Tomatoes don’t belong on any type of sandwich or burger
I’m pretty sure most people either ask to remove tomatoes from a sandwich or burger when ordering or ask to put it on the side. Why on the side? Because they don’t want the tomato to make the burger or sandwich buns soggy before it comes to the table. But if you put the tomato on the burger yourself, the juices still inevitably seep into the buns by the time you’re half way through eating it because you’re squeezing the burger as you eat, which makes it taste bad in the end. Not only do tomatoes make sandwiches soggy, but when you bite into the sandwich, it’s hard to get a clean bite out of the tomato so you’re just left there awkwardly trying to gnaw off the tomato at a public restaurant and when you fail, you end up pulling the whole tomato slice out, which just ruins the eating experience. Tomatoes make burgers too wet and juicy, so you end up having tomato secretions drip down your hands, to your arms, all the way down to your elbows. It’s truly a horrifying and infuriating thing to experience. Finally, tomatoes just don’t enjoy being in a sandwich or burger. They literally try to run away as soon as you bite into the burger, hoping that they will fall out the harder you squeeze the buns. Just let them live their carefree, unrestricted lives in salads, pastas, and any other dish where they aren’t subject to being squeezed into oblivion by everyone’s tortuous hands. Help my tomatoes are out of control?
Hello I am new at gardening and I think I planted everything way too close together. I have a 4 x 8 garden bed with peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and basil in it. My tomatoes are growing so high. I’ve heard I should clip them at the top and then they will start producing more fruit. Is this true? This is for my cherry tomatoes and my Roma’s. I also have some tomatillos. submitted by /u/YoCarrie to r/tomatoes [link] [comments]

San Marzano Peeled Tomatoes Fake?
What’s up with the Costco cento tomatoes? I buy these every month but this is the first time I bought from Costco. These look like cherry tomatoes instead of standard San Marzano tomatoes. Also, it should have a basil leaf but not a single can out of 6 had a single basil leaf. Anyone else have this issue? ETA: Finished the sauce. I make this using 5-6 cans every 4-6 weeks. I usually get the cans from my local organic market or another local market. This was my first time buying from Costco. At the start, I really didn’t think I’d notice a big difference. I thought if anything, it would just maybe be a little sweeter since they seamed to be cherry tomatoes. I was expecting it to still come out as amazing as always. I was totally wrong. It really is completely different. It tastes more watery, less of a full body flavor to it. This tastes more like store bought regular sauce or sauce from a basic Italian restaurant instead of the richer full bodied flavor that you get from a good restaurant or homemade sauce. Definitely will never buy these again. Also, I’ll add that I have sometimes bought DOP and sometimes I haven’t. I’ve used cento many times before. This is the first time they have come out like this. And the first time I am seeing no basil leaves (as it says on the can). Update!: I contacted cento and received a response! They said it was a mislabeling issue and offered me a replacement. submitted by /u/GizzyIzzy2021 to r/Costco [link] [comments]

My husbands family cancelled my birthday plans - tofu, spinach and tomato sandwich
My birthday is coming up and I told my husband exactly what I want to do - go to the annual arts/music festival in our city. I am pregnant and I want to eat tons of food truck food and dance to reggae cover bands with my belly out. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I’m notified that my husbands aunt and her family are in town on my birthday. My husband tells them we can’t visit because we already have birthday plans. She guilt trips him saying they’re in town to throw me a baby shower? With five people? Even though they are already invited to my actual baby shower? And now he’s trying to convince me I’ll be too pregnant to want to go to the festival and we should just go to his grandmas instead. I’m disabled from a bad accident and can’t drive myself to the festival. Could hire a car. My best friend moved away and my other close friends live out of state in my hometown. I’m lonely, mad, and feel unimportant. submitted by /u/lilelbows to r/GirlDinnerDiaries [link] [comments]

You can just use the whole tiny can of tomato paste. It's fine.
I see people on here frustrated all the time about what to do with extra tomato paste... recipes rarely call for it, but when they do it's usually like half of that tiny can and then you have a weird amount left over. I struggled with this for years. Sure you can buy the squeezy tubes instead, they're great, but sometimes the can is what you have. Just use the whole can! It's really not adding that much to whatever you're probably making with it anyway, and if anything it'll probably be more delicious. "Oh no! My chili is packed with too much savory tomato goodness!" You will never hear people say this. It is a nonsense phrase. I've started doing it every single time and I haven't had a problem yet. They have been lying to us. Join me in casting off our shackles. EDIT: I am getting a bunch of comments berating me personally from people who say this is horrible advice because they do not like tomatoes. If you do not like tomatoes, I would encourage you to do some self-reflection on whether you are the target audience of this advice before commenting. submitted by /u/rawlingstones to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Learn from my stupid tomato mistake
Hello! I froze 20-25lb of tomato's a few days ago. Today I was thawing them in a strainer and there was sooo much water. So, in all my infinite wisdom I decided to squeeze the rest of the water out! My yield wasn't what I hoped for so I asked a safe canning group on Facebook. Turns out the "water" is where all the acidity is, and they are potentially not safe despite the addition of lemon juice. I JUST canned them today mere hours ago so back into the freezer they go I am beyond upset with myself BUT this was my first ever time canning tomatoes. I am glad I asked the question and now I know! Learn from my mistake. Here's a photo of my beautiful jars. I made 6 250ml pizza sauces and three crushed tomatoes. The two jars on the right were from garden tomatoes I didn't squeeze the water from so they get to stay :) submitted by /u/Sad_Sandwich5864 to r/Canning [link] [comments]

Why store bought tomatoes are so awful. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Most tomatoes today are super hybrids engineered to be harvested by machines (hard as potatoes), transported long distances, resistant to diseases, able to sit on shelves for long times without rotting and stay nice and red. So they don't taste so good, like cardboard. Who cares? We do, that's why we grow our own! https://preview.redd.it/s5m1m2lkn8ve1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5d2631f8ba0b0a857898fe879d67be213fd4fc9 submitted by /u/IamCassiopeia2 to r/vegetablegardening [link] [comments]

Tomatoes - What a waste of time.
I grew a lot of different heirloom varieties from seed this year, my first time trying with tomatoes. A few of them were beefsteak varieties growing outside. The plants have grown well and are pretty big, I have taken the tops off. I can see a small handful of tomatoes forming, but i'd say 90% of my plants are just flowers, so getting there, but pretty late. They are big and in pots which are taking up a lot of space. Due to the time of year and the weather - chill in the air this morning - should I just give up and compost them? It doesn't look like we are going to have the sun or any decent heat now going forward, and as I say they are taking up a lot of space. If there is a chance they might do something I am happy to leave them, but mid August, cooler weather, lots of rain, I don't personally know if they have a chance, as I say it is my first time. Courgettes - leaves full of mould, fruits rotting - What an awful year. I started gardening when I was 15, so 33 years. First and probably last time trying out vegetables. submitted by /u/ohnoitsmedoh to r/GardeningUK [link] [comments]
