I’ve been having issues with the camera on my Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The phone will refuse to activate the camera occasionally which results in just a blurred screen and no functionality. I either have to restart the phone or force stop and clear the cache of the camera app. Has anyone else had this problem?

Seriously considering switching from Galaxy S25 Ultra to Xiaomi 15 Ultra – Am I making a mistake?
Hey everyone, I've been using a Galaxy S25 Ultra as my daily driver for about 9 months. I'm pretty deep in the Samsung ecosystem: Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch, heavy S Pen use for photo editing, quick journaling, signing documents, Good Lock customization, Now Brief, Samsung Notes, etc. After watching tons of reviews for 6 months, I pulled the trigger on a Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The box is sitting in front of me unopened, and I'm torn about whether to keep it or return it within the 30-day window. Or maybe, even wait for a few months down the line and then snatch a better deal on the 17 Ultra. What attracts me to the 15 Ultra: - Leica-tuned 1-inch main sensor (better low-light, dynamic range, bokeh, and that filmic Leica look) - Curved “All Around Liquid” screen (big nostalgia hit from my old Huawei Mate 20 Pro) - Supposedly better battery life and much faster 90W charging compared to the S25 Ultra What I'm worried about / cons: - Losing S Pen entirely (I use it daily for editing images, notes, journaling) - Losing Good Lock-level customization and One UI polish (HyperOS feels fast but has notification quirks and less refinement) - Galaxy Ring + Watch will work for basics but lose Energy Score, advanced sleep coaching, and deeper AI features - Samsung Notes won’t work properly - Now Brief and other Galaxy AI conveniences gone - Potential daily friction after the honeymoon phase - The phone is already ~14 months old → only 3 more major OS upgrades (up to Android 19) + security until ~2031 I do feel somewhat restrained by the S25 Ultra’s camera in some scenarios — especially evening/night shots, macro, and achieving nice artificial bokeh. That’s one of the main reasons I’m considering the switch. I also considered the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, but the price is too high for me right now. Even though it has a newer SoC, improved movable telephoto zoom, and larger 6000 mAh battery, I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost — especially since it loses the curved screen I really want and reportedly has weaker macro capabilities compared to the 15 Ultra. Honestly, a big part of this feels like ego/FOMO (“Leica shots on social media”) and retail therapy rather than pure need. The S25 Ultra is still a solid jack-of-all-trades that serves me well in most cases. Question for Xiaomi users (especially those who switched from Samsung): - How bad is the real daily driver friction after leaving One UI? - Did you miss S Pen / ecosystem features long-term? - Is the Leica 1-inch experience worth the trade-offs for someone who mostly point-and-s hoots does some light post editing and but wants better night/macro/bokeh performance? I do have a dedicated mirrorless camera. But honestly, I haven't touched that much in the past months. I believe in the saying that the best camera and the most useful one is the one you carry with you everyday and that will be a smartphone. Looking for honest long-term thoughts, not hype. A Month With The 17 Ultra - My Not Calling It A Review
So to set the scene. When this was launched in China, I really had an interest in it. While I'm not a good photographer, my first camera my parents got me was a used Leica and It was like a tank but I loved it. Given I don't game on my phone and mainly use my phone for taking some photos, tracking progress at the gym, my needs are basic so for me it was as long as I can get a full day out of it with my use I'm pretty pleased. I decided to pick this up via a colleagues student discount and the trade in of my 3 year old Samsung Galaxy S23 256GB. For £1034 delivered I got the 1TB 16GB 17 Ultra, Pad 7, The Ultra Photography kit and a 90W charger. Size Matters & Design Its a big phone! Coming from my S23 at 6.1" screen, I don't find this phone very comfortable to hold with the Photography camera kit case on. Oddly when the case isn't on, the phone feels much better to hold. I love the separate volume buttons. Please do not change this Xiaomi! I'd like Xiaomi to consider finding a way to ditch the case (it really doesn't feel nice when you're holding the phone) and find a way to have the photography kit just slide on. Maybe mag locking? Along with this, I'd like engineers to try and put this camera setup into something a tad smaller. Shuffling your hands to reach the top of the screen one handed isn't something I'm particularly used to and naturally the phone is a little top heavy. Maybe make the phone thicker to provide a bigger battery and maybe, just maybe a dedicated camera button? The Battery It's "fine". Look the global battery isn't as big as the Chinese version and I'm just as bummed out about it as everyone else but I've put this through various different scenarios and I've comfortably got through a full days charge. I've yet to use the 90W charger too. I've been using a 3rd party 40W I had lying about. Now everyone's battery will vary. I'm getting 8hrs screen on and still got loads of juice left in the tank from a 100% charge. 