Otherwise, you often fire only a single shot before being forced to reload again. This can be quite frustrating, especially in situations where the enemy only needs two or three more hits. Push Square - Stephen Tailby - 8 / 10 Pragmata knows its strengths and leans into those hard, and the result is a cracking action game that just feels brilliant to play. One could argue it could do with a little more variety throughout its campaign, but the game's unique hack-and-shoot combat is so fun and so satisfying to pull off that you won't mind doing it over and over again. The game world is beautifully conceived and the interplay between our lead character genuinely heartwarming, but it's the combat with its dynamic blend of shooting and hacking that is the main draw here and it makes other third person games feel pedestrian by comparison. ThreeTwoPlay - Michael Seifert - German - 4.5 / 5 With its perfectly thought-out gameplay-focused approach and unconventional combinations of ideas, Pragmata delivers a completely unique action experience which I'm glad can exist in the current AAA gaming space. While the combination of gun combat, hacking and dodging can be a bit intimidating at first and certainly isn't for everyone, it was done flawless for me and I had an incredibly good time with the game. The optional challenges provide additional motivation, the interactions between Hugh and Diana are always enjoyable and the game kept me completely entertained right up to the brilliantly staged finale. UPDATE: My (23F) Boyfriend (24M) got really jacked and now I’m no longer attracted to him
Hi, I really don’t feel obligated to update but I felt it was a little important due to the amount of attention my post got. Before doing so though I wanted to address everything systematically, so scroll down a bit if you only want the update. My lack of desire does not come from the fact that his body has changed. It comes specifically from the type of ultra-fit his body has changed into. Upon reflection, I kind of just find the bulging muscles, super veiny, dehydrated and shrink-wrapped look gross. I still think I speak for a lot of woman when I say this. That’s all to say it’s a preference! I don’t care what you think is good looking. I’m talking about myself and my relationship, which should only consists of two people’s opinions. Speaking of opinions, I tried my best to read all the comments and wow people got passionate lol. Breaking up was never on the table and the insistence we do so was profoundly unhelpful. I’ll acknowledge that, upon reflection, I have a bias towards certain body types. But so do almost everyone else, mine partially stems from being in the dance world but the sentiment I have towards a super chiseled look is shared by a lot of women! I would even go so far as to say most. One of the things I did take away from my previous post is that I was doing nothing good by keeping myself from talking to him. Between our schedules and other complications (getting sick, last minute travel) we finally got the chance and I got the courage to talk about two weeks ago. We were in the house joking around and chatting about various plans as well as reflecting on our past. Some good advice I took from here was to phrase it along the lines of “I miss your old body”, to which he didn’t react to the revelation positively or negatively. He just gave me some affection and we continued doing our own thing. This last weekend we had an event to go to that was somewhat affiliated with fitness, there I asked if he was doing it for himself or if there was something underlying. So we finally had a more productive conversation where we were able to lay down that: yes he’s noticed I’ve pulled away sexually, but he attributed it to general life changes and stress. He now knows I’m not into his body the way it is currently, feelings were bruised a bit on both sides but nothing we can’t/haven’t already gotten over. He has a desire to spend more quality time together, this might mean cooking together again or manifest as going to the gym with him as I primarily attend my work provided one. Any other suggestions about how to increase time together without expending too much energy? Lastly, he’s been working out so hard in his own self interest, but we were able to uncover that it’s more of a stress response and a way of obtaining control than a desire to look a certain way. I should’ve prefaced but didn’t at the time because I felt that it was too much information to divulge online, but he’s in his final semester of a graduate degree in epidemiology, which you can imagine is extremely important and stressful. On top of that, as well as actively searching for post-graduate employment, his father is in hospice. Which is actually where I got the tip off that he might potentially propose soon, as he would want his father to see him engaged before he passes. Also to add: as for why I couldn’t just open up and talk to him, with our current schedules we only see each other for a few hours in the evening if lucky and it was much more important to me that we have a pleasant evening and unwind than bring up something potentially uncomfortable. So all in all: he’s aware, we had a mature conversation about it, we uncovered where the actual tension originates, we might try to start cooking together/going out again, and we still love each other but it would probably be a good idea for him to see a therapist for a second after all this. Overall it’s a small bump in our relationship, not the devastating crash and burn Reddit likes for it to be. I’m looking at it through the lens of “this too shall pass”. There’s being fit for health, which we both already were, and there’s jacked for aesthetics. I do not think pushing to achieve such a physique is an upgrade in any way. I do not find it healthy, nor do I think it’s sustainable. Jealously and insecurity have nothing to do with the fact that I think dieting for an ultra-low body fat percentage should not and cannot be construed as bettering yourself. Having so much muscle mass doesn’t, in fact, correlate directly to strength and the cardiovascular and hormonal risks are not worth it. The discipline is admirable but I think we’re in a strange place in history where some people find that such proportions are the peak of human performance and are most desirable, and that it is something that is realistic and attainable that everyone should strive towards. At a certain point putting so much focus on body composition and having such a tight grip on your food restrictions borders on orthorexia. I was a dancer I know what eating disorders look like. I can say with confidence that I feel like, along with being more attractive, my boyfriend was healthier before all this. I’m not showing him this post partially because of the proposal thing but also because you guys can kind of be assholes lol. TLDR: We spoke. The real villain is stress. Can we talk about Ugly Privilege?
