I’ve had 3 UTIs in 5 months and they’re all from sex. I can’t get enough of the guy I’m seeing. We had sex about 8-10 times from Friday evening to Sunday morning. I drank water before and after each round. I changed my underwear about 3-4 times and showered as well. I also gave myself a bird bath after sex. I peed about 15-20 minutes after. He’s also clean. Nails are trimmed and clean under. He’s very clean down there as well. We don’t do oral because we both don’t like it. I feel so gross and embarrassed. Sex with him is so amazing. This sucks. I just rescued this baby kitten from the side of the road a couple of days ago. He’s been able to use the litter robot without hesitation or assistance. I had to give him a quick bath to rid of some fleas but he ran straight to the litter box after and pooed then left. But then he started crying and ran to the litterbox. Wouldnt stop crying until I got there and this is how he was looking. Any help pleaseeee Edit: I warming him up after the bath guys but I let him go to the potty because I wanted to make sure he wouldnt have an accident! Also he has his own little litterbox and he only uses the litter robot while I am there watching. I just wanted him to get used to it and not scared of it for when he’s older. I’ve been trying to desensitize him to things. Thank you guys for the advice and help. I definitely will be taking him to the vet to get him checked out. Hey! I wanted to share my story here because this is where I came when I was struggling with my chronic UTIs for so long with no cure. I struggled with the issue of UTI symptoms every single time after sex. I had (mostly) negative urine cultures even during peak symptoms, but positive for ketones or nitrites occasionally. These symptoms randomly appeared out of the blue one day last summer and were left unsolved for over 8 months! I was on chronic Macrobid that I took every time after sex, which sort of worked for me, but I didn’t want to be on antibiotics long term. I took d-mannose, cranberry pills, and some other supplement to help break down biofilm, peed right after sex and showered, none of which solved the issue for me. I finally went to my doctor and requested for a vaginal swab, tested for things like BV, yeast, STDs, mycoplasma, ureaplasma, and more. Turns out I had chronic untreated bacterial vaginosis along with an over growth of mycoplasma and ureaplasma. I took a 1 week course of metronidazole for the BV and a 1 week course of doxycycline for the ureaplasma and mycoplasma, then my symptoms cleared and never came back! Recently found out there is actually no solid wide-scale evidence to suggest that peeing after sex prevents UTI’s. I have also seen some past posts on reddit where people act as if it’s 100% because it’s simply a wives tale but I disagree. The fact that there’s no solid evidence on the topic despite so many FAB’s reporting UTI’s when they don’t pee after sex is because there has been no large scope academic studies done on the topic and that is a symptom of injustices in female health. Gynaecologists still recommend peeing within 15-30 minutes after sex, if it truly didn’t do anything because there had been several large scale studies to suggest it’s useless then they wouldn’t be recommending the practice. Yes, there is currently no evidence to suggest it helps to prevent UTI’s but it doesn’t hurt to do it and if you need to pee or you find it helpful to after intercourse – JUST DO IT! Myself and almost every person with a vulva I’ve talked to has found that when not peeing after sex (especially if typically not peeing after sex) they get a UTI. If your experience is different that’s totally okay and valid – no female body (or any body in general) is the same but to preach that “oh there’s no evidence it actually does anything so stop saying it does“ ignores the experiences of so many people and fails to consider that lack of consistent evidence is because the health industry decided that doing a large methodologically-sound study on the topic isn’t important. I know it’s hypocritical to say this but, bringing up this discussion to invalidate the advice given by people with female anatomy is useless and ignores the structural inequalities that cause there to be no conclusive evidence. Sorry for the rant! I was putting off getting treatment thinking I could wait until my appointment even though my antibiotics weren’t doing anything to the infection. Well I just spent the night in the ER with a systemic infection, showing up so delirious that I could barely even remember my date of birth or what year it was, couldn’t stand, had a heart rate spiking at around 140 BPM, low blood pressure, high cortisol, nausea, low fever, and I was convinced I was going to pass out on the drive there. I’m now on 5 different antibiotics. Everyone who told me to go the ER was correct and I could’ve died from what was previously just a UTI. 