a guy that really likes women purses. Can you help me find a way to style them?
Before anything, I know that r/malefashionadvice exists. The problem is that people wouldn't really help in achieving what I want that well, so here I am. If I'm not allowed to post here, let me know. I always loved women purses like this and this. This year I've been trying to move away from the "black/white/brown shirt with jeans" and actually wear what I like. I began with streetwear, it gave me a big self-esteem boost because I felt comfortable for the first time with what I was wearing (even though I was probably being judged by teachers/older people). After that, I decided to take a step further and use the colors that I like with more feminine "cuts": pink/pastel (examples: this and this). I recently started introducing bags from the men's section to my outfits, however, they always felt too big, bland or made me look like a 16 yo. This is when I thought: why not just say "fuck it" and where the shit that I REALLY want? The problem that I have is that I'd have to change the way that I dress to make them look coherent with everything. 95% of my wardrobe is regular masculine streetwear stuff and sneakers. which I have no problem with, but don't go well with purses. To give an idea of what I'm looking for, my biggest inspos are k-pop artists(examples: this but with a different shoe, this, this, this -- I really like jumpers, I know -- this), but I feel like I'd have to add a twist to make bags actually work. I'd have to learn how to implement accessories (I've NEVER used watches/rings/anything related) and some makeup. Makeup will be a big challenge. I've never tried it and, since I'm western, I don't think it will look as good in me as in easter people. Again, my goal is to look stylish, not feminine (if that ends up happening I don't really care, but I really want to use makeup in a "badass" way somehow). I want to pass the vibe of "this guy is hella stylish" rather than "this guy hella flamboyant". There are some rappers that are using purses, but they don't really look good imo. Any ideas? I'm open to anything really. I plan to use very simple designs at first with not much gold/colors (example) just to practice. TLDR: I'm a guy that really likes purses but can't imagine of a way of using them without looking too feminine instead of stylish. EDIT: Holy sh*t, this blew up! Thank you so much for the support (and the silver!), I'm gonna read everything now

[GUIDE] "Help, I'm New Where Do I start?" FashionReps Newbie Guide + Frequently used Terms!
Intro Did you just recently decide you want to look better by dressing better? Maybe you checked out /r/malefashionadvice and it wasn't for you so you discovered /r/streetwear. Maybe you like hip hop and follow your favorite rappers in IG and you want to look like them. Maybe you're in high school and you're sick of getting stunted on by rich kids. Whatever the reason, you found yourself on /r/streetwear looking at inspo albums and WDYWT posts and getting really psyched about cool outfits. Then you found some pictures you REALLY fell in love with. You looked up the prices of the items in the outfit and immediately lost hope of ever looking like that. Then something led you to /r/FashionReps. You're pretty new to streetwear. Your daily outfit is jeans and a graphic tee with some tennis shoes. Maybe cargos and a zip-up hoodie. Whatever. Point is, you're here to completely overhaul your wardrobe and not spend very much money. If I just described you, this is the guide for you. If none of that hits home, you probably won't get much out of this guide. There will be zero useful information here for people who have been on this sub for a long time. FashionReps Terms You may be looking at the front page of /r/FashionReps and see the terms "QC" and "GP" and wonder what the hell are these letters for? Well, how about we explain them. QC: Quality Control (QC for short) is talking about pictures that are posted from an agent of an item that was ordered. Users will post these if they're unsure about the quality and would rather have someone else take a look at them if they're good enough. LC: Legit Check (LC for short) Much like the name states, this is a tag used for posts requiring a legit check. Legit checks are a great way of finding out if a item you're purchasing is authentic or not. GP: Guinea Pig (GP for short) Guinea Pigging is much like being a test subject. In this instance you will be the first person to order a sellers new item. This means you'll be the first to get pictures of their product and often times you'll post them to be checked for quality by the community. FIND: Much like the name states. Posts with this flair are often linked to new products that haven't been posted before. W2C: Where To Cop (W2C for short) W2C refers to the search for a desired item. Often times will be linked with retail images for an example. 