Ok so we know about pretty privilege but can we talk about Ugly Privilege? 😅 I’ve been solo travelling for the last 3 months and while I’m travelling I’m in comfy clothes, have my hair tied back in a messy bun (usually hasn’t been washed in daaaaays) and I don’t wear make up. I very much go unnoticed. And omg is it amazing when you’re a solo female traveller! I don’t get hassled as much/don’t get stared at (except in India but classic lol) and generally get left alone which is a privilege in itself. Now that’s not to say I think of myself as ugly but I haven’t been attracting the male gaze while I’m in my traveller aesthetic and it’s felt FREEING. Here’s one I did that with: lauding something as “the movie we need right now.” That’s a phrase so cringe I’m ashamed I ever used it. The reason I bring this up is that “Project Hail Mary” is a cosmic adventure that feels diagrammed, if not programmed, to be The Movie We Need Right Now. It will likely be a hit, but the movie we need right now — or, really, anytime — is one whose drama extends beyond its ability to push our buttons...So forgive me if I say that it’s not a very good movie. There’s certainly an abstract commercial grandeur to it. I saw it on an IMAX screen (it will open on many of those), where it becomes the kind of bedazzling warm bath your eyeballs can sink right into. But here’s the rub. “Project Hail Mary” is way too long (two hours and 36 minutes), because there’s not much variation to it. It’s baggy and incredibly derivative of movies you’ve seen before — like “Interstellar,” from which it lifts the premise of a space voyage as the last chance for human survival (in this case, the sun and other stars are dying, which means that we’ve got to travel to the lone star that isn’t in order to figure out why). AwardsWatch - Trace Sauveur - 'A-' For their part, Lord and Miller are assured chaperones of all the disparate elements of design, both on Earth and in space. The pair know the kind of movie Project Hail Mary is meant to be — a pop blockbuster with an earnest approach, lovable characters, and formidable stakes — and pull it off with fluency, the work of directors who know their craft even at this expansive scale. To do all that and keep things zippily entertaining throughout is an extraordinary achievement. Besides, as jaunty as it is, Project Hail Mary is radical in its own way. Surely, it’s even better if you don’t. Esquire - Miranda Collinge For All Its Adorable Intentions, Ryan Gosling's Alien Buddy Movie Fails to Land. Gosling’s efforts in this movie are valiant, as they tend to be: he does comedy prat falls, trepidatious space walks, and delivers as best he can the not especially hilarious script, which is bogged down further by excessive exposition of pretend science and plot rationale. And he really wants us to feel – desperately feel – the way Grace does about his new friendship with a CGI creature who looks like the lovechild of Makka Pakka from In The Night Garden and a fidget spinner. (The fact that Rocky doesn’t have the soulful eyes of Hooch the French Mastiff or Clyde the Orangutan – or, in fact, any eyes at all – certainly doesn’t help.) I know I’ve made the point already, but really, I’m as shocked as anyone not to have been won over by this film. When it comes to Gosling, there is not an SNL monologue or a surprising-Eva-Mendes-on-her-birthday Jimmy Fallon appearance or a viral interview with a journalist stranded in the desert that I will not watch and be utterly charmed by. And yet, even with his magnetism set to hyperdrive, Gosling can’t make this wannabe-feel good film dazzle the way it wants to. It pains me – desperately pains me! – to say it, but in my eyes (sorry to rub it in, Rocky), Project Hail Mary is a well-intentioned miss. Cinemotic - Piers Marchant - 2 / 5 As with the previous adaptation of Weir’s work, it’s a film that gleefully presents basic scientific principles and logic clumsily sewn together with a story and outlook that feels very much like something an enterprisingly affable 15-year-old might come up with while daydreaming in Physics class. The film too often defaults to this sort of cringey geniality, a simplistic view of human emotional mechanics that renders the drama toothless. Like a warm-hearted kids’ Disney movie, you know full well things will turn out just fine for our heroes, and the galaxy they’re defending, because the film constantly telegraphs its cheerful intentions. It’s as if Lord and Miller (and Weir) are afraid of making the audience feel real anxiety or stress, so like a second-grade teacher explaining the concept of greenhouse gasses with their students, they work very hard to let all of us know everything will work out okay. It’s certainly not the worst quality in a film, but its lack of stress well belays its extended run time (156 mins), and makes for an unsatisfying experience: My parents saved the Cosmos and all I got was this lousy t-shirt. AV Club - Jacob Oller - 'B' Project Hail Mary isn’t all that concerned with the science in its fiction; like the inverse of its slacker-cool scientist lead, the film is actually a schlubby buddy comedy dressed up in the finest hard sci-fi regalia that Amazon MGM could afford. It’s a far less nuts-and-bolts affair than The Martian, and a more frustratingly structured one thanks to the amnesia, but it doubles down on the astronaut charm offensive, flooding its sweet space odyssey not with big questions, but small signs of growth. GamesRadar - Molly Edwards - 4 / 5 Stumbles aside, the film adeptly captures the sense of wonder and thrill of progress that goes hand in hand with space exploration, with Grace and Rocky as our heart-stealing guides. Project Hail Mary is ultimately the kind of big-budget, inventive, and just plain fun filmmaking that makes heading out to the theater worthwhile – and proves worth the expense. Am I out of touch, or is 3 Lakhs for bridal makeup actually insane?
