The supplement approach that finally calmed my skin (after years of trying everything else)
Not sure if this belongs here, but I wanted to share in case it helps someone. I spent most of my teens and early twenties with stubborn acne the kind that survives every cleanser, every routine, antibiotics, even accutane. When it came back a few months after accutane, I honestly felt wrecked. Eventually I stopped chasing products and started paying attention to what was going on internally. My digestion had been a mess for years (I didn’t even realise how bad it was until I fixed it), so I started experimenting with fibers, prebiotics, probiotics… all the usual gut-health suspects. The annoying part was that everything helped a little, but nothing worked on its own. Inulin alone helped a bit. Resistant starch helped a bit. Psyllium helped a bit. But nothing moved the needle by itself. So I did the most unhinged thing ever: I sourced the raw ingredients myself, had bags of powders shipped to Denmark, and spent months testing combos and ratios. Eventually I landed on a mix that just clicked for me. I even had it lab-tested because I didn’t want to mess around. Expensive mistake if it hadn’t worked, lol. The blend that made the difference for me was basically: • inulin (chicory root) • resistant starch (RS2) • PHGG • apple fiber • baobab • a tiny amount of ultra-fine psyllium • ginger • dandelion root • plus a stable probiotic (Bacillus coagulans) Nothing exotic just the right amounts together. When I finally got the ratio right, my gut calmed down within days. Less bloating, better digestion, more stable energy. Then the skin inflammation slowly followed. Not overnight, but noticeably. I’m not claiming this is some universal acne cure acne has a thousand causes. But for me, the gut skin connection was huge, and I wish someone had told me sooner that balancing fibers/prebiotics matters just as much as “take a probiotic.” If anyone wants to know: • the exact ingredients I tried that didn’t work • how I tested things without blowing up my stomach • or why certain fibers complement each other I’m happy to share. And if there’s interest, I might get a proper small batch made just so people don’t have to order 8+ bags of powders and play scientist like I did. It was pretty fun tho😅😅 submitted by /u/williwulff to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

TIFU by mixing random supplements for months and destroying my gut
Got into the whole health optimization thing after new years, following biohacking influencers and fitness people posting their supplement routines. Started simple with vitamin D cause I work remotely. Then magnesium, ashwagandha for stress, zinc, pre-workout, and some herbal focus thing from amazon. Ended up taking like 8 different things twice a day. By August my stomach was completely screwed. I started getting heartburn at first then it continue to bloating, cramps, exhaustion even though I was "doing everything right." Thought maybe it was food intolerance or something. Finally saw my doctor last week and she checked everything and told me I'd been poisoning myself. Had to stop everything. My gut is wrecked now and I need probiotics to fix it. Wasted $400 over six months thinking I was being healthy. Don't mix random supplements without talking to a doctor first. Learn from my dumbass mistake. TL;DR: Mixed around 7 supplements for the past months not being aware of what I was putting in my body, destroyed my gut and wasted $400. Zinc blocked copper, bad interactions, sketchy Amazon stuff. Always check with doctors first." submitted by /u/LividLawfulness4962 to r/tifu [link] [comments]

A fellow coworker believes the coffee shop job we work is "supplemental income."
I work at a well known coffee shop and my co-workers and I were discussing an internal survery we all had to complete which asked us about our level of satisfaction with our pay. I firmly believe we do not make enough, in fact, I have a second job. My coworker stated that minimum wage was not meant to cover all our bills and if we needed more money we needed to get a different job. Otherwise, that would be "communism." When I argued that was not true, she said I must not have learned enough in economics class. What version of the matrix am I in? submitted by /u/CatVietnamFlashBack to r/antiwork [link] [comments]