80% will see me from my day starting at 3.30am through to about 8/9pm before I'm around 20%. For context to the above, my screen refresh is 60hz (I don't play games!), and a lot of bloat public and hidden is removed. Call Quality I know right, who would have thought using a mobile phone for calls! xD - I'm pretty impressed with it. I took my phone to the gym where I have to constantly rely on the Gyms Wifi as its a tin can building on my S23 but with the 17 Ultra, full signal practically. Night and day difference in signal regards. Calls were pretty clear too. I'd say about as on par to my old Nexus 6P which was the best for calls I've ever had. The Camera & Video As I eluded to before, I'm not a professional photographer but I do like taking candid photos of random things. I'm very impressed with it considering its ultimately a point and shoot thing! Couple of remarks I'd like to make on this though; - Get the photography kit. The Pro or more expensive one (whatever its called), you won't regret it because you end up just having fun with your phone. - Leica Authentic setting (which I shot in all of these in) is only available in 12.5MP mode. This is such a massive shame. Please for christ sake allow this to be used in all modes. Recommend you set pic quality to super in settings because of it. - Low light it really is good. I'm off to Vietnam & Hong Kong later this month so I'll hopefully post up some photos then. - AI Post processing - Please can we have an option to fully turn this off?! I know when something has been AI has interfered with my photo as the colours and scratches are smoothed out when I take a pic of my car for example. - A lot has been made out about the Marco not been as good as the 15 Ultra. I can't possibly compare the two but I cay say from some of the shots I've taken, they are perfectly serviceable. May not be best in class (and one could argue for the cost of the phone they really should be) but they are certainly better than what most companies are putting in. - Video's in fairness I don't take a lot of but the videos I did take I wasn't overly impressed with the sound. Maybe there's tweaking to be done here by myself so please take this remark with a pinch of salt. Here are some samples (23mm Focal point, exposure stop no more than -0.3, either Leica Natural, or BW High Contrast, Cinematic or Film Negative); A colleague who's recently retired Moving shot of my friends dog Another Shot Arguably the best photo I took in my trip to South Wales If you guys like the colours instead! (Cinematic preset) Out for a walk Yes I like Black & White Leica Natural Colour My Cathay Pacific Bear Collection xD Negative Film Preset Super Marco Mode in 12.5MP Super Marco Of My Keychron Q6 - Very dirty it seems! Software - HyperOS - The Marmite I'll be honest, you're either going to be fine with it and see past its shortcomings or you will absolutely hate it and call it the devil. Me, I can just about turn a blind eye to its shortcomings and fustrations. If it wasn't for how good the camera is, I would have probably invoked a return on it. Maybe I am just too used to One UI and how polished it is. Of course, I have found ways round some of HyperOS' shall we all nonsense, but I found irritating that I had to find those workarounds. Some are just really weird bugs. I'll example some of my short comings with HyperOS - Delayed Notifications. X app for example just does not show DM notifications (or number badge) so I miss them from companies when I reach out to them. Yet standard mentions work fine and even have an alert counter badge. Very infuriating. Another example is Facebook Messenger. The message notification just won't go away sometimes. - Delayed Notifications Part 2 - I really shouldn't have go to go into apps and set no restrictions. I know there's a balance here between the Chinese software and the global but c'mon. - I have a "Do Not Disturb" after 10PM at night so only particular folk can outright reach me. In HyperOS this only works for calls...Not messages...Why? I had to install a separate app for this just so WhatsApp messages could come through from those members after hours. Exempting apps in Do not disturb is also highly hit and miss if you're an on call engineer. - Gesture navigation locked behind Xioami HyperOS. Yes you can use a 3rd party launcher but you're stuck to then the Navigation buttons. I'm personally fine with the buttons but this should not be locked down. - Grid Size. Need more options man. Spacing between apps is just too much for my liking. - If you use the App Drawer layout and go to an app through the app drawer, if you exit the app by pressing the home button, it takes you back to the app drawer? - Why..I've pressed home. Take me back to the god damn home screen! - Screen On Time is in a very unusual