I was browsing through some MUAs (Makeup Artists) for my upcoming wedding, and I am genuinely floored. Some of these artists are charging ₹3,00,000 for a bridal look. For context, that is: The cost of a decent second-hand car. Two semesters of tuition for many degrees. A very comfortable 2-week luxury vacation in Europe. I understand "skill," "luxury products," and "years of experience," but at the end of the day... it’s makeup. It washes off at 2:00 AM with some micellar water. Has anyone actually paid this (or knows someone who did)? Was the "glow" visible from space? Is there a point of diminishing returns? Does a 3-lakh face really look 10x better than a 30k face? Are we just paying for the MUA’s Instagram aesthetic and their flight tickets? I feel like the wedding industry has reached a level of gatekeeping and delusion that I can't wrap my head around. Indefinite Backpack Travel - Year 11 Update!
Not sure how many onebaggers reach their second decade! For better or for worse, nothing has really changed since my post last year, since I have achieved “onebag perfection.” Still, I'll keep up the tradition of posting here annually I still live out of the 9 liter Aer bag I've had since 2021 (Aer actually updated their website to say it's 8.5L), and still only own what fits in the bag (plus a few outfit duplicates at my NYC homebase so I don’t need to do laundry as often). I’ve since learned that every travel SSD has this issue. I repeat, every travel SSD has corruption issues! Plan for it! Anyways, I decided if I’m gonna have to deal with the risk of corruption I may as well switch to tiny Samsung USB-C thumb drives that disappear in my pockets. Haven't had any issues with them so far! I got rid of my iPad, since it stopped being a device for art and creativity and became a device for movies and games. I will eventually add it back when the time is right As of this past winter I’ve been trying out a canvas jacket, which could never in a million years fit inside my bag but can be worn while on the move. Stacked on top of my down jacket + hoodie + shirt it gives me maximum cold protection and also has pockets to enable zero-bag travel I added a baseball cap. Purely an aesthetic choice I didn’t even make a new knoll photo, since you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Just pretend the iPad and SSD were replaced by a jacket and hat. And that's literally all the changes since last year! Hogwarts Legacy is uninspired and it fumbles most major decisions
Look. When I started HL I never expected to find a riveting story. All I wanted was an immersive world, interesting gameplay and a compelling Hogwarts castle. It's been 55 hours. It took me nearly 5 months to get to the last stages of the game. I stopped multiple times due to the constant crashes on PC. What can I say... I've enjoyed some parts of the game. I REALLY liked some things. But overall I'm left extremely disappointed. I won't be finishing this one. Everytime the game introduces something interesting, it immedaitely undermines it. All this game had to do was stick to the tried and tested design of most open world games. It doesn't do that. The first few hours of the game is a lie. It's all just presentation and it drops off quickly. THE WORLD Every game must be an open world game with a massive map. This is law. HL has a really beautiful Hogwarts Castle. The Hogsmeade village and Forbidden Forest areas are really well done. I dont give a shit about any other part of the map. This gigantic world is littered with copy pasted magical villages. The main quest constantly sends you to different corners of the map for no reason. It's best parts are severely underused. You see that faithfully reconstructed magical school? I want it to be 2-3 times the size. I would gladly see the map size reduce to a third if you made a more complex and compelling Hogwarts castle. I don't want to dive into anonymous cave #18. I want to unravel the secrets of a mysterious magical castle, explore the dangerous forest, I want to mix and mingle with the inhabitants of Hogsmeade. The part that makes me frustrated is how beautiful it all is, and how little I appreciate them because the quality is upended by quantity. HOGWARTS IS REDUNDANT The game doesn't care that you are a student. Hogwarts Castle is supposed to be the HUB area. It isn't. It's featured in a handful of missions. Everything else you do is away from the school. Every mission kicks you out of the school grounds to explore the above mentioned generic open world. There is no social system. There is no 'roleplay'. For a game named Hogwarts Legacy it sure hates Hogwarts. Imagine the Arkham games kept throwing you out of Gotham and into the highways surrounding the city. That's what it feels like. Hogwarts has maybe 5 actual secrets to uncover. You'll have to do the same puzzle but a dozen times. That's it. You don't feel like a student of this school. There is no immersion. In the house rooms, you can talk to the NPCs once at the start of the game. Then it's over. The books mention secret passages, rooms and shortcuts to move around. There's maybe 1-2 of these in the entire castle. Allowing people to find these secrets would have been great worldbuilding but no, it's just not there. To see such a gorgeous and impressive Hogwarts Castle then realize it's completely irrelavant to the game is a huge letdown. CONTENT PADDING Before you do one thing, you must another thing. Before the another thing, you must be yet another thing. Want to play the main quest? You need to learn a specific spell that will conveniently be useful only for that quest. Now to learn the specific spell, go outside of Hogwarts and complete a checklist of arbitary things. Like use a specific spell on a specific enemy while they do specific actions 10 times. There is no point to this, except artificially increase the length of the game. Every step of progression requires some arbitrary task to be completed. The combat is robust and enjoyable which atleast helped in this specific regard. This game really has a story that lasts about 7-8 hours. This has been artificially lengthened to about 20 hours or so. Let me give you the most egregious example of this. In the Harry Potter universe, you can use a magical spell to unlock locked doors and chests. In the game, you