My Subaru has destroyed me. What do I do?
I will preface this story by saying this has taken me a a couple weeks to write as my Subaru has absolutely ruined me financially and I have had to pick up extra shifts and sell all my belongings to not be homeless. I am not asking for sympathy or anything. I just want others to hear my experience and get some advice on what I do next. I have evidence for everything and will provide some screen shots. I really hope this doesn’t get taken down because all I’m sharing is a true story. My 2020 Subaru Impreza Hatchback was bought in July 2022. Great car fax report and no mechanical issues or accidents. As a 24 year old I was so excited to have just bought an almost brand new car. I don’t want to give out too many personal details but this car was purchased in New York. It ran great for the first few years. 0 problems, just routine maintenance and oil changes were kept up with as per the dealership standards. I made sure of this because I had purchased the power train extended warranty that covers my car to 100k miles from front to back. I had moved to North Carolina in 2023 and saved up some more money to get myself through the first year of grad school. I enrolled in August of 2024 and As I was going through grad school Hurricane Helene had devastated my area and we had not been able to return to school that semester. Besides losing my job I was ok and my car had been running still and the only problem was a bad wheel bearing through 2024. Now January 2025 rolls around and my car is at 86k miles. Out of nowhere it starts acting strange and not shifting correctly as an automatic engine. As I’m gong to the dealership my car stalls out at a stop light from the RMPS and engine changing so much. The dealership tells me I need an engine flush and acknowledges there is a possibility for a bigger problem but this should fix it. They do the engine flush and my car is running great. I bring my car back for routine maintenance and they find nothing wrong. Fast forward to March 2026, and I now have 102k miles on my car. I am 2,000 miles outside of my warranty. Out of nowhere my car starts making a strange loud ticking noise when I start it. I took a video and posted a screenshot on that video showing all my check engine lights on and my miles. I get it towed straight to the dealership. I find out I need a new engine. The service manager acknowledges that this is an unfortunate situation and reached out to Subarus customer service which is Subaru Of America to see if they can help out with the cost or replace the engine because no Subaru engine should go out at 102k miles. He contacts them first and tells them that I have kept up with all maintenance and tells me to contact them as well. I give them my whole story and let them know what happened and they tell myself and him they cannot do anything besides give me a 1,000 credit towards a new car. I end up paying the 5k to get a used engine put in which they had “accidentally” quoted me 7k for. I go to pickup my car and now the CT Valve body Assembly code came on and apparently I need a $2,000 transmission. Which the couldn’t see until they put a new engine in? I still owe $4k on this car. What do I do? Subaru has been nothing but a nightmare and their customer service has been worse. I am at a loss for words and I’m writing this before finals so I might have missed some details in the story. If you had any questions or any opinions on a next step I would appreciate it. submitted by /u/jamflowman1 to r/subaru [link] [comments]

Subaru dealership destroyed my beloved 2024 Crosstrek with only 13,000 miles!
I took my car to Timmons Subaru Long Beach for regular service and during the oil change they forgot to refill the oil! Can you believe it? The engine was, of course, totally destroyed within a minute of my driving out the lot. Instead of owning up to their negligence, they just breezily said they will replace a “new part” in 2 weeks’ time and hurried me out the door with a loaner. I slept on it and did my own research, then confronted them a week later and only then did they admit that they are replacing the engine. I asked for an extended warranty and service on the new engine. They responded that I have no leverage whatsoever and that I better return the loaner or else they’ll call the cops to report it as stolen by me. This more than adding insult to injury, this is plain coercion! Subaru America’s Customer Advocacy doesn’t even try to help, and keeps pressuring me to return the loaner. Obviously that’s the only thing they care about! Timmons never owned up to their mistakes. They never admitted that their technician forgot to refill engine oil which caused the catastrophic engine failure. They only gave me a work order stating that they will “inspect and advise” a knocking noise from the engine, and just go on to replace the whole engine without even informing and asking for my consent! Is this how we expect dealerships to treat customers: negligently destroy their cars and proceed with replacements without explanation to or consent from customers? force the consumer to accept the replacement as though nothing has happened, as though all is well as before, as though they aren’t held accountable to their lies and intimidation tactics? We are loyal Subaru enthusiasts and this is our second Subaru. My wife loves this car and dubbed it her “little tomato”. Our grievance is not just that they negligently destroyed the engine, but more importantly, the lies, coverup and intimidation tactics afterwards. It makes one question not only the dealership’s technical competence, but more importantly raises doubt about their management style and attitude of the entire brand. This lack of transparency and respect for car owners is most alarming, because if it happened to me, it could happen to anyone and most certainly did happen to others. submitted by /u/chacha4c to r/subaru [link] [comments]