1:1 One to One (1:1 for short) 1:1 refers to a perfect replica. However, not many exist and often times you won't be able to get these as they're sold out. GL Green Light (GL for short) GL Refers to a user who has given their approval of a QC post. RL Red Light (RL for short) RL Refers to a user who has given their disapproval of a QC post. B&S Bait & Switch (BS or B&S for short) B&S Refers to a seller who has advertised their product and sent goods that are different from advertised. What web sites exist to buy reps from? For our purposes, we're going to pretend that a few of the big web sites don't exist. There are lots of sites out there that buy stuff from the web site I'm going to show you how to buy from and then sell for double the price. But you're not a sucker. You're going to buy from a weird ass Chinese web site and get shit for the low. There's Aliexpress which I do not recommend for several reasons. It's very tempting to buy stuff from Aliexpress but you will get burned. First, the site is Western-facing which means the pressure is on the site's operators to crack down on illegal activity. Aliexpress is widely used around the globe. When there's good fakes on Aliexpress and the link gets shared, the link gets taken away. The administrators of the site need to cover their asses and take down things that get reported. So the stuff that stays up usually isn't very good. There's DHGate which has a lot of good options for if you only want to buy one thing, especially "non-hype" shoes like Stan Smiths, Old Skools, Nike running shoes, etc. There's TaoBao. This is the site we'll be talking about. Here's the catch though, it's going to be a little tricky. If you don't want to put in a little work to save a lot of money, then give up on reps right now and save up for legit pieces. Then there is Weidian. This site is very similar to TaoBao in the sense that they have replica goods and it is a bit tricky to get started. However, you can find many budget batches here. I clicked on that TaoBao link and it's all in Chinese. How am I ever going to figure this out? Chill, we got this. For now, we're not going to worry about navigating TaoBao much. That'll come later after you've done a couple orders. Use Google Chrome while rep shopping and utilize the full-page automatic translation by clicking on the translate button in the URL bar. My goal right now, however, is not to overwhelm you more because you're probably already overwhelmed so don't worry if the site looks really confusing even after translating it. We're going to use an agent. An agent is a third party with a warehouse that orders things from TaoBao for you then repackages all the items you buy from different sellers into one package and sends it on to you. I'm going to recommend Superbuy. They make it pretty easy for new people to buy stuff from TaoBao. Go to the Superbuy home page and paste this link into the box. You'll see that the page has been automatically translated for you via Google Translate and it looks a little less scary. Feeling calmer yet? Superbuy is going to make it almost as easy as shopping on Amazon. You can sign up for Superbuy by clicking here upon signing up you'll automatically receive $27 worth of coupons to aid you towards shipping out your first haul! Here's a video with a 1:1 cutie explaining Superbuy if it's confusing for you. Note: I chose Superbuy because they have the best interface and reasonable fees, as far as I can tell. Alright, I've made an account with the agent. What do I buy? Okay, so the catch here is that I'm going to give you the outline of a basic streetwear capsule wardrobe for you to build upon. A capsule wardrobe is a wardrobe made up of few pieces that are simple and can be combined in many ways to create many outfits. I'll try to include a few simple hype pieces because, let's be real, you want to get some hype shit. We all do. Bottoms: Fear of God zipper pants & Represent distressed skinny jeans in blue and/or H&M skinny low jeans (as cheap as most rep jeans) Tops: Layering tees in pretty much every color, Basic hoodies in black, beige (apricot), and gray, or Yeezy-style hoodies if you want to spend a little more for a different cut, Thin bomber in black and/or olive green (very thin, this is a windbreaker not a winter coat). The other tops I'll recommend are Faded Glory flannels from Wal-Mart and Hane's Beefy tees. These items are as cheap in the US as they are from TaoBao for the most part. If you're not in the US I'm sure there is a local equivalent. If you need a winter coat, I don't recommend finding a rep. Quality seriously matters if you live in the frozen north and you don't want to take any