place. Just put it under battery. Use logical sense! - Data usage is another. This is just outright confusing. Why is it in Security? My data limit seemingly reset on the 1st of the month when I set it to the 10th. - WiFi direct hidden away in developer settings. Why? - Charging bug recently discovered where I set phone to charge to 80% and sometimes is blasts right through it. No idea why. - Having to lock VPN apps so they don't close - Having to Lock YouTube or YouTube music so if I close tasks it continues to play in the background. OneUI was intelligent enough to know what to do here, but HyperOS you literally need to tell it. - Analytics, ads, junk, bloat. There's more than I thought. Whilst I could remove some of it, there's lots of hidden crap which I had to use Shizuku and Canta to remove the processes. Whilst I've got the phone more lean now, compared to my S23 there is more junk there. Would suggest all users do this. UPDATE: I updated to HyperOS 3.0.301 from 3.0.11 and those processes I disabled are still disabled after which is good. But for all the negative stuff, there is some things which I do like - The integration with the Pad 7 really is good. - That cute pet widget thing! - Customisation options in terms of wallpaper and themes goes well although I'm not sure putting it through behind an app is the right choice. - The Gallery app I'd say is probably best in class. You don't need Lightroom or whatever to tweak your photos. Really is very powerful. - Write your number to the sim card. Sometimes I get unknown next to my sim card where the number should be. Its nice to see Xiaomi allows you to write the number to the sim! Concluding Thoughts Amazing tech powered with a very so so software experience. The software division clearly isn't keeping up with the hardware side of things. HyperOS 4 really needs to bring major improvements in my eyes. I very much doubt HyperOS 4 will be the software that we want that improves things and its a shame because HyperOS will be what puts people off this phone. Will the Vivo or Oppo Ultra be as good on the camera level? Probably. Photos are very subjective with styles. If HyperOS marmite puts you off, maybe explore those but early impressions suggest they could more expensive than the Xiaomi. If you buy the phone, you will have an awesome time with the camera. I really do recommend you buy the camera pro kit as you really do have some fun with it, but just be mindful that the software is not nearly as polished as its competitors. I hope you enjoyed reading all the above and if anyone has any Q's, please feel free to ask and I'll try to answer as best I can. My apologies in advance for any grammar errors. It's been a long day and I really should rest! submitted by /u/SpencerUk to r/XiaomiGlobal [link] [comments]

Xiaomi 17 Ultra After 2 Weeks
I have owned the X17U Global now since launch and I figured I would share my experience so far with the device. Camera: Let's start with the main thing people are wondering about, the cameras. There's no way to put it other than they are absolute beasts. One improvement that could have been made was macro photography, as they don't do as well as the macro cameras on the previous Ultra devices, but instead you gain a physical zoom lens and LOFIC. Picture number 1 is taken at 8.6x or 200mm, which is already utilising digital zoom. Cropped in, Picture 2, you can see it is still retaining enough detail to be more than good enough for social media posting without trying to pixel peep at it. Further down the zoom range you will start to see AI processing, but unless this is used on text, I find this holds up very well. I've done photography for over 15 years and know a lot about photography and cameras to be able to use this to it's full potential, rather than slapping it in point and shoot like a lot of these reviewers, and complaining that the image wasn't as bright enough or whatever. The best results you'll get out of this camera will be taken in pro modez so I would recommend to everyone who doesn't know already, to invest in a bit of knowledge about photography. Watch some YouTube videos about manual controls and don't be scared to play with them. Your images will thank you! Battery life: One thing I was worried about was the battery life. All comparisons between the CH and Global variant seemed to talk bad about the Global battery life. But I haven't experienced anything but all day battery.i use my phone for everything. It's my camera when I don't have my Nikon Z6. It's my computer when I'm out and about and I need to edit documents. It's my music player. It's my entertainment system when I want to watch YouTube, tiktok, etc... so far the phone hasn't died on me. I have done 16 hour shifts at work and ended the day on 25%. My average screen time is about 5-6 hours per day but usually finishing off the day between 30 - 35%. My longest day was 8.5hr SoT with around 20% remaining. I've never yet had to plug this thing in during the day, but this will be properly tested when I go on holiday next month. Obviously the super fast charging will more than make up for ANY shortcomings if the battery