Cigna email today: no ACA plans for 2027 (in NC?)
I just got an email from Cigna letting me know that they will not be offering ACA plans in 2027. It was not clear from the email if it is for just my metro region, for just North Carolina or a broader shift. As BCBS does not work with Duke Health for ACA and Cigna does, I am pretty well screwed. My premium had jumped from $1250 to $1760/month (age 61), but my bucket of medicine was all covered. Switching to the UNC medical system is not really an option given my preexisting conditions. I'm allowing myself 48 hours to panic, and then I have to start researching options for 2027. submitted by /u/nc-retiree to r/HealthInsurance [link] [comments]

aca healthcare in FIRE
Looking into ACA healthcare plans as i begin FIRE. I know this is one of the most expensive parts of fire. I'm single, and if i keep my MAGI below $62k a year, I qualify for federal subsidies, and it cuts of more than half of the cost (depending on MAGI). Since in FIRE, I would be drawing from mostly hysa and my brokerage accounts for the first 5 years, that would make being below that magi relatively easy to control. Am i missing something? if i can qualify for subsidies, healthcare on ACA can actually be quite affordable? submitted by /u/Available-Ad-5670 to r/Fire [link] [comments]

Do you think the ACA cliff is here to stay?
So I accidentally hit that this year. I was rebalancing to 60/40 stock/bonds and had to sell a lot of stock, thus capital gain income. I'm only 40 but as soon as I reported it to my state's health connector my insurance went from $500 to $800 for the year. A big shocker came when I went the pharmacy to buy my medicine and this new plan applies the deductible towards medication. It cost me $2000 that day (but it covers my deductible for the rest of the year). I did the rebalancing a month before the Iran war so I come out far ahead but this really highlights how important it is to pay attention to this. Part of my income is very variable (real estate). I might have to quit my part time job because of it. So do you think the ACA cliff is here to stay? submitted by /u/Affectionate-Reason2 to r/leanfire [link] [comments]

Income for aca
Not fired or there. Question. Married couple. 2 kids. Tween and teen. About 50. Health care is from work. Not self employed. If you want to retire before 65 and need income for aca how do you generate it? Expanded medicaid state. Work requirements go in effect here Jan 2027. Other than work part time how do you get income for aca subsidy? I see folks talking about that on here. We have no brokerage account. We have money in Roths, 401k and trad ira. That's it. minimal in saving. lived minimalist. I'm hearing about roth conversion. Does that make magi income? Do people do roth conversion for aca only? I don't know much about them in general. I guess it's convert so the withdrawls are tax free in retirement? are they a way to get income on paper in retirement? not sure we have enough for many years. no idea when we're retiring or can. Just curious on this. I'm in for some fun with oldest heading to college on 2 years and Healthcare retiree planning. links to share? I was hoping we could have a few healthy years hiking etc but looks like working full time since 18 years old 50 or so hours a week not enough. Our ACA Health insurance cost for us (2 people) in 2026, fyi - $715/month
Hey Everyone, I just read another post asking about health insurance and what we’d do when we fire. As someone self-employed who has been on the ACA since it came out, it hasn’t been a real concern. However, that said, I thought I’d share our numbers. Important note! Everyone’s numbers will be different. You need to plug in your information to get your costs. Your income (MAGI) strongly factors in - but, so do other factors like state, which company you select, coverage you select, your ages (I think?) - anyway, lots of factors. This is only to give you a frame of reference Ok, our numbers: - Two of us, male & female, early 40’s, file taxes jointly - Expected income next year (MAGI): ~$48k (dividends + residual income) - Cost for a Gold Plan, $1200 deductible each, $9300 max out of pocket, $25-$60 copays: $715/month - Cost for a Bronze Plan, $9300 deductible each, $9300 max out of pocket, lol what are copays: $483/month This is after a significant deduction by almost $1000/month for the income at ~$48k. There were other options as well for coverage - both cheaper & more expensive. The least expensive was ~$83/month after subsidies, and most expensive was above $1.5k. The plans I am discussing were the ones that our doctor accepted and covered the medication we use. It is a HMO. I won’t be giving out our state, location, etc, for privacy purposes. We went with the Gold plan, but have gone with the bronze previously. If our income ends up being higher than expected, we pay back the difference in subsidies that wouldn’t have been reduced when we pay our annual income tax. It’s best to guess income as accurately as possible and then expect to make up the difference if there’s a change. If anyone else wants to chime in with their numbers similar to what I did above, I’m sure others would appreciate it. It doesn’t have to be exact. And please, try to stay away from giving out information that might be too private. Oh, last note - remember ACA plans can’t factor in (or shouldn’t) pre-existing conditions when calculating your premium. I hope this helps. Again, everyone’s numbers will be different!! submitted by /u/ShutterFI to r/Fire [link] [comments]

Looks like ACA won't be extended and were moving towards the end of ACA in general.
https://www.rickscott.senate.gov/2025/11/sen-rick-scott-introduces-bill-to-fix-obamacare-and-drive-down-health-care-costs They actually have the concept of the plan now written down and it is now an actual plan. Cold reality of ACA from an experienced agent
The reality is. The subsidies weren't generous enough. A single mom of 3 is not able to get medicaid from the state nor aca due to her income being less than 32k. A husband and wife that make around 45k don't qualify at all. If anything the subsidies need to be enhanced even further. I just heard that it was only 30B to keep it. Compared to all the money the government waste 30B is nothing. submitted by /u/Arca_Sundering_Stars to r/InsuranceAgent [link] [comments]

How bad is the ACA (genuine question)
As an older person, health insurance is the #1 issue for retirement. I need good insurance that most doctors take. I have always believed ACA is just like a corporate plan but with higher limits, but my husband has told me that there are a large number of doctors who will not take ACA insurance. It doesn't make sense to me as these are just private insurance companies and the ACA is a marketplace. However, even I have seen signs stating "we do not accept Obamacare" or now ACA. Has anyone with ACA struggled getting good doctors or getting approved for imaging or procedures? Is my understanding that the ACA is just very expensive private insurance that can come with subsidies true? submitted by /u/Distinct-Race-2471 to r/Fire [link] [comments]