😓 Sounds rich coming from me after I put off treatment before, but trust your gut if you think something’s wrong. I’ve gotten many a UTI in my time, but the recent two have progressed to my kidneys incredibly quickly, like i got symptoms on a Friday, made an appointment for Monday and by then was already in my kidneys and making me quite sick. This recent one had me vomiting and in 8/10 pain. Had to go on cephalexin/Keflex, 500mg 4x a day for 7 days. That antibiotic genuinely made me insane, like not to fear monger because I am so not anti-pharm, but it made me fucking insane, like 10/10 panic attacks that lasted for 5+ hours, didn’t eat anything but saltines and broth for two weeks, I had to take two weeks off work, etc. Like genuinely hell. All that to say I can never ever ever get another UTI. Ever again. I am 25f, sexually active with one male partner. Monogamous relationship. He always washes thoroughly before intercourse, we very rarely use toys and always use non-latex condoms (Skyn brand). Obviously i always pee after sex, and usually have a shower or quick wash immediately afterwards too. I gotta say, I don’t always use unscented soap to clean my vulva, I’ve kind of just been using whatever bar of soap is in the shower. Now I am switching to cerave gentle face wash lol. I use a bidet, I’ve heard mixed reviews on whether they cause or prevent UTIs but open to whatever lol. I also don’t drink enough water, I really try but it makes me nauseous lol. But I am going to try to do better. I started taking a cranberry supplement as well. I forget the concentration but I can find out if it’s important. For context: This is Toad, he’s a one year old boy and pretty much my entire world. The past few weeks since he got fixed he’s been acting funny, peeing on everything for seemingly no reason. The story begins here, a few days ago he peed on a gray plastic bag (that was next to his litter box as preparation for its next cleaning). I didn’t know what to do other than pick it up and throw it out, as I was doing that, a few drops landed on his pillow, they were a dark pink color. My brain immediately went to “UTI! That’s why he’s been peeing on everything!” I’ll admit I panicked. I started searching for vets in my area, they were all closed. I expanded my search to a 20 mile radius, made some calls, ultimately ended with me getting an appointment 3 days out at a Petco 30 minutes away. I explain what’s going on to the vet, they take him back for an ultrasound and to extract a urine sample. A bit later they bring him back and I’m told that everything looks fine internally, his urine visibly looked fine as well, but the culprit was a flea that had made its way inside of him and had been feeding on his penis. That’s where the blood had been coming from. They removed it of course, but my god, that was an expensive flea. Moral of the story is,, sometimes it’s not a UTI. Sometimes it’s a flea biting your cats dick paired with behavioral issues. Never in a million years could I have predicted this outcome. Hi Everyone, I’ve been following this community for a while, and have spent so many hours reading your stories, deep diving on the internet to learn about different treatments, and hoping that one day I’d be able to share my own UTI healing story. Thank you for sharing, because it's honestly what gave me hope to keep researching, advocating and demanding answers from my doctors. Especially when it felt like I was in this never ending hell. I’m SO happy to finally say that after nine months of dealing with a chronic UTI, I’m finally fully healed! There is one treatment I especially want to mention because it was what helped me turn a corner with my healing journey, and I had not seen it mentioned anywher, until an amazing doctor told me about it. It’s a treatment called iAluRil, which is a bladder instillation therapy that helps repair the bladder lining. THIS IS WHAT BLOWS MY MIND: Until I found this amazing OBGYN, about 6 months into my CUTI, not a single doctor mentioned that the reason I was in so much pain and had crazy UTI symptoms, even though I was testing negative for infection, was because my bladder and urethra were severely damaged from previous infections. For a lot of people, the pain is actually from inflammation and damage to the bladder lining, and then the PH of our urine can make it feel even more uncomfortable. It finally explained why my tests kept coming back negative but the symptoms never stopped. It also made sense of why I kept getting new infections so easily. It's so effing simple, but no one is talking about it, and it's so frustrating that so many doctors are uneducated about this!!! Once I started using iAluRil and started taking supplements to help with my urine PH, the symptoms slowly faded. It took about 90 days to fully heal. As someone who suffers from chronic UTI’s - I feel super overwhelmed and in shock that today someone I know passed away from UTI complications. He essentially said “i get them all the time” and didn’t go to the doctor. By the next day he could no longer walk - and had to call an ambulance. In the ambulance, he suffered a heart attack and had 6 strokes. After an MRI they discovered internal bleeding and kidney failure. He was taken off of life support today. I’m 27 and he’s only a few years older than me and I just can’t believe that something i’ve suffered from since 5th grade can actually be fatal and i’m witnessing it first hand. PLEASE get your symptoms checked out if you think you have a UTI or have lower back pain! especially as women i know a lot of our symptoms get pushed to the side but please advocate for yourself if you think something is wrong! I get UTI's very often, so over time I have found a perfect solution to helping ease the pain at home. It is important to note that, if showing symptoms, you should definitely get checked out by a doctor. This is not a cure for UTI's, just a way to relieve pain. I promise, the meds they give you work like a charm and give you