will learn this spell. Then you cast this spell. Then, you enter a lock picking minigame....what? What's the point of casting a magical spell if you still have to do the dirty work. To make this more tedious, you have to find collectible items spread across the map to unlock advanced versions of this spell to unlock higher level locks. And you can only find these collectibles at nighttime. I am baffled by this decision as its nothing more than a tedious collectathon. POORLY IMPLEMENTED 'RPG' To call this an RPG is a stretch. The dialogue tree has virtually no impact. Everyone has this corporate speak as if they are afraid of offending someone. Your choices in most things don't matter. You either agree to things, or agree hesitantly. That's it. There is an arbitrary leveling system. I have no idea what leveling does other than the number keeps going up and maybe some stats do? Idk. Your gear has a leveling system. Some gear will have properties that very slightly enhance a particular spell or item. You can cast dark spells to torture, mind control or murder your enemies infront of your teachers and they won't bat an eye. In HL, there are no consequences. Meaning a majority of the role playing is inconsequential. In a game where you are battling dark forces and evil, it's hilarious when you can do awful things and get away with no reprecussions. Throughout the game you can befriend some students. These quests were really good. I enjoyed listening to their stories and helping them out in their stories. I would have thought they could be recruited as followers similar to Skyrim but no. Once their quests end that's it. This feels like a huge miss. THE GOOD PARTS I realize this review is quite negative so let me write down all the things I really loved about this game. The presentation and visual aesthetic is stunning. I spent hours exploring Hogwarts castle and absorbing its gorgeous interiors. Enabling Raytracing takes the visuals to a whole new level. The design team knocked it out of the park. You unlock a special room in the castle that is fully customizable. This customization system is really well done and I loved having this private corner of the map. The Room of Requirement is the best part of this game for me. Complete with a menagerie of rescue animals. The combat system is robust and allows a ton of variation, spell slots and customization. You get a lot of additonal items with varying effects and some potions. HL's combat isn't exactly difficult, but it is very fun. The side quests are good. The characters are likeable. Their storyline is very interesting. Some missions in the main quest contain fun easter eggs and references to the Harry Potter books directly. The character customization is top notch. Once you find a clothing item, you can destroy or sell it and it will remain as a visual option. You can equip high level gear while toggling its appearance to another item that you like. There's no tradeoff here. And man, the clothing options are ridiculously good. Battling dark monsters and evil wizards looks extra cool when your drip is immaculate. The puzzles are repetitive but very clever and engaging. I enjoyed solving these puzzles the first few times. The game has a merciful amount of fast travel points. Not exactly a good thing but atleast it isn't yet another timesink. SIGNING OFF People really love this game. There's enough to keep a Potterhead engaged in the game. But if you dislike the format of generic open world games, HL will disappoint you too. If you enjoying 100% completion in games HL might interest you because of the sheer amount of things to do here. If you don't care about the Harry Potter universe, you can comfortably skip this game. There are games that do every single thing better. This game is getting a sequel. I'm sure it will be a hit. When I was a little girl, my Oma and my girl cousins and I sat around and talked about our future weddings, and what we would want our dresses to look like, and bouquets, and future husbands, number of kids… I was not super engaged in the conversation, but I was included. But my Oma knew how to draw me in, because we bonded over our mutual love of stuffed animals, something that has followed me into adulthood. She had hand me downs for all the other little girls in the family to give them for their wedding days, jewelry, hand mirrors, other trinkets, shoes or handbags. They shopped in her vast closet all day and I sat in her room and played with the stuffed animals. And she asked me if I wanted a tiny, palm sized stuffed white mouse to put in my bouquet when I got married. It would be about the size of a peony bloom. Lightweight, and the right size not to crush the flowers. I was immediately obsessed. She gave the mouse to my mom for safe keeping. My mom held on to the mouse and I would pull it out and hold it reverently and inspect it and make sure it was clean and knew it was being saved for a special day. Then, in high school, I came out as trans. And suddenly, I wasn’t my parents barely tolerated eldest daughter (because let’s face it, we had problems then too) but their openly disliked trans son. And as soon as they could was their hands of me, they did. And I wasn’t allowed to take Oma’s mouse with me when I left. I didn’t think about it because when I moved out I didn’t have “blushing bride to be” in the forefront of my mind. My parents are not even willing to mail me my birth certificate to help me leave the country safely right now, I’m sure the stuffed mouse is out of the question. I’m still not a a blushing bride, and I’m not going to marry one. My future husband and I want to have a “in memorial” bouquet with the mouse in it on a table at our wedding, next to our “take a kippah, just for today, we promise they don’t bite” basket. I wanted to just replace the mouse, because I know where she bought it originally, but it’s discontinued. They’re available online but I’m having a hard time finding one that isn’t used and worn looking. I just have grief. We don’t even have a date yet. The Japan You See Online Is Not What I Lived