life does get worse over time, so I'm not at all worried. Performance: The S8E G5 is obviously a power house. Everyone knows this already. I think it already has it's own reputation for being the fastest chip on that market and that speaks for itself. I haven't noticed any performance decrease due to HyperOS optimisation. I feel that it's been buttery smooth in any task I throw at it. It exports images from Lightroom at a rate faster than any other phone I've owned, and I've owned a lot of the main flagships over the last 5 years, as I do tend to swap my phone out every couple of months. I haven't noticed the device to heat up like the 15U used to, which is great. If I charged the 15U with the 90w charger, I found it could get quite warm. I haven't noticed this at all on the 17U. Screen: Not much to say on this as it's hard to find a BAD screen in 2026. Even budget handsets have good screens now. I believe the resolution has dropped since last year, but honestly I can't even tell the difference. It's very bright for using in the direct sun, and very low for when you're in bed and don't wanna wake up the missus. It's pleasing to the eyes with a nice refresh rate, what more could you want? Comparing this review to my mini review I left last year for the X15U, I feel like I'm much happier with this device. Some of the "issues" I mentioned are still present. If I enable WiFi calling, I get a constant notification telling me WiFi Calling is connected. There is no way to disable this without disabling WiFi Calling. You can snooze it for 2 hours but it comes back, and the toggle in notifications is greyed out. 3rd party widgets still do not refresh, so I haven't really bothered with many this time around. I used to use KWGT widgets but I feel like there's just no point as the time or date, or whatever it is just won't update after a few hours no matter what you do with battery optimisation. Still no gestures with third party launchers, but I like HyperOS so I don't feel the need to swap. That's pretty much it for now. I'm not a mobile gamer so I can't comment on that subject before anyone asks. I have my computer and consoles for that! submitted by /u/Jamiekb1993 to r/XiaomiGlobal [link] [comments]

Xiaomi 17Ultra Review as long time Samsung User
As a long-time Samsung user, from the Note 2 to the S24 Ultra, I recently upgraded to the 17 Ultra Global, as indicated in the title, and I am providing my honest review. The hardware is exceptional; I could not ask for more. This is the primary reason for my transition, as Samsung has stagnated over the past five years. The cameras are impressive and remarkable. Many individuals inquire about the camera I am using, often mistakenly believing that my photos were taken with DSLRs. The Leica tuning is commendable. However, one area that requires improvement is the skin color science, which can be inconsistent depending on ambient lighting. Frequently, it results in overexposed facial features, even when I set the metering to average. The speakers are also excellent. In a small room, the bass is full and rich, especially when compared to the tinny speakers of the S24 Ultra. The form factor is somewhat different; although it is listed as 6.9 inches, it feels and appears smaller compared to the rectangular S24 Ultra. Both screens are impressive, and I am indifferent to the anti-reflective coating of the S24. After two years of usage, it became quite worn. I do not use any protectors on my devices. The software, however, presents a different narrative. Hyperos 3 resembles an Android version of iOS. Hyperisland, really? Do not misunderstand me; it operates very smoothly, and the animations are excellent. I prefer it over Samsung's One UI. Nevertheless, there are still some rough edges. The notification area is disorganized; Xiaomi needs to improve this. The scaling, font sizes, and overall presentation are subpar, leading to significant disappointment. Customization options are severely lacking. Changing your ringtone redirects you to the theme store, which is quite frustrating. A redeeming feature is the dynamic clocks, which are intuitive, similar to Apple's. The super wallpapers are impressive, but there are no icon packs available unless you apply them from the theme itself, which is cumbersome. Facebook is not optimized for this device. The Facebook Messenger bubbles have a thick square border that cannot be removed. The battery performance is commendable, provided that the camera is not used frequently, as intensive camera usage depletes the battery rapidly. After three hours of intensive camera use, the battery can drop from 100% to around 40% quite quickly. Overall, I have a strong appreciation for this phone. If Xiaomi enhances their software, perhaps with Hyperos 4, it could become an outstanding device that is challenging to surpass. submitted by /u/dochris69 to r/XiaomiGlobal [link] [comments]

Xiaomi 17 Ultra Honest Review
