They say they are desperate, they don't have chances, but at the same time no single mothers, no fat women, no sluts, no gold diggers (they have no gold usually but still). No desperate women who want to settle, they are not beta. No this or that. Does this sound desperate at all? Don't get me wrong, men are entitled to whatever standards they want, the issue is that 1) they blame women for having any 2) they lie about having any to pretend to be this poor desperate beings. Because if they phrase it not "there is no chance at all for me" but "i'm not attractive to people I want" the problem stops being huge, and the only reaction is "So what? For the first time in Trinidad and Tobago’s history, women are holding all three of the highest political offices, Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, and President all at the same time. Kamla Persad-Bissessar just won the general election and will be Prime Minister again, while Pennelope Beckles-Robinson is stepping in as Opposition Leader, and Christine Kangaloo continues as President. It’s honestly incredible to see an entire country's political leadership made up of women, especially in a region where politics has traditionally been male-dominated. Growing up Caribbean, I know how significant this moment is. Change feels slow sometimes, but moments like these really do show that progress is happening. I can say first hand that the leaders of both parties are the defacto leaders with very little others in the party having as much influence as they are. A few weeks ago on the Todd McShay show, Eagles GM Howie Roseman talked a lot about forming the championship team, his path to becoming a GM, his philosophy. But buried in the middle of the video (starting at 12:39, until 13:56) was a strong statement about the Eagle's policies towards signing players who have committed violence against women. It was way too long to fit in the title (sorry for my butcher work) but I love his thoughts on the subject: “We have some objective things that I can’t even overrule, and they’re ours, you know. Like for one, violence against women. It’s just not for us. I won’t even watch ‘em, I don’t even wanna talk about it, it just is dealbreakers for us. So I can’t go, ‘but he’s really good, and he did it ten years ago, and he learned from it’ — it’s just doesn’t work for us. I got 4 kids. I want them to be able to walk in the locker room and me not have to go, ‘skip over that locker.’ Now that doesn’t mean we’ve got perfect guys. They’re from different backgrounds, you know, some pop off more than others. Our head coach does that sometimes — you know, he’s my guy! But I think for us, having good people, having people you can rally around… I think our two championship teams had really good people. And now it’s like — you can’t tell me that we can’t win with good people, like we can’t be at the top of the mountain with good people. And it’s the same off the field.” I loved the part about wanting to be proud of each player in front of his kids. He's a real good dude, an amazing GM, and makes a great point about the warped idea that teams have to sign abusers to stay competitive. edit: Jalen Carter racing somebody else who crashed does not make this not a good policy, and it’s crazy that the rest of the league somehow gets a pass.