It’s been a week since I got back from Japan. I spent a month there. Still sitting with the whole thing. Visually? Stunning. Clean streets, serene temples, the kind of aesthetic that burns itself into your brain. But something else came back with me too and it’s not the kind of thing you post on Instagram. Before the trip, I didn’t just pack bags. I packed prep. I read blogs, watched hours of travel vlogs, practiced Japanese phrases on repeat. I learned what not to do, what not to wear, when to bow, how to say thank you with the correct level of humility and many other etiquettes. I read stories online about Japan’s issues with racism from BIPOC travelers, and experiences were mixed. Overall, most of what I found painted Japan as a near-utopia where people are endlessly kind, strangers go out of their way to help you, and the technology feels like something from the future. So I cautiously hoped for the best. Apparently, that was too optimistic. First red flag: small town in Nagano. I got seated at a round-table with some locals. A minute later, they asked to be moved. Awkward, but fine. Then three white tourists came in. Suddenly the server was all smiles, walking them through the menu like it was a Michelin tasting. My food? Plunked on the table like a passive-aggressive post-it. No words. No eye contact. Just the sound of a plate meeting wood. And that wasn’t an outlier. At another nearly empty place, an East Asian group got table service. We got handed a buzzer. In Tokyo, at a sushi restaurant, I watched a South Asian group and a Latin American one both get told “takeout only.” Reservation wasn’t the problem as walk-ins after them were seated immediately. Then there was Osaka. We lined up outside an okonomiyaki spot. Staff made eye contact, scanned our faces, and suddenly announced the line was “closed.” No signs. Two hours before the stated closing time. As we were walking down the stairs, other groups strolled right in. Not a word said. Even asking for directions in general was hit or miss. Some people would look through me. Others walked off mid-sentence. At Namba Station, the info desk was closed, so I asked a ticket agent where to exchange my rail pass. He laughed—literally—and said, “So you know this isn’t the right place, then why are you here?” Very helpful energy. When I asked again, he gave me the wrong location. Said it was downstairs. Turns out, it was 10-minute walk away, in a different building altogether. In Tokyo, I saw a server cheerfully point where the tea dispenser was to a japanese couple. He never mentioned it to us and we overheard it. He spoke English too, so that wasn’t it. After the meal, I said “Gochisosama deshita.” He smirked and looked away. It was almost impressive. The pattern was clear by then. Locals walked in to warm greetings. “Irasshaimase!” with all the energy of a welcome home. Us? A faint nod if we were lucky. Leaving was just as awkward. Staff rarely acknowledged us, so we’d turn back, smile, and say “Arigatou gozaimasu” first hoping for even a glance. Most times, nothing. Just silence. At one udon spot, after we’d finished our meal, we took turns using the restroom. The staff stared at us the entire time. Not curious, but a sharp stare which leaves you uncomfortable. The place wasn’t even busy. You’d think we were shoplifting oxygen. If you’re dark-skinned or Black, these things build up fast. None of it is loud. No one yells. No one confronts you. But they don’t have to. The exclusion is quiet, calculated, and cold. You’re not pushed out but you’re made invisible. Polite on the surface, but distant enough to remind you that you’re not really welcome. The racism is passive, but it’s there. You see it in the subtle ways your presence is either ignored or avoided. It’s almost as if your experience depends on the skintone. By the end, I felt Japan isn’t really even trying if you don’t fit the ‘ideal tourist’ image. The tourist floodgates are open, and if your experience sucks, there are a thousand others behind you ready to take your place. Courtesy becomes selective. Hospitality, conditional. Rules, rigid. I got the sense that Japan is a society deeply rooted in pride, with humility mostly reserved for the brochure and for those who fits the mold. It often felt like it’s their way or no way. That mindset bleeds into the national narrative too—Japan continues to highlight its own wartime suffering, but yet there seems to be a remarkable silence, even denial, when it comes to acknowledging its atrocities in places like Nanjing, Taiwan, or its treatment of prisoners of war. In the end, what stayed with me wasn’t the temples or the technology or the scenic views. It was how easily I was made to feel like I didn’t exist, over and over again. I’ve been carrying that weight for weeks now, and I just needed to say it out loud. This side of Japan isn’t what you usually see online, but it’s real. And it happened to me. – – – – – Edit (Follow Ups): During my prep research, I did observe negative experiences shared by Black and fellow POC. However, I also came across positive experiences, such as street interviews on YouTube, top-rated Reddit posts, or blogs that appeared on the first page of Google Search results. In hindsight, I believe they were PR driven. None of us had travelled for the last year and we wanted a change of scenery and all complied with our local COVID rules. We booked an Airbnb and planned some activities; museums, cool parks, local hotspots. We also made it clear that we were each going to be going off on our own to explore if we wanted, and everyone seemed to agree. The issue was on Easter Sunday. We decided to all go for a walk, ended up at a church, and then Grace told us to go inside. I asked to speak to her alone so we sat on a bench nearby. I was in a catholic school when I was younger and had a lot of trauma from it, there were some really horrible barbaric punishments that I cant list here. Grace is religious and I absolutely respect that for her and I see how it enriches her life. When we moved in I explained my experiences to her, and told her that she could have religious items around, host religious events, but that I didnt want to actively participate in any activity or prayer. She agreed and weve never had a problem with it. While we were on the bench, I reminded her of this conversation, as there were signs that there was an Easter mass happening inside, that I felt uncomfortable going in. I told her that she+the guys were absolutely free to attend, and that I was more than happy to go