So, before I start this review I just wanna give you guys a bit of information from where I'm coming from. Before buying this phone I was a samsung user (s23+) and I've been an android user my whole life. I bought this phone last week and I've been testing it very thoroughly and here are my thoughts about this phone. Pros: • The hardware on this phone is top notch. In hand, it feels like a flagship phone, Great build quality, Great display. • Camera quality is superb, in my opinion its the best camera in a smartphone right now. • Phone is fast and literally no hiccups while using it, there's no lag or stutter that I've face till now. Cons: The biggest and most annoying part of this smartphone is the Software/UI. Don't get me wrong, Hyper OS is fast and light on the hardware, but there are some basic things that a smartphone should be able to perform that hyper os lacks for example: • There's no option to turn on sound/vibration when a call ends, so it leaves you wondering whether the call has ended or the other person is just silent. • There's no seperate Vibration/Silent mode. Xiaomi has merged them into one, so you need to decide which one you need to keep. • While playing games, DND is a hit or miss, notification are blocked but call pop-ups keep showing up. • When you slide down from home, Notification shade and Control center are seperate and there's no way of changing and combining them in settings. • Settings menu is a mess, good luck finding a specific settings that's been buried under a different menu somewhere that you can't even imagine it would be. • Battery life is average, its not mind-blowing or unusable, its just average, it barely lasts a whole day, i often charge it twice. • Ram management is so aggressive, it literally stops my smartwatch from getting notifications by closing its phone app. • There's no wifi direct. Like xiaomi straight up removed this feature from android. • Don't get me started on the whole Xiaomi bloatware, you pay all that premium price for their trashy apps. Its a good phone, with great camera and a solid build quality, but its software (Hyper OS) is holding it back, even mid and lower range phones have better features and functionality than Xiaomi's Flagship phone and the sad thing is literally no youtuber ever talks about this, all they are paid is to talk about this phone's camera. If anyone is thinking about buying it, just go for oppo or vivo phone. I've paid way too much on this phone, and i just can't do anything about it anymore, now I'm stuck with this phone for atleast 3-4 yrs now. After this, I'm never buying Xiaomi phone again. submitted by /u/KayV07 to r/XiaomiGlobal [link] [comments]

Xiaomi 15 Ultra / 17 Ultra owners – is there a fix for overexposed faces and whitening skin tones?
I’m considering getting the Xiaomi 17 ultra, but I’ve noticed something in a lot of samples and reviews. Faces often look overexposed and noticeably whiter compared to other phones. Skin tones sometimes get washed out or lose their natural color. I’ve also seen some people mention highlight clipping and blown-out lighting in general on the Xiaomi 17U For those who actually own the Xiaomi 15 Ultra or 17 Ultra: Is there any reliable fix for this? Do you just lower exposure compensation (like −0.3 or −0.7) every time? Does switching between Authentic / Vibrant / Pro mode help? Are people using GCam or other camera apps to get more natural skin tones? Basically I’m trying to figure out whether this is a processing issue that can be worked around, or if it’s just how Xiaomi’s camera tuning works. submitted by /u/SonnyHoneyMoneyBunny to r/XiaomiGlobal [link] [comments]

Sorry but not launching 17 Pro & Pro Max globally is hands down the dumbest decision made my Xiaomi.
I fell in love with this company for their bold moves. Back in 2021, Xiaomi actually launched Mi 11 Ultra in India at a price cheaper than the Chinese variant. It was a risky experiment but the Company won my respect for that. I used that masterpiece for five years (best deal I ever made.) But after that, they never experimented again. After five years, they again decided to experiment with 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. I personally felt the smartphones looked wayyyyyyyy cooler than iPhone. The rear panel was special, the display was great. But to my surprise, they're launching the 17 series globally excluding the very two smartphone I was most excited for. It's disheartening and disappointing. At least in my country, nobody's paying more than 70k for a Xiaomi phone unless it has something special to offer. 17 Ultra is the most disappointing flagship of Xiaomi of this decade. And they're still giving it a global release. This company needs to rethink their decisions & get back in track. submitted by /u/jab-tak-hai-syllabus to r/XiaomiGlobal [link] [comments]

Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica White + Some Photos
Bought the CN version on Goofish + freight forwarding and received it yesterday. It comes with a 100W charger, an A-to-C cable, and the Leica version exclusive items: a cleaning cloth, a wrist strap, and a lens cap. Both the device and accessories have amazing build quality and feels so premium. Just some quick samples taken with Leica Vibrant (Default) mode near my house! submitted by /u/dodoro0428 to r/XiaomiGlobal [link] [comments]
