Hi @Calibeach. I went to Costco yesterday to try the new strawberry sundae. To my surprise, our Costco doesn't have it. Their current featured sundae is a churro sundae. It has vanilla ice cream, salted caramel sauce and churro pieces. As good as it looked, I had a hankering up for the strawberry one. Maybe our Costco will feature it soon. I'll keep looking.

…that I have taken a photo of. One of the Thanksgiving traditions in my family is that my uncle makes an ice cream cake shaped like a turkey as part of our dessert. Two years ago, he passed that responsibility over to me. The first three turkey cakes are his, and the last two are mine. Hello everyone. I have experimented slot with the vanilla ice-cream and I found out the reason it sucks to do it properly (with properly I mean vanilla bean) I wanted to do this post because I saw a lot of people struggling with the vanilla flavour and now I know the real reason. When you use vanilla bean or vanilla extract or vanilla paste, all you do is add the vanilla aroma inside maybe a milk base. This aroma is complex and made by differents compounds all supported by the vanilline aroma. If this is missing you miss the flavour, if you miss the others, you miss complexity and the "real" aroma. So the problem with ice cream vanilla and for the worst the one done with the ninja is that the natural vanilline just dies in the cold. I'm another words, in the cold it gets trapped inside the fat matrice and cannot release it's flavour in the mouth. Is present but masked.(If you try and warm it again you will instantly retrieve it) The only way to make it pop is to add another type of vanilline aroma. You keep the natural one for the background aroma and add vanilline extract or better the etyl-vanilline. This two compound are a "distilled" version of vanilline that is chemically different than the natural one. They are far less subject to the same fate and so they will still be present when the temperature goes down. If you already have on ready, try adding a 0.1g of vanilline powder on top of the ice cream and tell me what it change (i tried and was amazed after a lot of trial and errors) For those reasons vanilla ice cream is fake. No natural way possible to make it real. I tried better and worse vanilla beans, tried 2x 3x 4x the quantity, tried 48h infusions, blending the beans, roasting them but nothing works. So if you find someone saying natural vanilla ice cream ask him because for what I can tell, there is no such natural ice cream vanilla. I hope it will help someone with a girlfriend that wants a vanilla ice cream as me :) Edit: seems like people are getting good results with the alcohol infused vanilla beans. So I'm working at this summer camp and it's ice cream day. You ever scoop 1500 scoops of ice cream without stopping? It's exhausting and I'm ready to be done with my day when the last person comes to get ice cream. Let's call her Karen. "Does this ice cream have peanuts? I'm very allergic and can't have peanuts near me." She says. Okay sure, peanut allergies can be serious so I understand her caution. Only thing is, "It's vanilla ice cream." Idk how to take that because it's ridiculous, so I go back in the kitchen to ask the head chef, "Hey Chef, is there peanuts in the vanilla ice cream?" "No, it's vanilla ice cream and there's no peanuts out as toppings." Chef says. I return and tell Karen what Chef told me. That apparently is not good enough for her. "Well I need you to go check the box and see if there's peanuts in the ingredients." She demands. I sigh and wander back down the stairs too the walk in cooler to check. I even thought to bring it back with me in case she doesn't believe me. "There's no peanuts in the ingredients" I say, pointing them out to her. She reads them, then looks at me and says, "well they might have peanuts in the factory this was made. You need to check." I just stare at her, dumbfounded. "And how exactly am I supposed to do that?" I responded perhaps a little snarky, I was getting tired of her nonsense. She gets angry and goes off about how I'm treating her poorly and she should be given ice cream like everyone else and she's gonna complain to management about my poor service. Perfect vanilla base I’ve had my ninja creami for about a week now and I’ve played with different recipes. Mainly ice creams and sorbets. I have the creami deluxe. Shout out to bjs for the deal. It came with three pint containers. I find vanilla ice cream to be the most enjoyable but also one of the more difficult recipes. I don’t use any protein or pudding powder although I’m sure you can. I add strawberries and make strawberries and cream which I love and I mix in some shortbread cookies. Yum. Regardless of your container deluxe or regular I am going to describe how I make it. based on container fill regardless of deluxe or regular. ) Ingredients - sweetened condensed milk - whole milk - half and half - vanilla beans / vanilla extract Directions Fill the container a quarter of the way with sweetened condensed milk Fill the container to 75% with whole milk. Fill the container to freeze line with the remaining 25% being half and half. Add 1/2 tea spoon of vanilla beans or vanilla extract. Mix together really well with spoon or blender. Freeze overnight. The deets: sugar cone (perfect crunch) with: —1 mini scoop of chocolate coconut caramel (“Chocolate, creamy coconut milk, and homemade coconut caramel.”) Tasty, but needs mix-ins. Very smoothhhhhhhhhh and amazing texture. 7/10 —1 mini scoop of mocha mud pie (“Coffee-infused ice cream with chunks of brownies, chocolate stracciatella, and a ribbon of salted caramel.”) I would never be able to tell this flavor is vegan. 11/10. In a nutshell: If you value texture most, you’ll love the feel of this ice cream. If you value taste the most, you might be underwhelmed. It’s not the best vanilla ice cream in terms of flavor. It’s pretty basic vanilla. But the texture is borderline cold stone texture. It’s creamy, thick, sweet enough but not overly sweet. Very satisfying overall.
