Partner and I finally got on the ladder beginning of 2025. The kitchen is outdated and in need of a full reno, but we're not going to be able to afford that any time soon, if ever. Current flooring are some vinyl tiles, and I want to cover them up with a roll of sheet vinyl. I am hoping to do something pretty inexpensive to fix up my bathroom. I’m already planning on painting and getting a new mirror, but I’ve been playing around with the idea of changing the floors. Would I be able to do something like LVT directly over this vinyl sheet? Or would it be better to remove that vinyl sheet first? This is at the campus I work at. It's commercial grade sheet vinyl flooring I believe for a gross anatomy lab. It's about 2 years old. I clean this building and the area pictured constantly looks like this , I've taken a close up. It'll look worse ie darker after heavy traffic . I run our floor machine and have thrown every chemical at it. I've used a magic eraser, at best we can lighten it. But what's causing it because the lab director is never happy with how it looks? Hi! I just love seeing all of your colorful homes and wish we had vibrant color back in design in our sad, greige world. 🧡💛💚 I need to replace our kitchen floor, and I am hunting for a manufacturer of sheet vinyl that still makes colorful vinyl. I am open to Unused old stock of vintage sheet vinyl too, but have not found anything large enough to work. I want COLOR!!! I would love oranges, yellows etc but am open to anything (blues, greens etc), but NOT white, grey, beige sadness. What passes for “color” of many manufacturers these days is a pale blue that is actually grey. :( The amount of stores I have gone I where the sales person tries to manspain to me that “white/grey matches everything” and “I will regret using a bright color”….. or they just keep pushing that damn LVT that looks like wood….. I also have very large dogs with large nails. A nice sheet vinyl, especially the older kind, doesn’t have tiny holes from the pressure of the dog nails. I'm trying to decide between vinyl flooring planks and solid oak flooring for a renovation, and I'm curious what people have experienced long-term. Vinyl seems to be the default recommendation these days because of durability and moisture resistance, especially for living rooms and kitchens. But solid oak obviously has the classic look. For anyone who has lived with either for a few years, which one actually holds up better with daily wear? Also curious if anyone has tried kitchen vinyl sheet flooring in high-traffic areas and how it compares. The previous subfloor was flat, smooth and a dark uniform colour, the edges were still concrete though. I didn’t see what was used but the ground has been sanded down and now is uneven in areas with obvious dips. Why would this be done to lay a vinyl sheet? Their length is 25mm, the plywood will be 10mm thick half the room and 20mm in the other half and floor planks are 20mm thick. Reason for different thickness because the toilet is on a 20mm thick piece of plywood. I'm assuming because the waste pipe was too high and since it's cast iron it's easier to elevate the toilet. So my logic was to use 10mm thick plywood across the whole floor then the whole section under the bog double up and add another strip of 10mm plywood making it 20mm. Long story short - last camping trip had a ton of rain and storms, canvas tent was filthy, so had to clean it off really well before storing. While I had it laid out to dry in my living room, I had company come over so had to quickly move it. It was nearly dry so balled it up and moved it to my basement, didn’t realize I sat it on top of some skateboard pads I have. (google Rhip Clips interested). The foam on the pads had some sort of reaction with the vinyl and got adhered to it. The good news - the vinyl doesn’t seem damaged or affected. And it’s not on the canvas part of my tent at all, only on the floor, the side that makes contact with the ground. The bad news - I have no idea how to get this off, and I’m worried about rolling the tent up and it “spreading” to other parts in comes into contact with. It’s about 3 footprints in size and material. I tried gently scraping and it really just moved the stuff around, couldn’t get it off. Not sure if any chemicals are safe for the vinyl. I called Kodiak and they suggested soap and water - this made the foam matte finished but didn’t do anything else. My only idea as this point is to get some vinyl repair sheets and put them over the top of it, so I can at least fold my tent up again. Let me preface this by saying that I come from nothing. I come from my grandparents having to bring us groceries to ensure we had enough to eat when we were kids. There is nothing wrong with coming from nothing. There’s also nothing wrong with having nothing. But let me tell you something: that house is only opulent if you’ve never seen an opulent house before. As an adult I have been in many opulent homes. Regardless of size they are immaculately designed and appointed, everything has been thought through. From the kitchen storage to the bedroom closets, from the lighting to the plumbing, someone has been paid to think out every last detail, and spare no cost. THAT HOUSE … that house is not