Be careful with iron supplements
Hey guys, I was reading in here for awhile and didn't post much. I had low ferritin and some alarming symptoms and decided to start taking 60mg of iron every other day in the morning two hours before breakfast without food. I have had digestive issues (hence need for iron) for a long time including acid reflux. My acid reflux had been in remission for about two years. For the first month I was taking these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00020HSGM?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 After that I switched to these and continued that same dosage and timing for another month https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09N25B65N?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 Last week I ended up in the ER with the worst abdominal pain of my life and vomiting. I was so out of it in pain the nurse found me on the ER bathroom floor when it was my turn for triage. Long story short the iron supplementation caused stomach ulcers. Looking back I did notice a return of acid reflux shortly after starting the iron, I just thought I was being too lax with my diet. Now I am only able to eat well cooked oats, rice and broth basically and I have to take PPIs to allow the ulcers time to heal - these make nutrient absorption difficult including iron because they cause the body to produce much less stomach acid. So...I'm worse off than before with the low ferritin issue. edit: I meant to say also...if I could go back in time I would not take the iron obviously. I would have worked on solving my absorption issue by working on gut health and improving my nutrition. I know that would have meant more time feeling like crap from the low ferritin but the pain and agony I have been in over the last several days was definitely not worth it. submitted by /u/FitOpportunity543 to r/Anemic [link] [comments]

My millennial girlies: WTF is up with supplements?!
As a 39yo with perimenopause symptoms but regular periods and therefore my GP is of the opinion that “tough luck, we can’t help”. I feel like my kitchen counter is now being overtaken by all these bottles and potions! Targeted ads are popping up convincing me that I need more stuff, and in my quest to feel less shit I keep trying more stuff. I have: Elvanse for obvious purposes. NMN because it allegedly boosts energy, helps with sleep quality and fights signs of aging. I’ve been on it ages and I don’t even know if it works, but I’m scared to cancel it in case I then wake up one morning a week later and my face looks like it’s melting and I never sleep again. B-complex because apparently many ND folk don’t absorb B-vitamins too well from foods. I probably don’t since my B12 is not great but not low enough to warrant second line testing according to the GP. Iodine because the UK don’t have iodised table salt and probably all adults here are deficient. (I know it’s available somewhere but not always easy to find, compared to other countries that routinely add it to table salt) I’ve ordered myo-inositol for the hormonal bollocks, and now I’m researching collagen. I’m under no delusion that I can look 22 again, but I’d like to maintain joint health as long as possible and better skin would be a welcome bonus! Magnesium and ashwagandha for sleep and stress tolerance. Iron. My ferritin was low a year ago and I got it up to a reasonable level with heavy supplementation. When I stopped it dropped again so now I take it regularly to maintain. I don’t see zinc mentioned? I’m pretty sure that’s included in something else. Otherwise, do I need yet one more thing?! 🫠 Do I really need all this shit? What can I drop? Is anyone else like this? Whyyyy are we getting oooold? 😭😂 submitted by /u/VegetableWorry1492 to r/adhdwomen [link] [comments]