immediate relief. Do it if you can! First off, I recommend buying D-Mannose, which is a cranberry tablet. They're on Amazon, and they're super worth it. It is best to work them into your daily vitamin intake. If you don't wanna do that, you can take 2 every 6 hours when you start feeling your UTI coming. It will really help. Next, this is an absolute lifesaver. PLEASE TRY THIS. Take 1 extra strength Advil and 1 extra strength Tylenol. I SWEAR by this for any pain (cramps, headaches, etc.) Especially if you're having troubles sleeping due to UTI pain. LIFESAVER. trust me. This one is obvious, but important. Drink a fk ton of water. Like, chug it. You need to flush it all out. If you have trouble chugging water, add an electrolyte water flavourer to it. Just make sure the flavourer isnt too acidic. Speaking of which, avoid acidic drinks like they're the plague. Ive found that, when I drink anything acidic (like orange juice) with a UTI, my pain is 100% worse. Trust me on this. Stick to non acidics like tea, all milks (coconut, oat, dairy), some juices. Lastly, try to rest. Call out of work. Stay home from school. I promise, nothing sucks more than having to sit or stand constantly without the ability to go to the bathroom whenever you need. Having to hold in your pee is only going to make it worse. First of all, I don't think there's anything I haven't tried: drinking plenty of water keeping my feet warm loose clothing (including no thongs) pre and post contact hygiene (both me and my partner) urinating right after sex not holding on when I have to pee making sure I empty my bladder when I urinate showering after no 2 preventing constipation using only ph balanced hygiene products taking probiotics cranberry tea d-mannose products different URI-starting products combination of different products for as long as 6 months though they were expensive as hell kidney check ups bladder check ups partner check ups Strovac (vaccine) autovaccines (vaccine made from my own specific bacteria at a National Institute of Research & Development for Microbiology & Immunology) buying all new panties (cotton only) and towels and making sure I wash them at high enough temperature - after the antibiotic treatment there was a time when tests said no urinary infection so I won't go into the long lists of what I tried but I'll mention surgeries, laser treatments, and injections. etc. ​ Living with recurrent UTIs and so much pain affected my life on so many levels including my job, the way I socialized.. I was very motivated to get rid of the pain. So believe me when I say, I tried it all. And it all failed me. ​ Ok, so you want to know what finally worked and my advice on how to get rid of the UTIs forever? Go to the doctor when pain is at it's worst, ask for a urine culture & sensitivity test. Take two sensitivity tests at different labs if you want to be sure about the result. I can't stress how important it is to know what antibiotics you are resistant to (and unfortunately how some labs don't do their job too well). And it's important to prep the sample in a morning when the pain is at it's worst, because that's when the bacteria is most likely to show up. Go to a gynecologist for the treatment. An urologist usually just prescribes the substance for the UTI but the gynecologist will give you something to prevent/treat candida also. This step is especially important if you had other antibiotic treatments in the past. Also make sure the doctor prescribes something you are not resistant to. They're human, they make mistakes. Take your antibiotics from start to end as per your doctor's instructions. Double check to make sure when you should take them. Before meals, after meals, one or two hours after meals? How much time between the antibiotic and the probiotic? Many substances have different optimal times of administration. Of course look out for allergy signs. If the pain stops 1-2 days after starting the antibiotics that's a very good sign, but don't make the common mistake to stop taking them. That's how most people become resistant to antibiotics. Ok, and now here comes the part you're not going to like at all. Since day 1 of antibiotics also STOP eating products that contain sugar or white flour and stop drinking alcohol. If you want that to be the last day of UTI pain, stop eating and drinking those things. It's either them and pain, or living without them but free of pain. Once the treatment is over, you'll be UTI pain free as long as you can be abstinent from them. But consume them, and you'll get the infection again. ​ I know it's difficult to avoid processed foods and alcohol basically, in a world where they are marketed everywhere, but it is possible. There's an abundance of delicious clean food out there that you can have, there are many support groups that you can join to get help in succeeding with this, and just like any new skill, you'll get better at it in time and find it easier and easier to do. And you want to know the best part? All that I listed above that I tried and did not work? Doesn't even matter once you get rid of the infection and stop consuming any of the things that feed the bacteria. Many things from the list above became habits for me but I can skip them and I am amazed how I don't get the pain anymore. So there you have it, that's how I got rid of the recurring UTIs after 20 years of having them (150 days now without pain and going strong - never happened before in my life).