Subaru Japan refused participation by foreign residents at marketing event in Japan yesterday
The "Gelande Taxi" event is designed to demonstrate how Subarus handle in the snow. You ride as a passenger with a professional driver. The poster who took this photo and her husband are both Subaru owners. I'm also a Suabru owner and permanent resident in Japan. I could understand refusing foreign tourists who won't buy a car in Japan, but we live here, and I was actually considering switching to a Layback in the coming years. They're turning away their current customers over nationality. I can't make sense of it. Edit to add: They also didn't mention the exclusion of foreign residents on the website, so there was no way to know without attending the event in person. I believe the poster who took the photo lives about a 2 hour drive away, which isn't exactly a short drive in Japan. If she had attended alone (without her husband), she wouldn't have been able to participate. Edit to add (again): I don't imagine that Subaru corporate decided on this. My guess would be that the event staff on the day did. I don't think it's time to throw out our cars just yet. I would like to see Subaru take responsibility for it and make sure that it doesn't happen again. If it's down to language ability for the consent forms, then participation should be limited to Japanese speakers, rather than excluding foreign residents. submitted by /u/RoyalAnt800 to r/subaru [link] [comments]

I am losing faith in Subaru. No hate. Just disappointment.
The cars are slower. The design language is terrible. The crosstrek is actually really nice, and I did like the last body design of the outback but the new outback looks like a Ford Flex with uglier body lines and plastic for days. I actually think you can succeed in whatever it is they’re trying to do with this design and styling, but they clearly have somebody at the helm who lacks a certain sophistication and skill in making it look good. Look at what they did to the WRX. One of Subaru’s most championed cars became a gutless wonder with plastic cladding. The wilderness models were a step in the right direction, and even though I like the Crosstrek wilderness, there’s not much power in that car when you compare it to the standards of today and what’s available out there Guys, I wanna make it clear. I’m not trying to hate on Subaru. I’m just always finding myself disappointed in the business and design choices they have chosen for years now. Does anybody feel differently? Does anybody actually like the new outback? Edit- speech to text wrecked the grammar and I had to edit this when I read it lol submitted by /u/RedtailGT to r/subaru [link] [comments]

Subaru of Austin Separating Rally the Golden Retriever From His Human of 3 Years
Subaru of Austin owns a Golden Retriever named Rally for marketing purposes. For the last 3 years, Rally has been in the care of the person employed for marketing at Subaru of Austin. Due to a layoff, Rally's human lost their job and is now being forced to return Rally to the dealership. This dealership claims affiliation with the wonderful Austin Pets Alive rescue, yet is knowingly removing Rally from his loving home of the last three years. The injustice here is more than I could bare alone and a lot of folks have already begun trying to pressure Subaru to allow Rally to stay with his human. Subaru of Austin is obviously legally entitled to Rally, but we're all legally entitled to think this is incredibly nasty business and to shop elsewhere. Rally's human made this post on Instagram: "And just like that... Rally and I are no more. Unfortunately, I was let go from my company today and was separated from my boy. I'm completely heartbroken and I'm sure he is as well. THANK YOU to everyone who followed and supported our little journey together for the last 3 years! We grew a bond that no one will never really understand. It was a fun ride and I completely spoiled him every single day without regret. I often got asked "What will happen if you got let go? Would you keep Rally?" I honestly never knew how to answer that question. Now I know. A little advice to any company looking to have a company mascot. Just know this is a long term commitment and NOT just a temporary thing. I originally took this marketing position cuz I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression a month before I had my interview. Once I met Rally, I knew he was the cure for that and he definitely was. He was my rock, my support animal and everything else in between. This will definitely have a long term effect on Rally and I for the rest of our lives. I'm proud of what I tuned him into... just a happy boy who never stopped smiling. I'll need a few days to cope with this empty void in my life for the next few days. Please wish Rally and I the best. We love everyone we met along the way." submitted by /u/Slowpokerman to r/Austin [link] [comments]