chances. Hats: Hat store. I own quite a few hats from this store and most of them are pretty good quality. Some have even survived an accidental cycle in the washer! Shoes: Replica Shoes are one of the hottest categories of replicas right now. However, there are some dos and donts for replica shoes. Here is a list of sellers that currently offer a very wide variety of shoes and are trusted within the replica community. If you're looking for some basic shoes I definitely recommend going for Boostmaster Lins Budget Ultraboosts. Lins Ultraboosts are a great shoe that costs on average $20~$30 and offers the very comfort of retails as well with a very close to retail look! Boostmaster Lin (BMLin) Cocosneakers (Coco) FlightKickz (LN5) JoyStudio (Joy) Kickwho.vip (H12/KW) Staysucc.net (Vicky) Tonysneakers.ru (Real Tony) Willsneakers.ru (Will) Easy To Use Websites: Now you may be wondering if there is a ability to purchase goods from Taobao without a big hassle. Luckily in the recent year we had some new provisions made by sellers and they created sites that are easier to browse than Taobao. Now you aren't able to get everything off of these websites but they offer a good starting level for those who are looking to not dive into Taobao just yet. I definitely recommend using Superbuy and their $27 worth of shipping coupons you'll get from Superbuy by just signing up CNFashionPub offers a great deal of hypebeast & streetwear clothing. CNLuxuryPub offers a great deal of designer-wear clothing. CNFashionBuy offers a great deal of streetwear shoes and accessories. The beauty of creating such a simple wardrobe is that you can mix and match in almost any possible combination and end up with a decent looking outfit. 1 or 2 pairs of pants, 5 or 6 tees, 2 or 3 hoodies, a couple of flannels, 1 pair of shoes. Lots of combos. And you've spent less than $250, maybe a lot less. For the price of one Supreme hoodie, you just built an entire wardrobe. It's basic, yes, but it's a start. How do I know what size to buy? This is a VERY important question. Some products will be reproduced with the same original size designations. Others will be shifted to better accommodate their Asian clients. Some items purchased from Tao could be a Large that fits like a US XS. So you really need to pay attention. When you find a piece you like, it's time to pick the correct size. Most of the time, sellers will have a size chart towards the bottom of the item page. You'll have to scroll down a bit to find it. Here are the translations for sizing: 肩宽 - Shoulder Width 胸围 - Bust 衣长 - Length The surefire way of picking the correct size is to identify the type of item you're purchasing (shirt, coat, pants, underwear) and measure an item of that type you own. So, if I wanted to buy a bogo tee, and I didn't know my size, I'd take a shirt that fits me, and measure from shoulder seam to shoulder seam for shoulder width, pit to pit for bust then x2, and bottom of collar to the bottom for the length. The reason you multiply the bust by 2 is because some sellers will have chest circumference listed on their chart, so to get your chest circumference just measure pit to pit and x2. Example here What is shipping going to cost? Shipping works a bit differently than you're probably used to. You will pay a small fee (5-10yuan) for shipping when you first order the item. Then, once your agent has all the items and weighs them, you will pay them for the final shipment of everything from them to you. It is not uncommon for a $150 haul to cost $50 to ship. Keep this in mind when you are budgeting your order. Some agents will offer a service called rehearsal shipping. Rehearsal shipping is when an agent will reweigh your package (for a small fee) to get you the true exact weight. If you feel as if your package weighs too much this is a great option to add on. What shipping option should I choose? There are 3 main shipping options that are frequently used by the FashionReps community and are considered the "go-to" options. DHL - Fast shipping times (average at 3~7 business days) DHL is great for EU packages as it tends to have a lesser seizure rate. US can use DHL too. EMS - Fast shipping times (average at 5~9 business days) EMS is great for US packages. China Post - Slow shipping times (average 15~30 business days) China Post is great if you're looking to ship for a low price and are fine with your items taking a while to arrive. But, OP I want hype shit. I know, me too and so does everyone else who is new to /r/FashionReps. As a general rule, get all the basics before you get any hype. If you wear too much hype or wear hype shit before you figure out how to match and create a good outfit, you'll look bad. I know it's tempting to just put on a full Supreme outfit but you will look like an idiot. However, I