and get an ice cream and that we could meet up afterwards for lunch. She reacted badly, started yelling that I was a hypocrite because 2 years ago I visited La Sagrada Familia and went inside and that I should just suck it up and do the same today because Im ruining our trip. I tried to explain that I can still admire the architecture of a church without wanting to participate, and that when I visited Sagrada I chose a tour slot that wasnt during any service and it was just 300 tourists inside, and that it felt more like visiting a landmark. She kept shouting and the guys came over and sided with me which made her more upset. Grace went into the church and Harry told me that while he agreed with me, religion is a touchy thing to argue about and I probably shouldve backed down. He followed Grace, while Tom came with me to get ice cream. The trip was awkward, and when we got home we avoided each other for a while. I though things would go back to normal after a week or 2 but it didnt. I burned myself and she told me I should get used to the pain because Ill be getting burnt a lot in hell. We invited her to sit and watch a movie with us , it was my turn to pick the movie, but she said that if I don't want to participate in her interests she wont participate in mine and stormed off. I feel really conflicted because Grace (and Harry but not as bad) still think Im the AH here, and Im beginning to think Im a hypocrite because I did go to a church for tourist reasons. Some stuff happened and some of you asked for an update so here goes. After reading all your comments I decided that I dont need that in my life, and I called the landlord. He gave me the OK to not renew for next month, and offered to provide a positive reference, so Im moving out in a few weeks. I told Grace+Harry yesterday, and they didnt react well. Grace kept on about how I disrespected her, and that she was only trying to make my life better. She admitted to directing us to the church on purpose. (How are you guys so right about this stuff?) I told her that it wasnt her place to decide what would make my life better, and that her actions showed me that we arent compatible. Harry didnt say much apart from the fact that moving out was 'a bit drastic'. I reminded him that if she hadn't dragged the original issue out for weeks I probably would have moved on, and that if its drastic to not want to be told Im going to hell while Im minding my own business, then he can call me a drama queen for all I care. A lot of you said there was something going on between the two of them, I didnt ask. I was overwhelmed in the moment and honestly its not my business anymore. At this point Tom had been MIA for a few days, so last night I sent him a message asking when he would be home. He called and said he wouldnt be back for a few more days, so I told him I was moving out. I also said I appreciated him standing up for me on the trip, and that we should find time to get some lunch or something before I go. He was quiet, so I asked if he was okay, and he just started sobbing loudly. I was so shocked that I just listened to him cry for a bit before being like... do you wanna talk about it? He explained that on the night we watched a movie, after I had gone to sleep, he bumped into Grace and told her that it wasn't fair that she was still punishing me for something that wasn't my fault. Apparently he hit her with the WWJD and she went wild. She told him that he had no right to comment on her religion when he living in sin (!!!) and called him a homophobic slur and Tom packed a bag and went straight to his bf's place and hasnt been back since. He said he was happy for me that I was moving out, but that he was dreading going back. He cant stay at his bfs for much longer. I was FURIOUS for him. We decided to find a place together, and that we would help each other pack up and leave and not look back. I cant believe it escalated so much. I cant believe Grace. Weve had conversations about gay rights and she's agreed with us. She knows I'm bi. Shes had dinner with Tom+ his bf before and just... pretended? Its like it all came out of nowhere. This has not been posted to this sub before. This is very much ongoing. Mood Spoiler: confusing and frustrating Original Post: September 12, 2024 My (27F) fiancé (29M) proposed to me a few weeks ago. It caught me completely by surprise, but we’ve been together for 3 years and things have been going great. So I was really excited and said yes! I really liked the ring when I first saw it and my friends and family all think it is stunning. It’s an oval cut with “diamonds” across the band. I asked where he got it and he wouldn’t tell me where, but that he got a great deal on it. I didn’t think anything of it until yesterday we were in bed and I was asked him if it was diamond or moissanite mainly out of curiosity. I don’t have a preference btw. He said he didn’t know and would have to look it up. When I glanced over at his phone, he was in the Temu app. I asked him if he got it from there and he didn’t respond. So I asked again and he responded with something like “does it matter?” and left the room and ended up sleeping on the couch. I spent all night so confused. Today decided to download the app and look up my ring and I found one that looks identical. I found the exact ring and it listed at $38. I am mad. He makes good money (200K/yr) and I feel like he could’ve shelled out some money for a ring better than one on Temu. AITA for telling him I don’t want it? He came home while I was FaceTiming a friend about this. I hung up with her and then talked to him for an hour or so. He apologized for sleeping on the couch and that he needed time to think. He doesn’t see eye to eye with me on my concerns about the ring and says he did research and that it was highly rated. He says if the ring breaks he will replace it (but didn’t say it’d be higher quality). I have people messaging me that the ring could be harmful to my health and that Temu has horrible standards for their jewelry and labor issues so now I really don’t want to wear it. He left and went to his brother’s house. Usually I’d go with him but things are just tense. AITA for telling him I still don’t want it? He’s genuinely a great guy which is making this harder to navigate. he started making me feel really