🚨 Just a warning for anyone thinking about buying a Subaru. Especially an Ascent.
I have a 2022 Subaru Ascent. I did all the services at the dealership. The full 60,000-mile service was done on time, at around 58,500 miles. Everything was perfect. Then, not long after, at 62,500 miles, my check engine light came on. Turns out, it was way more serious than I expected. The tech found that engine oil had leaked into the transmission harness, engine harness, bulkhead connector, and ECM. The oil basically wicked through the electrical system and damaged everything. The dealership gave me a quote of over $22,000 to fix it. After digging, I found Subaru actually knows this can happen. They published a bulletin (02-190-22R) that talks about a $2 o-ring on the oil level switch. If it’s not replaced correctly during service, it can leak oil that ends up getting into the wiring. It’s a documented issue, and they still sell these cars with this flaw. At first Subaru said only $10K of the repair was related to the known defect. The rest — like resealing the engine and transmission — they claimed wasn’t part of the issue. They agreed to pay 75% of that $10K, which still left me with over $17K to deal with. After a bunch of calls, they finally agreed to help more by reducing the labor on the “non-covered” part, and brought my total out-of-pocket to $7,000. Now yes, it’s better than 22K. And yes, they technically didn’t have to help since I was just over the 60K warranty by 2,500 miles. But let’s be real — they only agreed to help because they know it’s a design flaw. If it wasn’t, they wouldn’t have offered anything. The only reason they paid something is because it proves these cars are being sold with a known weak spot, and this issue is going to happen to more people. This is a 3-year-old car. I followed every service recommendation. I went to their dealership every time. And now I’m out seven grand because of something Subaru could have prevented or at least warned about. I used to be a fan of the brand. I thought Subaru meant reliability and safety. But after this? I will never buy another Subaru again. And I’ll make sure everyone around me knows what happened. If you're thinking about buying one of these cars, especially an Ascent, please think twice. And if you already own one, make sure you get the extended warranty. You might really need it. submitted by /u/Hairy_Weather8137 to r/SubaruAscent [link] [comments]

Would a Subaru really be a mistake?
I'm a grad student living in Tampa, getting my first car. I've had my heart set on a Subaru (Forester, Crosstrek, or Outback), but I've heard from car friends that the motor won't last me. For context, I go camping often, and every summer I make a trip from South FL to the top of a mountain in CO, so it needs to be up to that trip. I've read a lot of opinions from this sub, so I know Honda and Toyota are the general answers (which is also what my friends have told me), and a lot of the Subaru hate is outdated/memes. I have also considered 4runner, CRV, and RAV4, but I really don't want too large a car, especially in the front, which is part of what I like about Subarus. I guess I'll just list what other features I'd prefer: -rear view camera -4WD or AWD -CD player (if possible, can cope without) -console with actual separate knobs/buttons, as opposed to the modern ones where everything is one big screen -fold down backseat Again, I know Honda or Toyota would be reliable choice, but would a Subaru really be out of the question if I keep up with maintenance/oil? Any answers, info, experiences, or opinions would be welcome. Thanks!! Edit: Thank you everyone for your answers!! Very helpful, will definitely consider everything here as I still have a bit of time before I have to decide. submitted by /u/InternetSecure2550 to r/whatcarshouldIbuy [link] [comments]

I literally just left children's hospital from a union toy drive, and was on my way to zoo lights with my girlfriend. I got whiplash pretty bad, but am fine. As I type this, the pie is still there, waiting to be cleaned up.. submitted by /u/Soggy_Fart_King to r/Wellthatsucks [link] [comments]