can't stop you from needing to satisfy your itch for cheap hype. Start with just tee shirts. Seriously. With stuff other than tees (jackets, pants, embroidered items, etc.) there's a lot more that can go wrong and you don't have a trained eye for details yet. It will come with time and with looking at posts on this sub. Nelly offer a variety of basic wear and is one of the best sellers to go to for non-hype streetwear. CWhat has a great selection of clothes that are low-key and aren't shouting out "Hey, look at me I wear high end streetwear!" Trusted Taobao Store List you can find a large variety of sellers who offer a large amount of clothing brands here. But I want a Supreme BOGO hoodie! Currently there are a few top sellers that offer the top batches for Supreme BOGO Hoodies! Luckily, I've done the research for you so here they are Kingshark is definitely on the top of the game right now with his quality. Mirror has been a long time seller in the /r/FashionReps community and definitely is up to par with Kingshark quality. Teenageclub offers a decent variety of Supreme BOGO Hoodies from the other sellers listed above. Okay, I've got some basics and I looked at Nelly, Cwhat, Kingshark, etc and they don't have X. Where do I get it? The easiest way to find a specific item is to use the Search Bar on this subreddit. Check out links, reviews, etc. If you don't see it, your instinct is probably to create a new thread and ask for links. Please don't do this until you have already tried to find it for yourself. It is so rewarding to hunt down and find an item that no one has posted before. It also helps keep the front page of the sub unclogged with repetitive posts. As you know, TaoBao is mainly in Mandarin Chinese. So typing in "Supreme red tee shirt" won't get you too far. So we use a function on TaoBao called the reverse image search. Here's a nice simple guide to using reverse image search by our mod /u/mikeygigs18. Only addendum I make to that guide is that sometimes to change TaoBao to "Mainland China" it's in the upper left corner of the page rather than the bottom bar. Where do I go from here? Here's a good post from /r/streetwear that lists a lot of guides you can check out to keep expanding your style and trying out new fun stuff. That's all I have for now. Please comment with any questions, I'll be happy to help. Let me know if there's anything I should add to this guide but keep in mind the point is for it to be simple. One more thing, if you are mad or frustrated with the state of the community, the influx of new users, people being mean, whatever, just remember that we're all here for the same reason. We want to look good for the low. So just chill and don't be dicks. Also, if you comment with a question and no one replies then your comment is being hidden because you are on a reddit account with not enough karma. Go participate in some discussions in other subreddits to build up a little so you can post and comment here. submitted by /u/hyperionfr to r/FashionReps [link] [comments]

MFA is More Than a Uniform and a Set of Rules: A Compilation of the Different Styles of MFA
What is this post about? It was inspired by this comment thread between /u/jdbee and /u/alilja. So I decided to see if I couldn't compile a bunch of threads that MFA has seen in the past year or so to show that MFA is more diverse and open-minded than the rest of reddit thinks. Why does reddit think this? /u/Balloons_lol explains it with an excellent analogy: think of it like this. imagine you're in the market for a new chair for your desk. simple enough. last week, you stumbled upon /r/deskchairadvice[1] a while back and saved it, though you never browsed it that thoroughly. well now's the perfect time to ask for some advice. so you post a link to the chair you wanted (or in some cases, you've already bought the chair) and say "Hey guys, what do you think of this chair for my desk?" you get downvoted instantly. the criticism are that the color is a dull grey and looks bad, the cushion won't conform to your body as well as a chair 10x as expensive would, you don't get the best possible arch support, it's not made by a japanese guy with a ponytail, etc. suddenly you realize there is a massive subculture about something you put in little to no thought about. "they're just fucking" chairs you say, and your comment goes way below threshold. then in askreddit you complain about how pretentious these chair people are we're just unfortunate in that everyone is forced to wear clothing and nobody wants to feel like they're bad at it. so when they ask for advice and realize they actually dress pretty badly, it's our fault. we're the ones who are wrong. no real man would spend this much time worrying about clothes. you guys are fags. hmph. A General Overview