Flight essentials I'll definitely never skip for a long haul with my family.
Just got back from a 10 day trip with my parents and I made sure to bring along some solid gear (my department, after all). Honestly, those items made our trip so much easier. Neck pillows (honestly essential for any long flight) AirPods (noise cancellation made the airport + flight much easier) Snacks (airport food is fine but expensive and limited during layovers) Hoodie / light jacket (planes + airports get cold fast, especially overnight layovers) Offline downloads (Netflix, Spotify, maps saved before boarding) Wet wipes + hand sanitizer (small but used more than expected) Power bank (My P63 was common power source for all of us. Between boarding passes, photos and calls, it ended up being in constant rotation.) One thing I realized from frequent travelling is how often we leave things behind while packing just to avoid extra weight, only to regret it later at the airport. Did I miss on any other essential? What would you suggest adding to the list for family travel? submitted by /u/JayRexSy to r/traveladvice [link] [comments]

Solo travelers - what’s your actually essential item that most people forget?
Hey everyone, I’ve been solo traveling for a little over 3 years now, and I keep running into the same situation whenever I try to get friends into it: They overpack the wrong stuff… and completely miss the things you actually end up needing. So I started putting together a super simple “essentials only” list based on my own trips. Not luxury, not overthinking, just stuff I’ve genuinely used over and over again: microfiber towel (light + dries fast, never had an issue with it) power bank (this one is non-negotiable at this point) sunglasses (didn’t think much of it at first, but yeah… necessary) small compressible daypack (beach/hikes/city exploring) one solid pair of comfortable shoes (this matters more than anything tbh) a small card game / deck (it weirdly breaks the ice with strangers in hostels) And that’s basically it. I’m trying to keep this list minimal, but I have a feeling I’m still missing some of those “you don’t realize it until you need it” items. Like the stuff experienced solo travelers always carry but beginners never think about. What’s that one item you ALWAYS pack that most people forget? submitted by /u/yourwishbag to r/SmartTravelHacks [link] [comments]

Remember Kids: Travel Routers are Essential for Free Premium Hotel Wifi
First time getting a chance to use my work router in a hotel and the difference is insane! Remember to always bring a router and ethernet cord with you! First image: wireless via captive portal Second image: hardwired directly to my computer Third image: wireless via router (with my free vpn on it's a bit less, ~250mbps) EDIT: To add more context/steps that I took: - The wireless via router test was with the router hardwired to the ethernet jack in the wall - In hindsight, the wireless via captive portal results are a little skewed because I now think what I unplugged was the WAP. In the previous test, before trying hardwired, it was ~25mps (still way less than hardwired or via personal router) - There are many places in a hotel room to look for ethernet ports, I've seen them next to the beds, behind tvs, at the desk, behind the table/counter underneath the tv. - In this case, it was just barely behind the counter below the tv on the edge. There was a cable plugged into it going to what I assume was a WAP (wireless access point) behind the tv. From the WAP, there were 5 ports on it. On port 1, there was an ethernet cable going to the cable box (?) for the tv but it had tamper proof connectors on either end. I tried the other 4 ports on the WAP directly to the computer and one of them came back as connected but all of them refused to connect to the internet (I also tried doing the captive portal wirelessly first in case the WAP was still expecting only registered MAC addresses on hardwired ports). Because of the tamper proof connector on Port 1, I suspect they disabled the other ports on the WAP (not sure if they have one in each room/how other rooms' tvs were connected). Ultimately I went with temporarily unplugging at the wall (now that i'm thinking the device was a WAP for the floor, I might've accidentally affected the wifi for the other rooms but it was late at night and I was only there for a night) and plugging it back in in the morning. With it unplugged, a wireless connection showed the speed I posted. My room was in the center of the hallway. EDIT 2: The router was a GL.iNet Slate AX (GL-AXT1800) submitted by /u/striker1800 to r/HomeNetworking [link] [comments]

What are your travel essentials you ALWAYS pack for international flights?
I’m planning my next international trip and want to pack smarter, not harder. What are the essential gadgets or items you always take with you on flights to other countries? Things that make long-haul flights bearable, help with jet lag, keep you powered up, or solve random travel problems. Mine so far are obvious: • Noise-cancelling headphones • Multitool (if can be taken) • Travel adapter with USB-C ports What about you? What are your top travel essentials?
I have been traveling over the past two decades, and I have started to narrow down what I bring with me when I travel, which makes traveling much easier and more enjoyable (I grew tired of arriving back home and finding items I carried abroad that I never used). I am curious to know if other travelers have discovered items that have become essential to their travel experiences. One item that's essential to me is my travel power/surge adapter, which accompanies me everywhere I travel. Secondly, I guess it would be some of my quick-dry clothing. submitted by /u/globalinvestors to r/traveladvice [link] [comments]