opulent. It’s big. It has a lot of land. I wouldn’t even go so far as to call it well appointed. I also wouldn’t pay $2.8 million for it. Underneath the sheet vinyl floors that run throughout are likely very damaged floors. Damaged from what? Who knows? That kitchen is terribly laid out and I’m not sure what those raised squares/diamond pop-outs are on the bar, but they serve no purpose. The bathrooms haven’t been updated in 20-25 years and the fireplaces don’t exactly scream “there’s a logical reason why I exist.” What they have is an older McMansion. One that needs to be updated. One that likely has major issues that need to be addressed. But is it opulent? Hello! We need new flooring for a hallway and bedroom. We have three kids and they all have severe special needs. They are very hard on everything in the home (e.g., picking or peeling at imperfections, spilling liquids that we may not necessarily discover until hours later, writing/coloring on things, running and jumping ALL THE TIME, etc.) The top priority for me is that the floor is easy to clean and waterproof. I got a few recommendations for vinyl sheeting because it possesses those qualities, is inexpensive, and can be DIY installed. My husband seems unable to articulate his top priority…but he maintains that vinyl sheet looks/feels “cheap” and is against it. I am aware that others share his feelings about its aesthetic appeal, but admittedly, neither of us has actually seen or walked on a full floor of it in decades. (The samples I’ve gotten do look much nicer than the floors from back then.) He seems set on LVP. I personally don’t think it looks/feels much better and it’s much more expensive. I don’t know which option is easier to install yourself. So! I’d love to hear your opinions. Total area to cover is around 300 sq ft, plywood subfloor that’s in decent shape under carpeting. 1925 Craftsman. I know the top layer is Solarian sheet vinyl thanks to a keen eye from when I posted my kitchen a few weeks ago, but I’m interested if anyone can ID the flooring beneath. And then it looks like there is 3 1/4 inch tongue and groove beneath? I know the layer beneath that is the subfloor. The rest of the house is 2 1/4 inch oak (except for one single 3 1/4 plank laid in front of my bathroom), is it normal to have a wider width of hardwood in the kitchen versus the rest of the home? I replumbed and rewired the water heater to the basement, rewired the stove so it has a recessed outlet, replaced the floor, installed new sink, removed old chimney flu cover, patched a bunch of holes, replaced sheet vinyl over the asbestos linoleum that is covering original douglas fir flooring i was hoping to refinish, built all my cabinets from scratch, purchased and installed new sink, stained and oil-base-polyurethaned butcher block counters, put in a new backsplash, purchased ducted and installed new microwave hood, and added a couple new outlets all for under $3,000. Just 6 or 7 years ago all I had was some crappy folding black and decker screwdriver, not even a drill. My dad got me a dewalt 20v max drill for christmas about 6 years ago and I went from there. I'm not afraid to tackle many projects now. I had a 3 month old at the start and finished right before his 1st birthday. Worked mostly 2 days per week and I don't have a garage, so each day I could work, I had to take all my tools out of my exterior entry basement and work under a tent and tarps to stay dry from the rain. I'm in the planning stages of renovating a early '60s brick ranch. We've got dark oak hardwood flooring throughout all of the house except for the kitchen/dining and bathrooms. This is not a high-end neighborhood, I'm seriously considering a really nice sheet vinyl flooring for a number of reasons. I don't want this to look like a cheap flip or investor special. I'll be ripping out the kitchen, so we'll have a clean slate. Nothing to match the flooring to. Has anyone been able to do this with what's currently on the market and honor the style and era of a '60s ranch? All of the flooring that I see that has good design has leaned toward modern farmhouse, which I am not into. We are remodeling a house, and the kitchen has either 50s or '70s linoleum or vinyl flooring. We are a bit worried about asbestos because we found it elsewhere in the house. So we would like to just cover this floor with some sheet vinyl or potentially some vinyl tiles. The peel and stick kind. But we need to know what product to use to smooth the floor as it has a texture. We've read we need an embossing leveler but can't find which we would need for this type of flooring. Or if we need to prime it first. Any help would be appreciated. The rest of the house will have lvp. This flooring is pretty thick. So it would be much higher than the rest of the house and create and awkward transition from the rest of the lvp and a bit of tiles that are just out of camera. Inexpensive Better water protection than some other options like click-together boards The old vinyl flooring from the 70s looks amazing, just slightly discolored (longevity seems good) Easy to install But I am worried about resale value. I also have found some really cool-looking pieces that have some character/personality, but maybe that's bad for resale too.