of What MFA Caters To: In addition to the run-of-the-mill "MFA uniform", preppy-style, cuffed jeans, and suiting posts, we have: guides for heavy guys, athletic dudes, tall men, short blokes, as well as trans fashion help a discussion on non-preppy spring/summer wear streetwear is pretty popular here skater shoes? tattoos bracelets! americana style and made in america down vests are hardly part of the "MFA uniform" camo is cool how would you wear this? yohji vs. rick a.k.a next level fashunz dress how you want to dress part I and part II Breaking the Rules: MFA has often been criticized as stuck-up and snobby for giving out advice based on a set of "arbitrary" and "unbreakable" fashion rules. There's also the idea that MFA "hates" certain items. But that's not true at all. These "rules" aren't set in stone... they're more like guidelines. In the case of beginners, their outfits often need work, and it's easiest to give them imperative advice in a set of rules and/or a list of things that need to be changed. Inadvertently, some come out believing that there is a list of fashion rules you can and can't break, and they don't understand how or why these "rules" come to be. Thus, the myth of the fashion "rulebook" is perpetuated. /u/Syeknom has a great blog post on this. And as /u/ newgale explains it, "clothes isnt maths, you dont go 'this plus this equals appeal' and 'this plus this equals shit'". To put it another way, the "rules" can be broken intentionally in an outfit and work well: this hat guide is very informative doing ties without jackets the vest. hey look cargo pants and light washed denim The Misc. Style Guides: Right in the sidebar are these wonderful guides that give insight to a variety of different styles, as well as a link to the various inspiration albums that have been put together over the course of MFA's existence. All of the guides are well-written and thought out, and provide insight into the mindset as well as the style itself. The inspiration albums, needless to say, are inspiring. bizcaz designer fashion streetwear grungy preppy heavy metal british countryside british subculture goth ninja everywhere misc inspiration albums The Top of WAYWT threads: This is perhaps the best evidence that MFA caters to aesthetics beyond the 'stereotypical' "peacoat/pointer chore coat + light blue ocdb + khaki chinos/dark selvedge denim + CDB/AE Strand" that is the "MFA uniform". I think /u/reverendglasseye puts it well: [The Top of WAYWT will] showcase the sheer variety of stuff we have out here. It's not all a bunch of "effeminate hipsters with pointy girl shoes." We range from simple outfits, to reconstructed pants, to this goth ninja/next level look, to shotguns with suits, to whatever this is. July 2012 August 2012 September 2012 October 2012 November 2012 December 2012 Apparently /u/Contrapaul did this briefly last year as well: December 2011 January 2012 February 2012 And there you have it. There's a lot to MFA beyond the "MFA uniform" that everyone complains about. Remember that MFA is a beginner's forum, and so a lot of our new users will be directed to the time-tested basics, and often they'll be given a set of rules to help them learn the ropes. As /u/carmaugh puts it, "It's like how in sports, you just don't play however you like. One must first learn the rules of the game." Or how in music, you should be able to play a scale before you can start playing Mozart. Teaching the basics of style, in my opinion, is the first great thing that MFA does well. We can help you get a solid footing with a firm grasp on the basics of looking good, and help with simple questions and fit checks. But developing a good aesthetic and sense of style is something that cannot be spoon-fed. Just like how you haven't gained anything if you rely on having people tell you what to think of a new book; you can't look good if you don't understand how your clothes work together, and you can't improve yourself if you're continually reliant on the opinions of others. This is where the second great thing about MFA comes in. We provide the resources to help people find their own sense of style. The many in-depth guides are a great way to truly understand and analyze different aesthetics, from goth ninja to the simple sweatshirt. We have an incredible amount of diversity, and the WAYWTs and inspiration albums are a great place to find inspiration. There's lots of good advice given for a variety of styles. That's what MFA is about. Do what you want to do. See what you want to see. Go where you want to go. Be who you want to be. Be who you've got to be. Be who you're made to be, baby. Male Fashion Advice. is there anything else you think that should be put in here? send me a PM! submitted by /u/inherentlyawesome to r/malefashionadvice [link] [comments]