guilty and materialistic today when we talked about this and I can see his point of view but I’m just confused. It feels like Temu is the bottom of the barrel. I’d be happy with a cheap decent quality ring from Etsy or anywhere else. I don’t really care about the price itself it’s more about the quality and feeling like he doesn’t really value me the way I thought he did. He totaled his car early on in our relationship and I happily drove him to his work every morning on the way to my work when he didn’t have a car. When his mom got sick and went on hospice, I immediately canceled all of my travel plans and holiday plans with my family and sat with him visiting her every day for months. I helped with funeral arrangements. I helped plan his brother’s wedding. I even loaned him money for a new car once he started his new job (he did pay me back btw). He moved in with me recently and most everything in the home is mine that I paid for prior to the relationship (furniture, etc). I have paid for so many plane tickets for our travels, concert tickets, etc. that I’ve never asked him to pay back and never will. That’s what a relationship is. I genuinely care for him. He has done similar gestures for me and is more than willing to spend money on dates. Believe it or not I’m not this greedy woman sitting here excited to get his money. I have my own. Have they ever been ring shopping: We never went ring shopping. The proposal was a surprise to me. We’d casually discussed getting married in the future for the past year or so but he never asked my taste in rings so I was kinda thinking that’d happen before the engagement. I actually like the style of the ring but now that I know it’s from Temu I can’t look at it the same way. He texted to let me know he plans at staying at his brother’s for the weekend and is taking Friday off. You think I’m a cheapskate? A liar? You obviously think really poorly of me”… but STILL he never gave me a reason. So I asked why he was deflecting every question to victimize himself and to avoid my questions. He tried to leave AGAIN. So I tried deescalating and told him I see where he’s coming from but I need to know if he still loves me. He was immediately apologetic and still wants to get married. He said I can just pick my ring out and buy it with my own money. He said he’s sick of talking about this and it’s “water under the bridge” now. He’s acting like his normal self again since this convo. I hear him out there skipping around and humming to himself all happily and it’s actually pissing me off. Maid of Honor kicked out of wedding on wedding day. Things escalate.

That is u/MizzGidget who posted to r/weddingshaming and r/CharlotteDobreYouTube Content warning: Racism Original Post May 31st, 2024, crosspost on CharlotteDobre same day I tried to warn the Bride that her bridesmaids dresses wouldn't work for me but she insisted and now she's pissed because I look like the Bride. I'm supposed to be the MOH in tonight for a wedding. My husband in the best man and we've been friends with this couple for a long time. The problem is now I'm being kicked out for being black and my husband wants to step down as best man because of it and it's causing a whole thing. To clarify because it's important the bride is NOT RACIST in any way she's just kinda dumb for refusing to listen. My skin color is the issue but not because she has a problem with it over all but just because she didn't realize that my skin would make a dress look different on me than on others. She has had this vision for her wedding forever apparently. Her bridesmaids dresses are nearly identical to her wedding dress in style except a different color and on the bridesmaids dresses the detailing stops at the waist and they are not laced up in the back. My dress as MOH is an exact carbon copy of hers just in the other color. Here's where it gets to be a mess. She picked this color the company calls morning grey for her bridesmaids dresses. Morning grey for anyone wondering is like a soft pastel grey that's about a shade of of white. On the other bridesmaids the dress absolutely looks grey. A very soft very ethereal grey but a grey none the less. All the other bridesmaids are also white. I'm not. I'm not only black but as I've been to the beach for another wedding this year I'm darker than I normally am. Against my skin the dress undeniably looks white. Like the only way you can tell mine is actually gray is if I'm standing directly next to the bride and the dresses are side by side then you can see mine is slightly grey and hers isn't. Now the bride ordered all of the dresses and picked the color herself. I tried to tell her she should order mine in a darker shade of grey because I've been down this road before where I've been accused of wearing white at a wedding because a dress I wore looked white in the sunlight even though it wasn't. She insisted that she had her cousin try it on and the color was perfect and you could easily tell it was grey. I tried to explain to her that her cousin is the color of printer paper and that it would look different on me but she was unwilling to have her "vision" modified. Now she's pissed at me because even though it's clear hanging with the other dresses mine is the same color as the other bridesmaids. She has decided the only option is to kick me out of the wedding so I don't upstage her. However she wants me to give my dress to one of the other bridesmaids which I said I was fine with as soon as she reimbursed me the money for it. (350$ compared to the rest of the bridesmaids who paid about 125) But then one of the bridesmaids promptly pointed out non of them could even wear my dress. I'm not huge, but I am incredibly top-heavy. I wear a 34H bra. Which is part of why my dress was so much more expensive than the other bridesmaids, the other part being the extra detailing. So none of the other bridesmaids would be able to keep my dress up even if the lacing was pulled as tight as it would go. So now she's decided I have ruined her perfect wedding. Screamed at me and told me that not only am I not in the wedding but she doesn't even want me to attend as a guest. Which pissed off my husband a) because she was warned, I even sent her photos of a dress I wore that was almost the same color to a different wedding, and b) because