Supplements you NEED and DON’T
Hey guys, The supplement industry aka Nutraceutical Industry has grown 4 times since 2020. Since we’ve tried to take care of our health, fearmongering has reached its peak. It is estimated to be USD 8-10 Billion by the end of 2025. Fearmongering aka hitting your insecurity is the best way for any brand to sell you something you don’t really need. So let me help you breakdown the supplements you might need and the ones you DON’T. What do you need? If you find it hard to complete your protein requirement, you can consider protein supplements. BUT WHICH ONE? Whey protein has a very good absorption rate when compared to plant protein. 6/10 people want to shift to plant protein due to digestive issues. Before you shift to plant protein, give this a shot. Try unflavoured protein if you can handle lactose. WHY? Brands use acids to mimic the taste of chocolate, mango, or whatever. When these acids are cheap and low grade, they tend to disrupt gut microbiome. Creatine is undoubtedly the most researched supplement. Creatine enters our muscles and is stored as phosphocreatine, when ATP(Adenosine triphosphate) aka energy is used it becomes ADP(Adenosine diphosphate). Phosphocreatine donates its phosphate to ADP making it ATP aka more energy packets. Well there are people suggesting the advantages of creatine on cognitive function like Huberman Uncle, I personally haven’t noticed any cognitive benefits from creatine. But, helps me get jacked in the gym :) If you have a history of kidney or liver issues, I would suggest you consult your doctor before you consume creatine. Caffeine/ Pre-Workouts: Caffeine has enough RTI’s and meta analysis to back its efficiency. Consuming caffeine blocks your adenosine receptors, making you feel “not drowsy”, it also releases stimulatory neurotransmitters like dopamine making you feel energetic. You can consume a good pre workout. BUT, I wouldn't suggest caffeine or pre workouts to beginners. First fall in love with the process, consider supplements later. What you don’t need? Fruits are packed with vitamins and so is your diet, if you’re having a balanced diet. Supplementing with MULTIVITAMIN when you don’t know what you’re deficient in isn't a wise thing to do. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE BODY IS DEFICIENT IN, why supplement random things? Get your bloodwork and supplement what you're deficient in! Fat burners: If your fat burner is caffeine based, you’re better off drinking coffee. But what it does is high doses of caffeine increases your heart rate which in return burns more calories. If this sounds like a good idea to you, you’re wrong, DON’T. L-Carnitine is a supplement promoted for fatloss. Studies show that only 5-10% of it gets absorbed into the blood. BUT, there still isn’t any study which suggests that L-Carnitine gets into your mitochondria. THUS, not enough evidence. DON’T. BCAA: They contain amino acids such as leucine, isoleucine, and valine. You can attain all of these amino acids when you have a balanced meal. From meat, dairy and lentil products. Until you’re an extremely strict VEGAN, BCAA would do nothing to you. Comment what supplements you have questions with, I’d love to help you out. Hope this helps :) submitted by /u/Neureos to r/Fitness_India [link] [comments]

AITA for refusing to pay my daughter as much as my son and refusing to supplement her check so that their equal?
My two oldest kids are in college and working part time to earn spending money. They live at home and we pay for their tuition, cars, insurance, basically everything except their spending money. I have my own small construction company and run a crew of about 15 men including my son. Lately we’ve been doing mostly roofing jobs. My son’s job is to help take off the old shingles, pick up any shingles that miss the dumpster, and help prep the roof. Once the installation starts, he delivers a steady stream of shingles, nails, and other materials to the nailers. It’s a dangerous and hard job so I pay him about $25/hr. My daughter works as a cashier but most of the time she’s standing at the self checkout lanes and rarely behind the register. She’s paid about $15/hr. Last weekend my son bought his girlfriend a new iPhone for valentines and was talking about the restaurant he’s going to take her. Since it’s an expensive phone and restaurant, my daughter asked where he’s getting the money. That led to how much I’m paying him and she got mad. He’s been working with me for about 4 months but she’s never shown any interest in what we do or ask anything about his job or pay so it came as a surprise to her. The short version of a week long argument in our house is that she thinks It’s unfair he’s making so much more than she is. I offered her the same hourly wage if she wants to join her brother on the roof but she went once and didn’t finish out the day. Instead she wants us to make up the difference between their paychecks. My wife thinks I should come up with an easier job like just let her pick up the shingles that miss the dumpsters. I said that’s an easy job and I’m not paying her $25/hr for a minimum wage job. I told her that she can make as much as her brother but she doesn’t want to carry heavy and dirty singles. Now both women are giving me the silent treatment. Last night when my wife went so far as to eat dinner with our daughter before my son and I got home at 6 and later went to bed without saying a word to me all night. update Hi and thank you for reading my post and giving me your opinions. I’ll answer some common questions. My wife doesn’t work, she stays at home and take care of our younger kids. I didn’t make it clear but our daughter works for a grocery store, not for me. I have a very small company. With 15 men, I have 2 crews on large jobs or 3 on smaller jobs. There’s no bookkeeping or other positions she can do because I do those on the weekends. There’s only the construction positions. None of our kids have any interest in taking over my company and it’ll close when I retire. Our son just got accepted into dental school and our daughter is almost done with her education degree. Our younger kids have their own dreams. submitted by /u/ConsistentDetail834 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