he doesn't want to attend a wedding we traveled for without me and he thinks its bullshit since she insisted on the dress color. Comments: In general, commenters are pretty sure the bride's racist, an idiot, a bridezilla, or some combination of the three. Comment 1: Nta. You did nothing wrong. And I would fully support your husband stepping out as well. Neither of you are ruining the wedding. The bride did that all on her own. What an absolute....you never mind. Also you say she isn't racist but this comes across as someone who might just be a little. Like someone who screams I don't see colour of who says 'I can't be racist because I have friends of colour'. Well lady, your behaviour tells is otherwise. And you, op, deserve so much better than this. Comment 2: OP went out of her way to say her (maybe former) friend isn’t racist, but this sounds pretty racist to me. She went from MOH to being screamed at and uninvited to the wedding and is being replaced by someone with lighter skin who doesn’t compromise the bride’s aesthetic. Comment 3: Hahahah describing the cousins skin tone as printer paper is fucking funny. Thank you for that�� Why can’t she have you in a different colored dress, some brides do that for their MOH’s. Just dye it or some shit. That’s an extreme overreaction on her part, especially since you warned her. You’re clearly close since you’re her MOH so you’d think she’d trust what you look like in a certain color but bridezilla clearly lost her marbles. I’m thinking you dodged a bullet on this one and hubby will too once he dips but there has to be other solutions then straight kickin you out. If you really want to stay in it ask her if you can find someone to dye the dress if she’s amendable to you have a different shade. UPDATE (same day): for everyone who is asking what happened. Soooooo. after I posted things got ugly and the groom called everything off. I initially offered to dye the dress since I was the only person not getting my hair done (my hair has been damaged more than once by stylists who don't know how to handle the texture so I am very limited in who I will let do it and Instead usually do it myself). The groom thought this was a great idea and even offered to pay for the stuff needed to dye it and let me use his parents place to do it. While he went to go talk to his parents though my now ex nixed that because then "I would stand out even more" So I asked what she meant by stand out even more and a whole lot of truth came out. Apparently she initially hadn't wanted me in the wedding at all, but her ex fiance is one of my oldest and best friends and my husband was (note the past tense) one of hers. That's why we introduced them to each other in the first place because we thought they would hit it off and they did. Anyway, because my husband was the closest thing she has to a sibling she really wanted him to be the "man of honor" at their wedding and initially ex groom said that was fine and he would just have me as a best woman so things would look balanced and two men didn't have to walk down the aisle or whatever. She really didn't like that so they decided to switch us up no big deal. Except, apparently it was because I'm the only person of color in the whole wedding party and one of very few who will be at the wedding at all and I'm going to stand out in every single picture. I asked her what about the grooms parents. (The groom is white but he's adopted by a black couple and is quite close to both his biological and adoptive parents but if you ask who his parents are he always says the people who raised him) Her theory was that his biological parents would be in the pictures not his adoptive parents. Well when the groom came back and heard this he flipped out and then she said the dumbest thing she could have said. Apparently "it's not his fault he had no control over who adopted him and the pictures should just be "real family"" Well at that point the groom had heard enough and told her that they were his real family and he couldn't believe she would say that. She was not the person he thought she was and he was not marrying her. She gets pissed and tells him he's being ridiculous but his parents can be in some of the photos and they will take some without. He tells her again that he is in no way shape manner or form marrying her after what he heard and in fact he wants nothing to do with her. She gets upset and says well she's at least going to go have fun at the reception. He reminds her that he and his parents paid for everything including the reception and she is not welcome and he will be informing the security of that fact. The bride runs off and tells her parents what he's saying and doing so they come out guns blazing and all to confront him but apparently she didn't give them all the facts because when he laid it out for them they were appalled. Her father literally tore her a new one talking about how she was not raised that way and he couldn't believe this was the person she had become. They apologized to the groom. Offered to pay for half of the wedding and they left with their daughter. So we spent the afternoon with the groom, several of the bridesmaids and all of the groomsmen who were all equally shocked by her behavior I'd say we were consoling the groom but we weren't he was too busy ranting about dodging a bullet. Last night we went to the reception, partied until like 3 AM and had a great time. As for the dress I have an event later this summer and I'm going to dye the dress and wear it for that. TLDR : Turns out it was deliberate, the bride was racist and wanted no black people in her photos including the groom's adoptive parents. They did not get married, we had a blast at the reception, and I'm dying and wearing the dress for a different event. Comments were sympathetic. Comment: I’m sorry that you all had to find out that she was a horrible person but thank goodness it was discovered before the wedding and before kids. The ex must be breathing a sigh of relief but how is your husband doing? 1979 G20 Chevy Van my dad gifted to me because he overheard me talking about wanting to travel across the country in a van with my girlfriend. Only 60k miles, sat in a garage with a cover on it the past 30 years. Absolutely nothing wrong with it mechanically or aesthetically.
